Authentic GM V8 car with 14 for second and third placement of cars VIN, denoting V8. Car has been recently restored to include: interior restoration, engine and transmission refurbishing, front end and rear end rebuilding. Car runs and drives better than many "restored muscle cars", and engine, transmission and rear end are reliable. Engine carries to 60 psi oil pressure w/ 5w30 oil when warm and runs consistently 160-180F even in 100 degree summer days. New belts and hoses, carburetor professionally tuned with correct jets and power valves. Fuel gauge works, speedometer works, heat works, lights work (brights, tail, turn, brake, marker), windshield wipers work. Car sounds awesome, tracks straight, hooks up great, and has more power than most have the guts to unleash! This is a special car that will set itself apart at the local car event or cruise night. From the dual snorkel air cleaner on solid lifter L78 big block engine, to the correct clutchless "W" stamped fan blade, to the redline tires, to the Hurst white ball shifter and chrome-accented strato bucket seats--- this car is a crowd pleaser! This is the sort of car that draws the curiosity and grabs the attention of people at almost every stop light or traffic intersection or store parking lot. People see and admire the car and when they hear the clatter of the solid lifters and the deep thunder of the high compression big block engine -- they suspect this is not your average small block Nova. Then they see the infamous 396 badging on the fenders and wonder, could it be? If you happen to be stopped and open the hood, be prepared to be bombarded with comments and questions when they see the large engine stuffed in the smaller (lighter than Camaro) Nova with the almost never seen dual snorkel intake that GM installed on only a small number of later built 1970 big block L78 Novas! Most in your average community have never seen in person a big block Nova with an L78 engine and many are surprised that GM equipped a select number of Novas with the big block factory race engine. The average "car guy" has seen the big block Camaro or Chevelle, but a little Nova, and the L78?? This is the exciting intrigue associated with driving this car! The L78 engine option in 1970 was actually 402ci even though the cars were badged 396 and were a factory race engine with larger square port heads, solid lifters, high lift camshaft, 11.0:1 compression ratio, and 850cfm duel feed double pump carburetor. The car we are selling has retained the factory 11.0:1 compression ratio and above mentioned specifications to the L78 special GM race engine but has been tuned to run on premium pump gasoline. The cylinder heads had special work performed to them to increase horsepower while at the same time allowing for operation on today's pump fuel. It should also be stated that these factory race engines were under-rated for insurance purposes, so do not let the factory rating fool you! The L78 was the highest horsepower engine ever offered in the Nova, and 1970 was the last year that it was offered for Nova and the only year for 402ci-- making the 1970 L78 the largest most powerful Nova engine of all time. The L78/L89 was one of the three most powerful special order engines ever offered by GM in the muscle car era-- right next to ZL1 and LS6. There were other big block options for Nova, but they were lower horsepower engines such as the L34 and had the smaller round port heads, lower compression ratio, hydraulic lifters, etc. The Nova with L78 engine is a true ICON of the muscle car era, and it is one of the most valuable and sought after Chevrolets for 1970 in the collector car market! Novas with L78 engines are likely to continue to increase in resale value over time and make for one of the rarest cars for collection of all time. When we acquired this car, it had an engine that was incorrect for a 1970 Nova and a 4-speed manual transmission improperly dated in relation to the assembly date of the car 06D . During restoration, the incorrect engine and transmission were removed and above mentioned re-stamped engine and transmission were installed, once again, giving the car a date coded "numbers matching" engine and transmission correct for 1970 Nova. The car was blue with black interior and bagged SS when we acquired it as it remains presently, along with 12 bolt rear end, power disc brakes, and wider big block style core support w/ heavy duty radiator. The trim tag has been corrected to come back as blue w/ black bucket seats, making it a more correctly restored car in relation to its present state. The car does have big block engine frame mounts and big block cross member.
