There's a new trim level, the L, and OnStar now includes a 4G LTE connection with an in-car WiFi hotspot. Introduction The Chevrolet Equinox received its last redesign back in 2010, which is a pretty long time in automotive terms. The 2015 Equinox still stands out for its comfort-oriented ride and optional V6 engine. But is that enough to keep it out in front of its newer competitors? If you're shopping for a crossover that's great on road trips and highway journeys, the Equinox is better than most at dealing with America's underfunded road infrastructure, and it's one of the quieter vehicles we've tested at highway speeds. The aforementioned V6 engine is a peach too, with plenty of power on tap for passing maneuvers and uphill slogs. Some competitors offer turbocharged four-cylinders that are similarly powered, but there's something to be said for a tried-and-true naturally aspirated V6. Properly equipped, the Equinox can tow up to 3,500 pounds, which is also impressive. And while the Equinox isn't a class leader for overall roominess, it has a decent amount of space in the back for rear passengers. Aside from these traits, though, the Equinox is generally outmatched by several leaders in this segment. The standard four-cylinder engine in the 2015 Equinox is pretty underwhelming. While its rated power on paper is competitive, with it the Equinox just doesn't have a whole lot of verve when you're trying to accelerate around other cars in the passing lane or getting up to speed for freeway on-ramps. This is especially troubling if you enjoy the sensation of driving at all, because it contributes to a general lack of driving entertainment in the Equinox. This may seem like a moot point for shoppers who are more interested in fuel economy, but in our testing of a four-cylinder Equinox we found that its real-world fuel economy falls short of the EPA estimates. If the Equinox doesn't quite seem to be what you're looking for, some newer kids on the block might be more appealing. The Honda CR-V is the most well-rounded crossover you can get today, with a more fuel-efficient engine and a bit more cargo space in the back as well. If you're looking for a crossover that's more entertaining to drive but is still quite practical, the 2015 Mazda CX-5 is our choice. Other viable options include the high-tech and agile 2015 Ford Escape, the engaging and roomy Hyundai Santa Fe Sport and the versatile 2015 Jeep Cherokee, which has an available V6 and some excellent off-roading tricks up its sleeve. No Video Content Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options The 2015 Chevrolet Equinox is a compact crossover SUV that's offered in four trim levels: L, LS, LT and LTZ. Standard equipment on the entry-level L includes 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, keyless entry, air-conditioning, cloth upholstery, a driver seat with power height adjustment, a 60/40-split second-row seat that slides and reclines, cruise control, a trip computer and a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel with audio controls. In terms of onboard electronics, Bluetooth phone connectivity, OnStar communications (with an in-car 4G WiFi hotspot) and a six-speaker sound system with a CD player, an auxiliary audio input jack and an iPod/USB interface are also standard. The Equinox LS is very similar but has a few extra minor features, the most notable being satellite radio. The LT trim level is split into two subsets: 1LT and 2LT. The 1LT adds heated mirrors, rear privacy glass, roof rack side rails, premium cloth upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a rearview camera and an upgraded audio system that has a 7-inch touchscreen (Chevy's MyLink interface), Bluetooth audio connectivity, voice controls and smartphone integration for Internet radio apps such as Pandora. Moving up to the 2LT gets you foglights, remote start, automatic climate control, heated front seats, an eight-way power driver seat, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a Pioneer sound system with eight speakers. At the top of the line, there's the LTZ, which further adds 18-inch chromed alloy wheels, a power liftgate, rear parking sensors, leather upholstery, an eight-way power passenger seat, driver memory settings, a lane departure warning system and forward collision alert. LTZ models equipped with the V6 engine also get firmer suspension tuning. Many of the standard features of the upper trim levels can be added to the less expensive models as options. Other stand-alone options include 19-inch chrome-clad alloy wheels (LTZ V6 only), a sunroof, a navigation system (2LT and LTZ) and a dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system (LTZ only). Powertrains and Performance The 2015 Chevrolet Equinox is offered with one of two powertrains: a 2.4-liter four-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V6 engine. Both come with a six-speed automatic transmission and are available with front- or all-wheel drive. The 2.4-liter four-cylinder puts out 182 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque. In Edmunds testing, a front-wheel-drive Equinox with the four-cylinder