But rare is the masterpiece that can so seamlessly blend two completely different vehicles as this stately Ford Thunderbird. You see, this classic bird's profile is merely an attractive illusion as, underneath its surface, smooth 1994 Lincoln Mark VIII mechanicals are right and ready to cruise! Complete with a rebuilt InTech V8, a modern automatic transmission and independent air ride suspension, this stunning Lincoln, err, Ford mixes the best aesthetics of one of Detroit's most storied creations with the mechanical prowess of one of America's greatest luxury coupes. Looking for a truly exceptional, truly unique collector car? This imposing 'Bigbird' is unmistakably you! BODYWORK/TRIM Professionally assembled by Charlotte's own Finished Dreams Restoration, and professionally painted by Winston-Salem's The Paint Shop, this Ford's lust-inducing body reflects a picturesque coat of Raven Black 2-stage. From its glossy shine to its chip-free rocker panels, that paint's deep finish is nice enough to be the star at any local cruise night, and certainly nicer than the car's original, factory-applied pigment. Naturally, a star of that caliber requires top notch panel fit, as the folks who bolted this coupe together spent ample time making sure its jet-inspired fuselage maintained excellent cohesion. Modern headlights, Mark VIII door handles and a power moonroof perfectly complement turquoise birds and brilliant trim that was carefully refinished by the pros at Advanced Plating in Nashville, Tennessee. And today, this classic rolls as a stunning tribute to one of the coolest designs to ever fly out of Dearborn, Michigan. ENGINE/DRIVETRAIN Toss the car's chrome-trimmed hood and you'll find a 32-valve dual overhead cam Lincoln InTech V8 that's one of the hottest and most versatile engines Ford ever produced. Stout, solid and highly adaptable, these Teksid aluminum blocks have spent the last two decades powering everything from Mustangs and street rods to Aviators and Panoz roadsters. And not only does the modern gem crank out roughly 300 horsepower, it also features a tidy appearance that, when combined with the car's monochromatic engine bay, literally looks tailor-made. That high tech mill, fully rebuilt back in 2009, sends power to a Mark VIII-spec 4R70W 4-speed automatic transmission. And that gearbox twists a Mark VIII-spec rear axle that's fitted with mild, 3.08 gears. CHASSIS/SUSPENSION The interesting thing about Finished Dreams is the quality of their conversions. Instead of a simple engine swap, or a pro-touring style adaptation, this '61 T-Bird's body is actually mated to its Lincoln donor chassis as one complete structure. The car's floor and frame are straight Lincoln. That duo is supported by Lincoln's fully independent suspension, which retains the computer-controlled air ride that made the Mark VIII so famous. Power rack-and-pinion steering provides modern turning ability. Pound on the left pedal and power-assisted, 4-wheel disc brakes utilize factory ABS to fulfill a quick stop. Romp on the right pedal and a Ford-spec exhaust system creates a subdued roar. And at the corners, handsome Dayton wires twist 275/40ZR17 BF Goodrich g-Force Sports. INTERIOR One of the central themes of pro-touring is creating cars that, despite their appearance, are much easier to live with than their factory-correct peers. Nowhere is that mindset more prevalent than inside this 'bird's full Mark VIII interior. The passengers are treated to plush leather seats, which feature full power adjustment for the driver and front passenger. In front of those seats, a driver-oriented dash anchors Lincoln telemetry beside Lincoln air conditioning and Lincoln audio. Below that dash, fresh carpet centers a simple console between color-keyed floor mats. At the sides of that carpet, sculpted door panels cap power windows and remote controlled power door locks. In front of the driver, a Thunderbird-branded steering wheel laps a modern, tilting column. And behind the passengers, a fully finished trunk features enough luggage room for a quick weekend getaway. It'll run the tires off a stock T-Bird. It rides like a true luxury coupe. And best of all: the car's modern mechanicals can be serviced at any Ford dealer on the planet. Pro-touring is rarely this accessible, and if you're the kind of guy who wants something nobody else has, here's your first class ticket to exclusivity! Yup, you were not the only one attracted to this classic T-Bird. It's a museum quality car that spent many years doing just that. And at a price like this, it wont last in our showroom! These first-year Thunderbirds are true icons. It only gets better when it's in the rare factory-correct color of V-code Goldenrod Yellow. The clean, bright, distinctive paint leaves a lasting impression that