With a traditional chassis, a Chevy V8, and a look that recalls the long, sleek roadsters of the '30s, it's a rod that's a cut above the usual stuff. That distinctive "turtle deck" styling is 100% Model T roadster, and it is one of the simplest, yet most elegant shapes ever created. It also looks great surrounded with curvaceous fenders and fronted by an extra-long hood that gives the humble Model T a very sleek look. There's virtually no panel on this entire car that hasn't been customized or hand-fabricated to achieve a look, but the Ford DNA is undeniable in the final result. The long 1-piece hood starts at a highly modified '32 Ford grille shell with a stainless insert that gives it a very updated look. The fenders look like late Model T pieces, again modified to work with the longer front end, and with everything swathed in brilliant Lamborghini Orange paint with a ton of pearl in it, there's no denying that there was someone with a very clear mission at work here. Workmanship is impressive, so if you like the look, there's plenty to love about the build: the beautifully molded cowl that seamlessly blends the hood and the bodywork, the V-shaped windshield, and the fabricated rear bumper that looks like the push bars old Bonneville racers used to use. The interior is quite a bit more user-friendly that the usual Model T, with a wide bench seat that's comfortable and has plenty of room for two. Everything is wrapped in black alligator skin and orange leather, including the custom door panels, and it's carpeted to control noise and heat, both of which are critical in a roadster like this. A custom aluminum steering wheel lives on top of a polished tilt column, so it's easy to get comfortable in the driver's seat, and a full complement of white-faced Equus instruments offers a great view of what's going on up front. A mini console was fabricated for the custom shifter, which, in the low-slung roadster, falls easily to hand. In back, the trunk is fully upholstered in black carpet with a matching alligator skin insert on the deck lit itself. There's also a sizeable fuel cell, making this roadster a fantastic cruiser for longer drives. The engine is a rugged and reliable 350 cubic inch Chevy V8 that's been recently rebuilt and neatly dressed for show duty under the long hood of this T. Lots of chrome and polished aluminum glitter when you pop the 3-piece hood, and with a new Edelbrock 4-barrel carb, a Holley intake manifold, and a throaty dual exhaust system, it certainly drives like a hot rod. A TH350 3-speed automatic transmission powers a 9-inch Ford rear end, which hangs on ladder bars and coil-overs. A dropped I-beam front suspension, complete with transverse leaf spring, gives it that vintage hot rod feel and there's a disc brake at each front corner. A set of flashy aluminum Torque Thrust wheels offers the traditional "big-n-little" combination with Goodyear radials up front and giant Pro-Trac donuts in back. Not quite a T-bucket, not quite a track T, and not quite a Model A or Deuce roadster, this is a wild combination with the right look and the right parts to simply be a ton of fun. How about this butch-looking 1934 cabriolet, which has the same awesome open-air vibe as the roadster, but with the protection of a folding top, roll-up windows, and windshield wipers that actually work. There's nothing subtle about this slick satin black rod, but that's entirely the point. Sure, the body is fiberglass, but the look is timeless, and everywhere you go, folks recognize the appeal of the 1934 Ford. From the pointed radiator shell and sweeping fenders to the raked-back windshield and smoothly tapered rear deck, there's something here that will appeal to everyone, and the fact that it's totally functional as a real car is something that most rods attempt, but not all achieve. Workmanship is quite good, and with fiberglass, it's easy to get great gaps and a solid feel, and with that satin black paint job, the shape simply speaks for itself. It features stock-style suicide doors with chrome handles, a custom grille insert in the pointed grille shell, and 1939 Ford taillights that have been smoothly integrated into the rear fenders. Red pinstripes add a classic old-school vibe with details on the hood louvers and in back, and they're matched by the red stripe in the stock-style chrome bumpers. Red cloth upholstery ties in with the bodywork, and offers more comfort in an open car than sticky vinyl or sweaty leather might. The stitching has a traditional look with pleats on the seats and simple door panels with billet hardware, and twin buckets make it easy for everyone to get comfortable. Old-school gauges from Ford Motorsport highlight the smooth dash, which roughly approximates the shape of the original 1934 design. With a tilt column and wood-rimmed wheel, it has a great look that's a bit upscale, which is right where the cabriolet was positioned when it was new. Lokar supplied the shifter, and if you want entertainment, it's all controlled by you right foot. Weather protection is provided by a snug-fitting white top with a decent-sized rear window (no blind spots!) and the trunk is neatly finished and perfect for, say, the Hot Rod Power Tour. But this rod is no poser. The engine is a freshly built 302-inch V8 bored .030 oversize fitted with all kinds of upgrades. A Cobra dress-up kit should look familiar to anyone who has ever driven a hi-po Ford before and it's entirely