If you want practicality in a cool hot rod package, this 1951 Chevrolet panel truck delivers in a big way, from its L98 fuel-injected V8 to the overdrive transmission to the long list of creature comforts. This is what you've been looking for. Dressed like the hauler from a vintage rod shop, this panel delivery has exactly the right look. The stock bodywork doesn't really need any help, but a quick smoothing of the nose and extraneous trim, frenched headlights, and shaved bumpers give it a compact, muscular look. The bright red paint is all about eyeball appeal, which is exactly what you would have wanted if you were promoting a business with your truck. There are cool graphics on the side panels that highlight Money's Garage and it certainly looks like a '50s setup that would have been hard at work in the early days of hot rodding. The paint is in good condition, nice enough to attract attention but not so perfect that you're afraid to use this one as intended. The custom details look great and you'll note that the rear fenders were molded into the bodywork so it looks smooth. Nice chrome grillwork, original door handles, and simple LED taillights give the truck a classic look that really stands out. The interior really is spectacular, with custom bucket seats upholstered in tan vinyl that looks bright and clean without being over-done. Sure, there are a few light signs of use, because this truck actually works like it should, but overall it's in very good shape. There's a custom center console and side benches in the rear compartment, so it remains very usable and practical. All the usual upgrades are here, including a tilt steering column, cold A/C, and even cruise control, as if the builder knew you'd want to take this one to all the big rod runs and swap meets. Clean VDO gauges in custom billet inserts look right at home in the factory dashboard, with the secondary controls for the A/C and AM/FM/CD stereo system integrated in a custom panel underneath. Custom door panels, full carpeting throughout, and simple side panels with Bowtie emblems add to the finished look. Of course, a full set of speakers fills the well-insulated interior with sound and the liberal use of sound-deadening materials keeps it quiet on the roll. Under the hood you'll find a nicely detailed Chevy L98 350 cubic inch V8. Renowned for torque and durability, it's the ideal powerplant for a hauler like this. The engine bay is nicely detailed, with a smooth firewall, color-matched intake manifold, and a few chrome dress-up items that add some sparkle. The plumbing and electrical were neatly installed to make it look clean and there's a big radiator up front. It's backed by a 700R4 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission and a 10-bolt rear end, so it's comfortable on the highway and the stainless exhaust system has a nice mellow sound without getting annoying when you're cruising. The chassis was painted and detailed when it was first finished, but there's obviously some driving on it now so it's not perfect anymore, but you won't get any complaints when you show up at events. The ride height is exactly right and it sits on new Wheel Vintiques steelies with 215/60/15 front and 255/60/15 rear BFGoodrich T/A radials. We love this truck simply because it gets everything right: functional, fun, and very good looking. You'll be excited to take it to your first show and become the center of attention. This black panel truck has a nice older restoration and a recent mechanical freshening to make it fun and reliable, and perhaps even a little bit practical, too! Basic black suits the substantial panel truck and the smooth body sides are just begging for your business's logo or even a fun made-up logo for your home shop. It's all about attracting attention, and this truck does it quite well. Repainted a few years ago, it spent a lot of time in a museum so it still looks great with only minor signs of use, mostly up front in the usual spots. After all, who can blame the guy for wanting to drive it? A single red pinstripe was added around the perimeter just to break up all the black, and it's exactly the right complement to the red paint on the hubcaps; not too much but enough to make you notice. The twin cargo doors out back almost look chopped (they're not) and the single commercial-grade taillight is joined by a set of modern fixtures tucked in just above the rear bumper, which is a good idea from a safety standpoint. The chrome grill sparkles against the black finish, giving it a bit of an upscale look, and heavy-duty bumpers complete the industrial-strength look that makes these trucks such enduring favorites. This is a very affordable panel van, but the upgrades inside make it seem far more polished than the commercial-spec original features. Late-model power buckets are the most notable upgrade, and they actually work rather well with the original instrument panel. Obviously the button-tufted door panels were custom made to work with the new seats and while it might be a little dated, it's a very easy and inexpensive thing to change if it's not your thing. The factory gauges and dashboard are joined by an extra dial tucked under the dash. The rest, including the three-on-the-tree shifter, big steering wheel, and chrome grille for the [optional] radio speaker, is all in good order and quite OEM-looking. Overhead there's a black headliner and for entertainment, someone cleverly installed an AM/FM/CD/iPod stereo. The cargo bay is a combination of original floor planks and rustic-looking side panels, along with more button-tufted dress-up, but again, if that's not quite your thing, reproduction panels are not expensive at all. The 235 cubic inch inline-six has been recently freshened and runs superbly. It starts easily with 12 volts running through the starter and the familiar corporate blue paint brightens up the otherwise all black engine bay. A correct oil bath air filter, new hoses and wires, and other pieces make it look correct without harming its bulletproof reputation. Likewise, the transmission and rear end were treated to new bearings and seals, and the 3-speed manual shifts easily and it's actually a lot of fun to run the truck through the gears and listen to the familiar grumble of the six. Of course, a new exhaust system and gas tank are welcome upgrades, but otherwise it's quite stock underneath, right down to the 6.00-16 Columbia Deluxe blackwall tires. Trim rings and hubcaps are just the right dress-up for the panel truck, adding a little flair without getting excessive about it. A neat truck with a very affordable price tag means you can start having fun and still have some room to make it your own.
