Well folks, here it is....your chance to own a piece of Mopar and NASCAR history! This is an all original 56,000 mile, EV2 Tor Red, numbers matching 440 Six pack, 727 Torqueflite automatic Superbird that was plucked out of a dealer's inventory and set aside for over 30 years. I still have the keytag from the original dealership that owned the car from day one. With only over a little over 400 440 Six Pack automatic Birds produced out of a total of over 1400.....this is a rare car. This car was repainted about 8-10 years ago in its original color just to have the "new car look". Some guys like survivors, some guys like artwork.....it's all a taste thing. Let me start by saying that I am a Mopar collector and have owned many collector Mopars over the years. This is the cleanest, most original, and most precise Mopar that I have ever owned...and I have owned alot of them. Every detail is there, paint dabs, engine detail, markings underneath the car, etc. Sorry...no broadcast sheet, but it does have all matching body numbers, engine block VIN number, and original fender tag. I drive it to car shows and cruise-ins.....and that’s the only reason it's not "perfect". I believe they are meant to be driven. I always wanted a wing car and the ONLY reason I am selling this car is to make another business investment elsewhere. For those who don't have the patience to read this listing all the way through, let me state a few things up front. I am not a dealer and I don't have to sell this car in a hurry for a discount. I have looked at all the recent sales, auctions, etc and I know what the car is worth. I don’t need any help from a broker to sell it, but thanks in advance for the offer. I have no interest in any trades.....just cold hard cash. The car will not leave my garage until a wire and/or bank cashiers' check CLEARS my account. once you arrange your own shipping, I will personally guide the car onto the trailer and babysit the whole process for you. I've seen tons of phishing and resell scams that you can imagine....so don’t waste your time. If you want a rolling piece of artwork and you have the cash to pay for it...please read on. Ok, now that all the fun stuff is out of the way, let me break down some details for you: Body/Paint: I believe the pictures will speak for themselves. All original sheet metal and laser straight lines. Trunk is clean with no issues. The car has 56k original miles, so it was easy to keep it all together. Repainted 8-10 years ago in a fresh coat of its original EV2, orange paint....it looks awesome. They sprayed the bottom of the car and it looks as clean as the top. Just check out the pictures of the bottom. It's driven, so not a perfect A+, but easily an A grade. Engine/Tranny: Best part of the car, in my opinion......numbers matching, original 440 Six Pack is still in the car. All factory stock, even the manifolds. Take a close look in the pictures and you will see the original casting numbers. Period correct 727 Torqueflite automatic tranny. I'm a perfectionist, so I updated the engine bay to date coded wires, etc. All other stickers and factory markings are there. Hit the key and go...runs super smooth, it's reliable, and sounds awesome! Only an A due to only a period correct tranny. Driveline: Runs well. I replaced steering knuckle and lines to get smoother steering and it paid off. You can literally steer with your pointer finger now. Was switched over to Mopar electronic ignition before I bought the car. Has original Sure Grip rear end, factory gears, and gear tag are still in place on the rear end! A+ Interior: Clean, simple, and all there. No sagging headliner, etc. All gages, lights, and switches work. Headlights raise properly, dome light works, radio works, door ajar alarm works, etc. A Wheels and Tires: Brand new. classic BF Goodriches with proper wheel, rings, and lugnuts. B+ grade, only because I would go to Polyglass...but that's me. Please let me know that questions you have that I didn't cover....I'm sure I missed something. I'm not a Superbird pro, so I'm sure this car has an imperfection or two. With that said, this car's originality/drivability/reliability/color/engine combo make it a desirable car to add to your collection. In fact, the division managed to barely surpass the 1,920 cars required to meet NASCAR's renewed homologation rule. And while these slow sellers lingered on lots and didn't do much for the brand during their day, their outrageous nature virtually guaranteed that, in time, they would become exclusive classics serious collectors dream of owning. This highly authentic Superbird is a fully documented, 3-owner dreamboat that wraps rare Black, White and B5 Blue aesthetics around an original 440/A727 drivetrain. And if you're a serious MoPar enthusiast who's looking for a crown jewel classic to lead your