To start with, let me first say that I am listing this ’73 Challenger 340 for a well-known classic and muscle car dealership and in doing so, I will be acting as an agent for this dealership. The owner, who is a friend and someone that I have known for over 20 years, founded his dealership in 1996 and has been a veteran of the car business for over 30 years. All of his vehicles are chosen for the highest standards and quality. A careful and complete analysis is done on every one before they offered for sale. Let me also say that I understand that there is a lot of information in my ad. I also understand that this may be boring to the person who is just looking and not buying. However, for the person who is looking to buy and spend their hard earned money, I feel that there is never too much information. As to myself, I am not a dealer, just a (66) year old kid that loves muscle cars. For my work, I am retired from managing a Correctional Facility here in Maine and had worked for the Maine Department of Corrections for (40) years. I am also a respected member of my community. I mention this only because of the value of this car and so that prospective buyers will have some idea as to who they are dealing with. Also, please check out my eBay feedback as I have only one negative feedback which I believe I should not have received but you be the judge. Many of those transactions have been muscle cars which I have sold to individuals all over the country as well as Canada, England, France, Switzerland and Australia. INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS ARE WELCOME WITH A DOWN PAYMENT VIA PAYPAL AND THE BALANCE VIA WIRE TRANSFER ONLY. Just a little history on the Dodge Challenger: The Challenger project was first started in about 1965 as Dodge's answer to the pony car. Stylist Carl Cameron refined the car for some time, and, by 1968, they were building 1970 Challenger prototypes. Dodge was the last one to the pony car party, but it spent its time wisely, perfecting its entry, the Challenger. The Challenger debuted with an engine lineup that ranged from a docile slant six to the powerful 440 Six Barrel and the awesome 426 Hemi. Other pony cars could only dream of a line up like that. The Dodge Challenger was based on the Plymouth Barracuda platform, but its wheelbase was stretched by two inches to provide more interior room. The Challenger was offered in both hardtop and convertible versions. Performance versions wore the R/T (Road/Track) badge and either the base or R/T model could be ordered with the SE luxury package. But Dodge had one more trick up its sleeve. In order to race in the Sports Car Club of America's Trans American Sedan Championship, it built a street version of its race car which it called the Dodge Challenger T/A (Trans Am). By 1972, the convertible version and all the big-block engine options were gone. Maximum power was also downgraded to 240 horsepower to reflect the more accurate Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) net hp calculations. The 1972 models also received a new grille that extended beneath the front bumper. The 1973 models were no longer available with a six-cylinder engine. For 1974, the 340 cu in engine was replaced by a 360 cu in version, but the pony car market had deteriorated and production of Challengers ceased in mid 1974. Enough for the history lesson. Now on to this rare and beautiful 1973 (TX9) black Challenger 340ci 4-speed. Picture yourself behind the wheel of this 1973 Dodge Challenger Rally, restored from the ground up. This Mopar E-body has been with the same owner for the past 26 years. Factory color scheme TX-9 black with white strobe stripe and brilliant bright white interior. Powered by a numbers matching 340ci 4BBL, pistol grip, 4-speed and 8¾ rear with 3:55 sure grip. This cars exterior body and paint are in fantastic condition. Not to mention, once you’re behind the wheel you'll feel like you have been transported back to 1973 and your youth again. Definitely looks and performs like you want it to. To start with, let me first say that I am listing this ’71 Challenger Convertible for a well-known classic and muscle car dealership and in doing so, I will be acting as an agent for this dealership. The owner, who is a friend and someone that I have known for over 20 years, founded his dealership in 1996 and has been a veteran of the car business for over 30 years. Even though this is not my own personal car, I will always strive to maintain my reputation as an honest and reputable seller. Also, please check out my eBay feedback which is 100% with (1,134) transactions. INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS ARE WELCOME WITH A DOWN PAYMENT VIA PAYPAL AND THE BALANCE VIA WIRE TRANSFER ONLY. I ALSO HAVE INTERNATIONAL BUYER REFERENCES FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO CHECK. Just a little history on the Dodge Challenger: The Challenger project was first started in about 1965 as Dodge's answer to the pony car. For 1974, the 340 cu in engine was replaced by a 360 cu in version, but the pony car market had deteriorated and production of Challengers ceased in mid 1974. Enough for the history lesson. Now on to this rare and beautiful 1971 Triple Black Challenger Convertible. The 340-4BBL engine option was considered the small block high performance version in the Mopar line up in the early 70s. The car had plenty of performance and good fuel economy. This particular Challenger’s chrome bumpers, trim, bright work and stainless are considered extremely nice. The black convertible top still shows excellent. The front grille, rear tail light panel and bezels are super nice and still retain their factory original argent silver finish. The lower stone shield is also finished in argent silver. The Challenger’s interior is excellent with new seat covers, restored dash pad (from Just Dashes) and new carpet. She still retains the original door panels and factory am radio. It does come with custom embroidered Challenger floor mats. It has a very nice and clean walnut wood wheel with no cracks. The power top works fine and the Challenger does come with the original black convertible top boot. The underside of the Challenger has a light factory under coating with original floor pans, torque boxes and trunk pan showing no signs of any rust or repair. Playing the muscle car sound is an OEM exhaust system with dual mufflers and dual resonators. Mechanically, the shocks, suspension and front end components are all in excellent condition. The only sheet metal that's been replaced, is on the passenger’s side where a full NOS quarter panel was professionally installed prior to the restoration. The car is in fantastic condition and the motor runs excellent with no smoke or issues. This particular Challenger is simply stunning and starts, runs and drives beautifully. The car is overall considered to be an excellent daily driver only needing minor detailing and clean up under the hood. Truly, a great investment and sure to increase in value over the next several years. I have no complaints about clones and reproductions as I have owned some nice ones myself. However, the wise buyer will always look to those rare muscle cars that have the right factory options and color scheme. What does all of this all add up to? I say Mopar Heaven for the new owner. Rarity: According to Galen Govier’s “Chrysler Corporation Production Option Code Book”, there were only: 41 ‘71 Dodge Challenger hardtops and convertibles produced with the 3-speed manual transmission. I have also read that there were: 1,857 Dodge Challenger convertibles produced in 1971. 29,883 Dodge Challenger total production in 1971. If you extrapolate those production figures you come up with; 6.2% of all 1971 Dodge Challengers were convertibles. 6.2% of 41 ‘71 Challenger hardtops and convertibles with the 3-speed manual transmission would be: 2.54 vehicles. Add in the fact that this is a real TX9 Challenger convertible and I think it is quite safe to say that: This particular 1971 triple black Dodge Challenger 3-speed convertible is a true: “one of one” collector car. Please remember, this is based on my extrapolation only and shoud not be considered as gospel.
