1934 Ford Other Nobody built an ugly car in 1934, but somehow the 1934 Fords were special. When they were new, they sold quite well, and today, they remain some of the most highly-sought collector cars both in stock and modified form. Tidy proportions, dramatic fender lines, and that incredible heart-shaped grille make these as timeless as anything ever built. It explains why there’s a sizeable cottage industry dedicated to churning out fiberglass replicas and at any show you attend, there are sure to be more than a few ’34 Fords of all shapes, sizes, and styles.   Yet one thing remains constant: the most cherished of all ’34 Fords are the 3-window coupes made by Henry Ford himself. Sure, there are a dozen ways to get a plastic 3-window but 100% steel cars like this bright red Ford will always live at the very top of the Ford food chain. Fenders, hood, deck lid, all of it is made-in-1934 Henry Ford steel. It was a cost-no-object build that ran into the six-figure range and was finished three years ago, and represents a classic take on a design that really needs no help from amateur designers. That means the roof isn’t chopped, the bumpers are still in place, and even the hinges are still exposed on the outside of the bodywork. That bodywork is beautifully finished with expert attention to fit and panel gaps, resulting in one of the most carefully-assembled ’34 Fords we’ve ever seen. Check out the gaps around the doors, the way the hood sits flush with the cowl, and the way the deck lid follows the contours of the bodywork. Once it was all aligned, smoothed, and sanded, a half-dozen coats of brilliant Torch Red paint went on, followed by a few coats of clear, a round of wet sanding and buffing, and a few more coats of clear to give it a deep, lustrous finish that seems to glow from within. There’s no metallic in the finish, no questionable graphics that’ll be dated in 10 years, not even a pinstripe to highlight the beltline. This sucker is CLEAN!  It also got a lot of fresh chrome and stainless, again all OEM-spec, not repro stuff, including the lovely pointed grille and big, round headlights that always look great. It retains the twin horns that were included with the Deluxe models, as well as the cowl lights, a feature we’ve always loved. The bumpers have had their guards removed and the rear bumper is a custom piece that removes the dip that was ostensibly to clear the rear-mounted spare tire, but it retains a very OEM look. The radiator cap is a simple plain piece instead of the greyhound, but if you like that look, repros are available and that’s something that I might choose if I were keeping this car for myself. You’ll also find those lovely scroll-shaped door handles and twin taillights with blue-dot lenses, a traditional touch. It’s likely that this car originally carried a rumble seat, but in the interest of practicality, it’s been removed in favor of a trunk, which is probably the right choice on a rod built for long-distance cruising.  The stunning tan leather interior cost nearly $35,000 all by itself and it shows. Like the exterior, it retains a lot of the original design elements, including the door hardware and garnish moldings, but there’s not a single component that hasn’t been massaged or modified to improve the look or function. The door panels are works of art, offering a variety of textures and shapes that highlight the contours of the custom bench seat. That bench seat adds a lot of leg and head room to the compact cabin, making it feel a lot more spacious inside and making it all-day comfortable. Note the cool built-in controls for the Sony AM/FM/CD stereo head unit, which is stashed behind the seat—very trick! Top grade leather covers almost every surface you can touch, and even the banjo-style steering wheel is wrapped in matching butterscotch hides. Vintage Air supplied the HVAC system, and the vents are neatly integrated into a neat panel below the original dash so everything looks like it was born there. A custom billet instrument panel holds a full array of white-faced VDO instruments, and the original secondary control locations in the center of the dash now hold the knobs for headlights, wipers, and even the original ashtray. The T-handle crank opens the windshield and the cowl vent is also still fully operational, perfect for those days when you don’t quite need the A/C. In addition, the rear window cranks down to make for pleasant breezes inside without being too windy and there’s a bit of storage space behind the seat. Overhead there’s a consolette from a late-model that’s expertly integrated into the design and offers a pair of map lights as well as a special compartment for your sunglasses. In back, the trunk is fully upholstered in matching materials and the side panels there are just beautifully crafted. There’s simply nothing on this car that is merely adequate.  The choice of hardware can make or break a rod, and with this one designed to be a cruiser, reliability was as important as performance. As a result, there’s a Corvette-spec 350 cubic inch LT1 V8 living under the hood. Complete with fuel injection from Street & Performance, it starts instantly and idles smoothly, even when it’s cold, and with more than 300 horsepower on tap, performance is more than entertaining. Lots of chrome and polished aluminum make the engine bay pop, and with OEM-looking Corvette covers to hide the wiring and plumbing, it looks clean and sleek, so you’ll be eager to show it off every chance you get. There’s a giant aluminum radiator up front that’s cooled by an equally massive electric fan, and a serpentine belt drive system for the accessories ensures trouble-free motoring. You can see that they took great pains to hide the wiring so there’s nothing hanging on the smooth firewall and even the hoses for the A/C were carefully routed to distract as little as possible. Custom block-hugger headers lead to a fabricated dual exhaust system with mellow-sounding mufflers and turn-downs just ahead of the rear axle.  