1962 Ford Galaxie 500 XL Convertible. A real G-Code car with 406 cubic inch V8 factory rated at 405 horsepower. Three Holley 2v carbs; top-loader 4-speed transmission; 3.50 (open) ratio 9" rear end. Built at the Mahwah, New Jersey plant July 21, 1962 as a "DSO" ( Domestic Special Order) vehicle. Car #84 in the 62 Ford Galaxie Registry. Raven black paint; Rangoon red vinyl interior; and white convertible top. This car underwent a full, frame-off restoration by its' second owner in 1992. He had purchased it in Washington, D. C. where it had been sitting in a garage since 1972, with only 62,000 miles on the odometer. Sold in 2007 to third owner; again in 2010 to fourth owner; and current ( 5th) owner acquired car in 2012. Always garaged and pampered. Won "Best of Show" AACA award in 1996 ( emblem on grill). Has only 10,000 miles since restoration, to wit: Paint: PPG (base coat, clear coat) Engine: pistons, rings, etc.; cam, lifters (solid), timing chain and gears; bearings ( rod, crank, cam etc.) Heads Rebuilt: new valve seats ( for unleaded gas); new valves; new valve springs (high performance inner and outer); ported bowls; 3x2 carburetors ( rebuilt) Dual Exhaust with correct mufflers and resonators ( new) Complete Front End rebuilt with new: springs, bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends, pitman arm, shocks ( front and rear); Rear springs ( new); Four (4) speed transmission ( rebuilt); Clutch and Pressure plate (new); Brakes and brake cylinders ( front and rear); Interior: seat covers (NOS), rugs, floor mats and trunk mats Car has the factory correct SUN tach mounted atop steering column, which has been converted to solid-state and works perfectly, as does the clock! Ignition converted to MSD electronic with 6000 RPM limiter. Factory optional stainless steel fender skirts and dual side mount rear view mirrors. Factory AM radio in dash; but Sony AM-FM stereo in glove compartment with remote tuner. Period correct power assist steering has been added; as has power brakes with dual chamber master cylinder. Factory drum brakes front and rear. Power convertible top works flawlessly, all original body panels and trim/glass. Currently has some engine dress-up but original gold "406" valve covers included, as are factory 15" steel wheels and full wheel covers. Car currently sports 15"x7" Tru-spoke fat wire chrome wheels with correct insignia center caps, radial white wall tires with 90% tread including spare. Original 6.70 x 15 bias-ply spare on stock rim included, as are pair exhaust resonators ( removed to enhance exhaust note). Restoration fully documented by receipts. This is a complete car with all trim pieces, stainless steel, chrome, etc. . Car lived its whole life in California where I bought in San Jose in about 1995. It was my daily driver until I moved to Oregon in 1999 where car has been in dry storage since. This is an original big block 352 car -- engine was rebuilt before I bought it. CA title in my name.Recent mechanical work done in the last few months to get it back on the road includes:Brand new replacement radiator, radiator hoses, heater hoses, and radiator cap with anti freeze.Brand new water pump and thermostat.Replaced transmission fluid and transmission lines to cooler.Replaced motor oil and filter.Rebuilt carburetor & replaced air cleanerRebuilt power steering control valve (was leaking badly) and replaced all 4 power steering hoses.Completely rebuilt brakes including re-manufactured master cylinder, new brake pads, new wheel cylinders, new brake hoses all around, converted to silicon brake fluid (a must for cars not driven daily). I do have a set of power brakes that I bought a while back that I'll include with the car, but are not currently installed.Repacked front wheel bearings with fresh grease.Complete tune up (wires, plugs, points, condenser, cap, rotor, etc.)Optima battery (another must for cars not driven daily)Car starts right up now runs, drives and shifts great. Other things to note:Floor pans are in perfect shape - NO RUSTThis is a true California car - the obvious places that rust even in CA sometimes (bottom of door corners and front of quarter panels have NO RUST. Nothing on the top bows, nothing in the trunk - see the pictures under the car up on the lift - you will not be disappointed.Tires and aluminum rims are in good shape.Exhaust system was replaced before it was parked with dual pipes - in great shape and it sounds awesome on this big block motor.Engine was rebuilt shortly before I bought it.Interior upholstery is in very good shape for the age, has a few minor imperfections, no major rips or tearsHas dash cover, but actual dash is not in bad shape, it does have a couple minor cracks that could be repaired.Top is on OK shape, pretty dirty and has a good size tear on the back corner. Electric top motor and hydraulic cylinders all work great - goes up and down like it should, latches, etc.All stainless steel trim and chrome appears to be there and in good shape. Some minor digs on stainless steel that could be pushed out. Some interior chrome needs attention.Bumpers have no damage with decent chrome.Grille is in near perfect condition (I can't find anything wrong with it).Body appears very straight with no obvious signs of major damage within it's lifetime.Black paint with burgundy clear tint (shows up in bright sun) is in ok shape - overall good coverage but there is some fading, checking on trunk lid and other places, blemishes and minor scratches consistent with an older paint job. There is a small area as some minor damage to very small area of left rear corner panel. There is no sign of major body damage to be found.Includes 1964 ford service manual seen in photos (I won't need it any more).I don't know what I might be missing - I am trying to represent the car as best I can but I have not driven it for some time - please ask me any questions you might have. Car is available in Pleasant Hill, Oregon for inspection.I have no idea what the true mileage is.Comes with California Title - the car has a current "non-operational" permit taken from CA before the car was moved to Oregon.
