This exceptional 1925 Model T roadster pickup offers a spectacular restoration the likes of which you just don't see all that often. If you want a super nice Model T that's ready to enjoy, this is a fantastic choice. If you're a truck collector, and I know there are plenty of you out there, you need a T in your collection. With a bright color scheme, it's not quite the way Henry built it back in 1925, but the bright yellow finish is exceptionally well done and shows very little use since it was finished. The traditional black fenders look right, offering a bit of contrast that adds to the rugged look. The familiar grille plus the upright cab all date the truck and make it the most identifiable hauler of all time, and given the values of Model Ts, it's shocking to see one this well restored. The bed is freshly finished with lovely oak planks and matching stake sides, and it's just as sturdy and ready to work as it was nearly a century ago. Kind of cool to think that commercial vehicles also were things of beauty, isn't it? There's no chrome, of course, but the functional side-mounted tire adds some style and it's got two taillights out back for safety. The interior is surprisingly classy for a blue-collar hauler, with pleated seat cushions and a nicely finished dashboard. The same Model T controls that you got on the passenger cars were used here, too, including a hand throttle, and a set of foot pedals for the 2-speed planetary transmission. It's easy to operate once you see how it works and if you've got the time, the dependable Model T will get you anywhere you need to go as long as there's gas in the under-seat tank. A hard maple steering wheel is big and beefy and offers plenty of leverage for the steering, even fully loaded. Instrumentation includes an ammeter that monitors the generator's output and the ignition switch, plus an accessory Stewart speedometer. A rubber mat dresses it up a bit, as does the black canvas convertible top, which is beautifully fitted. The engine is the same 4-cylinder 20-horsepower powerplant that was under the hood of every Model T, but with clever gearing, it moves the truck easily, loaded or empty. Speed isn't the point, reliability is, and this ancient machine will still out-last just about anything made today on the job site. It's rebuilt and runs great thanks to a few upgrades, including a distributor for the ignition system and all new wiring. The updraft carburetor hangs under the cast iron exhaust manifold and it fires with a familiar sound that forms the background soundtrack for every old movie ever made. The basic chassis is in great shape, and wears bright red paint, a nice contrast to the red bodywork, and while it's not totally authentic, nobody will argue with how it looks. Restored wire wheels with bright orange paint sport recent 21-inch blackwall tires for a proper look. A wonderful vintage truck that always attracts a lot of attention and will be a lot of fun for parades and shows. In fact, interest in cars like this 1925 Ford Model T sedan seems to be increasing rapidly as younger enthusiasts discover the earnest mechanical simplicity of Henry's first love. In a field of much more common touring cars and open roadsters, this Model T 4-door sedan stands out. Well, of course it would because it's nearly seven feet tall, but the enclosed body gives the simple T a much more formal and impressive look. It's easy to recognize, of course, and the basic black was a hallmark of the Model T throughout its production, although it's a myth that Henry Ford says you could have "any color as long as it's black." Black was simply the fastest-drying color, which allowed the assembly line to move at full speed, and it's really the color that looks best on cars like this. Up close you'll find the paint has a soft period shine that's entirely appropriate and a single blue pinstripe surrounding the body adds some contrast. The brass era was over and chrome wouldn't be invented until 1929, so the Model T's trim is mostly painted black, although details like the headlight rings and door handles are nickel plated with a soft, satiny shine. Open one of the tall doors and you'll find a nicely appointed interior that belies the T's affordable price, both then and now. Attractive gray broadcloth gives it a formal look and feel and even though it's a few years old now, it's holding up rather well. The story has it that this car was only driven to church on weekends, so it shouldn't be a surprise that there's so little wear. Simplicity was the key to the Model T's success, and even in the (relatively) expensive sedan, the controls were basic: ignition switch and ammeter on the dash, a fuel mixture knob that doubles as the choke, and a fat wood-rimmed steering wheel that is quite directly connected to the front wheels. Set the spark and throttle just right, turn on the ignition, hit the starter pedal, and the jaunty little T motors off without working too hard. You'll have to practice your three-footed shuffle on the pedals, and we'd recommend doing that before you put any friends in the rather spacious rear seat area. The eager little 177 cubic inch inline-four isn't a horsepower machine, but it's about as reliable as an anvil and just as tough. Fabric-wrapped plug wires from the coil box add some contrast and the original updraft carburetor uses an accessory warm air intake to help atomize fuel. This is a later T so it also has a water pump and an electric starter with generator, so it's self-sufficient without requiring you to risk dislocating your shoulder cranking it by hand. The 2-speed planetary transmission is a breeze to operate once you get the hang of it and the brakes, well, the brakes are terrible, but that's the nature of the beast. The exhaust system makes all the right Model T sounds and it rides rather smoothly regardless of the condition of the pavement underneath the skinny tires and wood-spoke wheels. The Model T will always be a staple of the old car hobby, and the 4-door sedan represents a great opportunity to get a fun old car for not a lot of money and still stand out in a crowd.