The frame itself appears to be the original Ford piece, albeit heavily reinforced and modified. Most of it has been boxed for strength and a custom front crossmember carries an independent suspension with polished stainless A-arms and adjustable coil-over shocks. The rear suspension is a traditional 4-link with another set of chrome coil-overs and a trick sway bar that tucks up into the frame. The LT1 is backed by a 700R4 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission whose overdrive gear allows triple-digit cruising speeds with effortless ease. Out back there’s a 9-inch Ford housing that’s been filled, smoothed, and painted to match the bodywork (in fact, everything under the car is either painted bright red, chrome plated, or polished stainless), and filled with 3.73 gears. Wilwood supplied a set of their disc brakes, both front and rear, with polished aluminum calipers and the hats on the rotors finished to match the bodywork. A new stainless gas tank hangs out back. Billet Specialties Legacy wheels are an awesome choice and carry staggered 205/60/15 front and 215/75/15 rear Michelin radials for a traditional look that rides great.  This is one of those rods that just gets more and more impressive the longer you look at it. Professionally built and with only 2000 miles on the clock, it’s still at the top of its game and has never seen rain or inclement weather. It’s totally sorted, 100% functional, and ready to enjoy, whether your preference is show or go. And there’s just nothing like going to a show and telling the guys with their plastic rods that yours is 100% Henry Ford steel. This ’34 just gets everything right. Normal 0 You are bidding on a beautifully-restored and modernized 1950 Ford Custom Deluxe Convertible with a show-quality paint job, modern EFI 302ci V-8, automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes and fully-customized leather interior with power windows and air conditioning! This Ford convertible has the best of both worlds… 50’s styling and modern creature-comforts, convenience and reliability! Other than the body and the chrome, this entire car is basically new – over $50k spent on this restoration. This car has only 3,822 miles on it since its build in the early 2000s. She is a head-turner from the gorgeous paint to the rich and warm custom leather interior. One of the nicest Ford convertibles out there! No disappointments. This car did make the car show circuit so you know you’re getting a very nice car! Absolutely beautiful - a stunning example! She is TURN KEY and ready for her next adventure! Everything works, fly in and drive this one home! She was built on the West Coast a little over 10 years ago. The body and chrome are original but most everything else on the car has been replaced. The show-quality paint is very rich and deep and it shows how straight the body is! She runs as good as she looks too! The Ford 302ci purrs like a kitten! The current owner bought the car just after it was built in 2005. He has rarely driven it over the last ten years (as indicated by the miles - she was part of his impressive collection) but he but did make some improvements 2 years ago including the addition of the EFI system and upgrades to the ignition and fuse box. She is in beautiful condition and has been stored and babied in a heated garage. Comes with all the receipts, motor rebuild specs, wiring diagrams, manuals and even the paint color/formula! There is also documentation - the builder, the painter, etc. Options include power top, power steering, power disc brakes, power windows, air conditioning, 2-speed wiper motor, modern stereo/CD system, Continental Kit and tilt steering column. The gentleman owner is an older collector who is selling it as his tastes have changed. He purchased the car approximately ten years ago for over $50k but is seeking considerably less to find this car a good home. The Body is very solid, shiny, and straight with a deep show-quality paint job! Body gaps are very nice. Paint was a GM dark carmine, Dupont Centari acrylic enamel which closely matches the original color of the car. Being an older build, the body and paint are incredibly nice! All of the chrome was replated at the time of the build. The condition of the chrome and brite work is in very nice to excellent condition except for the front bumper and front marker lights, which need to be rechromed again. It’s the only drawback on this car. The glass and weatherstripping are in great condition and were replaced during the build. Again it’s an older build and most everything was attended to at that time. The Stayfast cloth electric power convertible top is in very nice condition as is the glass window and chrome frame. The top does come with a black boot cover. All of the windows, doors, trunks, and hood operate, lock and unlock. The hood has an interior hood release. The Custom Interior is “Glove-Soft” leather, which complements the deep maroon exterior. The custom interior colors are matched throughout. The leather is in outstanding shape with no rips, tears or even wear! Everything works from the rebuilt gauges to the Vintage Air R-12 system. The electrical system has been completely upgraded to 12-volt and modernized with new fuse box, power windows and power top motors! A new