complement's the Thunderbird's legendary long and chrome-laden look. The car looks pretty original except for one piece that's obvious to Ford fans. The rear continental kit was not offered until '56, but this one gains some flair, and much needed trunk space, with a custom unit that even extends the tailpipes. This is the kind of appearance that will slow traffic especially with its contrasting black folding soft top, or black removable hardtop in place. You were not the only one to stop and stare at this yellow and black T-Bird. The people at Coker Tire liked it so much they used it for a promotional vehicle. We still have some advertisements featuring this convertible, and it even spent years featured in the company's museum. In fact, you'll still find the car's wire wheels in their catalog today. If you liked the outside appearance, you'll love the interior. Only the Goldenrod cars received the two-tone black and yellow seats, and door panels. It's a striking combination that will have people complementing you about how clean the interior looks, and many will swear it's a custom creation. Style and luxury were the true hallmarks of this classic, and that's why it came with rare features for its time like the power seats and power windows. The heat/defrost sliders and upgraded AM/FM radio with iPod controls are all displayed in an machine-turned panel that flows across both doors, and the dash. This frames the power steering wheel, and above it is the nifty speedometer that's lit from behind by a Plexiglas panel viewed through the windshield. Just to the left of this is the tachometer, and below to the right is a full set of auxiliary gauges. So while this is a luxury cruiser, you do get a few reminders of the large V8 under the hood. The "Thunderbird Special" 292 cubic inch V8 looks authentic right down to iconic Thunderbird logo, valve covers, and hood-fed chrome teapot air filter. Just like interior and the exterior, the engine bay is predominantly black and yellow, which really draws the eyes to the red block peeking out from under the components. It's a powerhouse of a motor, but it doesn't lose its luxury-minded attitude as it sweetly purrs through its extended dual exhaust system. The Ford-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission stays comfortable as it clicks through the gears without a fuss. The final part of this classic cruiser package is the perfect set of bias-ply tall whitewall tires. People love a '55 because it's the car that launched an icon. But this one is a cut above because while plenty of celebrities drove Thunderbirds, this T-Bird is a celebrity. Add in its rare paint and included original parts such as the factory radio, and we know this convertible won't last long in our showroom. A Raven Black example like this is sought after for features like the unique trim styling and continental kit out back. But really the reason why you are reading this is because there's nothing more beautiful than Ford's personal coupe in black and chrome. One of the world's most beloved cars, there's just no way to make a 1956 Thunderbird look bad. But when you get it right, they can be downright amazing, and the high-quality finish on this two-seater is a testament to a life well lived. This restored car looks amazing, with decent gaps all around (particularly the hard-to-fit doors), and the optional fender skirts make it look long and sleek. Nice chrome accentuates this '50s icon, and the exhaust still exits through the rear corners of the bumper - a feature only found on a '56. The continental kit was standard equipment, mostly to remedy complaints of no trunk space, and it adds a jaunty look to the sleek T-Bird that many find very appealing. The wire wheels with white F-O-R-D centers match perfectly with the whitewall tires. Inside the same black and white color scheme continues on the seats, doors, and dash. This interior/exterior matching makes this Thunderbird a real class act with the top down. Style and luxury were the true hallmarks of this classic, and that's why it came with rare features for its time, like the power seats and power windows! Not only do those work perfectly, but so do all the other original components from the heat/defrost to the AM/FM radio. It is all displayed in an engine-turned panel that flows across both doors and the dash. This frames the power steering wheel, and above it is the nifty speedometer that's lit from behind by a Plexiglas "window" viewed through the windshield. The black vinyl top looks great, and is easy to set in place, but of course, the real reason everyone flocks to a '56 car is because it was the first year for the porthole windows in the included hardtop. The 312 cubic inch V8 appears to be this car's original engine and looks thoroughly