Thank for your reading my posting carefully. I would like this sale to be a pleasant experience for both of us however, it is impossible to list every detail, mechanical, or body related. The truck is sold as is, not warranty implied, or offered. Please keep in mind that she is 45 years old and as such she may present unknowns at any time. I will make every effort to highlight as much as I know about my truck, but feel free to ask me questions. This is not a showroom condition vehicle with a frame up restoration, but it is a beautiful example of the late 60s, early 70s era, when American pickups were a true reason to be proud of American engineering. She spent all her life in Colorado and wasn’t driven from the late 80s, until I bought it in 2013. I need to make room for a family car, so I need to let her go and I am doing it with a heavy heart, but hopefully she ends up with someone who takes as good a care of her as I did. I do have a clear Colorado title in my name. The overall condition of the truck is great, but again, it is not showroom, regardless of how nice it looks in the pictures. I have close to $20,000 invested in it, not to mention my time. I am not sure how many miles it has on it. The odometer reads 26630, but it only shows 5 digits, so it may have turned once already. As far as the mechanical condition is concerned, I would not hesitate to drive it cross country anytime. I am not aware of any immediate repairs it would need, other than a small oil leak in the back of the engine and a pinion seal. Cold starts require some pumping on the gas, but once warm it starts at first crank. It has a 4speed manual transmission and 4 low and high gears. First gear is a granny gear. The hubs are manually locking. The bed is 8ft. The engine runs great, does not smoke, or burn oil, but visually it is not sexy. I never had it rebuilt as it was in great shape. The shifting is smooth and all gears work fine. The choke is automatic. The truck does not have A/C, but they make aftermarket A/Cs for it if needed. This is a list of parts and Mechanical repairs that were done to the truck: · All leaf springs and shocks are new · New wheels · Tires have about 8000 miles on them · Front breaks are converted to disc. Discs and pads and hoses are new · Drive shaft bearings are replaced · Power steering gear box is new · Steering shaft rebuilt · New alternator · Rebuilt radiator · Break master cylinder rebuilt · 2 New batteries added · New valve cover gaskets · New differential gaskets · New wiper motor · New windshield fluid pump · New thermostat and radiator hoses · Tuned distributor · New spark plugs and fuel filter · New rear brake pads · Rear drums serviced · New e-brake wires · New mufflers and exhaust pipes This is a list of body repairs and parts installed and anything noteworthy about the body of the truck · The truck was painted, it looks nice, but it is not a first class paint job, please do not expect perfection on the paint front. For showroom condition, it would need a sanding and a paint job. · Inside the cab, above the rear window, the body was repaired and there are two holes drilled, probably for a shotgun rack. · Hood has a small penny size dent, · The driver side door has a bulge from the inside, looks like it is from a window crank malfunction · The cab corner panels were repaired, but it is not perfect · Small penny size minor dents on back of the cab, below and above the rear window · The hood had a small dent where the GMC sign is. It was not repaired well and imperfections and a couple of chips are showing around the GMC sign · The paint on the roof was rubbed when I put a truck camper on the truck last year, so the roof needs paint repair. No dents that I am aware of · Cab floor had some rust, it was cut out, patch welded with steel and rust proofed, but it never had a new cab floor installed. The total area of the rust was about 2 sqf. · No active major rust that I am aware of as of today · New windows (front and back, not side) · New door seals · New hood hinges · New tailgate and tailgate hinges · New tail light lenses and signals · All new chrome emblems · Repaired bed bottom, cut out about a 2sqf size area and replaced it with new parts · Bed lined with Line-x · All new chrome trim, grille, lights, molding · New mirrors · Added head rests for safety · Reupholstered bench seat · New carpet · New cab floor sound proofing · New dash · New instrument face panel · New headliner, rearview mirror and visors · New rocker panels · New stereo installed under the dash to leave original intact · The original radio turns on, it worked for a while, but now its all static. It can probably be repaired · All dash lights work · The interior light is currently disconnected from electricity, but otherwise it works. · Frame is solid, no structural rust, or damage based on multiple mechanics’ review. I've owned this truck for 3 years now, stored indoors, using seasonally. Original intention was to prepare it as another two rig... but time is not permitting. This truck IS as good as it looks in the pictures. With exception of a minor issue on each rear cab corner, the cab itself is rust free. Usual rust in lower rear fenders, as seen in photos. Top fronts of fenders are the best you will ever see. However, it IS 56 years old, so there are expected minor dents. ect. Paint is original. Tires are 700 18 summer tread. Engine is a hydraulic cam 261 with 68,000 miles on it. Truck has 75,000. Odd thing is, the odometer works, the speedo needle is stuck. Unfortunately, the hydraulic pump for the hoist, has a horrific leak, and thus, the hoist is not really operational at the moment. Rear gear ratio has been changed from 5.14 to 4.10. It's a simple answer, and the kind of thinking you'd probably expect behind such a wonderfully uncomplicated machine. This pristine 100's head-turning appeal comes courtesy of a 4-year, frame-off restoration that sealed a solid Georgia body in fantastic Narva Green pigment. That pigment, PPG acrylic urethane enamel founded on 100% sandblasted sheetmetal and PPG epoxy primer, was correctly highlighted with hand-painted gold pin striping. And everything adds up to one clean, acutely detailed classic that's been finished to 100% show worthy standards! As the Korean War strained supplies of