modern Pioneer am/fm CD stereo system is installed. A fully-rebuilt tilt steering column from a 90’s truck was added for comfort. The Drivetrain was completely rebuilt at the time of the build and has roughly 3,800 miles on it. The Ford 302ci was completely rebuilt from top to bottom along with the C-4 transmission (machine shop receipts come with it). Motor and trans run and operate perfectly. With the new Electronic Fuel Injection system it runs even better with reliability! It also has all-new cooling, starting and charging systems as well. The ignition is MSD Pro-Billet distributor and MSD 6A ignition box. The EFI system is a Fast EFI system. The Undercarriage is in nice condition too! Floor pans and frame are original and in GREAT condition. Frame is fully boxed. The steering system is a Mustang II Power Rack and all components with the steering, braking and suspension were replaced. Has front and rear sway bars. Tires are WSW radial tires, 215/75/R15. The original rearend was replaced with a completely-rebuilt Ford 9 inch with all-new drum brakes. The exhaust is an aluminized dual system. Other info: The front windows are power but the rear windows are manual roll-up.Being an older build and not having been driven much in the last few years she could use a few beauty enhancements. She could use a detailing to bring her back to show quality. The front bumper needs to be rechromed as it’s peeling. A couple of the custom dash knobs need to be replaced as they are stripped and one is missing. Having been driven, the body does have some stone chips on the front. Also, there is a large chip between the front fender and the hood and a scrape mark on the spare tire cover on the rear. Again, we have the paint codes so touch-ups could be performed. Car comes with one set of keys and clear Ohio title. Terms: Contact must be made by the buyer within 48 hours and a non-refundable $750 Paypal deposit is due within 48 hours of end of auction close, balance due within 7 days of auction close as cash or bank wire only. Due to space limitations and other upcoming auctions, buyer MUST take possession within 7 days of auction close unless other arrangements are agreed upon. We can store this vehicle for $125 a month (in advance) if you need time to make affordable shipping arrangements. Paid storage is in a dry, heated, secure indoor location. I do not finance. No trade or barter. I am not responsible for any fees, or taxes or any out-of-pocket costs. Buyer is responsible for all state, county, city taxes and fees, as well as title/registration fees in the state that the vehicle will be registered. No warranty, sold as is. This car has been consigned to me for sale, but I am not the owner. I have made my best effort to accurately represent the car based on what I have observed in evaluating it and preparing it for sale, and what I have been told by the owner, but this is the extent of my knowledge. There are no guarantees. There is no warranty. You are welcome to arrange a viewing of this vehicle. House of Mouse Racing sells on eBay with the ID of Buyitnowpaymelots. Follow us to receive notifications of upcoming listings. Shipping is the Buyer’s responsibility. Will not ship but will try to work with you if you hire a shipping company. I can help with local shipping and work with your shipper. However, since this is my residence, arrangements will have to be made for the shipping company to pick up the car when I can be home to attend it. Buyer is responsible for all shipping and related arrangements and payments. Vehicle must be paid in full before it leaves my premises. If shipping out of the country I do have a shipper that can help make your arrangements. He ships mostly to the Scandinavian countries. Insurance: I highly recommend that the buyer put insurance on the vehicle upon purchase as I am not responsible for any damage incurred after leaving my premises. Please ask all of your questions and/or come see the vehicle before you bid because a bid is a commitment to purchase. As you can see by my feedback (100% positive), I describe my items accurately. The Body is ALL Ford steel and is solid as a rock! There’s no rust to speak of anywhere and no major dings or dents. The doors and hood work perfectly and the body gaps look great. Some of the glass and seals have been replaced and some are originals with cracks that were kept for the rustic look. Windows do operate. The original wood bed is intact and in great shape for it’s age. Interior has been customized with new custom door panels, seat, carpeting, headliner, and modern GM tilt steering column. Everything was replaced from the headliner to the carpeting. No rips or tears. The original gauges have been replaced by Dolphin gauges with the vintage look. The electrical system was converted to 12 volt including the gauges. The wiper system was also upgraded. The directionals, marker lights, head lights, and wipers all work! Aftermarket air conditioning was installed and works perfectly. An aftermarket stereo has been added for your wife’s or girlfriend’s needs. The Drivetrain is completely rebuilt with a 350ci Chevy small block that has a great rumble, doesn’t smoke, make any noises or leak. The engine is detailed nicely with lots of shiny brite work! The trans is a 350 turbo, which shifts as it should, no slipping or issues. All the accessories are new including the alternator, a/c compressor and aluminum radiator. It has been driven to shows hours away with no problems or overheating issues. The Undercarriage is super clean just like the body. Floor pans and frame are original and in great condition. The frame was “C” notched