original, right down to iconic Thunderbird logo valve covers. Best of all, it only has about 1,300 miles on it since a rebuild. Ford red paint on the block looks great in the otherwise all-black engine bay, and the Ford-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission clicks through the gears without a fuss. The dual exhaust has a nice V8 burble, which is the perfect soundtrack for weekend cruising. But if you really want to understand the condition of this car, just look at the underside. It's clean and exceptionally authentic. Two-seater Thunderbirds will never go out of style, especially one with the perfect color combination and options. And when you can get one that has been cared for so well, and restored so nicely, that we even have the original owner's manual, well, then it's going to be a race to see who can pick up this personal luxury machine first. This beautiful Thunderbird was treated to a full professional body-on restoration in 2012. It has been carefully stored and driven just a couple of hundred break-in miles since the restoration. The original Code T Thunderbird Blue color is finished to show quality level, and the interior, trunk and engine bay have all been properly restored. It features the correct non-porthole hardtop in original contrasting white, fully restored inside and out, and still wearing the proper Thunderbird badges. In the all-new interior the radio has been upgraded to an AM/FM vintage style unit for enjoyable cruising. The new vinyl seats in aqua and white and the amazing aqua dashboard and door panels make this the most striking color scheme we've ever seen in a Thunderbird. Other newly installed parts include a black fabric convertible top, sealed battery, 205/75-15 radial whitewall tires and new spare, exhaust system, brakes, many mechanical parts and rewired electrical system. The restored engine bay features a chrome air cleaner, chrome valve covers, and Ford Red paint on the block. Ford's Y-block V8 provided power for the Thunderbird, in this case a P-code 292 cubic inch V8 making 192 horsepower. It has a wonderful V8 exhaust note that invites you onto the open road. Arguably the purest of the early Thunderbirds, this 1955 looks even more striking simply because it's not wearing fender skirts. With it's beautiful original style Thunderbird wheel covers, it has much more of a sports car look than its siblings. Of note, this Thunderbird has the rare 3-speed manual transmission, so it's highly entertaining to drive, with light shift action and a delightful V8 burble with the top down. Included are an owner's manual, shop manual, electrical manual, and a wonderful original sales brochure. Not many collector cars are icons like the Thunderbird, and you'll find that everywhere you go in this one, you're a celebrity. [email protected] 5527 Lakeview Road, Charlotte, NC, 28269, US 1989 Ford Thunderbird Super Coupe 13,950 Actual Mile Thunderbird Coupe 3.8L Supercharged 5 Speed Survivor Year: 1989 Type of vehicle title: Clear Primary color: Black Mileage: 13950 Transmission type: 5 Speed Manual Engine: 3.8 Liter Supercharged V6 Interior color: Gray Vehicle Info Unique, low-mileage collector cars are like buried treasure: you know they're out there, but they're almost impossible to find. That's especially true when you're looking for a showroom-fresh oddity like this V6-powered Thunderbird Super Coupe. With only 13,950 summertime miles, it is absolutely one of the finest tenth generation T-Birds on the planet. And with an asking price of only $20K, it's going to disappear faster than gold bars on a pirate ship! The late '80s wrought some of the most interesting offerings from Detroit's Big Three. Possessing the fading ego of industrial America, and attempting to meet stricter emissions and tighter safety standards, the companies felt a need to maintain their swagger while fostering an unprecedented break from convention. And this coupe is a serious testament to just how far that mindset sprang, or stumbled depending on whom you talk to. The car's traditional Ford Black pigment is decidedly contemporary, proving once again that good taste never goes out of style. With that pigment comes tidy sheetmetal, which, thanks to decades of spending time in a dry garage, appears straight, clean and as crisp as the day it was stamped. That solid metal lines up beautifully, featuring wide doors, which open and close with ease. And overall, this T-Bird's looks defy the decades its VIN suggests. Speaking of fit and finish, everything on this incredible Dearborn creation is exceptionally well planned. And the car carries just the right amount of old school NASCAR charm to inspire lust and exude presence. At the front of its body, a sculpted fascia hangs simple driving lamps beneath a small Thunderbird emblem