Up for sale is a beautiful 1971 Chevrolet Monte Carlo in near mint condition. It is an original 350 Turbo-Fire 4 barrel with a 350 Turbo-Hydramatic transmission. History/Overview: I purchased this car in December of 2001 from a private owner in Marion, Indiana. This was my second Monte Carlo, and nearly a clone of my first car as a teenager. The car has 104000 original miles and is part restoration and part survivor. The previous owner had purchased the car in 1997 with 87000 miles on it, had it Zeibarted, and drove it as a summer daily driver until 2000. He then began the restoration, had it painted and replaced most of the interior. The car has one repaint with base/clear, and required no body work, the car is rust free. I purchased the car with 101000 miles, and began completing a close-to factory correct restoration, which was completed in 2003. This car comes with a CarCapsule storage system and a padded cover. Although not visible, this car has had many performance upgrades, and is absolutely a beautiful and prime example of a first generation Monte Carlo. This car runs, rides, and drives like a dream, turns heads and gets compliments everywhere. Specifications/Options: ~Original color-Burnt Orange ~Black interior, bench seat ~350 4bbl. ~350 TH Transmission ~12 bolt rear, w/3.42 posi ~Gauge package ~Air Conditioning ~Rear defogger Body/Chrome: ~Most of the chrome on this car is original. The rear bumper was rust free, but slightly faded, so was- rechromed. The center caps and trim rings on the wheels were also replaced. Otherwise, all of the rest is original. There is one small flaw in the front grille, which you can see in the pictures ~The tires have around 1500 miles on them. ~Original vinyl top, which was pulled back around the back window and sail panels before restoration to check for rust, none found. ~The car still had the original trunk mat and spare when I purchased it, I removed the mat, cleaned and painted the inside of the trunk, again, no rust. ~Glass is all original and near perfect. The exception being the driver’s window which has some surface scratches on the outside. ~Except for the trunk seal, all the window and door rubber is original and is due for replacement. Interior: ~Most of the interior was restored by the previous owner, although not pictured, the headliner is in mint condition. ~I added the correct factory tach and gauge package, and had the clock correctly refurbished (yes it works!) ~The correct AM radio was added for originality and does not function. The stereo is a Sony Xplode CD/Radio with 52w per channel. The front speakers under the dash pad are Boston Acoustic 2-ways, the rear speakers are Kenwood 120w 6x9's. Behind the rear seat, there are 2 MTX 12" Blue Thunder subwoofers powered by a Kenwood 8020 amplifier. ~Original stereo speaker grilles included. Suspension/brakes: ~All of suspension was replaced by the previous owner. ~The brake pads/rotors were replaced about 2000 miles ago. ~New rear wheel cylinders about 1000 miles ago. Engine: ~Although there was no mechanical reason to pull the motor, I wanted more power (originally rated 270hp) and wanted to detail the engine compartment. The engine was completely rebuilt with all new premium parts, including hypereutectic pistons. The block was machined .030. The cam is a Comp Cams XE262H-10. ~The carburetor is the original Rochester Quadrajet 4bbl. However, the carb was modified by a circle track racing shop to enhance performance while retaining stock appearance. ~I have all the machine shop and carb paperwork and specifications, including detailed instructions on future carb adjustments. ~I would estimate the horsepower to be around 330 (could be higher), although it’s never been dynoed. The engine/carb configuration was designed for a strong mid-range power curve, and pulls hard from 2500-5000rpm. ~Although appearing stock, the ignition system was upgraded to a Pertronix hei system and 40000 watt coil. ~The AC system worked cold when I purchased the car 2001, but has not been used since then, the clutch and compressor activate normally and operate quietly, but the system needs charged. ~Exhaust was replaced by the previous owner and has a very nice sound. ~Battery is brand new. 800 amp, with an original look top. Has a shut off for storage. ~The digital camera I took the pictures with makes engine paint look reddish, but it is indeed Chevy orange. Drivetrain: ~I had the original transmission pulled and had all the seals replaced. At the same time I upgraded the torque converter to a TCI Streetfighter. I don’t remember the exact stall, but it was just slightly over stock. ~I replaced the original 2.73 open carrier with an Eaton Posi and 3.42 Strange gears. Tachs about 2500 rmp at 60mph. Also made correct speedometer gear swap for that range. Included with sale: ~Padded car cover (not pictured.) ~Car Capsule storage system. ~Lots of receipts. ~Various original manuals and brochures ~Matching floor mats ~Additional pictures available I can’t say enough on the beauty, class, comfort, and performance of this car. There are only about 2500 miles on the total restoration, and the car has been driven only about 100 miles a year since around 2008. It has been either stored in my shop with the padded cover, or in my pole barn in the CarCapsule. The car has not seen water in probably 6 years, and that was just to rinse off dust from long term storage. Always stored indoors. Why would I sell such a gem? I got into performance boats a few years ago, and that sort of changed my direction on big-boy toys, but I’ll always love classic cars. I don’t have to sell, but the car is much too fine to be sitting in the bubble for the rest of its existence! This car is located just South of Defiance, Ohio, and can be viewed with appointment. Regional delivery may be possible if the purchase price is right. Test drive may be available if the roads are salt free and it’s not snowing or raining. (Very nasty weather here already in November!) Please contact me with any questions, and I thank you for looking!!!!!! PLEASE NOTE I HAVE NO TIMELINE TO SELL THIS CAR, SO I WILL BE LISTING/RE-LISTING UNTIL AN OFFER IS SATISFACTORY, THANK YOU.