to get it even lower. The Heidt rack system works great. Along with the tubular control arms and coil-over shocks this makes one nice-riding truck. The dual exhaust system is comprised of headers to a split with dumps so you can uncork them when needed. Other new parts include brake and fuel lines, rear shocks and rear drum brakes. A new fuel tank was added under the rear portion of the bed with the filler located in the bed floor. The retro Rocket wheels are new with new tires too. Other info: This car has no e-brake. The aftermarket wiper system came apart under the dash and will need to be serviced. The seat does have some marks in the center from something that may or may not come out with professional cleaning. A good portion of this truck was built by a previous owner. This truck is not a fresh build, but is a recent build. It has been driven and enjoyed. We made some additional modifications to enhance it. There is one key for ignition and none for the doors. There are no receipts or manuals, it’s being auctioned as you see...”As Is” Car comes with one set of factory keys and clear Ohio title. Please message me for any other info you might want! Normal 0 You are bidding on a very solid, mostly original, Oklahoma 1956 Ford Fairlane 2-Door Club Post Sedan. It’s in mostly original condition and is a nice summer time cruiser! She runs like a top and most things work! She is pretty straight and has a great curb presence with a tasteful two-tone paint scheme and dual spotlights. This corn-belt car is very solid and clean and still has all the FACTORY driveline along with all the FACTORY body panels it was born with! Only a few pieces of interior and exterior items have been changed. The original 312ci motor purrs and the automatic transmission doesn’t wait to move you along. This has been regularly been driven for car shows throughout the summer. Fly in and drive home. Please enjoy the video: http://youtu.be/NvbiBQB4wto The Body This Club Sedan has been driven and has 91,000 miles and some of the age is showing. The body is very solid but the lower front fenders have had some minor body work done decades ago and it is starting to show. Doors and quarters look great as do the trunk drop-offs, trunk floor, trunk filler panel, and spare tire well. Body is nice and shiny in its present state, no major dents but the paint is decades old and it does have several areas where the paint is peeling and flaking. A bit of pinstriping was added recently to give it more of a fifties vibe. It’s basically a stored survivor and could be used as a cruiser or restored to original factory condition without the major expenses of rust repair. The chrome, stainless and brite work on the car is in good-to-excellent condition. Just the bumpers, mirrors and door handles need to be rechromed. The bumpers could be polished to make them more presentable. The bumpers are very straight and have the factory bumper guards, front and rear. Window channels look good and so does the glass (no cracks or sanding marks). All the exterior trim is there with minimal pitting. Doors, trunk and hood operate as they should with matching keys. Weatherstripping and rubber are good for their age but are original pieces. Factory fender skirts have all their mounting hardware Interior The interior is good condition for being an older restoration - probably in the '80s. Seats are in very nice condition. No rips or tears. But being an older restoration there is some minor wear. The dark green loop carpeting is in good condition. Seats and door panels are nice but will need a cleaning. Although most of the interior is nice, there may be evidence of wear due to the age of the car. Headliner for example is starting to fray at the rear corners as is the package tray. Most everything works on the dash and the original radio is in the trunk and does not work. The steering wheel is in good condition with minor aging but does have a leather steering wheel wrap on it. The Drivetrain is a 312ci with 4-barrel carb which runs great, idles and drives, doesn’t overheat, or really leak but has not had a tune up in a few years. The transmission operates and shifts as it should. No problems in the rearend. Steering is a bit loose and brakes, I was told by the owner, will need replaced soon but it does stop fine. The Undercarriage is in nice condition too. Floor pans, rockers and frame are original and in good condition. Trunk drop-offs and trunk floor are nice as listed above. Spare tire, along with the jack, are in the trunk. Interior of the trunk has a trunk mat and the floor under it looks great. The dual exhaust system looks very good and has “FORD” accessory tips installed. The white wall tires are nice and come with factory hubcaps. Other info: The car is in pretty much original condition with the following items replaced… battery, tires and radio. Temperature gauge need is stuck all of the way to the right. The car only starts in neutral. Please review the pictures regarding paint and body issues. I’m listing some of the more obvious issues but the pictures display additional flaws. Front passenger headlight bucket has major paint peeling. Hood lip has some minor rust bubbles as you can see from the pictures. Back deck in a few places on the top of the quarter panels have some paint peeling issues. Again, this is a 55-year old car that is basically original. It really has never been restored so we have tried to list everything we could but it does have a few little bumps and bruises that happen with normal driving. Car comes with one set of factory keys and clear Ohio title. Please message me for any other info you might want! It’s