We've all seen folks take a Malibu and clone it into an SS, but this one is just a little different. It is actually a Malibu that I changed into a lower level 300 Deluxe! Its badged as a 427, sort of a pre COPO clone that never was. I've had this car for 10 years, and built it to drive, not for a quick flip, so I have not cut corners on it. Read on... The car has an NOS right fender, AMD left fender and header panel, a repro right 1/4 panel, and a left lower 1/4 panel. The trunk and floors are solid, the only other body repairs were to section in the trunk weatherstrip channel from a donor car. It was sprayed with Slicksand hi build primer before blocking, and painted with Nason single stage urethane. The paint is going on 4 years and is still very nice. My goal was a factory appearing finish, so when I cut and buffed it, I left a slight amount of orange peel. If you want it to look like glass, there is enough material for another cut and buff. The rear bumper and rocker moldings were NOS parts, the front bumper, door handles and other trim are repros. Its got a new windshield, with the rest of the glass being original. All weatherstrip and such was replaced at that time. I'd call it an 8 out of 10, there are a few spots if you know where to look, plus a few chips from use, since I DRIVE this car! The interior was done shortly after paint, and looks really outstanding. It is all Distictive, and was new except for a redyed original dash pad. The dash has factory U14 gauges except for the tach, which is a no name unit resembling an old Sun. There is a tilt column with the original 300 Deluxe steering wheel. It has an am radio with a hidden FM converter (remember those?) and a rear seat speaker with fader. Both speakers are new from turnswitch dot com, and it plays as well (or not) as you would expect. The car is also equipped with a functioning aftermarket cruise control, and a Day 2 appearing under dash a/c unit that cools to 38 degrees. I wanted to enjoy the ride, have I mentioned that I DRIVE this car? The engine is a 454, bored .030 over with flattop pistons. The heads are 1968 casting #401. These are large oval ports, and give a compression ratio of around 9.1, meaning it runs on pump gas with no problem. The cam is a Howards hydraulic with .500/.505 lift on a 114 degree lobe center, it idles well and makes nice power. The intake and exhaust manifolds are stock, with a custom tuned Quadrajet and recurved points distributor. The shortblock only has about 100 miles on it since a complete rebuild. The trans is a 700R4 overdrive with lockup and a 2100 stall converter, and it has less than 150 miles since a complete rebuild with Transgo parts. The driveshaft was shortened and balanced at the same time. Out back is the original 10 bolt peg leg differential with 3.08 gears with new seals and bearings. This combo makes for a great highway car. Living in Houston, you can't get anywhere without being on the highway, and as I think I've mentioned, I DRIVE this car! The wheels are15x7 rally wheels with new trim rings and have F70-15 bias ply repro Firestone tires, including the spare. The tires have about 2,000 miles on them. The buyer will have a choice of these wheels and tires, or a set of 215-70-15 whitewall radials on 15x7 rally wheels, also includes a matching spare. The redlines look better, but the whitewalls drive better! The front and rear suspensions have been rebuilt with all stock parts, and there are front and rear swaybars with all new brakes, including the factory single piston from discs, that have about 1Underhood is a 1977 truck 454 bored .030 over with flat top pistons, and 1968 heads with ca50 miles on them. A Jeep Grand Cherokee box makes for tight steering, and the car drives and goes down the road like it was 1968 again. So you are thinking, "wow, what a car, sounds like its perfect" Well... no its not. The horn does not work, I've never been able to find the correct parts for the 300 Deluxe steering wheel. The factory amp gauge and temp gauges are inop, I have a digital volt gauge plugged into an underdash charging port, and an aftermarket temp gauge. The vent window rubber is cracking, I could not figure out how to take them apart to replace them, even with youtube :( The paint is not a 10, and there is a little bit of wind noise, even with new weatherstrips. I have every reciept for everything, and a clear Texas title But,if you want a car to drive anywhere, any time, win trophies and get thumbs up, then this is the one. I just clay barred, polished and waxed it and it has a full tank of gas. The front and rear suspensions have been rebuilt with all stock parts, and there are front and rear swaybars with all new brakes, including the factory single piston from discs, that have about 1Underhood is a 1977 truck 454 bored .030 over with flat top pistons, and 1968 heads with ca50 miles on them. A Jeep Grand Cherokee box makes for tight steering, and the car drives and goes down the road like it was 1968 again. Everything on this car has under 3,000 miles on it, and I would not hesitate to drive it cross country with doing nothing more that checking oil and tire pressure before I left. In fact, I've done just that, I took it to Kansas City last years for the Midwest Chevelle Regional show (where it won a Top 3 award in the 1968 Stock class!), a 1,500 mile round trip. So you are thinking, "wow, what a car, sounds like its perfect" Well... no its not. The horn does not work, I've never been able to find the correct parts for the 300 Deluxe steering wheel. The factory amp gauge and temp gauges are inop, I have a digital volt gauge plugged into an underdash charging port, and an aftermarket temp gauge. The vent window rubber is cracking, I could not figure out how to take them apart to replace them, even with youtube :( The paint is not a 10, and there is a little bit of wind noise, even with new weatherstrips. I have every reciept for everything, and a clear Texas title But,if you want a car to drive anywhere, any time, win trophies and get thumbs up, then this is the one. I just clay barred, polished and waxed it and it has a full tank of gas. It has a 350 (not