collection, it's a chance to turn your reverie into reality! HISTORY Throughout the '60s, Chrysler and Ford were heavily vested in the "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday" sales mentality. And Dodge's Charger 500, despite its NASCAR-inspired tweaks, just wasn't getting the job done. In an attempt to one up Ford's slick and equally fast Torino, Chrysler went to the drawing board and began exploring aerodynamics. While aerodynamics wasn't a new concept, it had yet to be seriously studied by major auto manufacturers. And Chrysler's foray into the subject eventually culminated in testing full scale models at Lockheed Martin's North Carolina wind tunnel. Engineers quickly realized the benefits of a wind-cutting nose, but the real epiphany came when they employed a large rear stabilizer. Not only did that 'rocket nose' and 'park bench' spoiler combination create 'zero lift' downforce, it also produced immense directional stability, permitting speeds in excess of 200 MPH. Not surprisingly, Dodge's storied Daytona won the first race it competed in, and would eventually become one of the most successful NASCAR stock cars of all time. And Plymouth, looking to lure NASCAR star Richard Petty back into the fold, followed Dodge's impressive Daytona with the equally slippery, and some say better, Road Runner Superbird. BODYWORK/TRIM Like many investment grade classics, this impressive Plymouth spent the majority of its 46 years in the hands of one very meticulous enthusiast. Traded in 1971 by its original owner, the car was nabbed by that enthusiast for a whopping $3,300 from Al Davenport Plymouth of Portsmouth, Virginia. In 2012, when that enthusiast decided to pass his beloved 'bird to a third owner, the car benefitted from a thorough, 1.5-year restoration that consisted of a little bodywork and quite a bit of detailing. During that refresh, Accomac, Virginia's Durbin's Auto Body stripped mostly original sheetmetal, welded up a fresh trunk pan, sprayed correct Blue Fire Metallic 2-stage and installed a fresh vinyl top. And today, this warrior rolls as one super slick, all-American muscle car that's so cool it'll make you feel guilty! ENGINE Raise this coupe's long hood and you'll find an original, 440 cubic inch RB V8 that's authenticated by a familiar 2536430 casting number and matching partial VIN. More popular than Chrysler's famed Hemi, and almost as feared as Plymouth's 440 6 BBL, this Super Commando V8 was designed to offer an exceptional combination of speed and civility. Oxygen whips through a correctly decaled, dual snorkel air cleaner to a big Carter carburetor, which is bolted to a glossy, Hemi Orange intake. At the front of that intake, a familiar points distributor sequences fire through reliable 7mm High Temperature plug wires. Behind those wires, Hemi Orange valve covers perfectly contrast correct, cast iron exhaust manifolds. Cooling is provided by a big, 26-inch radiator, which utilizes pliable hoses and simple squeeze clamps to channel water past a correct, 7-blade fan. A correct MoPar red cap utilizes an old school Chrysler voltage regulator to supply the jolts. And, aesthetically, everything in the clean engine bay presents great; from the car's cool factory decals and B5 Blue fenders to its old school washer reservoir and requisite Road Runner horn. According to this Plymouth's current owner, neither the big 440 nor its A727 companion has ever been fully rebuilt. And after the car's restoration, the moody 6 BBL induction noted in accompanying build photos was happily exchanged for a correct 4-barrel set-up. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Park this specialized B-Body on a lift and you'll find a fully sorted undercarriage that, thanks to an acute combination of low mileage and impeccable maintenance, remains very close to the way it left the Lynch Road assembly line. Factory undercoating protects solid floors that, while exceedingly nice, certainly aren't a stranger to the blacktop. Behind the Super Commando, an original A727 Torqueflite hangs a high performance "PK3410670" assembly stamp opposite a matching partial VIN. That proven transmission sends power to a correct 8.75-inch Chrysler rear end that spins a correct Sure Grip differential around correct 3.55 gears. At the front of the car, Chrysler's beefy Hemi Suspension utilizes heavy-duty torsion bars, an A12 sway bar and standard power steering to make quick work of big bumps and tight curves. At the back of the car, that same Hemi Suspension hangs correctly staggered springs at the sides of fresh KYB Gas-A-Just shocks and a stainless fuel tank that feeds stainless fuel lines. Stops come courtesy of standard power front disc and rear drum brakes. Spent gases traverse polished stainless tubes on their way to an H-shaped crossover, polished Dynomax mufflers and