El Camino 1972 (GMC Sprint) Rare Summer is the time for cruising and what better way than to cruise the highways than this 1972 El Camino or should I say GMC Sprint. Like today GM manufactures parallel vehicles. In 1972 Chevrolet’s version was the El Camino while GMC offered the Sprint in very limited numbers. This classic design offered the versatility of a pickup with the style and comfort of the famed Malibu. Acquiring this vehicle as a California car with no rust allowed me to concentrate on the drive train and the aesthetics as can be seen in the corresponding photos. The 350 small block was rebuilt and has approximately 2500 miles on it. Its topped of with a Holly 350 carb, headers with a new 2 1/2 exhaust system, 10” rear end and a rebuilt auto trans along with the addition of Disc brakes, Craiger wheels and Michelin tires. Next, the body was painted with base coat clear coat followed by a matching custom tonneau cover that lifts by way of air lifts requiring no snaps on the body. The bumpers were also rechromed. The interior is finished off with new rugs, headliner, door panels, bucket seats and console floor shift. A Monte Carlo dash was installed with tach as well as a stereo radio with a iPod pickup which allows you to forget about your old 8-track tapes and crank up your MP3’s. It’s got plenty of power, drives straight and is really a head turner.