got a Shelby serial number, it’s in the Shelby Registry, and it has the full approval of Carroll Shelby himself. It’s one of only two GT500E convertibles built by Unique Performance, with the other being a shop demonstrator vehicle that was lost in the chaos following Unique’s collapse. We’ll get to that story in a moment, but the important thing here is this particular GT500E convertible, which is simply spectacular in every way and shows just 684 miles since it was built, is one of only two ever built by Unique Performance. The story has to go all the way back to 1995 when Disney somehow acquired the rights to the “Gone in 60 Seconds” story originally filmed in the early 1970s. Essentially, it’s a 2-hour car chase with a featured 1971 Mustang named Eleanor doing some pretty impressive stuff. But 25 years later, maybe it was time for a reboot, so they gave it a giant budget, plenty of star power (Nicholas Cage and Angelina Jolie, among other notables), and had Jerry Bruckheimer blow it up, er, direct it. The new film had a lot more drama built in, a more cohesive story (such as it was), but one thing was the same: a Mustang named Eleanor figured very prominently in the action. Noted designer Steve Stanford was tapped to design the new “hero” car, and the result is arguably the most recognizable Mustang ever built. The movie cars had input from Chip Foose and were built by Cinema Vehicle Services and were never really intended for public consumption, although one or two were built for promotional purposes and of the eleven or twelve—nobody’s sure—three have come to auction in recent years with one trading hands for more than $1,000,000. That’s a pretty big number for a Mustang of any kind and shows you just how much star power that movie really carried. Even 15 years later, these cars are icons. Anyway, Eleanor Fever reached its heights in the years following the premiere of the latest “Gone in 60 Seconds” film. Inevitably and as expected, Carroll Shelby got involved and tribute cars started showing up at shows around the country. Arguably the finest Eleanor Mustangs were coming out of a little shop in Farmer’s Branch, Texas called Unique Performance, and they quickly struck a deal with both Carroll Shelby and Chip Foose to become, essentially, the modern-day equivalent of Shelby-American circa 1967. The Eleanor Mustangs, including the Super Snakes, were special because they had a pedigree, something that none of the other Eleanor clones could offer. Like the Cobras being built at Shelby’s Las Vegas facility, they were “continuation” cars, not replicas, and as such were afforded special privileges in the Shelby community, not the least of which was inclusion in the SAAC roster, an honor granted only to genuine Shelby automobiles. This is kind of a big deal. Now the rest of the story is perhaps even more dramatic than the movie itself, and it’s also what makes the Unique Performance Eleanor Mustangs so highly sought today, because a great backstory always adds value. For reasons that aren’t altogether clear, Unique was collecting deposits like mad on the Eleanor Mustangs and seemingly couldn’t build them fast enough. Some folks seem to believe there was a Ponzi scheme going on where new deposits were used to finish old builds and eventually the whole thing just couldn’t support itself. Whether it was intentional or not is impossible to say, because the guys who did it aren’t talking. Were they victims of their own success who just couldn’t keep up with demand, or were they really out to steal from rich guys who wanted a slice of movie magic in their garages? At this point, it’s impossible to say, but the safe bet is that the truth is somewhere in between. Eventually, some irate buyers who had placed rather substantial deposits to get their place in line at Unique Performance called in the authorities. After a lot of finger-pointing, some issues involving reproduction bodies and authentic VINs, and a whole host of other sordid accounting problems, Unique Performance was forced out of business forever, ending their relationship with Shelby, who, having been blamed for many of the problems, was none too pleased with the situation himself. It’s a classic story of good intentions being spoiled by money, fame, and success. Carroll Shelby, who was named in several lawsuits by angry customers has apparently tapped two other shops to complete those cars for clients. Nevertheless, the cars built by Unique Performance are held in higher regard than any of the other “clones” and subsequent “approved” builds, but whether that’s because of or despite their story remains open to debate. In the Shelby world, there’s definitely a pecking order, and the cars built by Unique Performance remain special to this day. And that brings us full circle back to this stunning GT500E convertible. In the film, Eleanor was a Shelby GT500 fastback and that’s what Unique Performance was building. Most were Pewter with black stripes, just like in the film, and as a custom build, you could pretty much tailor it to your exact specifications. The options list was extensive and I’m pretty sure that if you could imagine it, the guys at Unique Performance would build it for you. Somewhere along the line, someone at Unique decided to build an Eleanor convertible, which they did, painting it white with blue stripes and giving it every trick they could throw at it. That car became a demonstrator and a part of Unique’s showroom display and a show vehicle at events like the SEMA show in Las Vegas. And until this car was built, that demonstrator was the only convertible ever built. This convertible Eleanor is the