Thanks to the engineering genius of Tom Hoover and the Ramchargers, 1964 saw the return of a champion to the NASCAR circuit thanks to Richard Petty and the 426 HEMI engine. By 1967, Chrysler was well underway with selling the Elephant powered street cars to an unprepared public. One of the most spectacular versions of a HEMI powered Mopar was their Plymouth and Dodge "B" bodies, still a true midsize vehicle they were smaller and lighter than their GM and Ford counterparts. The GTX and Coronet R/T convertibles were lethal weapons compared to the larger-for-1967 Pontiac GTO and others. The HEMI option was unprecedented both by the cost of a engine option, adding nearly 30% to the final cost, and the sheer power available to the public without a racing license. A person's pocketbook and constitution were the only two things that kept HEMI convertible production numbers low, not unlike the modern day HELLCAT Charger. This ultra-rare 1967 Dodge Coronet R/T Convertible was the platform twin to the Plymouth GTX convertible. She is all numbers matching, original sheet metal, original interior, unrestored engine bay and undercarriage inspected and confirmed by Dave Wise. They made a total of 4 Coronet R/T Converts in 1967, 2 4spds, 1 auto for the U.S. and 1 Auto for Canada. This is the only Auto made for the U.S. market. She has original documentation, complete Dave Wise Visual Inspection, as well as the Chrysler Historical records. Freshly serviced and road ready, the original "Hellcat" awaits. Call 847-838-3749 or Email [email protected] for more information! Exterior Description Despite snow still on the ground in late March when these photos were taken, she has been pampered as a collector piece for the past three decades, stored on climate controlled garages and driven only on clear, dry days. She sports most all original sheet metal and one high quality exterior repaint by Mopar aficionado, Vance Cummings in 2006. Showing 29,075 miles since new, she has seen very few miles and nothing but sunshine on very dry, very original body. Interior Description The interior is in very good, original and unrestored condition. High touch surfaces and bezels show some mild patina commensurate with age, but also testify to how well kept and maintained this car has been through its life. Everything works. The seats, console, convertible top, carpet, doors panels, dash trim, and instrument panel are all correct to the car. Engine Bay Description Can't miss the look of that 426 Hemi with the "chrome dome" air cleaner. According to the Dave Wise report, both engine and all of its components as well as the transmission at numbers matching and correct for the build date of the car. They are original factory correct built for this vehicle. The report also states that the VIN Tag, Trim Tag, and Certicard are factory original. He goes on to state that the primary and secondary body VIN's are also intact and correct. Engine assembly is original to the car. Engine bay is clean, but also original and unrestored. Overall, she show strong, chrome vale covers and air cleaner lid gleam, again a mild patina tells the story of a well cared for, highly original car. Chassis Description Undercarriage is not detailed, shows the wear typical with the limited road use the car has seen over the years. All the supplemental frame supports (Torque boxes) front and rear are intact. The exhaust is aftermarket, the rear end is a '67 date coded Dana 60, though the car was born with an 8 3/4" Sure grip. The floor pans, including the trunk pan are rock solid originals. The car, has however, been properly stored in a climate controlled setting for the last 15 years at least. The mechanicals have been gone through recently and she is in turn-key road ready condition.
