UP FOR AUCTION IS A VERY RARE 1969 AMC AMX 390-4SPEED "GO PACK" CAR. I WAS TOLD THIS WAS THE ORIGINAL DRIVE-TRAIN BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER BUT HAVE NOT VERIFIED THIS. IT IS A TRUE 390 4-SPEED CAR AND YOU CAN TELL BY DECODING THE VIN NUMBER. THIS CAR IS A DRIVER AND IT RUNS AND DRIVES VERY WELL, LOTS OF POWER. IT IS A GREAT CANDIDATE FOR A THOROUGH RESTORATION BUT CAN ALSO BE USED AS A RESPECTABLE DRIVER AS IT'S MORE THAN ROAD WORTHY. IT HAS BEEN USED AS A DRIVER FOR THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS. IT IS PLEASANT TO DRIVE WITH POWER STEERING AND POWER FRONT DISC BRAKES. COSMETICALLY THERE A FEW RUST SPOTS THAT COULD BE ADDRESSED WHICH ARE PICTURED. BOTTOM OF THE DRIVERS DOOR, BEHIND THE REAR DRIVER WHEEL ON THE QUARTER PANEL, SMALL SPOT ON REAR QUARTER ON PASSENGER SIDE ALSO, AND ALSO A SPOT ON TOP OF THE DRIVER SIDE QUARTER NEAR THE TRUNK LID. THE TRUNK HAS A FEW SMALL SPOTS BUT IS PRETTY SOLID. THE DOORS SHUT EXCEPTIONALLY WELL AND HAVE GREAT GAPS. THE ROCKER PANELS ARE SOLID AS WELL AS THE UNDERCARRIAGE. THERE HAVE BEEN A FEW PATCHES UNDERNEATH. THE INTERIOR IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. THE FRONT SEATS ARE NOT ORIGINAL HOWEVER THE ORIGINAL BUCKETS ARE INCLUDED, THEY NEED TO BE REUPHOLSTERED. THE DOOR PANELS AND DASH ARE IN GREAT SHAPE. CARPETING IS NEW AND IN EXCELLENT SHAPE. SPEEDOMETER AND FACTORY TACHOMETER STILL FUNCTION PROPERLY. STEERING WHEEL HAS IT'S USUAL CRACKS. THE HURST SHIFTER IS ORIGINAL AND CORRECT FOR THIS APPLICATION. 1969 "Schofield: AMX #08962 1st time offered for sale in 30 years... Original Bittersweet Orange, 390, 4 Speed, Go Pak, Ralleye Pak car. Vin# A9M397X121062 with 69,381 miles. Purchased new at Natale AMC in Saratoga Springs, NY by local Dan Schofield for $3740.00. Special order "C" stripe required car to be delivered from a Connecticut dealership. Telephone pole damage in October, 1971 and repaired at Tellers Autobody in Milton, NY (long since gone). The AMX was campaigned in 1974 at Englishtown Dragstrip in New Jersey and garnered runner-up in NHRA SS/C class with a 10.8 @ 135 mph. Painted British Racing Green. Last registered and driven in 1984. Package includes non-roller car that requires complete restoration, 1970 Rebel Machine 390 CID, 340 HP, forged & balanced crank, new ring and gasket kit, new forged dish pistons on forged rods (in anticipation of a Roots style blower), new Crane Cam (not sure of spec's), new under manifold aux. oil line, new Milidon Oil Plate, new Cloyes double roller timing chain set, new oil pan and dipstick, new 3 core radiator, rebuilt 4 speed from Rowland Street Transmission in Ballston Spa, NY, with blow proof bellhousing, heads #3196291C done as per AMC Power Book by Dave Hunt's Machine Shop in Schenectady, NY. with Edelbrock finned aluminum valve covers, new Offenhauser 360 intake (American Performance) with 2 new Carter 625 carbs, new black carpet, new door kick sills, 6 point cage, new race seats, new fiberglass hood, new trunk mount battery kit, multiple rear ends, front Trunion suspension is toast, etc. I've got more stuff than I can remember:-) Car is located in zip 12020. 1969 AMX 390 4-Speed in beautiful factory Bittersweet Orange.AMC only produced 8,293 AMX's in 1969, which is very low production numbers by Detroit standards.Denoted by the X in the VIN number, this factory equipped Go-Pack car makes it even more rare.The AMX was widely noted for "Industry Firsts" in 1969. The American Society of Automotive Engineers named the AMX as the "Best Engineered Car of the Year" For its first year recognition the reasons cited included the car's dashboard, which was injection-molded in one piece "for safety purposes, an industry first". The AMX's new 390 engine was developed to have a large displacement within its minimal external dimensions (it really looks like a small block chevy) and moderate weight, while the use of common components and machining with AMC's 290 and 343 engines assured manufacturing economy (also makes it easier to find parts, if you need them).The 92 inch wheelbase of the AMX was only 1 inch longer than the Corvette - which was noted as its chief competitor, as it was the only other 2 seat performance car that was made in America at the time.At only 3,000 lbs, the AMX has an excellent power to weight ratio - and with the 390 up front, turning the Borg-Warner Super T-10 - sometimes traction can be a problem, it has that muchpower and quick response - both in acceleration, and braking. Out back there's a "Twin Grip" differential with a 3.45:1 ratio.Overall, the timeless styling, and Bittersweet Orange paint really give this car amazing presence. The metallic gleams in the sun beautifully. Get in back of the wheel, and the driving position is perfect - with the factory equipped Hurst shifter falling easily, and closely at hand. "This AMC/AMX has a white exterior with red stripping and AMC wheels. The interior is done in red and white vinyl with a full floor console. The engine is a high compression/medium block/390CU/ (6.4 liter) V8. The transmission is a 3 speed auto shift command on the console. Factory options include power steering power brakes (front GO Pack discs). The paint is 15 years old. The engine was rebuilt in 1999 and the transmission in 2005. Up for sale is my 1969 American Motors AMX with the factory 390 and Borg Warner T-10. This Go Pack AMX had a complete documented restoration in 2006 that took just about 12 months. The 390 motor has the factory numbers stamped R4B intake and original air cleaner. Interior is very nice, saddle leather seats with center arm rest and a factory AM 8 track radio ( that works) big face tack, PS/PDB, Hurst shifter & a hooded dash. The body on this AMX was in very good condition before restoration. After we soda blasted it, except for needing a passenger lower quarter panel the AMX was very solid. The body prep and 65A Regatta Blue paint job on this AMX was expensive but it was well worth it. With the Trend Setter side exhaust, Go pack stripes, new magnum 500 rims, Bendex 4 piston calipers with stainless steel sleeves & pistons from Calipers USA.
