Up for auction is this beautiful 2003 Maserati Spyder. I am selling it regretfully because I need to downgrade to a practical small car. My intention was to trade it for a Fiat 500 and I still have that option, but I thought I would try Ebay first. I took it to the local Maserati dealer and they gave it a thorough checking over and found that it had no evidence of any bodywork or paint work. They found that it had a good service history at a Virginia Maserati dealer and were impressed with its mechanical condition. They noted the sticky buttons (happens to ALL of them)-cosmetic and easily fixed. In addition to sticky buttons, these 4200 Maseratis are known to eventually need a new heater core. This was recently replaced and it also got a new clutch, flywheel, F1 sensor, and thrust bearing. It had a complete fluid service in March of this year and only has 1000 miles since. The Michelin Pilot Sports have plenty of tread remaining. The previous owner spent huge money on suspension, brake, and exhaust mods. I think it was money well spent as it handles like a slot car and the sound it makes is truly awe-inspiring! The car is cosmetically very nice, but it does have a few small scratches and the driver seat has a scuffed area on the side bolster. The convertible top looks like new but for a small wear spot from raising and lowering. They all do it. He was very accomodating with respect to meeting to test the car and also allowed me to drive the car to my mechanic for a more thorough inspection. Val was very forthcoming about this cars problems and defects that he was aware of. He had even contacted the previous owner to obtain the radio security code (for some reason, the original Volvo code was no longer valid). Given that the car is 10 years old and due for scheduled maintenance, there were some substantial repair bills in the immediate future for the next owner. I brought this up with Val and he was very professional in his response. We were able to negotiate a price based on this. Overall, this was a good car buying experience. If Val is still doing this in 10 years when my Volvo dies, I'll check out his inventory again.
