This 1997 Aston Martin DB7 Volante was custom ordered as a factory “one off” finished in Rolls Royce Aegean Blue, with custom leather interior, in white with blue accents. While I can't say if any of the other 1997 cars were Special ordered, but This car has a special Plate mounted on the driver's side of the engine that reads part number: "SPE 7174 Issue 01" Serial Number: "JM/TWR 04753 IMI Part Number D2551-4A Issue E." I believe that this I.D plate denotes that this car was the first and possibly only car to be special ordered that that year. The engine is basically a de-tuned racing motor, ( According to what I have read) coupled with an Eaton Supercharger producing 335 BHP and 361-pound feet of torque. This combination allows this car to make 60 MPH in six seconds or less, power delivery a seamless rush that continues all the way to almost 170 MPH. You have your choice of normal or sport setting for the transmission located next to the electric seat switches.I became the owner of this beautiful car, after admiring it for many years at the shows I attended. It always won something, such as 1st Place Aston Martin: San Diego British Car day, 2007, 1st Place Aston Martin: English Motors at Fairbrook Farms, 2009, 1st place Aston Martin: English Motors at Fairbrook Farms, 2010. If you have an interest in sharing this rare beauty at shows, you will be greeted by an endless crowd of car lovers, many with Aston Martin stories of their own. I knew the owner from my membership in The Austin Healey Club of Southern California, and when he decided to sell the car, I purchased it straight away. While driving the car, he had burst a water hose and was towed to Aston Martin of Newport Beach. The hose was replaced, along with the water pump, the radiator flushed and refilled, and sent on its way.The friend I would later purchase the car from seemed to think he could hear a low growling from the engine bay, and took it to his regular mechanic, and the head pulled to look for the source of the noise. After a week of checking everything, the mechanic could find nothing wrong with the engine at all. No blown head gasket, (which I have retained for your inspection), no evidence of any damage whatsoever. The head had already been sent out for inspection to a local engine shop but the answer was the same; after stripping and checking the head for any cracks, unevenness between cylinders, or anything unusual, nothing. Even the valve seals showed nominal wear. everything checked out fine. The Culprit? the supercharger. It had become gradually noisier, and due to its design, which starts to show up at about 30,000mi. On these cars, it had worn the internal needle valve, causing the growling. We would find out later that small pieces in the supercharger spinning at high speed, along with the worn Needle Valve, was the source of the noise. before you ask why the mechanic did not pull the supercharger belt to eliminate it as a possible cause of the noise, he did, but spinning the supercharger with an air gun, was not the same as the engine being under load. At this point, doing a full valve job and replacing the supercharger would be a no brainer; But what to do about the engine? With just over 50,000 miles on the clock, and no damage whatsoever evident, what to do? I made the decision in the interest of performance, to rebuild the entire top end of the engine, and have a full valve job performed. I used all genuine Aston Martin Parts, and I spared no expense getting it right. I could have just had the head reinstalled and replaced the supercharger and gone on my way, but since the head was already off, and I wanted to maintain the level of performance I was used to from this car, the decision to rebuild the top end was easy. Not inexpensive, but just the right thing to do. This is why I prefer to buy a classic or exotic car from someone in a car club, because to us, these are more than just another exotic or special interest car; they are a part of the past, that we have the privilege of driving and taking to car shows, to show to Aston Martin lovers as well as the younger generations. After the engine was done, using all genuine Aston Martin parts, the cooling system was flushed, both thermostats replaced, along with all needed hoses and belts. The car ran even better than ever, so now I began to research how best to replace the supercharger. A new one would have the same problem as the old one, so the decision was made to send the unit to Jon Bond Performance for a complete rebuild, (jonbondperformance.com) using a larger, stronger main needle valve, genuine Aston Martin parts and a host of other proprietary parts, and services developed in-house. Not only would insure this rebuild offer better performance& longevity, but actually reduce the heat produced by the supercharger by approx. 