Almost every aspect of this truck has been restored or upgraded with modern performance parts. Starting with a healthy 525 horsepower 392 cubic inch Hemi V8 from a 1958 Chrysler; the engine has been bored .030? over with a shaved block and heads and has a Comp camshaft with high dome pistons. Custom dual-cone air intakes feed the Edlebrock carburetor with an electronic choke. The carburetor has been fitted with MSD electronic ignition for reliability. The builder clearly intended this truck to be driven frequently, thus he added the MSD ignition and a brand new Northern aluminum oversized radiator to keep the 392 Hemi cool. Mated with the Hemi is a TorqueFlite automatic transmission that handles the added power with ease and shifts seamlessly. To finish the performance aspects of the truck are true-dual Thrush exhaust system exiting in a custom center housing. Dripping in beautiful Copper Mango Tango paint, this all steel body show truck has been tastefully modified to give a very sleek custom look, paint and body are excellent and will stand out at any show or car event. The most noticeable custom cosmetic feature is that the side hood panels have been removed to display the 392 Hemi; the builders did manage to keep the original hood top that still opens in the clam-shell style. They saw extensive use during the Korean War and stateside. They are still widely recognized as one of the most capable, hardcore, go-anywhere off road vehicles ever produced! This beast looks awesome as she sits and gets a ton of attention looking naturally beautiful. MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to present the 1953 Dodge M37 you see pictured. This truck has been used as a small town search-and-rescue vehicle in and around the Onawa, Iowa area since being decommissioned from military use. It may look a little rough around the edges but it never fails to perform and will go just about anywhere you can imagine! When the H1 Hummers can’t make it and it’s time to call in the big boys – this is what you use! As you can tell – this truck has withstood the test of time. The truck retains its solid original body. Over the years, the olive drab paint has “earned” its natural patina. You can still see many of the original military markings through the patina. Patina is defined as “a film of oxide formed on the surface of a metal, especially the green oxidation of bronze or copper.” The canvas olive drab top is removable, newer and in great shape. This old military truck could almost pass as a neat rat rod! It should be mentioned that the floors and truck bed are solid and show no sign of rust through. The interior is just about as original as it gets. The original seat springs and cushions are intact and have just been reupholstered with olive drab canvas which closely matches the roof. The original dashboard with original gauges is still intact. It should be noted that the horn and righthand windshield wiper are currently inoperable. The split windshield does have cracks in it. Under the hood, the M37 is powered by a 230 cubic inch T-246 6 cylinder engine. This particular engine can get the truck to 55mph with a cruising speed of roughly 45mph – that’s saying a lot for a truck that weighs 5,917lbs! The truck starts right up with a 24V ignition and starting systems. It should be noted that this truck does have a VERY rare auxiliary gasoline heater! Mated to the motor is an NP88950 3-speed manual transmission and NP88845 transfer case with twin lever operations. The axles are full floating with 5.83 gears. The truck sits upon a set of massive 14-17.5 tires. The former owner put a lot of money into refreshing the M37 mechanically within the last year. Services done include: new batteries for the 24 volt system, rebuilding the cylinder head with new valves, rebuilt carburetor, new fuel pump, new gas tank, new “underwater capable” spark plugs/wires, new wheel cylinders and a new master cylinder. 1948 Dodge Panel VAN - Running and Driving Original Panel VAN - Flat HEAD 6 Exterior: Some previous body work has been done to one spot of passenger side door, appears to be some body for a dent. The same dent is present on the drivers side but has not had an attempted repair. The majority of visible rust is along the body of the doors and the section in front of the doors. Flat metal easy patch work. Floor boards are solid. It has been primed and we have removed some of the prime to try to locate any company signage or logos (none found) We did find that the original color was orange (like a Harley orange). Please examine pictures closely. There are cracks in side glass and windshield. Interior: Very basic as one would expect. It retains the original wood in bed section. It no longer has the original seats, and a late model adjustable sliding bench is installed. Please see pictures. Mechanical: The flat head six runs and sounds nice, will sit and idle smooth. Rebuilt Carburetor, The clutch is good through all gears. Volt, Temperature gauges work the speedometer is not working, gas gauge unknown but we can verify. The tires are decent it has 14inch on front and 15inch on back. They are a later style crager wheel. The passenger side rear is missing cap looks to had been cut of at one point. They all hold air. The wipers attempt to work, the are still the original vacuum style so you need to build pressure. The brakes are working currently but is has a master cylinder leak. We have removed it and cleaned it but the o' rings have dried up a bit and need a rebuild kit to make them new again. Fuel tank has been boiled and relined.
