He always kept it in in the garage (note that New Mexico does not salt the roads and we are a dry/desert climate...little rust) . Truck is classic 4.9 liter, 5 speed standard transmission and is OEM, Original Equipment Mechanicily mechanically, no alterations or additions.. I bought it in July of 2015; changed all the fluids, replaced the windshield, water pump, power steering pump, spark plug wires, rotor, plugs, filters, serpentine belt, Monroe shocks, leaf springs, coil springs, tires, front rotors, brakes, wheel bearings and more to make the truck as reliable and good running as possible. Drive it most every day, no leaks. This is the 4.9 liter fuel injected gas engine with 5 speed standard transmission. Two factory gas tanks total approx. 30 gallons, selector switch on dash. Sliding rear window in truck, matching window in camper shell. Rear bumper has a crease in the left side. Tree limb scratches near rear gas cap on left side. Up for sale is a very clean, very original 1978 Ford F-150 4x4 short bed that is driven daily. I have several of the '78 and '79 trucks and Broncos and this is by far one of the nicest four wheel drive trucks that I have seen or owned, especially for a short bed. I have owned this truck for over three years now and have used it as my shop truck every day. Everything works as it should and it drives great down the road at 70+ mph. I would not hesitate to drive this truck anywhere and have taken it on multiple 500+ mile long trips with no issues. The transmission (C6) and transfer case were professionally rebuilt (have receipts) about 2 years ago. The complete rear driveshaft and yokes were replaced at the same time. The transfer case is full time four wheel drive NP203, but the hubs have been changed to allow part time operation. The tires are less than a year old and have about 70% tread left. The 351M engine runs great and is all stock with the exception of the valve covers and headers. The exhaust is 2.5" true dual all the way from the headers back with dual stainless tips and is less than a year old. The majority of the black paint appears to be original, although I think that the silver was added at a later date. The truck seems to have originally been all black. The only flaws on the truck other than the 37 years of rock chips, small dents, and scratches, are one rust hole the size of a dime in the lower rear of the quarter panel and it would appear that the driver's side cab corner was patched at one time (see pictures). All of the floorboards, drip rails and inside bed are very solid as are the quarter panels and tailgate. It is not a factory A/C truck and it does not have a radio in it. The seat is in good condition but the vinyl has torn at several of the seams. The cushions are still in great shape, as are the the door panels, carpet, and dash pad. I have the original title for the truck dated December of 1977 (current Louisiana title too) as well as the original owners manual. This is really a great truck that is awesome just like it is or could very easily be restored to like brand new. It is very hard to find a four wheel drive short bed in this good of condition for this price. I am listing the truck with no reserve so it will sell. Any questions feel free to ask. 1977 Ford F150 Custom 4X4 (Short Bed)Just completed full frame off restoration. Goal was to restore this truck to new while maintaining the 1977 feel, building a capable 4X4 and having a reliable, head turning, fun to drive classic. This truck is a blast to drive and really brings back the 70’s. The following is a list of what was done to this truck. Drive Train:Engine: Period correct 351M Block. Bored .030. Installed Ford 400M’s Crank Shaft. Running Ford’s connecting piston rods with Hypereutectic Flat Top Pistons and Moly Rings. Engine was balanced and Compression is 9:1. Has Crane Camshaft (1500-5000 RPM), Edelbrock Performer RPM 351C 2V Aluminum Heads with Roller Rockers, Edelbrock Performer 400 Intake Manifold, Holley Avenger 770 cfm and Hedman Elite Thermal Coated Headers. Has plenty of horsepower while running on pump gas.Installed Oversized 2 Row Aluminum Radiator with 180 degree Thermostat. Running factory engine mounted fan. Engine runs cool even in 100+ weather. Truck has factory Mechanical Fuel Pump with new Stainless Fuel Lines and new 20 gallon Rear Gas Tank. Original gas tank in cab behind seat was removed and not replaced.The exhaust from the headers back is by Hooker Headers. It has Dual Exhaust with Glass Packs.Transmission: Replaced factory NP 235 (4 Speed) with NV 4500 (5 Speed). Both are manual transmissions. NV 4500 still has the famous “Granny” gear but adds synchronized gears and an overdrive. Installed new 180 tooth balanced flywheel with Centerforce pressure and clutch plate. Transfer Case: Completely rebuilt factory transfer case.Front Axle: Factory Dana 44. Media blasted axle housing and powder coated. Installed Detroit Truetrac (limited slip) Carrier with new ring and pinion gear (4:10 ratio). Chrome moly 30 spline inner and outer axles with Ox U-Joints and Warn Hubs. All bearings and ball joints are new.Rear Axle: Factory Ford 9”. Media blasted axle housing and powder coated. Installed Detroit Locker Carrier with new ring and pinion gear (4:11 ratio). Chrome moly 31 spline axles.Both front and rear Drive Shafts have been completely rebuilt with new U-Joints. Tires and Wheels:Tires: Goodyear Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar. (33x12.5R15LT)Wheels: Vintage Gambler Wheels. (15 x 10)There is not a spare tire for the truck. Chassis and Body:Frame: Truck was completely disassembled. The frame was sandblasted and powder coated. All new hardware was used to reassemble rolling chassis.Suspension: Installed Rough Country Springs and Shocks with 2.5” lift. Rear springs attach directly to axles, allowing the removal of the factory installed blocks. This cures the axle wrap problem these trucks typically have. Steering: The Steering Box, Power Steering Pump and all hoses are new. All of the steering linkage and joints are new. Installed Rough Country Steering Stabilizer. Body: The truck had minimal rust located on floor pans when purchased. However several panels and doors had repair work in the past. Therefore the floor pans, doors, front fenders and grill were replaced. The gas filler hole in the driver’s side of the cab was filled in due to removing gas tank in cab. The truck is painted in a two tone combination