Here's a sweet old pickup that you can use every day, or on the weekends. Reluctantly selling, I have a need for a tractor more than this truck. I am the 2nd owner of this original paint West Coast vehicle, with the original senior owner living in Oregon, where this truck was trailered in from. This XL had about 68 thousand miles on it when I purchased it. It now has almost 73K. I was astonished at the condition of this Ford when I bought it. Living in Michigan, there's not many vehicles of this age running around in close to this condition. This truck has an old 2 tone look that was very popular in the late 70s, early eighties. I wasn't sure if I wanted this look when I first came across this pickup, but after owning it, I've grown to love the look and originality. I get compliments on it everywhere I go, and people remember having one like it. You just don't see them in the Rust Belt like this anymore, and they used to be everywhere. I've used this vehicle as a summer-only truck, and have properly stored it every winter. It has never seen salt or any corrosives on the body. As you can see by the pics, the body and chassis are exceptional. The only issues with the body are 2 small dings, and minor paint abrasions on the bed and tailgate where the cap had been installed. There were also six 1/4" holes drilled in the top of the bed rails to secure the aluminum cap. I saw a picture of it with the cap... I wish I had a chance to buy it with it on, but it had been discarded when I purchased the truck due to it making the pickup look "dated". It was cool, because it was the old white aluminum with 2 toned color matched panels. Oh well... that also explains the excellent condition of the bed. There was a piece of plywood fit to the bed, which prevented any real damage to the main surface. As to the current condition: This truck drives as good as my 2008, and is a pleasure to run around town in. We take it to Home Depot for mulch, and around on weekends to garage sales. My improvements have made this a turn-key vehicle, reliable as a rock. I would not hesitate to drive this to California, and the purchaser could road-trip this truck home if they had a mind to. It drives easily on the express-way and will cruise all day. I usually drive it at 65 on the E-way, but I've had it over 80 with no problem. The transmission only a 3-speed and not as highway friendly as our new multi-speed transmission vehicles. Mechanical Condition: Rebuilt the 1 Bbl carburetor. The truck starts very good. If it has sat 2 weeks, I can get it going in about three, 3 second cranks. If it sits overnight it will start in 1 crank, as it will when hot. It starts almost as if it has fuel-injection, which really surprised me being a long manifold straight six.(Just started it after sitting 1 week... started 1st crank in a few seconds.) New cap, rotor, and wires. Oil change and air filter. Coolant checked and topped off. Many of these trucks don't have the top to the coolant/washer fluid chamber, as this one does. Overflow works properly. Tires are about 2 years old with a few thousand miles. Brakes are excellent, stop straight and true, and look to have been recently replaced before my purchase. The master cylinder and booster may have been replaced, or just have that light rust patina, I'm not sure. All I know is the brakes are excellent. Even the parking brake works like new. Front end aligned with new Twin-I Beam Caster/Camber adjusters. Done just before tires. Drives straight and true down the road. No wobbles, shakes, pulling or drifting. Water pump replaced last year, as were the lower radiator hose, and all fan belts. Spare is excellent. I ran across an immaculate front bumper. Was a little better than what was there, so I put it on. Does not burn oil, leak, or smoke. Muffler and intermediate pipe are new. As far as the exhaust, it has a slight manifold leak at startup. It is not real loud, and quiets down within moments. I have not chased this down, as it has performed the same over the years, and gets whisper quiet within minutes. A/C is inop. I did not try to charge it with R-12. I wish I did, it probably still works, The belt is still on the compressor. I have been delighted with the ventilation in this truck. I don't have vent windows or a sliding back window in my new truck. You can tailor the ventilation to any condition or temperature with the rear slider and other windows, and be very comfortable. Cruise Control works, and is a delight on the E-way. Oil just changed on 10/12/14 for a fresh drive-away. All dash lights, gauges, AM/FM Stereo Cassette radio, wipers, washers, Hi-Beams, etc. function. Ashtray looks like it was never used. Cloth seat in very good shape, looks like Grandma's couch. Folds forward for rear storage. Seat belts fully functional. By the way, the dash is excellent with no cracks. Even along the speaker perforations, which are the 1st to split. Minor wear on the armrest of the drivers door which you can see. Also minor wear on the wood graining of the steering wheel. This truck has 2 gas tanks. There is a problem with getting fuel from the auxiliary tank. Doesn't seem to want to flow. I can hear the valve clunk as I move the selector located on the heating/cooling panel. Not sure what the problem is. I just fill the forward tank, which I think is 19 gallons. Glass is all in great shape. Transmission, rear end both sound and perform as new. I think that's about it.