correct stainless tips. And all that MoPar goodness rolls on stylish Rallye wheels, which twist F70-14 Goodyear Polyglas tires around bright stainless trim rings and color-keyed center caps. INTERIOR Inside this famous Plymouth, a striking White & Black interior adds to the car's rare and exceptionally attractive aesthetics. Correct bench and bucket seats display no significant signs of wear. In front of those thrones, a straight, crack-free dash hangs correct Rallye gauges beside a correct AM/FM radio. At the bottom of that dash, well-maintained carpet centers a factory shifter on a correct console. At the sides of that carpet, bright door panels complement bright door frames. Above those frames, a tight headliner backs a cool Richard Petty autograph. In front of the driver, a correct, wood-trimmed steering wheel spins satin spokes around a cool Road Runner centerpiece. And behind the passengers, the car's cavernous trunk hides a fresh mat beneath a fifth Rallye wheel and a fifth a Goodyear tire. Atlas Muscle Cars is proud to offer for sale this 1970 numbers matching Plymouth Superbird, this car is a real Superbird with broadcast sheets that have the Nascar annotation on the broadcast sheet. The car does come with its original numbers matching 440 and the original numbers matching transmission. The body on the car is pretty solid except for the rust on the roof from the vinyl top and rust in the floors from water sitting, there is really no rust in the lower quarters, fenders or doors. I would say the rust that is in the car is from sitting and not from driving on roads with salt. The side glass is in really good shape, we are missing the passenger side quarter glass through. The rear glass is also in really nice shape, the stainless window molding is in really nice shape and can be polished back up to look brand new. And Dodge's Charger 500, despite its NASCAR-inspired tweaks, just wasn't getting the job done. In an attempt to one up Ford's slick and equally fast Torino, Chrysler went to the drawing board and began exploring aerodynamics. While aerodynamics wasn't a new concept, it had yet to be seriously studied by major auto manufacturers. And Chrysler's foray into the subject eventually culminated in testing full scale models at Lockheed Martin's North Carolina wind tunnel. Engineers quickly realized the benefits of a wind-cutting nose, but the real epiphany came when they employed a large rear stabilizer. Not only did that 'rocket nose' and 'park bench' spoiler combination create 'zero lift' downforce, it also produced immense directional stability, permitting speeds in excess of 200 MPH. Not surprisingly, Dodge's storied Daytona won the first race it competed in, and would eventually become one of the most successful NASCAR stock cars of all time. And Plymouth, looking to lure NASCAR star Richard Petty back into the fold, followed Dodge's impressive Daytona with the equally slippery, and some say better, Road Runner Superbird. When you take a close look at this super clean coupe, it seems only fitting that the car's entire 43 year existence was spent in the hands of one very meticulous owner. Purchased new by Ronald North of Huntington, Indiana, it's the recent beneficiary of a modern, two-stage paint job. Thanks to very little exposure to the elements, that unique body was a solid, all-original piece that needed nothing more than prep work. A correct layer of Alpine White presents exceptionally well and, when combined with matte horizontals and correct Superbird call-outs, creates iconic muscle car looks. And today, this Plymouth is one stunningly straight showpiece that has no gremlins, suffers no thin spots and displays a high level of fit and finish. As you step back and stare at this 'bird's sinuous body, many adjectives come to mind. Wicked... Astonishing... Dreadful... Infamous... But, in reality, Chrysler spent a lot of R&D time making sure the car fit one specific descriptor: functional. Every piece of this Road Runner was whittled to maximum efficiency in pursuit of one goal: lapping large race tracks at a very high rate of speed. Cooling is supplied by a big, 26-inch radiator, which utilizes pliable hoses and simple squeeze clamps to send water past fresh V-belts and rebuilt engine accessories. Power is provided by a tagged Mopar red cap battery, which is wired to a correct Chrysler voltage regulator. Aesthetically, the entire engine bay looks spectacular, from its new decals and Alpine White fenders to its old school fluid reservoir and clean Road Runner horn. And functionally, a quick turn of this Plymouth's ignition results in a rumbling, high-performance idle, hot or cold. Hoist this specialized B-Body and you'll find a fully sorted undercarriage that, thanks to an acute combination of low mileage and impeccable maintenance, rolls exactly the