and aerodynamic headlights. A characteristically linear profile complements flip-up door handles and a power antenna with painted mirrors and small rocker extensions. At the top of the car, original glass rides behind matte-finished frames. And clean taillights illuminate a small Ford emblem and "THUNDERBIRD SC" branded bumper. The top engine for the 1989 model year was Ford's supercharged Essex V6. Utilizing an Eaton blower and lightweight aluminum heads to twist 210 horsepower into 315 lb./ft. of torque, the tough mill glides this beast, and all its power accessories, with the silky smoothness of an electric motor. Like the rest of the car, the engine bay is immaculately preserved, from its hulking air tubes all the way to its little markings and decals that are still clearly visible throughout. Ideally suited for judging, this coupe will easily score very well in competition due to its astounding preservation. It runs as new, starting easily and idling almost imperceptibly. And on the highway, it wafts along effortlessly, virtually whispering at high speeds. A rugged, Mazda-sourced M5R2 5-speed shifts the gears, spinning power straight to this Ford's rear wheels. The 4-wheel independent suspension appears original in every way, providing a smooth ride and reliable handling with the help of modern power steering. And power-assisted disc brakes create enough resistance to reel the car in at will. Take special note of the condition of the floors, which still appear factory-fresh. There's a single-pipe exhaust system that's likely factory equipment. And original aluminum wheels spin 225/60R16 Dunlop SP Sports around Thunderbird-branded center caps. Naturally, the light gray interior is just as cool as the rest of the car, wrapping minimal wear in exquisite '80s comfort. Power cloth seats are nicely pleated pieces that feel every bit as supple as they look. In front of those seats, a silver-trimmed dash hangs a full gauge pack above factory air conditioning and a correct Ford tape deck. Below that dash, a black console frames a small shifter in front of adjustments for the car's Ride Control. Below that console, gray carpet shows a surprisingly minimal amount of wear thanks to heavy duty floor mats. At the sides of that carpet, metal-trimmed door panels feature small power window switches, small power door lock switches and controls for power mirrors. Above those panels, a tight headliner founds a self-dimming mirror. In front of the driver, an attractive, "SC" branded steering wheel spins cruise control toggles around a tilting column. And behind the cockpit, a small spare tire hides beneath ample storage space. V6-powered Thunderbird Super Coupes were only produced for seven years, and because of the cars' specialized nature, they were pretty exclusive. This '89 was the best of the breed before T-Bird performance once again became the exclusive domain of the V8. And with its low mileage and roster of original equipment, this car would be right at any local cruise night. Don't miss your opportunity to own a rare piece of Ford history! Eventually Chevrolet took their Corvette to the racetrack, while Ford continued to turn their Thunderbird into the ultimate boulevard king. Now, over sixty years later, Corvettes are regarded as some of the best curve carvers in the world, and Thunderbirds, like this 17K-mile stunner, are still turning heads on Main Street. If you looked at a brand new Thunderbird in 1955 but couldn't swing it, and looked again in 2002 but the timing just wasn't right, 2015 is your year! That's right; we have a pristine 2002 Thunderbird that's so nice it could've rolled out of the factory yesterday! So, if you're still looking to hit the road in refined style, the third time's a charm! BODYWORK/TRIM Ford's sensational Thunderbird sprang to life as a 1955 halo car that fired imaginations and eventually became a legend. In 1999, Dearborn's favorite son decided it would honor that original by building a new model to turn just as many heads. And, within three years, the convertible you see here, affectionately dubbed the 'retrobird', was rolling through production. This pristine drop-top's long body has obviously been pampered and exceptionally cared for as its slick Thunderbird Blue 2-stage looks just as good now as the day it rolled off the truck. And, from its great fit to its blemish-free panels, this Ford is definitely one of the nicest factory cruisers on the planet! As one of the most enduring 'retro' designs ever created, the car's J Mays-penned fuselage looks fantastic from virtually any angle. At the front of that fuselage, a bright chrome grille hangs small driving lights below clear, combination headlamps and a teal-inlayed Thunderbird emblem. Behind that emblem, a composite hood centers a traditional