This spectacular original 1928 Chrysler Imperial L80 Traveler Dual Cowl Phaeton with body by LeBaron is one of two in existence and a CCCA full classic. It has been shown at the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours in the Prewar Preservation Class and completed the Pebble Tour, as well as the 2015 Amelia Island Concours. This Chrysler was featured in the Jay Leno CNBC Pebble Beach 2014 Special and a clip can be seen below. The 309 cubic inch Red Head engine produces 112 horsepower, making this the most powerful American automobile sold in the United States in 1928.This car, chassis serial #EP274E, engine #L3681 was purchased new at Kirby Motors in Kingston, Pennsylvania in 1928 by Eleanor Mulligan, of nearby Wilkes Barre. Her father founded the Second National Bank of Wilkes Barre where she worked as an officer in the bank, alongside her brother James who was president. Her brother James’ son, William, was born in 1930. William recalls that at age 5, in 1935, his Aunt Eleanor put him on her lap and let him steer the car during the summer when the car was left at their camp in the mountains in nearby Glen Summit, Pennsylvania. A few years later his aunt realized that William had taken a liking to it, and Eleanor began letting him drive the car around the camp’s dirt roads starting in 1940 when he was ten years old. Since the car now stayed at the camp year round, and his Aunt Eleanor never drove it again, she gave it to her young nephew William. A few years later, he spent most of the summer putting a new clutch in the car himself, and it was at this time that he and his childhood friends named this car “The Green Buggy” (see photo). His aunt gave him the car with the stipulation that it remain at the summer camp. In 1949, Eleanor Mulligan died and the Chrysler was officially left to William in her will. In the late 1940’s William Mulligan took the car to college in Easton, Pennsylvania where he drove it daily, with the aid of the original side curtains which are still with the car. The car was very dependable and he put 35,000 miles on it during this time. In 1949, he had new upholstery installed but the body, etc. were left untouched and the rest of the car remained entirely original. He drove the car until 1955 and then parked the car in his parents’ garage in Kingston, Pennsylvania where it remained in dry storage for the next 40 years. During this time, Mr. Mulligan was employed as an executive at Ingersoll Rand Corp., living in many different countries and unable to drive the Chrysler. He finally moved it to his new farm in New Hope, Pennsylvania in 1995.After removing the car from storage, he decided that he wanted to drive the car but wanted to keep it in original condition and not restore it. He had over $20,000 worth of mechanical work done by a professional restoration shop in Pennsylvania to get the car in excellent driving condition. I have all the bills from 1999 thru 2008 and some of the work includes a complete engine rebuild for about $10,000, installed new clutch, disassembled and reassembled transmission, rebuilt generator, starter, distributor, rebuilt radiator, rebuilt vacuum tank, rebuilt oil filter assembly, rebuilt horns, rebuilt carburetor, added electric fuel pump, rebuilt master cylinders, rebuilt water pump, and all brake parts including wheel cylinders were rebuilt. As a result of all of this work, the car is in perfect mechanical condition and can be reliably driven anywhere. Luckily the car was kept in original condition except the hood and wire wheels were repainted when the mechanical work was done. I have not had a paint expert look at the paint on the hood or wheels. I have been told that the newer paint could be easily “weathered” so that it would match the rest of the paint on the car a bit better, although the color is a perfect match. Mr. Mulligan drove the car to one small local antique car show near his home, but other than he never drove it to any other car shows or concours. William Mulligan always considered the Chrysler just a used car to be driven and really had no interest in the antique car hobby. I met Mr. Mulligan in July, 2012 when he sold me the car, which had 73,000 miles on it since new. Still nearly entirely original, the car even retains its two sidemount spare tires and sidemount mirrors from the 1930’s. The original aluminum LeBaron body and wood are extremely solid. Mr. Mulligan gave me the original Pennsylvania 1928 Chrysler registration when it was still registered to his aunt Eleanor Mulligan, after she had died and he is listed as the trustee of the estate. He had to turn in the original Pennsylvania title to the state which is shown in the photos but I have a copy of it. Also included is one original and one reproduction 1928 Chrysler Imperial instruction manual, two different original 1928 Chrysler Imperial sales brochures and a reproduction parts book. After obtaining the car in 2012, I drove it to several local antique car shows and did some other touring. It is very dependable and a fabulous road car with great power and presence. It draws a crowd wherever it is shown. It can be driven at highway speeds. In July 2014 the car was granted a FIVA Identity Card and windshield sticker after the application was accepted and an examination in person. In 2014, I decided to attend some concours with this rare car and was pleasantly surprised when it was accepted at every concours that I applied to. In addition, I received many other concours invitations which I did not attend. With the car, I attended the June 2014 Hershey Excellence, August 2014 Pebble Beach Concours (Prewar Preservation Class), August 2014 Pebble Beach Tour (before the show), September 2014 Radnor Hunt Concours, and March 2015 Amelia Island Concours. It was also accepted at the September 2014 St. Michaels Concours but I was unable to attend. I believe that this car would be accepted at virtually any concours or invitational car show in the world because of its rarity and desirability. Please see the four videos below which include the car driving, the