engine accelerated from zero to 60 mph in 9.8 seconds, which is a little slower than average for this segment. For the four-cylinder engine, the EPA estimates 26 mpg combined (22 city/32 highway) with front-wheel drive and 23 mpg combined (20/29) with all-wheel drive. While these numbers are respectable, we've had a hard time reproducing them in the real world, especially on the highway. The optional 3.6-liter V6 produces 301 hp and 272 lb-ft of torque. In testing of the essentially identical GMC Terrain with the V6 and all-wheel drive, we recorded a 0-60 time of 7.0 seconds. That's impressive, as it's about half a second quicker than average for small and midsize crossovers with a six-cylinder or upgraded turbocharged engine. EPA fuel economy estimates for this engine drop quite a bit though, with the V6/front-wheel-drive combo coming in at 20 mpg combined (17/24) and the all-wheel drive with the V6 getting 19 mpg combined (16/23). Properly equipped, four-cylinder models will tow up to 1,500 pounds, while the V6 towing capacity climbs to a more useful 3,500 pounds. Safety Standard safety features on the 2015 Chevy Equinox include antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, front seat side-impact airbags and side curtain airbags. Also standard is GM's OnStar emergency communications system, which includes automatic crash notification, an emergency assistance button, remote door unlock and stolen vehicle assistance. A rearview camera is standard on all trims except the LS. Standard on the LTZ and optional on the 2LT are rear parking sensors and frontal collision and lane departure warning systems. In government crash tests, the Equinox received an overall score of four stars out of a possible five, with four stars for frontal crash protection and five stars for side protection. In testing by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the Equinox earned the highest possible rating of "Good" in the small-overlap frontal-offset, moderate-overlap frontal offset, side impact and roof strength tests. Its head and seat restraint design was also rated "Good" for whiplash protection in rear impacts. Interior Design and Special Features Much like the rest of Chevy's current lineup, the inside of the 2015 Equinox is generally stylish and well laid out. There's a distinctive dual-cowl design that looks all the more appealing with the available two-tone color scheme. The quality of the materials is just average, but the overall effect is quite pleasing. Seating comfort and legroom are good all around, and the sliding and reclining second-row seats allow you to expand the amount of legroom in the rear. The downside to all this room being devoted to passengers is that the Equinox offers less cargo space than many competitors, with 31.5 cubic feet of storage behind the 60/40-split rear seats. Fold both sections of those seatbacks down and the interior maxes out at 63.7 cubic feet of cargo room -- the CX-5 offers 65 cubic feet, and the CR-V has more than 70. The audio system's touchscreen interface (1LT and above) features customizable menus similar to those on modern smartphones and it is relatively easy to use. The MyLink system incorporates Bluetooth streaming audio capability, which allows it to work with popular smartphone apps like Pandora and Stitcher. There are a few weak spots though, such as the touchscreen's occasionally slow processing times and missed responses to touch inputs. Driving Impressions Driving characteristics for the 2015 Chevrolet Equinox will largely depend on which engine you select. Although the four-cylinder Equinox has similar power ratings and acceleration times to other compact crossovers in this price range, it doesn't feel as potent out in the real world. You'll have the gas pedal floored during routine merging and passing maneuvers, and this is neither very relaxing nor advantageous for fuel economy. If you're looking for a more enjoyable driving experience, the V6 is definitely the choice we'd recommend. The Equinox's handling abilities are nothing special. The steering doesn't offer very much road feel and isn't very precise. And the Chevy's suspension is tuned to favor comfort over sharp handling around turns. The upside, of course, is an isolated, smooth ride that's enhanced by the overall serenity of the cabin. Introduction Since its introduction back in 2010, the Chevrolet Equinox has been one of our favorite small crossover SUVs thanks to its combination of good looks, comfort and practicality. Compared to some more recently introduced or redesigned models, the 2014 Chevy Equinox isn't quite as desirable as it once was, but it's still a model you'll likely want to take a look at if you're shopping for a compact crossover. High on the Equinox's positive attribute list is the availability of a strong V6 engine. More and more automakers are dropping the optional V6s from their small crossover lineups due to fuel economy concerns or a claimed lack of consumer demand. This leaves the Equinox (plus its GMC twin, the Terrain) as one of only a few models in 2014 that offers six-cylinder grunt for towing or hauling or merely to satisfy