way it came down Lynch Road's assembly line. A clean layer of undercoating protects weather-free floorpans that, while exceedingly nice, certainly aren't a stranger to the blacktop. Behind the Super Commando mill, an original A727 Torqueflite, which wears a matching 162346 partial VIN, provides solid, poignant shifts through all three gears. That proven transmission sends power to an 8.75-inch Chrysler rear end which is equipped with correct 3.55 gears. At the front of the car, Chrysler's beefy Hemi suspension utilizes Cosmoline-replicating torsion bars, an A12 sway bar and standard power steering to make quick work of big bumps and tight curves. At the back of the car, that same Hemi suspension hangs correctly staggered springs at the sides of a painted, leak-free fuel tank. Stops come courtesy of standard power front disc and rear drum brakes. Exhaust is handled by aluminized tubes that bend around an H-pipe crossover, traditional turbo mufflers and correct stainless tips. And all this Mopar goodness rolls on pristine Rallye wheels which twist F60-15 Goodyear Polyglas GTs around subdued center caps and bright stainless trim rings. Inside this famous Plymouth, a completely original interior is clean, well-optioned and surprisingly stylish. Seating, an ultra-rare all-bench set up, displays no significant signs of wear. In front of those benches, a straight, crack-free dash hangs original factory gauges beside a familiar Music Master radio. At the bottom of that dash, well-maintained carpet is protected by rubber, "road runner" branded floor mats. At the sides of that carpet, original door panels carry the seat's silver stripe motif around black frames, dent-free stainless and traditional chrome hardware. Above those panels, old school shoulder belts frame a tight, black headliner. In front of the driver, a monochromatic steering wheel spins a silver horn ring around a cool Road Runner centerpiece. 1970 Plymouth Superbird Clone Any true Mopar fan can tell you of the importance of the Plymouth Superbird and what it did for the Chrysler Corporation. It was an amazing piece of automotive engineering well ahead of its time that surpassed many expectations. This is why it is one of the most sought after Mopar collector cars! True versions of this masterpiece are rare and fetch top dollar, three hundred thousand and more in some cases has been spent to acquire these beauties. Most of them are tucked away in private collections or museums to be preserved so future generations can see and learn the story of their great accomplishments. Very rarely is one seen on the road. That is where this car came in to play. What we have for sale here is more than your average clone or replica car. It all started with a 1970 Plymouth Satellite stripped completely down for a complete frame off restoration. It was then decided to make it a truly awesome car and what better than the Superbird. This car was built to be driven and enjoyed thoroughly while paying homage to the original masterpiece! It was meticulously built down to the very last detail, from the long front nose section to the enormous wing above the rear deck, and many others in-between, front fender scoops, road runner horn, woodgrain pistol grip shifter, Sublime Green paint job, etc As with all true muscle car enthusiasts we strive to make our cars the best they can possibly be. This is exactly has been done here, from the twin hood scoops badged HEMI that insure the beast lurking beneath gets all the fresh cool air it needs, to the moser 875 fully fabricated rear-end with trutrac posi to make sure the 31X18.50-15LT Mickey Thompson Sportsman Pro series tires transfer the massive power of this monster to the road it wants so desperately wants to shove from beneath it. The engine started as a 426 HEMI but was transformed into a truly magnificent mix of raw power and dependability. The engine was built up to a 472 HEMI with low enough compression to accept being force fed air and fuel by the procharger set up we installed on top of it. Ignition is handled by a full MSD system, 6AL, Pro Billet Distributor, Timing Control Module, and Rev Limiter. The fuel system is composed of Magnafuel and Aeromotive components with custom AN lines plumbed throughout and a 16 gallon fuel cell with sending unit. Exhaust is routed through a set of Dougs ceramic coated headers, a full 3 stainless with Magnaflow mufflers and electric cut outs. I must say that when you flip the switch to open the exhaust it sounds like you have released a Tyrannosaurus Rex! The cooling system was built to allow the car to be driven with confidence, from the aluminum radiator to the variable speed Flex-A- Lite fan system. The transmission is a TCI built torque flite unit transferring powers through the rearend nestled under a fully tubbed rear floor pan with a high