Well, this is it. Beautifully finished, this 1937 Ford slantback 2-door sedan shows off what the ideal combination of modifications and style can do to what was once just a transportation appliance. OK, so nobody will ever accuse the 1937 Fords of being ugly, so that's probably why the guys who built this one left the sheetmetal alone. No chopped top, no radical de-trimming, and no outrageous paint job, just clean, honest Ford steel in the original shape. Of course, fit and finish are worlds beyond what Henry could manage in 1937, even if he were willing to spend the money to get it to this level. Look closely and you'll note a few mods, including the shaved hood ornament and smooth deck lid, but nothing that immediately jumps out as a custom touch. The body was smoothed and finished to a very high standard before several coats of luscious black basecoat went on, followed by a few layers of clear for an impossibly deep shine. While they were at it, they gave the grille a coat of the same stuff, and you'll love how it highlights the body's subtle creases and curves. A simple band of stainless trim highlights the curves of the bodywork and the bumpers were tucked in tight for a smoother look. The interior is the kind of place that you'd be happy to spend a weekend or more, thanks to comprehensive upgrades that make it as comfortable as a modern luxury car. The front are beautiful low-back tan buckets, and in back the original bench has been retained. Upholstery is tan leather so its bright and airy with a strong sense of style and it's plenty comfortable for long-distance cruising. The original dash has been reworked, and the stock instrument panel has given way to a billet insert with modern VDO dials for all the major systems. A powerful A/C system is so neatly integrated that you'll have a hard time believing that Ford wasn't building them this way in 1937. A gorgeous leather-rimmed banjo-style steering wheel lives atop a tilt column and that billet aluminum shift lever links to a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission. Under that slanting deck lid, you'll find a surprisingly spacious trunk with a cleverly disguised battery box and neatly finished tan carpets. The engine is a Chevy 350 cubic inch V8, so you know it's powerful and reliable out on the road. Fully dressed with lots of chrome, this will be part of the reason for the crowd forming around this car. A big Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor atop a polished intake is a time-tested combination, and the dual exhaust system was built as much for sound as for performance, because this car sounds amazing. The front suspension is a familiar dropped I-beam with disc brakes, while out back there's a 9-inch Ford hanging on leaf springs. The quality of the workmanship is evident everywhere you look, and it has not been driven much since it was completed, so even the chassis is bright, shiny, and clean. Even the polished Torque Thrust wheels and fat rubber don't seem to show much use at all. Expertly engineered and beautifully finished, this is the car you've been dreaming about adding to your collection. Now just because it has four doors, don't go thinking this is some ho-hum car. No, this is a beautifully crafted rod that can cruise cross-country in comfort while offering a classic old-school rod look big enough for the whole family. Basic black always works best on a vintage Ford, Model T or otherwise. The handsome 1936 models were an evolution of the '35s, with that iconic wrap-around grille highlighting the list of features. Smoothly flowing fenders that encapsulated the wheels and gently rounded bodywork make it beautiful, while a trunk on the back makes it practical. Finish quality is quite good, with four doors that close easily and good gaps all around. The black paint is deep and rich with minor signs of age and use, which are pretty much impossible to avoid on a black car that gets driven. The red grille is a traditional hot-rodding look that works well regardless of how many doors are on the car, but that and the shaved hood ornament seem to be the only notable modifications. Oh, and putting a spare tire out back gives it that old-fashioned look and adds valuable storage space in the trunk. The tan cloth interior stays pretty faithful to its 1930s origins, with vertical pleats and matching door panels that look pretty much the way they did in 1936. The instrument panel has been replaced by a lovely aluminum piece full of fresh Auto Meter gauges that are quite similar to the original dials, and the rest of the dash is pretty stock. Woodgrain on the dash and window moldings is how they did it when the car was new and it adds a touch of elegance to the simple interior. A tilt column with a wonderful banjo-style steering wheel keeps things authentic and the AM/FM/CD stereo, sub-woofer and amplifier have been cleverly hidden in the trunk and are accessed by remote control. There's a surprising amount of legroom in back and with seatbelts all around, this is a rod that's comfortable and safe for everyone. The 350 cubic inch Chevy V8 under the hood does a pretty good