Jay Leno pebble interview and the car entering Amelia Island. The 1928 Chrysler Imperial L80, the third year for the Imperial, was unlike any previous model and the wheelbase of 136 inches was large enough for at least nine different custom bodies by Locke, Dietrich, and LeBaron. The 309 cubic inch Red Head engine with 6.1:1 compression ratio produced 112 horsepower, making this the most powerful American automobile sold in the United States in 1928. Top speed was nearly 100 mph and these cars nearly won LeMans that year. The 1928 Imperial had 35 pounds per horsepower, compared to 56 pounds for Cadillac and when coupled with Lockheed hydraulic brakes, its performance was astounding. Production for all 1928 Imperials was only about 2,000 cars while similar priced Cadillacs and Packards each sold nearly ten times as many. There were only a total of 161 custom bodied Imperials sold in 1928 (this is the total of all LeBaron, Locke, and Dietrich bodies produced). Because of the low production figures, very few 1928 Imperials have survived at all and these outstanding vehicles really have not received the recognition that they deserve. In a magazine article, Chrysler Club President Sherwood Kahlenberg stated, “The 1928 LeBaron Traveler Dual Cowl Phaeton is, in the author’s estimation, the finest looking phaeton of the 1920’s. The high hood line and rakish windshield coupled with a low belt line topped by polished aluminum, a short body and long chassis made the car the success that it was.” The Traveler sold new for $4185. Production figures for the Traveler vary between 21 and 31. Out of this total, it is believed that there are now only two of these cars in existence. The other car is now being restored so this is the only known original preservation car of its type left in the world. I recently received the 2015 Classic Car Club of America Roster Book and, although it obviously does not list every vehicle in existence, there are a total of just two 1928 Imperials listed of all types (mine is one of them), 1929 Imperials, (2), 1930 Imperials, (1), 1931 Imperials, (14), 1932 Imperials, (21), and 1933 Imperials, (17). As you can see, the 6 cylinder Imperials (1928, 1929 and 1930) are extremely rare compared to the 8 cylinder Imperials (1931, 1932, 1933). Price is $94,500. The car is located in Syracuse, New York. I will be happy to answer any questions or furnish more information. Please call Walter Miller at (315) 432-8269.

You are viewing a 1968 Imperial Crown Coupe, equipped with a 440 cubic in. V8 engine, automatic transmission, black leather interior and power everything. The Crown Coupe -- an extremely rare car, as only 2,656 were made -- was Chrysler Corporation's flagship luxury coupe in 1968 and was a worthy competitor of the Cadillac Eldorado and the Lincoln Mark Series for the upper echelon of the American car market. This particular example is presented with a glassy gold finish and a black vinyl top, a very elegant combination that exudes the class and style that buyers with a certain discriminating taste were looking for in '68. And it still hits the mark. On a long drive this summer from my home in Clinton, NY through Utica and north toward Watertown, I witnessed the effect firsthand. The car garnered many waves and smiles, and I think most people were pleasantly surprised by a car that they couldn't readily identify. With such incredibly low production numbers, the chances of seeing one in its natural habitat are very slim. I think this gives everyone a real thrill. The Crown Coupe is a real pleasure to drive, it fires up eagerly and is silky smooth rolling down the highway. The legendary 440 cubic inch engine, one of the great motors of all time and probably second only to the "hemi"s in the Chrysler arsenal, is the perfect match to this big touring coupe. It cruises along effortlessly and provides a sensation of limitless torque that is an absolute joy to experience. Sitting in the leather bucket driver's seat looking over the beautiful dash and that long hood, its easy to be transported back to the late '60's when style and masculinity were at a pinnacle, when men dressed well, worked hard and made America the greatest country in the world. And they drove cars that are still seen as the benchmark of style and craftsmanship even today. I have owned and collected classic cars for the last 26 years, beginning with the 1969 Dodge Charger I bought when I was sixteen, and which I still own today. I still own my 2nd car as well, a 1983 Pontiac Trans Am, which I drove from my senior year in high school through to my second year of graduate school in the department of English at the University of Central Florida in Winter Park, FL. So my passion for classic cars -- and especially Mopars -- has been a lifelong pursuit and is about the most fun I can imagine having. I am an Oxford-educated motorhead that's been car crazy since bell bottoms were in style the first time around. And because I love to find, own, drive and collect all kinds of classic cars, there comes a point when I have to sell a few of them to keep my collection manageable, or else they all don't get exercised like they should. This is one of those times. My collection has expanded to about 20 cars, when really, if I am totally honest with myself, I should get it down to about twelve so that I have the time to drive and enjoy them all. I am a firm believer that cars should and need to be driven. And when I can't drive them all enough, I go through the painful process of letting a few of them go on to new owners that will hopefully get out there and drive them more than I have time to. Before its all said and done, there will be about seven up and available. This Imperial has been a real pleasure to own and while it isn't perfect, it is a wonderful example of maybe the lowest production luxury coupe every produced by the big three automakers. It is ready to be driven and enjoyed, and any improvements can be made while still being able to take it out for a Sunday drive. The car is equipped with A/C, which isn't working at the