Up for sale is a rare 1970 Plymouth Fury III with convertible top. This was the last year that Chrysler offered a full size convertible car until the early 80s. The car was specially ordered with a 383 2 bbl and torquflite automatic transmission. I purchased this Fury from the original owner this past summer after it had been sitting in his garage since 1990 following a complete paint job. He had the entire car painted, purchased a new top and carpets, but never got around to installing them. The new top and carpets come with the car. The convertible top pump and hardware is all intact. I had a lot of fun buying the car and kind of fell in love with the story behind it. It only has 84k miles. After I got it home, I put a battery in the car and verified the engine indeed turns over. The electrical system is in good working order as well. I did not want to suck old gas into the system, so that is as far as I went. I wanted to restore this car myself, but I lack time, space and the fabrication skills needed to rebuild it. The floor, which is the structure of the car, is in pretty nice shape as the pictures show. The main areas of concern are the front and rear unibody rails. The trunk floor is also in pretty good condition. The interior is pretty well preserved since nobody has sat in the car for a long time. I have the original build sheets with the car ( I found 3 of them in the car) and saw that it was a highly optioned car. There are a lot of factory remarks on the bottom of it. When I originally went to look at the car, it was interesting to hear the owner talk about every option the car had and why he chose to order it that way, especially the rare 383 engine. Most of all the Furys in 70 had smallblock 318 engines. Many of the externals on the 383 engine look to be original. I have the original hubcaps, grill, replacement top, replacement carpets, and full interior. All this car needs is a good craftsman to give it the life it deserves. The stainless steel trim and glass are in exceptional condition as well. The bumpers are not perfect but are not rusty at all. It really needs a good metal man. You wont need to track down hard to find parts, because this car is complete. Since the car was last registered in 1990, so it is no longer in the DMV records database. Cars made prior to 1973 did not receive titles, and simply had a sticker on the license plate as well as the paper copy. I have the most current sticker and the license plate, but the paper copy has long been lost. I will provide a bill of sale with the car and the bill of sale I received from the original owner. The new owner should contact their local DMV and obtain the proper forms to register the vehicle in their state. A fellow Mopar nut told me that the front turn signals on this car are the same as the ones used on the superbird making them worth a few bucks. After hearing this, I thought about parting the car out, but I really want to see it go to a good home. These cars are getting rare and I do not want to contribute to their extinction. How often do you see a Fury done up and look this good? Personally I NEVER have! This is an NUMBERS MATCHING car. The body is in pretty good condition and lines are crisp all though it does have a couple waves a pictures show and price does reflect that. The panel gaps are all great and the doors shut with confidence. No need to slam them or anything weird like that. The paint is pretty good as well, the trunk lid may have a little dust trapped in it but it is barely noticeable. The clear coat is very good and as pictures and video both show this car reflects images very well! The bumpers all shine true and bright right along with the trim as well. The headlight have been tinted and give the front a nice added aggressive look! All of the glass is in great condition and is tinted as well! The staggered American Racing wheels give it a nice aggressive stance and make it look incredible! The rear is equipped with air shocks as well so you can set it down a bit if you would like. All that is need for that Pro-touring look is some disc brakes! The interior is almost all new! The seats appear to have never been sat on and look incredible. The headliner is nice and tight and shows NO signs of wear. The carpet is all new and has no stains or rips. The dash mat appears to be brand new without any UV damage. The gauges are SUPER clear and you will have NO issues trying to read them! A Kicker Bluetooth integrated stereo system has been added and the sound quality is really nice! It was a nice touch of modern style added to a cool classic! The engine bay is nice and clean just like the rest of this car. The 383 four barrel runs like a champ and starts well. The automatic transmission shifts through every gear with NO hesitation or issues in any way. This car sounds incredible and pulls great through every gear as well. Chrysler intended the Fury to be a sporty premium priced model which showcased Plymouth’s unique styling and features. 1967 was the Fury’s fourth generation of production and was now offered three different equipment packages that better suited their customers financial and comfort desires. These packages ranged from Fury I to Fury III, with the first being the least expensive and least equipped and the Fury III being the most expensive and equipped. The Fury III package offered every luxury accessory that Plymouth offered; an automatic transmission, power steering, whitewall tires, stereo radio, power convertible top, and air-conditioning. Still retaining the original build sheet from the Chrysler plant in St. Louis, this Fury was originally sold in sunny California and comes with a copy of the original title as well as its California black plates! Exterior – The light blue paint is in fantastic condition, sure to impress at any car show! Professionally repainted in 2013 in the original factory color of light blue, code DD1, this dry climate car retains all of its original sheet metal which required no cutting or patching, one of the many benefits inherent in cars from dry climates. Paint is a high quality 2 stage base/clear finish that shows extremely well. Both front and rear chrome bumpers are in great condition, as well as the other chrome trim pieces too. The white power convertible top performs its function well without hesitation, and is in great condition. Interior – The blue vinyl seats are in very good shape with no major tears or worn spots. According to the owner, this Fury has benefited from new carpeting and seat upholstery thus resulting in a fantastic overall interior appearance. All gauges are in good working order along with the factory A/C which blows cold. The steering wheel does have some cracking to it, but is original.