nickel and copper, metals essential to the chrome plating process, most GM trucks began leaving the factory with fully painted surfacing. In addition to making pickups like this GMC true 'plain Jane' builds, that treatment underscored the offerings' utilitarian nature and eventually increased collectability. At the front of this 100, a color-keyed grille hangs bright "GMC" lettering between a black bumper, fresh headlights and small, white-trimmed parking lamps. Behind that grille, a split windshield leads a 'six footer' cab that's framed in small visors, polished stainless wipers and a color-keyed driver's mirror. Beneath that mirror, stylized door handles ride between correct hood emblems, a locking fuel filler and black running boards. And at the back of those boards, a "GMC" branded tailgate centers painted Yellow Pine planks between sleeved chains, chrome-trimmed tail lamps and an optional bumper. ENGINE Peer in to the truck's super clean engine bay and you'll find a correct, 228 cubic inch 6-cylinder that's been completely rebuilt and fully detailed. Designed from the ground up to be a tough-as-nails workhorse, and serving as primary GMC power for well over a decade, this stalwart mill is a favorite among vintage GM truck fans because of its simple design, adequate power and excellent durability. And, with the exception of carefully updated electronics, pretty much everything on the block has been returned to intentional, factory-spec simplicity. At the top of the engine, a small Zenith carburetor mixes air, supplied by a dressed cleaner, with fuel that's piped through fresh stainless fluid lines. That carb rides on a cast, factory-spec intake, which floats above a cast, factory-spec exhaust manifold. Opposite that manifold, a tagged Delco-Remy distributor sequences fire between fresh plug wires, a stealthy YnZs Yesterdays Parts harness and a 12-volt Delco-Remy generator. An original, re-cored radiator provides cooling with the help of a stock pulley fan. And items like a Delco-Remy starter, a color-keyed, "GMC" branded valve cover and a full assortment of decals ensure the bright orange powerplant is very impressive to look at. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION During restoration, considerable research was conducted to make sure this 100 is as period correct as possible. And when you crawl under the truck, body-matched floors and a Satin Black frame highlight a roster of factory-spec components that appear to have never seen the slightest hint of inclement weather. Power meets the pavement through a Saginaw 3-speed, which is tied to a 10-bolt rear end that spins big, 4.11 gears. Correct leaf springs and big drum brakes occupy all four corners of the chassis, mixing rugged road prowess with firm and solid stops. A standard, single-pipe exhaust system runs the entire length of the truck. And everything rolls on 6.50-16 B.F Goodrich Silvertowns, which lap correct, stripe-less wheels and correctly painted hubcaps. INTERIOR GMCs of this era were honest, no nonsense trucks marketed directly at farmers who didn't really want, and generally couldn't afford, superfluous frills. And nowhere is that sentiment more apparent than inside the cab. For starters, the slick body's Narva Green paint is snuffed in favor of a calming tan hue; which spreads from a correctly painted dash to the roof, window frames and a stylish, red-trimmed steering wheel. A correct bench seat, restored with custom SMS trim and correct synthetic horsehair padding, combines with correct side panels to highlight a brand of nostalgic utilitarianism that's no longer found in showroom-fresh offerings. Beneath that seat, a heavy-duty floor mat disappears behind a factory heater. An optional rearview mirror joins Juliano's 3-point seatbelts to greatly improve safety. And everything, from the truck's original telemetry to its mirrored door handles, is restored, sorted and ready to roll. I found this rust free 1981 GMC in the California Central Valley. I live on the coast near Pismo Beach and we see a lot of rust in vehicles around here because of the salt air. I was very glad to find this little Jimmy without any rust. I always liked the lowered stepside pickups with a huge set of tires under them. This one was a fleetside and I think the previous owner drove by braille. The right side of the bed was all caved in from bouncing off of whatever got in his way. He did tag the lower right door lightly, but the dent popped right out. It was not easy to find a GMC stepside bed but lo and behold there is one on it now. It is the same as a Chevy, except for the tailgate anyway. I had planned to use a bumper from an El Camino or may be a station wagon that has the tail lights in it already so there is no rear bumper at the moment. The interior was switched to green, possibly by the same blind guy, that ran into everything. It is hideously ugly and I was already committing a couple of paychecks to the LMC truck parts catalog to rid myself of the green. The old gal runs half way decent, at the moment. The 250 CID straight 6 cylinder engine and the 3 speed manual transmission both work just fine, but were not in my plan to keep. I was hoping to install a nice small block Chevy with a Car 4 speed to make a little hot rod out of it. In my rush to get started on the project I guess I completely spaced on the California smog laws and that put a damper on my plans. So I have decided to look for a 1975 or older truck that doesn't need to be smogged and let this one go. Maybe you live in a state that you can actually follow through with my plan. Or just drive her the way she is. THE TIRES AND BRAKES ARE GOOD. THE CLUTCH LETS OUT JUST BARELY OFF OF THE FLOOR SO YOU MUST BE SURE IT IS ALL OF THE WAY IN.THE MUFFLER IS BRAND NEW TOO! I have a California title in my name. The truck will not currently smog, in California, due to a part for the choke being broken on the carburetor. I have located another carburetor for $100.00 if needed. This is a no frills truck no power steering, no power brakes, no A/C, but it does have see thru windows and rotating tires, summer heating and winter air conditioning if that's any consolation. I can deliver the truck for $1.00 per mile round trip up to 200 miles or so. Or I can assist (loading/unloading) with shipping.