your desire for speed. The Equinox also gets a thumbs-up for its overall ride comfort and the quietness of its cabin. This small Chevy doesn't offer quite as much cargo capacity as some rivals, but there's still enough to deal with the typical items that most people will be looking to haul. Plus, we like that the Equinox's rear seat both reclines and slides back to give second-row occupants first-class legroom. Less impressive is the Equinox's 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that's standard on all trim levels. It has solid EPA fuel economy ratings, but out in the real world, we've been underwhelmed by both its performance and its fuel economy. Handling isn't a strong suit for the Equinox either, and its steering isn't very precise even by budget crossover SUV standards. If practicality is your top priority, you'd be wise to check out the roomier and multitalented Honda CR-V or perhaps the Kia Sorento, which also has a V6 option plus an available third-row seat. Shoppers looking for a more entertaining driving experience will also want to look at sportier models like the Ford Escape, Mazda CX-5 or Volkswagen Tiguan. But all things considered, the 2014 Chevrolet Equinox is definitely worth a look, particularly if you're interested in a small crossover with a truly upscale interior and a V6 engine option. No Video Content Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options The 2014 Chevrolet Equinox is a compact crossover SUV that's offered in three trim levels: LS, LT and LTZ. Standard equipment on the entry-level LS includes 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, keyless entry, air-conditioning, cloth upholstery, a driver seat with power height adjustment, a 60/40-split second-row seat that slides and reclines, cruise control, a trip computer, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel with audio controls, Bluetooth phone connectivity, OnStar communications and a six-speaker sound system with a CD player, satellite radio, an auxiliary audio input jack and a USB/iPod interface. The LT trim level is actually split into two subsets: 1LT and 2LT. The 1LT adds heated mirrors, rear privacy glass, roof rack side rails, premium cloth upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a rearview camera and an upgraded audio system that has a 7-inch touchscreen (Chevy's MyLink interface), Bluetooth audio connectivity, voice controls and smartphone integration for Internet radio apps such as Pandora. Moving up to the 2LT gets you foglights, remote start, automatic climate control, heated front seats, an eight-way power driver seat, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a Pioneer sound system with eight speakers. Springing for the top-of-the-line LTZ gets you some nice extras, including 18-inch chromed alloy wheels, a power liftgate, rear parking sensors, leather upholstery, an eight-way power passenger seat, driver memory settings and a lane departure warning system with forward collision alert. LTZ models equipped with the V6 engine also get firmer suspension tuning. Some of the standard features on upper trim levels are bundled into option packages that can be added to the less expensive models. Other options include 19-inch chrome-clad alloy wheels (LTZ V6 only), a sunroof, a navigation system (2LT and LTZ) and a dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system (LTZ only). Powertrains and Performance The 2014 Chevrolet Equinox is offered with one of two powertrains. A 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 182 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque is standard across the model lineup, as are a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. An all-wheel-drive system is optional. In Edmunds testing, a front-wheel-drive Equinox with the four-cylinder engine accelerated from zero to 60 mph in 9.3 seconds, an average number for this segment. EPA fuel economy estimates are 22 mpg city/32 mpg highway and 26 mpg combined with front-wheel drive and 20/29/23 with all-wheel drive. While these numbers are impressive, in our tests the Equinox had a hard time matching them, especially on the highway. LT and LTZ models are also available with a 3.6-liter V6 that produces 301 hp and 272 lb-ft of torque. In testing of the essentially identical GMC Terrain V6, we recorded a 0-60 mph time of 7.0 seconds, an impressive time among small and midsize crossovers with a six-cylinder or upgraded turbocharged engine. Not surprisingly, EPA fuel economy estimates for this engine are significantly lower at 17/24/20 with front-wheel drive and 16/23/19 with all-wheel drive. Properly equipped, four-cylinder models will tow up to 1,500 pounds. With the V6, towing capacity climbs to 3,500 pounds. Safety Standard safety features on the 2014 Chevy Equinox include antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, front seat side-impact airbags and side curtain airbags. Also standard is GM's OnStar emergency communications system, which includes automatic crash notification, an emergency assistance button, remote door unlock and stolen vehicle assistance. A rearview camera is standard on all trims