Thunderbird scoop in front of tinted factory glass that sports a stylish chrome frame. At the top of that frame, a Performance White hardtop latches down over a standard Haartz soft top to perfectly mimic Ford's original, 1955 dual-roof system. Below those roofs, chrome ventiports ride inside re-imagined fender lines that lead the eye through body-matched mirrors to rear mounted "Thunderbird" scripts. And, behind those scripts, a contoured Center High Mount Stop Lamp illuminates a second teal-inlayed Thunderbird emblem, clear, combination taillights, a chrome-trimmed tag recess and stylish stainless exhaust tips. ENGINE When Ford debuted the eleventh generation Thunderbird it introduced a car that was faithful to the original concept in virtually every way. Power for this classy cruiser comes from a 3.9 liter, 32-valve DOHC V8 that was developed by former captive subsidiary Jaguar. Code named AJ35, the Ford-specific mill utilizes variable valve timing, fracture-split and forged rods, 1-piece, cast camshafts and a reinforced, composite intake to twist 280 smooth horses into 286 lb./ft. of stout torque. More of a 'comfortable cruiser' than 'flat-out sports car', the 'retrobird' never pretended to be a Corvette or Porsche competitor. That said; 0-60 comes at a very respectable seven seconds, and the car's silky powerplant delivers enough grunt to provide fun and responsive driving characteristics. Aesthetically, the entire engine is hidden under an attractive plastic shroud which substitutes a classic "Thunderbird" script and silver "V8" branding for traditional views of its componentry. However, you can still plainly see how well everything has been maintained and, with a turn of the key, the cylinders settle into a restrained hum of power. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION In the late 1990s and early 2000s Ford developed one global rear wheel drive platform, codenamed DEW, that was set to underpin everything from select Jaguars to the fifth generation Mustang. Those competent roots supply this awesome Thunderbird with a sophisticated independent suspension, which utilizes a host of weight saving technology to provide a smooth ride and composed road manners. Behind the aluminum engine, a 5-speed automatic transmission sends power to a fresh Ford rear end that's fitted with beefy 3.58 gears. At the corners of the chassis, 4-wheel disc brakes, which are aided by standard antilock and traction control systems, ride behind chrome, 17-inch wheels and sticky Michelin Pilots. All that world-class engineering results in a sturdy convertible that translates relaxed sportiness into an excellent combination of cushy comfort and tight handling. And when you throw your favorite road at this drop-top, it'll chew it up, spit it out and coddle you in the kind of luxury vintage T-bird owners merely dream of experiencing. INTERIOR Ford began the 21st century by producing some of the most impressive and detail-oriented interiors to ever hit the market. And the 2-tone cockpit in this roadster, equipped with an optional Full Interior Color Accent Package, has to be one of their best designs. The driver and passenger are treated to power leather seats, which are branded with small Thunderbird emblems. Below those seats, day-one-fresh carpet is protected by color-keyed floor mats and bordered by cool "Ford Thunderbird" sill plates. Above those sills, winged door panels hang slick metal trim behind controls for both power windows and power door locks. In front of those panels, a highly detailed dash anchors Turquoise-tipped needles between satin-faced gauges, a 6-disc CD changer and attractive metal trim. At the base of that dash, a great looking console centers dual-zone climate control on a Thunderbird Blue shift knob and sculpted waterfall back panel. In front of the driver, a 2-tone wheel spins a pristine, teal-inlayed emblem around a tilting and telescoping column. And behind the passengers, a fully finished trunk features enough luggage room for a quick weekend getaway. This is exactly why we created the RKM Performance Center. Being proud members of SEMA, ARMO, HRIA and the North Carolina Motorsports Association, the RKM Performance Center is a nationally recognized shop; best known for high level OEM restorations and custom builds. [email protected] 5527 Lakeview Road, Charlotte, NC, 28269, US 1955 Ford Thunderbird Thunderbird Pro Touring Supercharged 4.6L DOHC V8 5 Speed Disc Brakes A/C Year: 1955 Type of vehicle title: Clear Primary color: White Mileage: 1133 Transmission type: 5 Speed Manual Engine: 4.6 Liter Supercharged V8 Interior color: Tan Vehicle Info There's something to be said about the shape of an early Thunderbird. It's pure, clean and looks so light that you just want to jump in the driver's seat and toss it