1961 Austin Healey 3000 BT7 This is a stunning Austin Healey 3000 that we are selling for the owner of the past 43 years. He bought this car in 1971 and after being a daily driver for many years it was taken off the road in 1979 for an engine rebuild. That led to a full restoration that was completed in 2002. It wears its original factory color of Healey Blue with the very attractive Ivory side panels. It is a great combination. The engine and transmission were fully rebuilt and have only an estimated 8000 miles on them. After the running gear was redone the car was used very little and then taken apart for a restoration that was to last many years. Finally completed in 2002 the car was shipped to California where it has been driven and enjoyed since. It runs very well and the overdrive works perfectly. The brakes are great and the wheels and tires are new in the past 2 years. All suspension parts were rebuilt. It is a super driving car that is fully sorted and driven regularly for club events and shows. It starts easily with the choke and runs cool. Steering is taut and it is a pleasure to drive. Numbers for the car are: VIN HBT7L / 9645, Body 3050 BT7L 9976, Engine 29D/RU/H15849 The body and paint on this car are excellent. The panels are straight and the paint has been polished to perfection. During restoration the sills were replaced. Floors are original and are in great shape and rust free. Panel gaps are good and the doors open, close and fit very well. The interior was fully redone in 2002 and looks like new. It is in a light color to keep cool in California sun. It has the rear seating which of course makes it a BT7. The carpets are blue and are Wilton wool. The top and tonneau are like new. All the dash instruments are excellent and function as new. For more photos please go to: share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=0AYtGrNk3ctWLJMA We have extensive photo documentation of the restoration and have shown a photo of the owner when he purchased the car in 1971. We are lucky those pants are no longer in style although I remember having a pair too! All in all this is a fabulous and thorough restoration and a long term ownership of a very nice driving Austin Healey BT7. It is ready to drive and enjoy. It is available for viewing and driving here in Ventura by appointment. It is currently registered and has clear California title. I have been asked if I will aid in shipping to a purchaser in Europe and the answer is yes. I have used Schumacher Cargo Logistics before with very good service to Antwerp or London or France. I can deliver the car to them in Los Angeles with all appropriate paperwork. We have the car advertised elsewhere and reserve the right to remove it from ebay. Thank you for your interest! Replacing the popular 100 series, the Mark I was built from 1959 to 1961 after which the Mark II was released. Two models were available, this one being the BT7 2 2 and the other being strictly the BN7 2 seater. During this first run, just 13,650 cars were produced of which a much smaller handful exists today. Although straight line acceleration was not that of today's modern car, the early Healey excelled in handling and had a rather brisk top speed of 115 MPH. This Healey underwent a frame-off restoration in 2004 and has travelled just over 15,000 miles. Since the Healey has had its legs stretched regularly, it can be considered significantly more reliable that most garage queens and is quite a blast around town and enjoyable on the open highway as well. The car has been retrofitted with a modern 5-speed overdrive transmission which is excellent out on the highway while providing smooth shifting through the lower gears. The engine and the rest of the drivetrain was rebuilt during the restoration and the twin SU carbs perform as expected.  The paint is a two stage base/clear refinish and the interior is comprised of a mix of good condition original and new parts. Accompanying the car is the original hard top and the soft top as well.  For the Healey enthusiast looking to hit the open road, this car is an excellent little runner and will provide good times to be had for all. Factory overdrive, dry Texas car, previous long term ownership, show quality repaint, new tires, polished stainless steel exhaust, roll-up windows, new top, over $38,000 invested recently, copious maintenance records.THE VEHICLE OFFEREDThis Big Healey is a great example of one of the 5,450 MkII BJ7 models produced. Fitted with the desirable factory overdrive, it is a very solid, dry Texas car recently out of the collection of its knowledgable long-term owner who not only loved this car but also kept copious maintenance records documenting his fastidious care over the years. Its body is incredible, with original factory paint in the engine compartment, its chassis and undercarriage, and the car benefits from a fresh, proper rebuild of its original engine, transmission, factory overdrive unit, and the complete fuel, braking and clutch systems by the