appropriate here. Ford Blue on the block looks great against the satin black bodywork and the overall look is serious and functional rather than over-done. Block-hugging headers dump into a custom-built dual exhaust system with glasspack-style mufflers, so this sucker really cackles. The suspension is a Mustang II setup in front with power rack-and-pinion steering and disc brakes, while an 8.8-inch out back hangs on a Mustang trailing arm setup. There's also a 3-speed automatic transmission in the middle. It nails the perfect stance with painted steel wheels wearing skinny 205/70/14 front and fat 255/70/15 rear whitewall radials. Go ahead and enjoy the open road, this '34 Ford has you covered; it's ready to rock or to be taken to the next level. Shot Gun Aluminum Breather to give the overall engine a cool and aggressive look. There has some very nice but yet again not too busy Pin striping also done on it and it of course complements the Old school look nicely. The engine is a 350 standard bore nothing too crazy but sounds sweet to the anyone standing within a 1/8 of a mile especially rumbling throw those big exhaust pipes. The transmission is an Automatic 350T with a stage one Shift kit in it to give it a more hot rod shift but nothing too hard to give you whiplash like other shift kits can do. It's a recent build designed to emulate the way-out creations of the '60s, and with modern materials and quality, the effect is still just as stunning as it might have been 50 years ago. Built by Craig Smith and called "The Liberace," this fantastic '32 Ford roadster definitely has that old school customizer's vibe. It's based on a Rod & Race '32 Ford roadster body, in fiberglass of course, and has been fully customized the old school way. If there's a modification possible, this car probably has it, from being chopped, shaved and channeled, to the elimination of the doors (do you really need them when the car is less than three feet tall?), to reworking the beltline trim to make it look clean and sleek. Then there's the nose, which emulates some of the far-out creations of the '60s, giving The Liberace a very unique, one-off look. The paint is expertly done in pearl white with purple inserts and looks spectacular out in the sun. Other details include Frenched '59 Cadillac taillights, Mustang fog lights, and even a set of marker lights from a semi-truck, all working together to make this car totally unique. It's long, lean, low, and loud, which is exactly the point with a car like this. The interior is a tasteful blending of '60s sensibilities with modern comfort, as the bench seat was totally reworked to make this roadster comfortable for all-day cruises. On the other hand, the purple pleated vinyl inserts and side panels are totally old school, with sparkles just to reinforce the point. Black carpets keep it from being overwhelming and that '55 Chevy steering wheel was smoothed and painted to match the bodywork. The instrument panel, if you can call it that, is art more than function, with a center-mounted speedometer and auxiliary gauges in their own pod down out of sight. And nothing's cooler than cruising with your hand hanging from that tall Lokar shifter, complete with eyeball shift knob. Even the trunk is neatly finished in the same materials and offers remote charging posts for the hidden battery as well as a master cut-off switch. No radio, no heat, no top, no windows, just your back-to-the-60s rod that's all about fun. A 350 cubic inch GM crate motor provides about 270 horsepower, which is plenty in this flyweight roadster. The focus was on reliability, so they added a Pertronix ignition, Speedway polished Edelbrock intake manifold and carburetor, and a set of gorgeous headers with Volkswagen Beetle stingers and baffles, so it's not overwhelming to drive long distances. Clearly the goal was to have a no-compromises old-school rod. Its backed by a 700R4 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission and a 10-bolt rear, so highway cruising is truly effortless, and the entire box-section frame was custom made and painted to match the body. Simple transverse leaf springs at both ends do their job, along with chrome hairpins up front and ladder bars out back, the way they did it decades ago. Chrome kidney bean-style wheels are pure 1963 and carry bias-ply whitewalls, with the rears being vintage drag slicks. Too cool! This car has a long, long list of awards behind it, more than a few magazine features, and an awesome pedigree. If you grew up during a certain time period, this car is already speaking your language. This 1932 Ford hi-boy roadster is textbook tradition in every way. Great colors, impressive build quality, and plenty of performance mean this rod delivers an old school look with no compromises. A stripped-down roadster is the essence of speed, and this black '32 delivers that classic look from nose to tail. The body itself is fiberglass, but at this point, does it really matter? The lines are exact and the ultra-smooth bodywork is worthy of the black paint. Things like the hinges, door handles, and cowl lights have been shaved and the windshield was raked back a bit, all in the quest for style and speed. The half hood shows off the mechanicals underneath and there's a single red pinstripe to highlight the belt molding, a little detail that a lot of traditional hot-rodders embraced. The traditional '32 Ford grille is flanked by big '34 Ford