second of two built by Unique Performance, and the only one built for a customer. It varies from the demonstrator car only in that it has black stripes instead of blue, but otherwise packs just about every upgrade they could throw at an Eleanor Mustang. Original sticker price? Almost $190,000, a substantial figure for any vintage Mustang, Shelby or not. It was built near the end of Unique’s run so there are no others coming from that particular shop (there’s another shop currently building such cars, staffed largely by the truly talented guys who got left out in the cold when Unique Performance folded), so it’s definitely one of only two in existence. And with the legal troubles Unique faced, nobody’s quite sure what became of the first Eleanor convertible. Did the Feds seize it? Sold off in bankruptcy? Stolen? Repossessed by Shelby? Nobody seems to know and it hasn’t surfaced in the eight years since the company folded. So if you want a documented, Shelby-approved, Unique Performance Eleanor GT500E convertible, well, there’s only one and this is it. Looking at this car, it’s obvious that whatever management’s problems were, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the guys who actually built the cars. This car’s build quality easily exceeds the very best of what Shelby and Ford were doing in the 1960s and is representative of what a quarter-million dollars would buy in a high-end custom shop in the mid-2000s. It’s simply jaw-dropping in every way possible. There’s original Mustang sheetmetal skillfully blended with the Eleanor components that make these cars so special, and the transition from fastback to convertible was skillfully done so this car looks every bit as nasty as the cars in the film. Build quality, as I said, is pretty darned impressive. Unlike the original Shelbys, whose fiberglass pieces would fit better or worse depending on the temperature and humidity on the day it was assembled, this car has tight gaps, exacting panel alignment, and the modern composite pieces like the distinctive Unique Performance domed hood and Shelby-style deck lid are immune to those particular foibles. The nose cone carries an array of lights, all of which are fully functional, and it, too, fits flush with the surrounding bodywork, something that even Ford could never quite master. The side pipes are cleverly concealed inside flush-fitting side skirts and the rear fascia offers sequential Thunderbird-style taillights, although these appear to be modern components, not junkyard cast-offs. The paint, which is a pure, brilliant white rather than Ford’s softer Wimbledon White, is accentuated with black stripes, which, with the black interior, is a more consistent look than the blue stripes might have been, and it does carry the requisite “GT500E” insignia on the rockers. If you want a car that generates attention, I’ll admit that nothing I’ve ever driven does it better than this car. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, stops to watch this Mustang go by. Inside, it’s pure Mustang with a few modern upgrades to make it a no-compromises Mustang. The most noticeable change are those form-fitting Scat ProCar bucket seats, which you’ll probably need given the grip that the suspension generates. I can only imagine trying to drive this car with the slippery and flat original chairs—no thanks! Obviously everything inside is new, including the carpets, door panels, dash pad, and other Mustang components, and with so few miles, it’s all in as-new condition. The original dashboard and instrument panel remain intact, but the gauges are modern dials with Carroll Shelby’s signature on their faces, as well as a Cobra logo. And speaking of Ol’ Shel’s signature, it appears inside this car at least six times, and throughout the car perhaps 11 or 12 times, just in case you didn’t know what it was. In true Shelby style, there is no center console, but the shifter for the Tremec 5-speed manual gearbox is a trick billet aluminum piece that is as quick and precise as a toggle switch, but needs a firm hand to manage it. This is not a car you simply drive, you need to master it and with 450 horsepower on tap, you’d better be at the top of your game. But if you do decide to just go cruising, the GT500E will happily oblige with potent and functional A/C, a great-sounding Sony XPlod AM/FM/CD/MP3/iPod stereo system, and a leather-wrapped tilt steering wheel. 5-point safety harnesses are a great feature in a car with this much potential and are properly installed with heavy-duty anchor plates in the floor. Back seat access is still quite good and you’ll note that the bench seat has been upholstered to match the modern buckets up front. Overhead there’s a beautifully fitted black canvas power convertible top with a stock-style folding glass rear window and it stows under a matching black boot that fits quite well, even with the custom 4-point roll bar in place. The only notable defect on the entire car is a blemish on the leading edge of the top, noticeable up close but not a big deal, especially since the top will likely stay out of sight for a majority of its life. It also offers a full-scale trunk with a neatly installed fuel cell in the floor and a very trick filler neck that attaches to the quarter panel’s billet flip-up style cap. As I said, the attention to detail on this car is very impressive. Horsepower is not an issue thanks to a 351 Windsor V8 punched out to 408 cubic inches. It’s a neat fit in the Mustang’s engine bay, and while the original GT500s were big block cars, this one makes big block power without the big block weight. As a result, it’s a nimble handler without