Well, you may recall that an all-new lineup of GM pickups debuted in 1987 featuring a more rounded look, and those became the C/K series. However, the older version remained in production, so GM simply renamed them the R/V series (denoting 2- and 4-wheel-drive models, respectively). As a result, this handsome 1987 R10 pickup is a rather rare machine, particularly in 4x2 short bed form. In 1987, colors like brown and tan and light blue were popular, so finding a gorgeous combination like white over burgundy is a great bonus. And that's 100% original sheetmetal, all of which has been extremely well preserved throughout the truck's life. It might have been repainted at some point, simply because the paint is almost too nice to be original, offering a great shine and few signs of wear. The R10 pickups were handsome, chiseled machines and today are gaining a lot of popularity as people discover that they can get a lot of style and utility for not a lot of money. This one has been dressed up with things like tonneau cover, a chrome bumper, and a drop-in bedliner, all of which add practicality as well as value. There's minimal trim and I particularly like the body-colored grille which gives it a stock look that gets a little more attention once you notice it. It's hard not to love this truck. Another smart choice was the black and burgundy interior. A nice step up from the usual stuff, the upholstery would look more at home in a Buick than a pickup, and it's just as comfortable. The seat cover shows almost no wear, and the matching black carpets are still dark and undamaged by the sun's rays. This one also comes with factory A/C, which is always a welcome upgrade on a working-class hauler. The original AM/FM stereo radio remains in the dash and at the helm is a 4-spoke steering wheel that was introduced with the new C/K series trucks and used across the line. The door panels got the same two-tone treatment and a burgundy dash pad works with the white painted lower dash to accentuate the truck's elegant color combination. It also offers tinted glass to work in conjunction with the A/C to keep everything comfortable inside. Chevy's bulletproof 5.7-liter V8 delivers impressive performance for a pickup, but this vehicle was never about smoking tires. It's smooth, comfortable, and reliable, and combined with a 4-speed automatic it cruises effortlessly at highway speeds no matter what the load. The engine bay itself is amazingly clean, owing to a comfortable life in the sunny, dry southern US, and there are signs of excellent maintenance throughout. Heck, it still has the plastic intake snorkel, which is often the first piece to dry out, crack, and fall off. The suspension is 100% stock, so you don't have to worry about a bone-jarring ride from lowering springs, and carrying capacity is unaffected. A Flowmaster 1-into-2 exhaust system gives it an aggressive sound and twin pipes out back, which everyone seems to dig. It is also fitted with timeless Rally style wheels wearing fat 255/70/15 radials that give it a beefy look.