except the LS. Standard on the LTZ and optional on the 2LT are rear parking sensors and frontal collision and lane departure warning systems. In Edmunds brake testing an Equinox came to a stop from 60 mph in 122 feet, which is about average for this type of vehicle. In government crash tests, the Equinox received an overall score of four stars out of a possible five. Within that rating, it received four stars for overall frontal crash protection and five stars for overall side protection. In moderate-overlap frontal-offset, side-impact and roof-strength crash testing conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the Equinox earned a top "Good" rating. Interior Design and Special Features Inside, the 2014 Chevrolet Equinox offers a stylish cabin with a distinctive dual-cowl design that looks all the more appealing with the available two-tone color scheme. The quality of the materials is just average, but the overall effect is quite pleasing, especially compared to some of the Chevy's competitors, which don't put as much priority on design. Another strength here is the audio system's touchscreen interface (1LT and above) that features customizable menus similar to those on modern smartphones. The MyLink system incorporates Bluetooth streaming audio capability, which allows it to work with popular smartphone apps like Pandora and Stitcher. Weak spots here include the touchscreen's occasional slow processing times and missed responses to touch inputs. Seating comfort and legroom is good all around, and the sliding and reclining second-row seats allow you to expand the amount of legroom in the rear. The downside to all this room being devoted to passengers is that the Equinox offers less cargo space than many competitors, with 31.4 cubic feet of storage behind the 60/40-split rear seats. Fold both sections of those seatbacks down and the interior maxes out at 63.7 cubic feet of cargo room -- the CR-V and Sorento offer more than 70 cubic feet of capacity. Driving Impressions The driving character of the 2014 Chevrolet Equinox is largely dictated by what's under the hood. Although the four-cylinder Equinox matches the acceleration times of other compact crossovers in this price range, it doesn't feel as potent out in the real world. You'll have the gas pedal floored during routine merging and passing maneuvers, and this isn't very relaxing. In contrast, the V6 is downright impressive. It provides strong and smooth performance in any situation. The Equinox's handling abilities are nothing special. The steering isn't very precise, and the Chevy's suspension is tuned to favor comfort over sharp handling around turns. Seller expressly does not warrant the correctness of the odometer reading, year of manufacture, make, model, class or style, prior use or condition of the Vehicle. Buyer acknowledges that prior to the sale, Seller has provided to Buyer the opportunity to inspect the Vehicle or have it inspected by a mechanic of Buyer's choosing at Buyer's expense. By accepting delivery of the Vehicle Buyer agrees that the condition of the Vehicle is satisfactory and acceptable. Buyer agrees that any and all advertisements relating to the Vehicle are not warranties made by Seller and that they should not be relied upon by Buyer in making this purchase. Seller disclaims all liability for any mistakes, inaccurate descriptions or other misstatements in its advertisements and Buyer agrees that Buyer's opportunity to inspect the Vehicle allows Buyer to verify the accuracy of any advertisements before purchase. Vehicle history reports provided by third parties, such as carfax.com and/or autocheck.com may not be current and/or accurate and Buyer relies on such reports at his or her own risk. Buyer understands and agrees that Seller's managers, employees, agents and/or representatives are NOT authorized to make verbal promises or representations relating in any way the Vehicle. Buyer agrees that unless such promises or representations have been reduced to writing as part of this Order, that Buyer is not relying on such promises or representations in purchasing the Vehicle and Buyer waives the right to seek to enforce such promises or representations. Buyer acknowledges that the Vehicle being purchased was acquired by Seller through trade, a public or private sale or at an auction under circumstances in which the prior owner's registration and/or use of the Vehicle may not have been disclosed to Seller. Even if not designated on this Order, Buyer acknowledges that the Vehicle being purchased may have been titled, registered or used as a (a) short term lease vehicle, (b) taxicab; or (c) police vehicle. In addition, the Vehicle may be (a) rebuilt, assembled from parts, or combined; (b) a kit car, glider kit, replica vehicle; (c) total loss vehicle, previously damaged, (d) a flood vehicle , (e) a not actual mileage vehicle and/or (f) a non-conforming vehicle as that term is defined under Chapter 681 of the Florida Statutes. It is Buyer's sole obligation to independently verify the Vehicle's prior use or designation prior to purchase, if these items are material to Buyer. It is the responsibility