commercial headlights and a chrome spreader bar, while the rear end is decorated with familiar teardrop-shaped '39 Ford taillights with LEDs inside. It's a look that's worked for decades and it'll never go out of fashion. It's pretty likely that few roadsters in the early days of hot rodding had interiors this beautifully finished. A contoured bench seat is wrapped in bright red vinyl with pleats, a classic look that extends to the door panels as well. Full carpets are a luxurious feature in any roadster and they're protected here by a set of custom-made floor mats. The instrument panel is a neat engine-turned piece full of big, bold Auto Meter gauges and the 3-spoke steering wheel has a vintage track racer vibe. It feels natural to rest your hand on the Lokar shifter and there are almost no signs of wear anywhere inside the car, a testament to the quality of the build. The trunk has still got a lot of space for road trips, despite being home to the gas tank and battery, all of which are beautifully upholstered to match the interior. Traditional horsepower comes in the form of a 350 cubic inch Chevrolet V8 crate motor with a bunch of smart upgrades. The block has 4-bolt mains, there's an upgraded Comp Cams camshaft, and roller rockers actuating the valves, and a 4-barrel carburetor supplying the mixture. It cackles like an old-school rod should thanks to block-hugging headers and mufflers with turn-downs ahead of the rear axle, but everything's tucked up nice and neat inside the frame. In fact, the frame itself is as well-finished as the bodywork, with glossy black paint and lots of prep work on the welds so it all looks like it's forged from one piece. The transmission is a quick-shifting TH350 3-speed automatic and it powers a beautifully finished Ford 9-inch rear with 2.79 gears inside, which is plenty when your car weighs 2000 pounds and has more than 300 horsepower. The suspension is traditional, with a dropped I-beam up front with a transverse spring, while out back it has a 4-link setup with coil-overs shocks. The only modern tech on the chassis is the 4-wheel disc brakes, which everyone can agree is a worthwhile upgrade. Red steelies wear trim rings and Ford hubcaps and the perfect big-n-little combination with 205/70/14 front and 285/70/15 rear BFGoodrich T/A radials. With only 3630 miles since it was completed, this is a fresh build of an old favorite that looks great and runs even better. Did I mention six-deuce Hemi power? If I showed you this color on a paint chart and told you that was the color I'd chosen for my roadster, you'd tell me that I'm crazy. But look at how awesome this car looks now that it's done. Brilliant, right? It almost seemed like a law that '32 Fords had to be black or red, but if you show up in this one, you will be The Man from the moment you arrive. Yes, it's fiberglass, but it has been expertly prepped and finished, with shaved door handles and hinges and a grille shell painted to match. You can forget about a hood, but with that outrageous sextuplet of carbs, why would you ever want to hide it? Out back, the traditional looks continue with '39 Ford teardrop taillights and an exposed gas tank, while up front a V'd spreader bar takes on a very trick look by adopting an airfoil profile. Obviously someone was sweating the details when this one went together. The completely custom interior uses a fabricated bench seat to maximize legroom in the compact roadster body. Wrapped in blue leather, the pleated seats have a traditional look that dates back to the days when this car was new, but the beautifully stitched door panels are quite modern. Dark blue carpets give the open car a finished, luxurious feel and help control heat, too. The dash is a gorgeous engine-turned panel filled with Stewart Warner instruments, and they didn't waste time with frivolous stuff like a radio or heater. More leather has been wrapped around the banjo-style wheel, which lives atop a polished billet tilt column, so it's easy to get comfortable behind the wheel. The trunk is upholstered to match, and part of this car's modern twist is the custom lift-off top, which is pure roadster, but looks ever so slightly different in profile thanks to the rounded side frame. Aside from a flathead, there's nothing more traditional in your hi-boy than a Chrysler 331 cubic inch Hemi. Topped by an outrageous induction system that incorporates SIX carburetors on a Weiand intake, it was the hottest engine on the street then and makes a big statement today. Everything was sanded, smoothed, and finished to accept a matching coat of light blue paint, and anything that wasn't painted was polished or chromed. Think of how long it took to disassemble and paint all those carburetor bodies, and note how glossy and smooth the engine castings are; there is A TON of work in this car. It also runs beautifully despite the exotic induction, and has a wonderful Hemi soundtrack thanks to the ceramic-coated exhaust system. The frame is boxed for strength, the front suspension consists of a traditional I-beam axle, and out back there's a Ford 9-inch hanging on ladder bars and coil-overs. Staggered Torque Thrusts achieve the traditional look using 195/60/15 front and 275/60/17 rear BFG radials. Gorgeous, fast, and unique, THIS is what hot-rodding is all about. Next time you see a generic 350 Chevy with a 4-barrel, you'll remember this car, and if it isn't yours by then, you'll probably regret it.
