1993 Plymouth Laser. The positive parts about the car is that it runs and drives, the interior is in reasonably good shape and the engine, transmission and clutch all work well. I have owned the car for 19 years and it has been incredibly reliable. The negatives are it has some rust. I tried to take pictures of the worst parts. Needs front end alignment as it is currently burning through tires fast. The synchros going into 2nd are not great, however they have been like that and have not gotten worse in the last 15 years. The rear hatch does not stay up on it's own, i keep a board in there to hold it up when i need to put things in the rear. Other than that it starts every time no matter the weather. This custom build has the 440 V8 heart of a true street-eating beast. This is also a very solid car which runs out excellent. One look at the floor pans, the laser straight body, and the glossy paint and you know you're dealing with a Barracuda that's a cut above the rest! Before we dive into the beastly side of this Barracuda, let's appreciate the first impression this car gives off. The pillarless hardtop is a staple of muscle car style. Plus, on the 1968 models we see the first hints at the iconic styling touches that would be exaggerated for the '70s 'Cudas like the power bulge in the hood and the wide, narrow rear bodywork. Actually, the fastback model outsold the hardtop coupes like this one in 1968, so there's even a rarity factor here. But above all, the restoration to this Barracuda has created such as laser-straight body that it's superior to anything that was coming out of Chrysler's Hamtramck factory in '68. Still, the first thing that attracts you to this coupe at first sight likely is the staggered stance and the period-correct American Racing Torq Thrust wheels. The interior is just like the exterior by being subtle and supple, and it would rather let the motor do the aggressive talking. The seats are an elegant white vinyl that's comfortable enough that this full-size Mopar can carry the whole family with dad and mom enjoying the high-back buckets up front. Chrysler stylists in the '60s were at the top of their game. Like the body, it's simple and unadorned, but the detailing and shapes are brilliant. A comprehensive set of gauges are easily visible through the slender steering wheel spokes. Everything looks amazingly original, and everything functions from the heat/defrost controls to the factory AM radio. But if you look towards the end of the center console, there's a hint at what this coupe is really about. Perched right where the driver can see it clearly is a new Autometer tachometer with large readout - a clear sign that there is some major power up front. Be prepared for shock and awe at plenty of car shows as you lift the hood and display the 440 cubic-inch big block V8 in this exceptionally tidy engine bay. Plymouth would offer the Formula S model with an optional 440 in 1969, but even that car did not have a six-pack like this one. So this custom build is about giving you the setup the factory wouldn't. But this more than just a monster motor with the perfect carburetor setup. This power plant has upgrades that include an MSD ignition, thermo-coated steel 440 crankshaft, 440 Six-Pack connecting rods, '70-71 Six Pack pistons (10.6 to 1 compression), and a Mopar Performance Six-Pack camshaft. It makes one heck of an intimidating rumble out of the H-pipe dual exhaust. This is connected to a modified version of Mopar's stout Torqueflight 727 three-speed automatic. The power is then sent to the Dana 60 Richmond rear end that's running a 3.73 ratio for great takeoffs. But of course power is nothing without control, and so this Barracuda comes with front disc brakes and Goodyear Eagle tires at all four corners. Cars with a clear purpose for dominating the streets rarely are this easy to live with. Up for sale is my 1st generation DSM Plymouth Laser. Most of you looking at this know it's identical to the Mitsubishi Eclipse and Eagle Talon. This vehicle had only two-owners...my father in law bought it new and sold it to me a few years ago. Since I've had it, I have done a lot of work to keep it in great mechanical condition and have included pictures of a lot of things. But if you have any questions, ask me. I have receipts for everything since the car was new...even gas! The vehicle is front-wheel drive and automatic transmission. It has power door locks, windows, and even keyless remote entry with a remote start that I had installed. The engine runs great, good power and great compression. The transmission shifts smoothly through all gears and overdrive works too. The paint is dull in a lot of places from the clear peeling off which is common for these years. And there is a little surface rust in some areas that you can see in the pictures. Car has brand new tires with less than 500 miles on them. I had the wheels sand-blasted and powder coated black for a factory finish. Then I searched the whole country for original hubcaps and installed those. The front and rear brake pads and rotors have all been recently replaced as well (within 2K miles). Under the hood I replaced the battery with a Bocsh, replaced the fuel and air filters, and replaced all the belts. I also removed the valve covers and replaced the gaskets because they started to leak. I replaced the spark plugs at the same time. Two of the motor mounts were replaced due to age (drying/cracking). The front suspension had an overhaul too. I replaced the front control arms, and all new bushings, ball joints, and sway-bar links were installed. Inside the car I reupholstered the headliner and rear shelf with factory material because they started to fade with the sun. I also replaced the radiator and flushed the coolant system. Pretty much the whole car is new. The only thing I didn't do is fix the A/C. I have the parts purchased already to fix it, but they are not installed. yet. I am an ASE Certified Technician for over 8 years and have been a Master Certified technician for Mercedes-Benz my entire career, so you know all the work is done right. Please ask any questions. This is an all original 56,000 mile, EV2 Tor Red, numbers matching 440 Six pack, 727 Torqueflite automatic Superbird that was plucked out of a dealer's inventory and set aside for over 30 years. With only over a little over 400 440 Six Pack automatic Birds produced out of a total of over 1400.....this is a rare car. This car was repainted about 8-10 years ago in its original color just to have the "new car look". Some guys like survivors, some guys like artwork.....it's all a taste thing. Let me start by saying that I am a Mopar collector and have owned many collector Mopars over the years. This is the cleanest, most original, and most precise Mopar that I have ever owned...and I have owned alot of them. Every detail is there, paint dabs, engine detail, markings underneath the car, etc. Sorry...no broadcast sheet, but it does have all matching body numbers, engine block VIN number, and original fender tag. I drive it to car shows and cruise-ins.....and that’s the only reason it's not "perfect". I believe they are meant to be driven. All original sheet metal and laser straight lines. Trunk is clean with no issues. The car has 56k original miles, so it was easy to keep it all together. Repainted 8-10 years ago in a fresh coat of its original EV2, orange paint....it looks awesome. They sprayed the bottom of the car and it looks as clean as the top. Just check out the pictures of the bottom. It's driven, so not a perfect A+, but easily an A grade. Engine/Tranny: Best part of the car, in my opinion......numbers matching, original 440 Six Pack is still in the car. All factory stock, even the manifolds. Take a close look in the pictures and you will see the original casting numbers. Period correct 727 Torqueflite automatic tranny. I'm a perfectionist, so I updated the engine bay to date coded wires, etc. All other stickers and factory markings are there. Hit the key and go...runs super smooth, it's reliable, and sounds awesome! Only an A due to only a period correct tranny. Driveline: Runs well. I replaced steering knuckle and lines to get smoother steering and it paid off. You can literally steer with your pointer finger now. Was switched over to Mopar electronic ignition before I bought the car. Has original Sure Grip rear end, factory gears, and gear tag are still in place on the rear end! A+ Interior: Clean, simple, and all there. No sagging headliner, etc. All gages, lights, and switches work. Headlights raise properly, dome light works, radio works, door ajar alarm works, etc. A Wheels and Tires: Brand new. classic BF Goodriches with proper wheel, rings, and lugnuts. B+ grade, only because I would go to Polyglass...but that's me. Please let me know that questions you have that I didn't cover....I'm sure I missed something. I'm not a Superbird pro, so I'm sure this car has an imperfection or two. With that said, this car's originality/drivability/reliability/color/engine combo make it a desirable car to add to your collection.