original to the car) with 350 automatic transmission, column shift. Since then I have done the following: -Installed wiper blades (they are operational) -Replaced all glass (except for the windshield) and had them tinted -Converted the front brakes to disc (new spindles, rotors, calipers, etc.) with new front brake lines -Upgraded power brake booster and master cylinder -Replaced rear brakes, springs, wheel cylinders -Installed 16" electric cooling fan -Replaced ENTIRE wiring throughout the car with American Autowire Harness -Relocated battery to the trunk and added remote starter solenoid and battery tender connection (tender included with the sale) -Replaced the blower motor -Installed Magnaflow stainless steel exhaust from headers back -Installed Fatmat sound deadener throughout interior, including roof -New carpet, front door panels, arm rests, rear view mirror, SS gauges, seat belts, glove box, steering wheel -Installed custom console with DVD player, tachometer, remote trunk release, 12V accessory, and accent lights -Installed Infinity speaker: door speakers, 6x9s in rear deck, and 10" baseline powered subwoofer -Replaced rear trunk lock cylinder with backup camera -Installed fire extinguisher, tire iron, and jack in the trunk -Replaced rear shocks and springs -Installed Cragar Magnum 510 with BF Goodrich tires -Painted trunk with rubberized undercoating and coated the bottom with bed liner -Upgraded the alternator Everything works as it should except the horn. 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle, 1 of 11,468 Post cars. I bought this car from an estate sale and it was with the same owner its entire life. This car has 30,000 original miles! I have all the original paperwork from the dealership when the car was purchased. The build sheet, Dealership purchase agreement and trade-in paperwork! The Protectoplate and lots of receipts from the drive train build. It was painted once 11 years ago but it doesn't show it. It is the original color. The body is laser straight. Their is no filler of any kind in the body anywhere. Bumpers are original too. The car was never in any accidents and all body panels are original. The interior is all original. I replaced the package tray because it was so faded and the weather stripping around the doors and truck. But other than that everything is original and untouched. The car shows a nice patina throughout the interior but no rips or tears of any kind. Nothing is broken or damaged. This car was very well taken care of throughout its life. The drive train was updated about 7 years ago and the car saw about 4000 miles since the update. the motor, trans and rear end were removed. The 400ci was bored .15 to a 406, Comp Cam, Hooker headers, Weiand intake and Holley carb was installed. The trans was rebuilt for performance. The car shifts very tight. She will bark every gear. The 10 bolt rearend got upgraded axles and all new 411 gears with Posi traction. A 3 core radiator was added with dual puller fans to keep everything nice and cool. There is not a drop of oil coming from this car anywhere. The wheels and tires are like new. 275/60/R15 tires on the back and 245/60/R15 on the front. Those are some wide tires for this car and give it a aggressive stance. Other than the meaty tires she is a sleeper. When those 4 Barrels kick you know it! I have multiple videos of the car, walk around, running, driving, undercarriage. I took them today because the weather was just perfect. Just let me know and I will send them to you. Engine/Engine Compartment: The engine compartment shows normal wear and tear that is associated with a driven vehicle. It shows light dust and dirt on all the engine compartment components. There is paint flaking on the engine block and on the accessories. The original engine has been upgraded to a mid-1970’s full-size vehicle 454 engine (block casting number 361959). The wiring and hoses appear in good condition. The brake booster and reservoir has been upgraded using a SSBC kit. The radiator has been upgraded to an aftermarket aluminum radiator while a chrome alternator replaces the original one. Overall the entire engine compartment is in good condition. Chassis: The chassis of this Chevelle appears in rust free original condition. The entire chassis is painted black. The frame is rock solid. The floor pan is solid and rust free as is the trunk floor. The fuel tank appears in very good condition. Centerline polished aluminum wheels have been mounted with BF Goodrich radial T/A tires. The brakes have been upgraded with a SSBC power front disc brake kit. The front and rear chrome bumpers appear in very good condition. The suspension and chassis appears in good condition overall. Exterior: The exterior of this Chevelle has been repainted in medium metallic blue paint. The rocker moldings appear in very good condition. The grille and headlight bezels appear in good condition. All of the emblems and lenses are in good condition. The chrome rearview mirror appears in like new condition. The paint shows some minor defects such as chips and scratches in various locations from normal use and wear. There are a few small rust bubbles on the passenger quarter panel near the wheel opening and a small amount of filler in the same area. Overall the exterior of this Chevelle appears in very good condition. This 1965 Chevelle is the perfect example of a local show car/weekend cruiser. It was purchased off of EBay a few years ago and judging by the condition of the chassis I would have to believe it was originally a western car. It is a great car for the entry level enthusiast and hobbyist. The engine has been upgraded to a big block 454; it has a manual shift transmission and disc brakes to aid in safer stopping. This car has been built to drive and enjoy. This car looks excellent from 20 feet away but upon closer inspection one will start to notice the minor imperfections. It is a prime example of a condition #3 vehicle. This particular Chevelle was the recipient of an older/amateur restoration and is considered a local show car. For these reasons I condition grade this Chevelle as being in very good condition overall.