around the track all day. With this killer, take-no-prisoners 1955 Thunderbird Pro Tourer, you can do just that. Completed in August 2010, it features a customized all steel body, a modular Mustang Mach 1 powertrain, a Mustang II suspension with a ton of bolt on upgrades and a comfortable, modern interior. Custom built by Street Visions in Waxhaw NC, this all steel '55 T-bird took one year to build and underwent 1300 hours of restoration and customization. Use of a steel body resulted in gaps that are much better than you find on typical fiberglass Thunderbird Pro Tourers and everything lines up extremely well, from the original scooped hood to the modified deck lid. Once the body was completely smooth and straight, it was covered with a thick coat of Dupont Chroma Merlot Burgundy Metallic basecoat/clearcoat that has an excellent finish and displays a brilliant shine. A few liberties were taken with the body to enhance the predatory look of this piece. At the front of the car, a custom fascia houses new halogen headlights in traditional T-bird hoods above blue tinted fog lights that are a direct fit where the cars turn signals used to be. Between those lights, a chrome mesh grille replaces the traditional Thunderbird stainless grille and extends down to where the cars bumper would normally sit. Behind the headlights, a stock Thunderbird hood sits below a correct Thunderbird scoop that houses chrome mesh inserts and features chrome "Supercharged" badges on each of its sides. Below the hood, the car's front fenders incorporate custom fender vents with chrome mesh inserts and serve as the starting point for slick painted ghost flames that continue to the rear fenders. On the doors you'll find custom rear view mirrors with integrated LED turn signals and traditional chrome T-bird door handles above stainless covered lock cylinders. At the front of the doors, a traditional curved Thunderbird windshield is cleared by custom Newport Engineering stainless wipers and housed in pristine stainless trim. Connected to the top of that windshield is a tan Haartz cloth convertible top with a plastic rear window. Below that plastic rear window, straight rear fenders house chrome trimmed LED tail lights, custom cut exhaust outlets and showroom fresh "Thunderbird" scripts. At the back of the car, a modified deck lid features a stainless lock cover, and a custom fabricated rear fascia replaces the traditional '55 bumper. Back in 1955, this Thunderbird would've had a 292 cubic inch Y-block V8 under the hood that cranked out maybe 200 horsepower. Today, when you pop the hood you'll find a high-revving modular DOHC 4.6L Ford Mustang Mach 1 motor that is fed by an intercooled Mustang Cobra Eaton supercharger. To make everything communicate properly and perform without fail, a Detail Zone electronic fuel injection wiring harness and an SCT chip tuned by Pro Dyno were installed and the result was a very stout 451 horsepower and 417 lb./ft. of torque at the rear wheels. In front of the motor, a custom aluminum radiator by Arrow is equipped with a Sparco fan to take care of cooling. Behind that fan, a serpentine belt, that is standard equipment from the Mach 1, sits below a modified cold air intake and turns an inverted alternator. At the sides of the motor, coated Sanderson block hugger headers send exhaust into a true dual exhaust system with Magnaflow performance mufflers. The engine bay is completely finished with a satin black firewall and body colored hood and inner fenders. And the exceptionally clean engine features stainless fuel rails, chrome valve covers with body matched coil covers and a stainless Spectre breather. This motor is show ready and reliable enough to head wherever the road takes you. No more tuning carburetors, all you need to do is get in, turn the key, and it fires up instantly, idles perfectly, and pulls like a freight train. There is more to this car than just a trick engine. Take a look underneath and you'll find a Mustang II suspension with a Fat Man front sub frame and a custom boxed and modded X-member. Bolted under the front of the car is a heavy duty 1.5 inch sway bar, 11.5 inch Brake Tech disc brakes with braided lines, power steering from the Mach 1 donor car and a Flaming River stainless steering shaft and joints. Bolted under the back of the car you'll find Mustang II leaf springs, a heavy duty 1 inch sway bar, custom Cal Trac style rear control bars and Mustang Cobra 11 inch rear disc brakes. Sending power to the wheels is the Mach 1 donor cars Tremec 3650 5-speed manual transmission. Behind that transmission is a shortened and balanced Mustang Mach 1 driveshaft that is connected to an 8.8 inch rear axle with 3.27 gears. Stopping is aided by the Mach I donor cars Hydraboost brake system, and go-juice is supplied by