sacrificing that big hit of torque that you get when you crack the throttle. That throttle is attached to a Hilborn-style fuel injection system with eight individual velocity stacks, which makes for a very impressive appearance when you open the hood. It also works like it should, because this car starts easily and idles perfectly, even when it’s cold, and the torque curve is more of a straight line with seemingly endless reserves at any speed. Everything under the hood is detailed for show, with polished aluminum, chrome, and anodized components throughout, including a trick billet serpentine accessory system that keeps everything humming along. Inner fenders are a textured material that’s probably indestructible and provides a nice background for the shiny hardware. There’s a giant aluminum radiator up front, again with Carroll Shelby’s signature on it and the car’s serial number, and even on warm days idling in traffic with the A/C on, it never threatens to overheat. Perhaps most importantly to collectors, the original Shelby VIN tag is still on the inner fender, proving that this car is, indeed, a certified genuine Shelby, with the “C” on the tail end denoting “convertible.” The chassis was heavily reinforced to make the GT500E a handler as well as a straight-line threat, a well-rounded performance car for the 21st century. The front suspension is familiar with A-arms and coil-over shocks, as well as a modern rack-and-pinion steering system for laser-sharp precision. The rear suspension is incredibly trick, and please take a good look at the photos because this is some truly spectacular engineering. It’s a familiar 9-inch, albeit with a nodular center section and 3.73 gears inside, but the inboard coil-over shocks on bell cranks provide improved axle control without the unsprung weight, so it rides and handles like a much younger car. There’s also a torque arm and a modified Watt’s linkage for lateral location, all hanging on a special tubular subframe to keep it locked down. The side pipes are fed by a custom-built exhaust system with special mufflers built especially for these cars and the soundtrack is simply spectacular. You’ll also notice subframe connectors to reinforce the drop-top’s tub, heavy-duty torque boxes, and giant vented and cross-drilled disc brakes at all four corners. Trick 17-inch Halibrand style wheels with knock-offs give it an authentic ‘60s Shelby look but allow the use of modern 245/40/17 front and 275/40/17 rear BFGoodrich G-Force radials that’ll bounce your eyeballs off the inside of your skull. How does it drive? Superbly. Turn the key and it starts instantly and idles perfectly right from the get-go. Power delivery is smooth and linear, the ride is supple but capable, and while it still feels like a vintage Mustang, no car built 45 years ago had this kind of performance. It’ll spin the tires in third gear if you get on it too hard, but the brakes are there to bail you out if you get in over your head. Nevertheless, this is not a car for amateurs or rookies, so be warned that they didn’t tame the animal, they merely put a suit on it and took it out on the town. With just under 700 miles on the build, it is still virtually new in every possible way. The paint is unmarked, the interior shows no signs of use, and everything works like it should. It’s still a vintage Mustang, but having enjoyed thousands of hours of attention, it’s something more today. Documented with original paperwork, including a written warranty and final delivery checklist, this is a highly pedigreed Shelby GT500E that stops everyone in their tracks when they first see it. It’s a one-owner car, too, so there’s an unbroken chain of ownership back to day one. There are plenty of Eleanor clones out there, and you can buy a lesser car for less money. But they’re all expensive and if you want a documented, one-of-two convertible from the guys that started it all, this is it. Protect your investment with a pedigree, and as a bonus, you also get one of the most beautifully finished and capable Mustangs we’ve ever seen. Extraordinary. Up Up for sale is a 1963 Ford Galaxie XL 500 Ming Green Convertible that has had a complete frame off restoration. The original plan for this car was just to clean up the undercarriage, touch up the exterior paint, and clean up the engine compartment. However, the car had at least three coats of paint that was chipping off very easily, so the decision was made to give the car a frame off restoration. Once the body was stripped of all trim and interior components, it spent eighteen months on a rotisserie. The door braces were fabricated to keep the body as rigid as possible while on the rotisserie. The bottom was completely wire wheeled to remove any crud so that the underside could be blasted with a garnet blast media to prevent metal distress. The doors, inner fenders, deck lid, and hood were media blasted with plastic. All sheet metal repairs were completed, including the underside. The only new metal welded in, was along the passenger side inside rear quarter. Mounting brackets have been added for rear seat belts. The entire body was painted with zinc chromate primer. New seam sealer was added and the car was brushed for a factory look. Sandable primer was them applied and the body was prepped for color. The underside was paited with black schutz, which is a thick 3M paint with a small texture. The firewall could have been painted body color or black, depending on where it was assembled. Body color was chosen to make the engine compartment "pop". The door jambs, firewall, and truck compartment were all painted body color. The body was no ready to be