of the buyer to have thoroughly inspected the vehicle as well as to research title and accidents history and to have satisfied himself or herself as to the condition and value and to make a purchase decision based upon that judgment solely. Seller assumes no responsibility for any previous damage or accidents the vehicle might had in the past. Buyer does not rely on any statements from Seller relating to the history of the vehicle. Buyer expressly acknowledges that the Vehicle being purchased under this Order has been involved in an prior accident, has salvage history and sustained damage as a result of such accident and that repairs have been done to it. Seller makes no representations as to the nature and extent of such accident damage and/or the nature and sufficiency of the repairs. The damage to the Vehicle may include damage that resulted in the Vehicle being deemed a total loss by an insurance company. The Vehicle's status as a total loss vehicle may or may not be reflected on the Vehicle's certificate of title and/or in the Vehicle's title history. Seller makes no warranties, representation or assurances that the motor vehicle contains only original manufacturer installed or manufacturer rebuilt components, parts or accessories. Buyer agrees that the Vehicle has been delivered to Buyer and Buyer accepts delivery of the Vehicle in Florida, at Seller's principle place of business. If Buyer is shipping the Vehicle out of state, then the person accepting delivery of the Vehicle for Buyer shall be deemed Buyer's agent for accepting delivery of the Vehicle in Florida. This Order and the entire transaction between the parties shall be governed by Florida law. Arbitration.- The parties to this Order hereby agree that any and all Claims (defined below) shall be decided through binding arbitration as provided for herein. For purposes of this arbitration provision: Us/Our means: Diamond Enterprise Financial Inc d/b/a USA Cars, its parents,subsidiaries, affiliates, predecessors and successors in interest, and agents, and all of their officers, directors and employees. In addition to all other rights and remedies available to Seller at law or in equity, Seller has the following rights and remedies under this Order: (a) Reclamation.- Seller may enter into Buyer's property and reclaim the Vehicle with or without notification to Buyer. Seller may also make a written demand on Seller to return the Vehicle and Buyer agrees to do so within 24 hours of such demand. (b) Disposition of Trade - Buyer agrees that immediately upon Buyer's execution of this Order, Seller may dispose of Buyer's Trade in any commercially reasonable manner, including the sale of the Trade to a third party, retail or wholesale. In the event that this Order is not completed for any reason or in the event that it is rescinded for any reason, Seller agrees that Buyer may retain the proceeds of the sale of the Trade to offset its damages, if any. If Seller does not have any damages relating to rescission or failure of this Order to be completed, Seller may retain any costs and reconditioning expenses relating to the sale plus a 15% commission on the sale from the sale proceeds. The remaining amount shall be delivered to Buyer in full satisfaction of any claims relating to the Trade.(c) In the event that Buyer pursues any claim for rescission of this transaction, Seller shall have the right to set off against Buyer's damages or to assert as an independent claim, a claim for the reasonable value of Buyer's use of the vehicle, including depreciation and mileage of the Vehicle. If any term of this Order is held to be unconscionable or unenforceable, for any reason, by any court of competent jurisdiction, this Order shall be construed as if such clause were never a part of this Order and the balance of the terms of this Order shall be binding on the parties. The waiver or invalidity of any provision of this Order shall not effect the binding nature of the remaining provisions. No breach of this Order by Buyer shall be deemed waived unless such waiver is agreed to by Seller in writing. The parties agree that any modification of this Order must be made in writing and signed by the parties in order to be valid. Buyer agrees that Buyer's deposit on the Vehicle is non-refundable, unless otherwise agreed to in writing by Buyer and Seller.In addition to any other breaches of this Order, the following expressly constitute acts of default under this Order: (a) The refusal of any financial institution to finance any portion of the purchase price; (b) The failure of Buyer to make any payment required under any accompanying finance agreement; (c) The failure of Buyer to provide Seller with a lien free title to any Trade or the failure of Buyer to pay Seller any amount in excess of the payoff on the Trade after demand from Seller; (d) Any misstatement or misrepresentation by Buyer, whether intentional or not, on any document submitted to Seller in connection with this transaction. (e) The refusal of any financial institution to honor any check, draft or other instrument presented by Seller in connection with the acquisition of the Vehicle.