a Tanks Inc. 16 gallon stainless fuel tank with an internally mounted high volume fuel pump. The bottom of the car looks awesome with Chrysler Almond Metallic paint adorning the frame and Lizard Skin undercoating protecting the floor pans from the elements. At the corners, 17 inch TSW eight spoke aluminum wheels have been dipped in chrome and wear 245/40 z-rated BF Goodrich G-Force T/A radials. The wow factor doesn't end there. Inside you'll find a completely custom-built interior that is a modern interpretation of the already stylish 1955 Thunderbird's cockpit. Behind the curved windshield a custom fabricated and painted dash displays some of the best workmanship I've ever seen. A polished Grant steering wheel with a Mahogany rim sits on an Ididit column in front of classy looking Dakota Digital LED gauges. On the dash itself, chrome trimmed vents for the Vintage Air climate control system complement a locking glove box and a billet aluminum handle for the headlights. Below the dash a custom built and custom covered center console houses controls for the Vintage Air system, a Hurst short throw shifter and a Kenwood system that features an AM/FM radio, a CD and DVD player, XM and MP3 capability, navigation and Bluetooth connectivity which includes a steering wheel mounted mic. Custom seats that were fabricated out of Toyota parts, are covered in Katzkin leather and sit on new Hushmat and new carpet. Beside you, custom door panels feature painted toppers, leather covers with custom arm rests, chrome trimmed courtesy lights, new Relic power windows and Rocky Hinge billet door handles. The trunk is nicely finished as well, with matching carpets and side panels and a trick hidden fuel filler. The car even comes with Viper keyless entry, a power antenna and remote start; there's absolutely nothing in this car that wasn't done to the highest standards. On a hand-built car like this, documentation is everything. Included with this car is a CD of completed build pictures and a build sheet that has a categorized break down of the car, a list of all the companies used during the build and maintenance specifications for the aftermarket parts. This 1955 Thunderbird is an extremely impressive Pro Touring car that will eat any original T-Birds lunch six days a week and twice on Sunday. It features a great looking vintage shape and benefits from 50 additional years of technology. [email protected] 5527 Lakeview Road, Charlotte, NC, 28269, US 1957 Ford Thunderbird Frame Off Restored Thunderbird Roadster 312 V8 3 Speed Year: 1957 Type of vehicle title: Clear Primary color: Red Mileage: 53521 Transmission type: 3 Speed Manual Engine: 312 V8 Interior color: Red Vehicle info Like blue blazers or Eames lounge chairs, some things never go out of style. The 1957 Ford Thunderbird is another item worthy of the "timeless" designation. While it was meant to compete with the Corvette, it not only outsold Chevrolet's offering 24:1, it went on to be widely considered one of the most significant American auto designs of its era. This particular '57 is a great example of the exact car buyers originally fell in love with. Dressed in bright red and powered by a 312ci/245hp V8 with a three-speed manual transmission, the car is great to look at and even better to cruise in thanks to a restoration that didn't overstep its bounds like so many do. If you're looking for a Thunderbird that looks, sounds, and feels authentic, this Ford is for you! We'll get started by decoding the data plate: D: 312ci V87: 1957 model yearF: Assembled in Dearborn, MIH: Thunderbird 382XXX: Consecutive unit numberBody: 40 - ThunderbirdColor: V Flame Red Trim: XH Pleated Flame vinylDate: 16W Scheduled for assembly on September 16Trans: 2 3-speed manual w/ overdriveAxle: 3 3.70:1 axle ratio Restorative efforts took place in 2005 when the whole car was torn down and freshened throughout. Despite the work, the car feels authentic throughout and even shows some natural patina in places. One area that shows virtually no signs of aging is the exterior. Few colors highlight the European-inspired Thunderbird lines better than Flame Red and this example has been lucky enough to sport that hue for its entire life. The latest coat shows well, casting crisp and accurate reflections from nearly any angle. While the car's unibody construction is great for eliminating fender or quarter-panel seams, the long straight panels can make bodywork a bit of a challenge. Thankfully, all efforts here were successful with laser-straight lines and excellent panel fitment across the board. Step in for a closer look to find all the details firmly in place and ready for show. At the front, a stainless egg-crate grille rides between clean headlights, a delicate header emblem and a sculpted bumper that bends around