This is a very nice '71 El Camino SS that my father has owned for the past 10 years. It was originally a southeastern car. This car underwent a very complete nut and bolt, frame off restoration in N. Carolina in 2003-2005. It has been in the N. Texas area since that time. There are over $35k in receipts on the restoration not including the cost of the car. It was an extensive nut and bolt level restoration on an already solid, dry southern car. My father, who is 88 years old, has been the owner of this car during that time and I have maintained it during the last 10 years. It has never been driven hard and has been carefully stored and driven regularly during the last ten years. Below is a breakdown of the cars description: Body: A virtually rust free car that was stripped to bare metal and treated to very high quality paint and body work. The paint is bc/cc in Cranberry Red with Black stripes. The paint still looks fresh with no dings/scratches other than one small dent in the front right tip of the fender. I would rate the paint and body work an 8 on a 10 scale, it draws attention everywhere it goes and usually wins it's class in small to medium size shows in the DFW area. The chrome trim is original and is nice driven quality, front and rear bumpers are re-chromed and nice. All new rubber seals installed during the restoration. The underbody was fully detailed and painted and plated nicely. The truck bed looks brand new and has a high quality rubber mat cut to fit for protection. Tailgate fits well and functions nicely. Drivetrain:A brand new ZZ502 crate engine was installed during the restoration in 2005 and has about 5600 miles on it now. It is rated at 502hp/567tq and has a nice set of coated Hedman Elite headers (excellent ground clearance and thick flange to prevent leaks) and a flowmaster dual exhaust system. It has more than enough power and abundant torque to move the car well. Fully restored and functioning cowl induction system. All new factory A/C parts and system were correctly converted to R134A and it blows cold. Power Steering and Power Brakes. TH400 automatic that was rebuilt during the restoration shifts nicely. I believe it's 12 bolt rear end is original to the car and was rebuilt during the restoration, it has posi-traction and a set of 3.08 gears installed that are well suited to this engines torque curve. Suspension: All new bushings and ball joints, shocks, springs and powder coated factory sway bars front and rear. Rides and drives very nicely and has a great factory stance. Wheels are restored and powder coated with correct gray paint with new trim rings and center caps and has 245/60/15 BFG Radial T/A's on the car that were new in 2013. Brakes are factory front disc rear drum that were fully restored in 2005 and uses DOT5 fluid. Restored booster and master cylinder at that same time. Interior: Was fully restored in 2005, new seat buns and seat covers installed on the buckets. New door panels and carpet, new console and restored shifter and plates. Dash was restored with new pad, gauges rebuilt and new chrome in 2005. Steering wheel is a nice original style SS wheel and new headliner was installed correctly at the same time. Radio is a factory style replacement and plays thru kick panel speakers but needs a better ground as it has some static. We never listen to it as the exhaust note on the car is so nice. Overall a very nice driven car that shows very well and runs and drives nicely. I have researched the car as much as possible and can not find any evidence that would prove it was or was not a factory SS car so no claim is made in that regard but it has all correct details of the SS down to the smallest items. It was originally a green car and, as it did not have the numbers matching drivetrain, was very nicely restored to the owners liking at that time. There is a photo album of the restoration from start to finish along with virtually every receipt. Please feel free to ask all questions thru eBay and I will answer them as quickly as possible.