30%, which also translates into a resultant drop in engine running temp. If you have ever been involved in a project like this, one thing leads to another, so I had a local shop, Raging Bull, redo the suspension as needed, and used British Performance to replace the newly rebuilt supercharger, and do the final tune up, and reset all codes and download all new firmware to the system. The car was run through California's rigorous smog certification process, and passed with flying colors, even given California’s stringent smog enforcement. The gentleman I purchased the car from has always had the car detailed every month, and kept in a garage for storage, I took the car to my detailer who preps cars for shows, and had the paint cleaned and buffed, and the interior cleaned to as new condition as possible. Looking at the photographs, you will see that due to the depth and quality of the paintwork, the car glows in the sun, and mirrors the reflections of passing trees & the sky above the hood. Although I am selling the car to pay off medical bills from Bone Cancer, I still made the decision to bring this car up to as new condition as possible, so the next owner could enjoy it the same way I have. The car comes complete with excellent copies of the two bound shop manuals and the parts manual that Aston Martin provides with all of these cars. If you are looking at one of these cars that does not come with them, they are can be expensive, and hard to replace. Aside from the fact that these books are also absolutely essential for your reference as well for your mechanic, They are full of excellent information available nowhere else besides the factory or dealerships and will guide you for any future maintenance. Ian Cullen, who designed the DB7, along with Keith Helfet, styled the gorgeous body. Ian Cullen had been head of the styling department of Ghia in Turin, before working with Aston Martin. Tools and books are included, and the car even comes with an umbrella from Aston Martin, something they provide to this day. It even comes with a rare James Bond T Shirt given away by Sony Pictures & Ericson (presumably to promote a James Bond Movie) and the car comes with one of these hard to find little bits of history. The car is equipped with LO/JACK, which can be activated in your name for about $65.00. There may be other minor costs as well, but for the protection the system provides, it is very inexpensive insurance, indeed. All information for activation will be provided to the buyer. The car comes with comprehensive records, a must-have when it comes time to sell one of these exotics. Also Included is a battery refresher and a custom California Cars Cover with the Lic# Stitched on the front, and reflective seams along all sides. This same model car was just profiled and named in the June 2015 edition of Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car, and to loosely quote the article, " Considering Aston Martin's international reputation-coveted by all-and how 1980s Vantage and Volante values are spiking, this beautiful hand-built exotic has nowhere to go but up.” (in price) The general consensus is that like the 308-328 Ferraris, which have almost tripled in value in the last two years, this car has been undervalued, but is already starting to trend upwards. If you are looking for a turn-key show winner that also offers the added benefit of possible considerable future appreciation, according to market experts, and runs and looks as close to new as possible, this might be your car. I will entertain a partial trade of a 1985 or earlier Land Rover in good mechanical shape, some TLC no problem. Engine: Compression: (as of two weeks ago) 170 lb. /in the maximum allowable variance between cylinders is 10lb. /in. +- (factory is 170lbs. /in.) 335BHP, 3,239cc 24 valve inline six cylinder engine with Weber-Marelli fuel injection and liquid cooled Eaton supercharger, four speed automatic gearbox, four wheel independent suspension links. Air conditioning: Approximately 62 degrees F depending on ambient temperature. (and no it does blow ice cubes, as the entire A/C system would freeze)California Emission Standards: Passed 100% Results accompany the records. These Cars are very sensitive to tire pressure and tire compounds. I am currently running Michelin Pilot Sport 245/40/ZR 18 tires with a medium compound that does give a stiffer ride, but tend to last longer than a tire with a really sticky compound. You may find the ride stiffer on poor pavement and if so, you may want to go to a softer compound. I run these tires at 29 psi with Nitrogen. It really is personal preference, depending on variables such as your weather, roads, and if this is a weekend only-car or something you will use for longer trips. It is amazing to drive up the coast to the wine country with the top down and the A/C on and no wind buffeting your face due to the wind blocker installed in the back of the car. All tools, books, all original items are included along with comprehensive records. The car has one master key and remote. I will pay for a replacement key if you do find the other one in the car. You are responsible for any programming costs for the single key, if needed. ATRecycle store My wife just received her new Corvette Convertible and is ready to sell her DB7. Woman owned, this nice example of a clean car is ready for her next home. I bought this for her about 3+ years ago, and she has probably only driven it 500 miles or so. It came from a garage in Las Vegas area and was all cared for. This is not a car needing a lot of things to make it a nice car, this is a nice car just needing a couple small items to be a perfect car. Driver Mirror has a small crack, the factory audio system works great but the little digital display is missing a couple characters in it so it is difficult to read. This car is un molested in any way, has never been in a wreck or been repaired and has been lovingly driven and used and shows light wear... leather is very good to near perfect, and top is in great condition. The top boot is OK at best, I mean it is in good cosmetic condition but is a crappy design if you ask me, so we just left it off most the time. the car if it meets an acceptable offer will come with a hard bound copy of the factory service manuals, not photo copies, the real deal in the binders, with 2 sets of keys with remote and the factory red key as well.... If you are looking for a great example of a nicely equipped DB7 well taken care of, then look at this car.