peaked fenders. Between those fenders, a classy hood scoop leads the eye to a wraparound windshield that's reflected by optional dual chrome mirrors, cleared by satin-finished wipers, and framed by thick chrome trim. When the weather stops being agreeable, a black cloth convertible top comes to the rescue while contrasting against the body color for a striking look. There is no hardtop with this one, but you certainly won't miss it during cruising weather. Below, sculpted door handles and stainless-trimmed fender skirts perfectly complement chrome fender louvers, small Ford emblems and glowing "Thunderbird" scripts that sit to the front of fender vents. The '57 had arguably the most memorable rear view of all the Thunderbirds with finned quarters capped by pointed taillights while exhaust routes through rectangular bumper cutouts. Below the trunk lock, a final Thunderbird emblem completes the exterior. Tilt the lightweight hood forward to find one of Ford's overhead valve 312ci V8s. Over 16,000 Thunderbird buyers opted for this configuration and for good reason: With a single Holley carburetor, the setup was factory rated at 245hp and 332lb-ft of torque just 25hp less than their more expensive dual quad kin. This mill starts out with a correct 1957-exclusive ECZ-6015-C block dressed in a coat of Ford Red which could be more accurately called "orange". Factory heads topped with finned valve covers frame a factory intake while a chrome air cleaner assembly tops the Holley. At the front of the engine, an OEM-style radiator works in harmony with an engine-driven fan while the accessory drive turns vintage pieces like the Ford-branded generator. Spark comes courtesy of a Motorcraft distributor that sequences fire between a reproduction battery, a Ford voltage regulator, a Ford coil and new plug wires. Spent exhaust gases are swept out through cast iron exhaust manifolds that flow through a true dual exhaust system with factory replacement mufflers. Details like the correct reproduction hoses, "See Clear" windshield washer bag, and replicated inspection marks throughout offer this bay an authentic presentation that you'll be proud to show off. Underneath, this classy roadster presents well without venturing into trailer queen territory. Solid floor pans are topped with a layer of undercoating while, in the middle, a Borg Warner T85 3-speed manual transmission offers full authority over the Y-block. A lot of buyers preferred their "personal vehicle" to shift itself, so it's refreshing to see a three-pedal example. Power is transferred to the ground through a tried-and-true Ford 9-inch rear end while, around the drivetrain, the suspension stays true to Ford design with a double A-arm front and leaf spring rear with fresh shocks all around. When the luxury life leads you to twisty roads, manual steering and heavy duty drum brakes are both in place to keep the driving experience lively. Despite the lack of power assist, this Thunderbird is still a surprisingly nimble machine. At the corners, chrome wire wheels wrapped in 205/75R14 wide white walls complete the classic look. Dramatic styling was king in the 1950s and it certainly didn't stop on the outside. Between the doors of this Ford, a bright red vinyl interior offers seating for two with plenty of period-correct charm. Nicely aged door sill plates clamp the corners of clean red carpet, protected by rubber Thunderbird-branded mats. In the center, a chrome shifter extends through the floor, free of any type of console. Seating is provided by a bright red bench seat which shows virtually zero wear. At either side, matching door panels are dressed with attractive brushed aluminum pieces as well bright window cranks and door pulls. The dash appears to be original but shows well overall with plenty of 1950s charm. The factory gauges monitor fuel, revs, speed, temperature, and time from within an engine-turned aluminum bezel that looks great amidst the red paint. Chrome pull knobs control accessories like lights and wipers while the Town and Country radio provides all the entertainment needed. In front of the driver, a bright red steering wheel extends forward, offering control over the front wheels. Lift the decklid to find solid pans beneath a correct floor mat and full size spare. It doesn't matter whether you're a Ford guy, Mopar guy, or Chevy guy, this impressive Thunderbird is one of those timeless designs that transcends barriers, offering near universal appeal. The car's great looks, great performance, and great color combo all add up to an exceptional classic that can be driven and enjoyed every day of the summer. Indulge as is, or tinker with it to make it sharper, either way you'll have a high value cruiser that has unmatched curb appeal and the muscle to back up its good looks.