moment. That's one of those items you could address as you see fit. Here in New York, it just isn't that big of a deal. I have the original Imperial air cleaner and many other original parts. I was also able to locate two build sheets; I removed one and left the other in the car where it was placed when it was built more than 40 years ago. I've included videos of both build sheet locations, plus a walk-around of the car and many other photos at the links below. Otherwise, please let me know if you have any questions and of course you are more than welcome to come and view the car in person. I think you'll be pleased you did. As rare as this car is, determining an asking price wasn't easy, so I just went with the book price and I think its pretty fair when you consider the similar, much higher production luxury coupes out there. And if you have a cool classic car that you think I might be interested in, let me know, maybe we can work something out! Rare 1964 Chrysler Imperial Crown 61k original miles, 413 V8. Options include power seats, power windows. am/fm radio with rear speaker, pushbutton automatic transmission, factory rustproofing and passenger side mirror. As the link below explains, the value of the '64 Imperials is steadily increasing. The mid 60's Imperial models are particularly desirable; the engines have higher compression and increased horsepower, lots of chrome accents and bumpers that follow the trim and contours of the body; unlike the more sedate, less stylish look of the later 60's Imperial models. http://www.imperialclub.com/Articles/64Features/index.htmMechanical: The Imperial has always been regularly maintained, everything feels just as it should; from the huge doors that close easily, the precise pushbutton shifter transmission controller, the easy acceleration to the firm brake pedal. She's powerful, smooth and quiet, just a pleasure on the highway cruising along at 75. If you've had a 60's full size Mopar you know how they can begin feeling "loose" and rattle-y if not properly maintained. This is true particularly for the front end, which was entirely rebuilt about ten years ago, it is nice and tight, no wandering. Over the last few years she got a new radiator, new brakes, new alternator, new fuel pump, new 4 barrel Edelbrock carburetor, new starter, new engine mounts, and new valve covers and gaskets. The entire engine was pulled when the car was painted to finish the engine compartment. When that was done all the external gaskets were replaced. I bought the Chrysler from the son of the original owner. I also have the velvet finish owner's manual and other paperwork that came with the car when purchased. My mechanic told me he believes it's the original mileage considering the overall mechanical and cosmetic condition. I've had a few of these Imperials, this is the first one that had the pushbutton transmission operate like it should, it's a pleasure. All the body panels line up perfectly and the doors, hood and trunk open and close easily.Cosmetic: The Imperial was painted about 5 years ago, it's got a nice deep shine, no bodywork necessary anywhere. Interior was entirely redone by an upholstery shop that specializes in classics; all original patterns and materials were used. Everything was done; leather, vinyl, carpet, armrests, door panels, visors, headliner, etc. The leather seats look amazing, they're supple and comfortable. The door panels and rear panels are gorgeous, complete with the pop up door armrests for storage. The chrome bumpers and brightwork are in great shape, no dents, scratches, pitting or fading, they shine brilliantly. The factory rustproofing they gave these cars was very effective, the body is solid throughout as you can see from the pix of the trunk floor. When you look at, get into and drive this car it's clear that's she's always been treated with love and has spent her life as a "Garage Queen". She's roadworthy, all directional/brake/turn signal/headlights work. Engine always starts easily, even after sitting for a month or two. Cruises nicely on the highway, holds the road perfectly, 413 V8 moves this big girl easily up the highway with LOTS of power. The Chrysler tracks straight as an arrow and brakes evenly, idles perfectly and the suspension is luxurious. She is almost spotless underneath; floors and trunk completely solid, body never patched. No leaks, garage floor always dry when I take her out. Overall, it drives like an American classic luxury car should. I'm also considering selling my 62 Cadillac Convertible, new paint, top and interior. I reserve the right to end the auction early as the Imperial is for sale locally and I'm open to reasonable buy it now offers as well. I can assist with shipping in the USA or internationally if necessary, cost of shipping to paid by buyer. If you need it I can recommend a door to door auto shipper I've used many times in the past; they're professional, reliable and have great rates. Classic Rare Mopar which will only appreciate in value! Any questions feel free to call or email. 914-224-3230

I have a 1965 Chrysler imperial convertible. The car is in okay shape. The car has been stored indoors for about 20 years now but was a show car prior to going into storage. It has minimal rust and lots of extra parts. Was a show car for years but has been neglected and needs attention in many areas now. It does start and run but needs a tune up. The interior is in decent shape and the convertible top moves up and down and is repairable as well. The worst parts of the car are the hood and rear bumper but I have replacements for both of those. This car is one of about 650 built and there are not many left. it is a true classic and really luxurious. Anyone with a bit of bondo skills and mechanical know how could make this car beautiful again and use it like it should be. I know that they sell in the 20 to 30 thousand dollar range when fixed up but I don't have the time to restore it right now. Please send a message or call before bidding so I can tell you more about the car. My number is 631 793-1680 Thanks, Matt