appropriate specialists. The car has also recently benefited from a show-quality repaint in its original and stunning Colorado Red color, new tires on restored correct painted wire wheels, a polished stainless steel Tourist Trophy exhaust and full service; the vehicle performs as good as it looks. In total there are over $40,000 of receipts for recent work, along with a comprehensive file from its previous owner. It is a car that has been made to drive not be rolled in and out of trailers. These Big Healeys are incredibly fun and iconic British sports cars that, when equipped with overdrive and fully sorted as this car is, are wonderful high-speed touring machines. These later BJ7 models have tolerable weather protection with roll up windows and snug fitting tops, confidence inspiring disc brakes and very capable handling along with an exhaust note to die for. Parts are readily available and inexpensive, and the club support is phenomenal. All things considered there is no question why all the experts consider a proper Big Healey to offer tremendous value in today’s market. Beyond that, this car in particular is an outstanding example which also offers the benefit of a recent, no-expense spared thorough restoration and is in truly turn-key condition. It offers the driving experience these cars are famous for, with none of the deferred maintenance problems that arise when they don’t come from good, caring homes.HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE Introduced in March 1961 as the BN7 Mark II (2-seat) and BT7 Mark II (2+2), the 3000 Mark II series came with three SU HS4 carburettors and an improved camshaft. However, the triple SUs proved difficult to balance and were replaced with two SU HS6 upon the introduction of the BJ7 (2+2) model in January 1962. With its debut the BN7 Mark II was discontinued in March 1962, and the BT7 Mark II in June 1962.Other changes included a vertical barred front grille, wind-up windows instead of side curtains, an improved hood, and a wrap-around windscreen. Optional extras were similar to the Mark I, although the factory hardtop option was dropped with the BJ7’s introduction. From August 1961 a brake servo was also available as an optional extra, which greatly improved braking performance. The BJ7 was discontinued in October 1963 with the introduction of the 3000 Mark III.A 3000 Mark II BT7 with hardtop and overdrive tested by the British magazine The Motor in 1961 had a top speed of 112.9 mph (181.7 km/h) and could accelerate from 0–60 mph (97 km/h) in 10.9 seconds.A total of 11,564 were made: 355 BN7 Mark II, 5,096 BT7 Mark II, and 6,113 BJ7. A Swiss motoring publication (Auto-Jahr) had had a competition to redesign the 3000 as a closed roof grand tourer, and the winning design was executed by Pininfarina just in time for the October 1962 Earls Court Show.Click here for additional photographs.Click here for a walk around video.Call Max. 208-720-8854Visit www.modernclassicautos.com for dealer information. Factory Left Hand Drive - Finished in Metallic Red and Pearl White - This version has 2-carburators - Superb color combination. In May of 1961 BMC upgraded their flagship model with three SU HS4 carburetors, modified valve springs and a new camshaft. Called the MKII, it was an alternative to the Triumph TR3A or Jaguar E-Type. The MKII was initially offered as an occasional 4-seat roadster called the BT7. This version uses flat front windscreens and detachable side curtains in the style of a roadster. The rear panel of the BT7 was cut out much deeper towards the truck to make room of the small jumper seats in the rear. The Healey was owned and worked on since 1968 by my dad. He took great care of this car in his collection and drove her only on nice weather days. CONDITION EXTERIOR: This Healey is not a concours or mint restored car. The Healey has beautiful chrome and the paint is also in nice condition. CONDITION INTERIOR The interior looks very nice and the seats. White Trim with Red Vinyl Seats and dash, Red Carpet. I was going to purchase an interior kit and have it installed for the summer to match the impressive condition of the exterior. All meters on the dashboard are working correctly. DRIVING EXPERIENCE: When the key of the Healey is turned, the engine starts easily and it become immediately clear that the engine is running very strong. The power in the car is amazing, even as the handling. As is often the case with classic cars of the era, they can be a bit weak in steering but this car is driving impressively straight. The transmission shifts very well with good syncros, both when warm and cold. The brakes are excellent as well. This specific Healey is a very impressive example to drive around with. For more information or an appointment, please call Robert Watson or send an e-mail to [email protected]. Please do not hesitate to contact us by phone during evenings or in the weekend. The car is currently located in Anderson, CA. This car has been driven enough to keep it running smoothly.