assembled to frame for final color. This was done so there would be no stress applied to the paint as was reassemble to the body. The frame was moved to my home shop, where I stripped it of all components. It was then taken to a commercial sand blast company. The frame was found to be in excellent condition with only surface rust and no repairs were required. After it was blasted, it was primed and painted black with a hardener added. I brought the frame back to my shop to commence assembly. The rear end and drive shaft were sent out to have the seals replaced and given a thorough cleaning and inspection. The engine was rebuilt using custom pistons manufactured by Wiseco Piston Company. After installing the rear end to the frame, the rear brakes and drums were installed. The new stainless steel brake and fuel lines were then installed. Next, the power steering mechanism and new steering hoses were installed. The steering pump, valves, and cylinder were all rebuilt. The restored front suspension and brakes were installed next. Then, the engine was painted and mated to the transmission and installed onto the chassis. The last thing to do on the frame was to add the exhaust system. Reproduction mufflers with one of the chambers removed were used for a thoatier sound. All of the exhaust hangers have been rebuilt. The resonators were not put in, but the pipes are there so they can be added later. All of the original clamps and fasteners were used on the frame and body of the car. Everything was cleaned and glass beaded before receiving a fresh silver cad plating. This completed the rolling chassis. Next, it was time to assemble the body to the rolling chassis on a two post lift. New rubber body mounts and refurbished hardware finished the job. The temporary door bracing was then removed. The doors were installed, along with the trunk lid. The restored radiator support and inner fender wells were installed to support and align the fenders. The fenders were then fit and aligned for the body lines and prepped for final sanding. Once the final sanding was complete, the fenders were removed. The fenders and hood were painted separately because the assembled car is too long for the paint booth. The car was then masked and painted. Three coats of body color and tree coats of clear coat were applied. Once the car was painted, it was moved back to my home shop and the paint was left to cure for a few months. The hood and fenders were installed after the engine compartment was complete. The power brake booster was also rebuilt. A custom maintenance free battery that resembles a 1963 battery was purchased and installed. A new old stock fan decal was also obtained. Next, dynamat was installed in the cockpit and inside the doors. Once that was done, we started assembling the guts of the doors. Once again, all of the fasteners have been restored to original. The wing vent mechanisms were rebuilt. The exterior trim was restored for the previous owner. I chose not to use any snap on connectors and instead used post and nuts. All new wiring was used on the car with the exception of the dash harness that was professionally looked at. The wiring and lights were installed, connected and tested. The rear bumper was then installed. The front bumper was installed after the front fenders and hood had been installed and aligned. The hood pull is a new old stock part. The front trim was then completed. For the interior, the dash pad was professionally redone and painted to match the interior trim. The dash frame had been glass beaded and painted interior color. The clock was also rebuilt. The entire dash was assembled on the bench in my garage. A new fuel gage and all new lenses were installed. An AM/FM radio ($129 option in 1963) was also installed. All of the chrome on the interior and exterior was redone along with the stainless steel. New carpet and door sills were installed. A new heater box, vent assemblies, and firewall insulation were all installed. The completed dash was then installed and tested. New gas and brake pedals were installed, along with the parking brake assembly. The steering column was then installed and connected. Next, the console was installed with a new plastic shift indicator plate. A new pair of convertible top hydraulic cylinders, new hydraulic pump, and new hoses were installed. The completely refurbished convertible top frame was re-assembled on the car and tested for operation. All the bushings for the wiper motor assembly were replaced and the assembly was installed and tested. All new glass, that has been etched with the proper Ford logo and date, was installed. Next, the door panels, kick panels, and rear seat panels were installed. The seats were installed after I had new foam installed. The covers had been installed by the previous owner, but new foam was not used. The seat frames were completely restored. The trunk received new cardboard panels, decals, and a correct burtex mat. The jack was restored, including the proper plating, along with the trunk latch mechanism. A new bias ply tire with the sticker is in the trunk. The new black convertible top was installed by a professional. The proper bias ply black wall tires were installed along with NOS simulated wire wheel hubcaps. This car was gone over by Don Allen, a Galaxie expert from Georgia to confirm that everything was done correctly. The car won it's AACA First Junior in 2012 in Reading, Pennsylvania on the first try. The car then won the AACA Senior in 2013 in Auburn, Indiana on the first try. In 2014, the car won Best in Class at the Ford Nationals in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