enough gear ratio to cruise down the interstate comfortably yet still terrorize any asphalt it rolls across. The brakes have been upgraded to discs at all four corners with an electric over hydraulic master cylinder system that has no problems taming this monster. We also installed a stand-alone vacuum pump to handle proper functioning of the hidden headlights. This car can also be taken to the track and romped on for unbelievable enjoyment and done so confidently. The car is built with all certified components including a roll cage. This car is ready to go from the track to the car show and all roads between and enjoy some good tunes along the way thanks to the Pioneer sound system. This 1970 Plymouth Road Runner Super Bird tribute offers all the performance and jaw-dropping looks at a fraction of the price of a real one, and with a lot of authentic parts, even the pros might need to give this one a closer look before deciding if it's real. It's just too cool to own a car that was so fast it was outlawed, and that's a big part of the thrill of the Super Bird. This replica has exactly the right look, thanks to a genuine steel nose cone and towering rear wing, both of which were actually used on NASCAR-spec cars when they were new. Other little details that are correct include the vents on the fenders and the extended hood, not to mention the Petty Blue paint, which really is the only color for a Super Bird. The only possible demerit might be the lack of a vinyl top (all 'Birds used a vinyl top to hide the sloppy work needed to eliminate the tunnel-like rear window), but you have to admit that it looks ultra-clean without it. It does have all the correct markings a decals, which are a big part of the Super Bird look, and to be honest, this tribute car fits together better than many originals, which is a testament to the effort invested in the build. This was clearly a labor of love. The Super Bird had a standard Road Runner interior, and you could get any options you wanted, so finding buckets and a console is a nice treat here. The seat covers are recent and look great on the high-back buckets and there's nice woodgrain on the console that matches the steering wheel. The dash offers a full array of Rallye gauges, including a factory Tick-Tock-Tach, as well as a pair of auxiliary gauges underneath. You'll be surprised to see A/C on this one, a very cool addition to the features list, although it probably needs a recharge to be fully effective. An AM/FM/cassette stereo lives in the center of the dash, up high where it's easy to see, and the back seat looks almost new. The Super Bird's trunk is positively massive and includes a correct mat and space-saver spare with jack assembly, correct braces for the wing, plus the signatures of Richard Petty and Dave Inman. Too cool! The 440 cubic inch V8 was rebuilt to stock specs, and while it's not a Six-Pack, it does generate the kind of big torque that makes this Super Bird a blast to drive on the street. Nicely detailed and fairly stock looking, it's got a big dual-snorkel air cleaner up top, completely with reproduction decals, plus Hemi Orange paint and a set of finned valve covers for dress-up. A big radiator up front means this smooth V8 stays cool and with power steering and a TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic transmission, it's surprisingly easy to drive for something with this much speed potential. A recent dual exhaust snarls and cackles the way it should and the underside of the car is shockingly clean, albeit not detailed for show. There are no major deviations from stock, which means you get the real experience. And we love the plain-Jane steel wheels and poverty caps wrapped in fat 255/60/15 BFG radials for an industrial-strength look. Priced a Super Bird lately? Yeah, incredible. So if you want the feel and the gawking stares as you drive by, why not take this tribute for a spin instead. It's just as much fun for a lot less cash. The winning bidder is required to contact Streetside Classic Cars within 24 hours after the close of the auction to finalize the details of the transaction. 4. A $1,000 non-refundable deposit is required within 48 hours of the auction's close. This deposit reserves the vehicle and removes it from the market. Acceptable payment types for deposit are: credit card, wire transfer, cashier's check, and money order. 5. If winning bidder does not contact Streetside Classic Cars and submit deposit within 48 hours of auction close, vehicle may be made available to the next highest bidder or another qualified buyer on a first come, first serve basis. 6. Streetside Classic Cars has represented this vehicle to the best of its ability. Please be aware that all pre-owned vehicles, regardless of age, mileage, or manufacturer are subject to cosmetic wear and mechanical failure.
