The outer body panels then bolt to these pieces of unibody. For example, the front fender on a vehicle bolts to the inner fender, or apron as it is often called. This apron,which is really just a thin layer of metal itself, is considered part of the vehicle's unibody. Protected only by the fender, this apron is easily damaged in even a low speed collision.