flathead impersonation, offering finned valve covers, a chrome alternator mounted up high in the V of the engine, and a bell-shaped air cleaner, all of which recall the original Ford design. However, you're going to appreciate the extra horsepower on tap thanks to a 4-barrel carburetor and an HEI ignition system that ensures it lights off quickly and easily. There's a big radiator up front that keeps it cool easily, and the white firewall is another nod to tradition that this car gets effortlessly right. A TH350 3-speed automatic transmission spins highway-friendly 2.73 gears in a 10-bolt housing, so there's nothing radical underneath, but that also means it's reliable and comfortable. A custom front suspension with A-arms, coil-overs, and rack-and-pinion steering makes it feel quite modern and disc brakes were added for safety. The exhaust is a great-sounding dual setup that hugs the frame for great ground clearance and you have to admit that it sits exactly right on those red steelies and wide whitewall radials. Built to cruise, this is a reliable, well-sorted, easy-to-handle Ford that gets everything right. If you like your hot rods traditional with a bit of practicality on the side, this '36 is a fantastic choice. The one-year-only styling combines the traditional upright grille with a streamlined body to create one of the best-looking cars of the period, no matter the manufacturer. This unusual 2-door sedan with its integrated trunk is a neat resto-rod that keeps all the great Ford styling and merely adds a few the modern conveniences. If you admire the '36 Ford like I do, then you'll definitely appreciate the extra mile the builders went on this handsome tudor sedan. Fortunately, it hasn't been chopped, channeled, or smoothed, leaving all the original steel pretty much as it was when it was new. The gently rounded fenders with their peaked crease through the middle, the highly detailed hood vents, and practical yet stylish trunk with integrated rear-mount spare tire, it has all been transported intact from 1936. Finished in Henry Ford's favorite color, high-gloss black, it looks sensible and nicely finished, with a high-class air to it, much like a tuxedo. It's not perfect, having been built a few years ago, but the look will never go out of style. Most of the original brightwork made the translation, from the neatly dipped bumpers to the original door handles to the original taillights which now feature LED bulbs and lenses. Up front, there are cool modern bulbs with LED rings in the original buckets, along with a set of fog lamps underneath. The grille is blacked-out, giving it a semi-custom look that's familiar but different enough to make this car stand out. Inside, all pretensions of being a stock Ford are long gone, replaced by bucket seats and all the modern features you'd expect. The seats appear to be from a late-model, with the back seat and door panels upholstered to match. Ford's original dash remains, with the billet instrument panel full of pretty cream-faced VDO gauges, and we really like the tachometer in the center, right where the original ashtray (or optional AM radio) might have lived. The A/C and AM/FM/CD stereo controls have been neatly integrated into a custom panel just below the dash, and the way it fits together makes the line between stock and modified very blurry. A leather-wrapped wheel looks right in the Ford, and it sits atop a tilt steering column. Other options include power windows and the trunk is deep enough to handle a weekend's worth of luggage, so don't be afraid to hit the road in this Ford! While the flathead was celebrated for its performance at the time, today you need more horsepower and the best source of that is a 350 cubic inch Chevy V8. Sensibly dressed with an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and intake manifold, an HEI ignition system, and a splash of chrome to keep it interesting. It was built a few years ago, so it's totally sorted, a smooth, reliable, powerful travelling companion for the guy who likes to drive his rods. The Chevy is a neat fit in the Ford's engine bay, and all the accessories tuck in tight so the hood fits well. A big radiator, power steering and brakes, and a late-model front clip make it drive like a modern car. The transmission is a TH350 3-speed automatic spinning a 10-bolt rear end hanging on air shocks and leaf springs, and the dual exhaust with glasspack-style mufflers sounds just right. Competing the illusion is a set of polished Torque Thrust wheels with big-n-little blackwall radials for the perfect stance. Classic good looks never go out of style, making this is a well-sorted rod that's a true pleasure to drive. What a beautiful 1940 Ford 2 Door Sedan. This is a fresh frame off restored car that is very nice. This is basically a NEW car from top to bottom. The car starts, idles, accelerates, shifts smoothly, cruises down the road at highway speeds and stops as good as it looks. At 70mph you can take your hand off the steering wheel and she is as straight as can be with no shakes or shimmies. It is a very good cruiser, dependable and a real eye catcher.
