The 1972 Datsun 240Z was bought out of New Mexico. It is a running and driving car but has been off the road for a while. I bought it as a project but my situation has changed and I've decided to sell it. I was told the engine has about 5k miles on an overhaul but I have no proof. It has a Clifford intake manifold and an Edelbrock 1406 carb. The carb needs overhauled but will start and run fair. It comes with the stock intake/carbs/air cleaner as shown in the hatch area pics. It has a new clutch slave cylinder that needs bled to work properly. The pictures show the worst areas on the body and the whole cut in the passenger side floor was there when I bought it. I'm guessing there was rust there. The remaining floor seems solid. There is bondo on the rear driver side quarter and a crack that can be seen in the pics. The passenger side seems solid but there is cracking above the body line on that side. It looks like there is filler in that area and over the door area on the roof on that side. The inner hatch and spare tire area are solid. The firewall is solid and below the battery tray area. The missing items are the center console, the two front turn signal assemblies, the blower motor, the wiper motor and linkage, carpet, and door panels. The seats are usable and the door panels are there but trashed. If you want pics of anything specific, I'll get them for you. In the mid 70s, there was truly no better all-around sports car for the money than the 240-280Z. These cars were reliable, fast, fun, and comfortable. Ours is an excellent example of how the car was designed to look and drive. Although the car has 146K miles, the engine has been completely rebuilt! In fact nearly everything on the car has been replaced or refurbished. Best of all, the car comes with every receipt from the day it was new!!!! Even the original window sticker with the selling price of $7700 is included with the car (see the photo of the documentation file).Again, the condition of the car is excellent. Air is ice cold. Transmission shift smoothly. Accelerates well. No exhaust leaks (exhaust and headers are new). Tires are excellent. Interior has all been replaced and the dash, which is original, doesn't have a crack in it! All gauges, windows, and lights work well. The paint is excellent; however, there are a couple minor dents on the right side of the car where a "now disowned son" dropped a bike against the quarter panel. The dents are very small and by no means pronounced, but once you see them they're easy to spot.This is an impressive collector's car that's a blast to drive; but, what makes it really valuable is the unprecedented documentation. I am selling my Datsun 240z. This is a very nice car. Car is originally from the state of Washington. The first owner had it until 1977. Second owner sold it to me in 2013. I have a copy of the title from the owner from 1977. The car drives great and is very reliable. BODY: All original, all the body panels, floors and frame have not been replaced. No patch panels. The car was originally silver and was repainted 2010 Audi Volcano Red. The paint is about 2 years old and still looks in very good condition. Only a couple of minor chips. No rust had to be repaired on the car just a few bumps and small dents. The frame rails are solid, no rust as well as the floors. Body is extremely straight. ENGINE: 2.4 engine is orginal. It had approxemtly 115k and at that time was rebuilt. I tore down the engine. The block was still excellent condition and only needed minor honing. All the pistons and rods were cleaned and rings replaced, I had the crank balance checked and it was fine. The head was rebuilt, hardened seats for unleaded gas and the orginal cam reinstalled. The water pump, oil sending unit and gaskets all replaced. I added ceramic coated headers and it has a 2 1/4 exhaust. Engine now has approx 5k miles. I just tuned the car up with new, points, condensor, plugs and adjusted the valves and timing. TRANSMISSION: replaced the clutch, the tranny was torn apart and seals were replaced but everything else was still in good shape. FUEL: It had the Weber downdrafts decided to replace with a set of su carbs from a 1972, which run great on the car. I used the z therapy kit to rebuild them. I just balanced out the carbs and readjusted the the idle for the summer driving season. IGNITION: stock points and coil. INTERIOR: black seats were recovered with a softer synthetic leather. New carpeting kit. Dash has no cracks. All the controls work. All gauges are accurate, except the clock which does not work. The door panels were recovered in simliar material as the seats to match. Chrome and emblems: The bumpers are nice but not great. I removed all of the dried out weatherstrips and covered the holes. I replaced the emblems from motorsport z. The windshield gasket is new as well as doors and hatch. ELECTRONICS: The radio is stock and works great. The power antenna is original and works great. Headlights, blinkers and wipers all work as they should. The HVAC controls all work and the blower motor operates properly. TIRES, WHEELS and BRAKES: They are what came on the car when I bought it and all have good tread. They are 14" 195/70/14. Brakes are all stock and still have plenty of pad. The car origially was an air conditioning car but the compressor and condensor are gone but the underdash parts are still there. Here is a video of the car running and walk around. Know as the “Japanese Corvette” the 280zx Turbo was an engineering pinnacle, boasting powerful performance, wrapped in a sexy, smooth body design and an ultra comfortable interior, with almost no extra cost options, as they came loaded with features. Over the years the Z went from a small no frills little sports car, to a highly polished and powerful GT tourer. The turbocharged 280ZX used a single Garrett AiResearch TB03 with an internal wastegate, and no intercooler. Nissan’s design philosophy at the time led to boost being limited to 6.8 psi (0.47 bar), despite the lowered compression of the turbo engine (7.4:1 with dished, cast aluminum pistons). Additional changes over the naturally aspirated engine included a higher volume oil pump, an oil cooler on automatic models, and Nissan’s Electronic Concentrated Control System (ECCS). Series II and Series I. At the time of its release into the US market, the 280ZX turbo was the fastest Japanese import on the American market. Which brings us to our Z. The exterior is very nice. The body, refinished in the original Fox Silver base/clear paint, and reproduction “turbo” graphics have been applied in their original locations. The body is free from dings and dents, the doors, hatch and hood all fit correctly. All of the glass is clear and crack free. The body on this car looks fantastic and doesn’t show its age. Moving under the Z, the area where most Z cars suffer, you will find a VERY dry and clean bottom. The rails have not been crushed from lifting it on racks over the years, which is very common to see and weakens the structure of the Z. 1980 280ZX GL purchased from original owner in '05. Beautiful inside and out. The radio did not work when I bought it, so I replaced with a piece of aluminum plate and fitted a Sony stereo and the power antenna switch into the original slot. Also, I had to charge the A/C when I got it and over the past years, it has leaked down. I haven't recharged it since I'm very 'protective' of what R12 I have left. You can convert it if you would like. I have put approximately 25K on it since I purchased it, and would not hesitate to drive it back in Oregon if need be. He put the tires on it for me since he knew I would be driving it 3000 miles back home and while not bad, they might be a concern (if driving to Oregon). The tread is still decent, but they are almost 10 years old. The ONLY issues I am aware of would be two rust spots (see pic) at the bottom edge of the windshield. As you can see, I removed the paint and coated with Rustoleum to prevent farther damage. Unless you stand right over the car, you won't see the spots. There are the 'normal' rock pecks and such from traveling. Only one at the left headlight assembly that I consider mentioning (see pic). The left rear interior corner material has pulled (see pic). Very normal for these cars. While not perfect, I would have to give this an 8 or 9 out of 10 in overall condition. It never fails to crank and NEVER fails to turn heads! I am not a dealer. I am a collector and need space. I hate to let it go, but must. The car is for sale locally, so sale might end unannounced. I DO NOT SELL INTERNATIONALLY. I WILL NOT SHIP this auto.