that is similar to what was available in 1977. However the blue is a current model Ford metallic blue. As a personal preference, the additional lower moldings were not installed. Pinstriping was done to separate the blue and white. Please note all pinstriping is painted and then clear coated over. The Ford lettering on the tailgate is also paint pinstriping with clear coat on top. Paint job is very good, but not a high end/priced job.The Side Moldings are original. They have been polished and show some signs of wear. Again this was a personal preference to reuse these.The Windshield, Vent Windows, Door Windows and Rear Sliding Window are all new. In addition all rubber and felt moldings along with weather stripping is new.Doors have new Window Regulators and Door Locks. The Door Latches have been restored. Hood Latch and all Tailgate Mechanisms with Hardware have been replaced. Both Front and Rear Bumpers are new. All Exterior Emblems have been replaced. Interior:All of the interior is new or restored. The Dash Pad, Steering Wheel, Steering Wheel Insert, Rear View Mirror, Carpet, Door Sill Plates, Seat Belts, Door Panels and Arm Rest are new. Brake Pedal, Gas Pedal, Clutch Pedal and Bright Light Switch Rubber Covers are new. The Visors, Head Panel and Seat have been professionally reupholstered. The Heating Unit has been restored to include new Heater Core and new Fan Motor. Box has been cleaned inside and restored. All gauges have been replaced except for the Speedometer. Speedometer does not work well, but was not replaced so that the mileage can be accurately tracked. If so desired, this can be replaced easily.Radio has been replaced using a simple current model with the original styled one speaker in dash being maintained. Glove Box has been completely rebuilt with new components and hardware.No additional aftermarket interior insulation was added in an attempt to have the truck have the original feel and sound. The headliner, door panels and carpet do provide insulation but not as much as if aftermarket insulation was used. Please note this truck did not have factory air conditioning. No air conditioning has been added as personal preference. However, air conditioning can be added. Electrical and Lighting:A new Wiring Harness by American Autowire was installed replacing all original wiring. The fuse box now uses current type fuses. Another change is that the truck uses a one wire alternator. The truck has a High Output 130 Amp Alternator so it now has the capability to run stereo amps, auxiliary lights and/or electrical upgrades like power windows and locks. Every single light has been replace. This includes every light housing and all lenses. Light, Wiper and Turn Signal Switches have all been replaced. Brakes:Every part of the brake system has been replaced. This includes; Booster, Master Cylinder, Brake Lines, Rotors, Drums, Calipers, Hydraulic Brake Cylinders, Brake Pads and all other miscellaneous springs and clips.All bushings were replaced on brake pedal assembly. As you can see, this is as close as you can get to a brand new 1977 Ford F150 4x4 Short Bed. It looks great!!! It runs great!!! There was nothing left to replace, fix or restore. I have a 1978 Ford 4x4 F150 custom for sale. It has a 400ci 6.6l gas engine with automatic transmission. This truck does run and drive good. Although the power steering is having some issues with it. I have put a brand new power steering pump on there, but doesn't seem to have fixed the issue. The body has scratches and dings on it in several place. The windshield has NO cracks in it. It has a grille guard on the front and a heavy duty bumper on the back with big clevis's for tow hooks. It has heavy duty bed rails on it. Has smoke stacks for the exhaust coming from the bed. It has a 6 in lift on it. Tires are in descent shape, but probably needs new ones for a good grip. The spare is brand new though. The dash is cracked as you can probably imagine. The radio is missing prior to my ownership, but does have a CB, unsure if it works or not though. Has the bully steps on the doors and some side handles on the cab. I havent seen a whole lot of rust other than the bed does have some places that looks thin. This would be a fun toy to play around in if someone was into mudding. I had originally bought it to fix up a little and use it to hunt, but I have come to find out I'm to busy to mess with it. This is an as is sell! I have worked on it, made a lot of improvements to it to ensure its continued dependability. I drive this truck to work every morning with no issues at all. Automatic transmission. Below is a list of information about the truck.- Red Ford F150 sits on a 6 inch suspension lift, and 4 inch Body lift.- BFG Offroad 35 x 12.5 x 15 inch tires, bullethole rims with lock bolts (tread is in perfect condition, see photos)- 5.8L V8 is a 351 Cleveland with a ton of power, motor was rebuilt by previous owner! 400+hp- Carburetor has been completely rebuilt recently- Newly Wired Electronic fuel pump and brand new Fuel Filter- Brand new Brake system and tubes- Custom dual exhaust (deep rumble that is quiet at highway speeds, sounds great)- Rear axle traction bars (can be seen in exhaust photo)All work was done by professional mechanics in shop, and is of the highest quality. The truck runs good but is not perfect and could use someone with more experience to fine tune some minor issues. In the mornings 1 pump of gas pedal and truck fires up but sometimes it dies and I have to turn over again then it's good. Anytime after that if I stop truck and restart with 1 crank. If the truck sits for a few minutes while I'm in a store then it takes about 7 seconds of turning over to fire up then it runs good again. AC needs charging but has run for me in the past. These thing I consider minor and part of the character of a 30 plus year old truck. O speedometer is off because of lift and larger tires so about 45 mph on speedometer is actually 65 mph. In order to correct its recommended to change gear in front and rear to a better size probably 4.56 so speed driven and drive gears can be changed to correct speedometer. There are not gears available for np208 transfer case with existing 3.0 gears in truck to correct speed. So mph app on phone works fine or about $1,500-$1,800 to change gears in front and rear axles and transfer case.Love this truck it has been great and will be a great project for someone else to continue.
