I am selling my 1963 Oldsmobile Super 88, 4 Door Sedan, 42,210 Original Miles, 394 cu in, Big Block "Ultra High Compression" Skyrocket V8 with 330 Horse Power. It took 2nd place at the Rocket to the Rockies OCA Mile High Nationals in 2001 and won a 1st place trophy in the category of Best General Motors at the 2008 Cheyenne Superdays. It was part of the Rocky Mountain Oldsmobile Club for a number of years. Edit: This Super 88 has the ultra-high compression 330 HP Skyrocket V8 with 10.25:1 compression ratio. The engine has the ultra-high compression air cleaner decal, the block reads 585786 - 4 1/8, the Head ID is J-349031, and the VIN is 635K06467 which means it was manufactured in Kansas City. The J in the head ID means it is a 4-barrel carb with the 330 HP 10.25:1 engine and the rest is the production number. The car is in excellent condition, the interior is beautiful and all original with no defects. The body is rust free and only has a couple very tiny surface scratches which will buff out. It was repainted with the factory color paint about 12 years ago. The rear bumper has two small scratches on it and the rear driver's side tail-light has a 1 inch crack in it which was repaired. The shocks have been replaced and the car was maintained regularly including the brakes, tune-ups, etc. The car was rated at sale in 1999 as being in overall excellent condition. The Oldsmobile has always been garaged and has had only two owners. The original owner purchased the Eighty-Eight new in Cheyenne, Wyoming and she sold it to my parents in 1999 and it has been kept just outside of Cheyenne up to the present. This is a classic car and resembles the Cadillac and Impala's of its time with some classic American muscle and power. Needs body and mechanical work. Planned on fixing it up but have not had the time. Last driven and passed Maryland Emissions testing in 2005. Has been sitting in driveway covered with tarp since 2007. Needs at least a battery and new brake lines. Will start with new battery but cannot be driven without brakes. Some rusting has taken place and there are dents that need to be addressed. Will need new paint job as well as interior work on front driver seat and ceiling fabric needs to be replaced. Have 2 of the original hub caps, both in good condition (not in photos). The car was owned by my dad who was disabled and passed away in 1999. It was then driven by my son for a few years until he bought his own vehicle. Engine only has 62,204 miles on it and had great V8 pickup. It has not been driven since 2007 but I got it started recently by temporarily hooking up a friends new battery and priming the carb. It was run for a good 25 minutes where I found that the brakes did not work although the emergency brake was fine. The transmission worked but the A/C needed help. My guess is that the fr-eon leaked out after a period of time. Now, I am intending to move shortly and need to sell the car. This is a great deal for someone who wants to take on a moderate restoration and who likes cars with real pick-up. I can provide some maintenance records from 1986 through 2003. You are bidding on a 1999 Oldsmobile 88 LS sedan. Vehicle is used and in very good driving condition with low miles for it's age. The 205 HP engine and 4 spd transmission give it plenty of power, the AC blows cold, the AM/FM stereo and CD player work fine ( it also has a cassette player which doesn't work). The driver's power seat controls along with all 4 power windows and door locks operate smoothly. The 205/70R 15 Goodyear Reggata tires show even wear with good tread remaining. The compact spare appears to have never been used and checks out at 60PSI. The interior and trunk carpeting are in good shape along with the fabric seats. The headliner is sagging in places and has some small tears. The car was originally a dark blue and the exterior has been repainted black, overall the paint is complete without any peeling or rust however there are some thin areas in the clear coat (See photos) . Car comes with owners manual, 2 ignition keys, 2 door lock keys and key fob. The NC title is clear and can be notarized on site. As with all the trucks and cars that I have sold on ebay this car is being sold as is without any warranty. I sold a Dodge Caravan earlier this year and received positive feed back. Quite superior to the rest of the Oldsmobile line up the 98 was the top of the line model and equipped with all power options standard. This vehicle had underwent a full frame off restoration in the late 90’s and has been well cared for since. The car is in excellent running condition all power options work as they should and represents a very presentable example. Having some aged since its restoration, the car has been driven and shows some signs of road use with a few nicks and chips but nothing major. The interior is nice, seats are like new as is the top. The vehicle is finished in its original colors of Provincial White with a Garnet Metallic trim line. The interior is the code 385 red, the top is Garnet. Original drivetrain is in excellent condition it is equipped with a 394/325hp high compression engine at 10.1, all its power a luxury equipment includes Power Steering and Brakes, Power Top and Power Seat, wonder bar radio and power antenna. The vehicle is an exceptional driver in good condition it could benefit from some minor refreshing to its rubber trim pieces and carpet over all it is fabulous car to own and enjoy. Oldsmobile History for 1961 Cars GM lines in 1961, for the most part, exemplified the new, cleaner, lower, longer, wider look that was just coming into fashion. Simple, twin, round combination tail/stop/directional lights enhanced the rocketlike styling as did the tapered rear fender styling. The flamboyant fins of the fifties were all but gone from GM’s lineup, except Cadillac which would hold onto them for just a few more years. The very first Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight appeared for model year 1941. The series name would continue to signify the top-of-the-line, flagship model for the next fifty-eight years, the last issues being built for the 1999 model year. Super 88s may have been ‘super’ but the Ninety-Eight was always the creme de la creme of the Oldsmobile fleet. Typically riding a longer wheelbase with an appropriately greater overall length, the Ninety-Eight had a more powerful engine than the base level Eighty-Eight and as one might expect, a host of appearance and convenience features that were optional, at extra cost, on Eighty-Eight and Super 88 models. The privileged few (roughly one in six full size Oldsmobiles for 1961 were Ninety-Eight models) paid at least $4,072 for the opportunity– an additional $1,000.00 or thirty-three percent up-charge for the prestige of Ninety-Eight ownership. That was quite a hefty premium considering that the base price of a base model Eight-Eight was only $2,956.00 at the time. All full size Oldsmobiles for 1961 shared the same 6.46 liter (that’s 394 cubic inches) cast iron, V-8 engine 325 horsepower Rocket V-8 one of a continuing series of ‘Rocket V-8s’ designed by Charles Kettering, father of the ‘modern day, high compression V-8 engine. His designs included a number of interesting features including overhead valves, hydraulic lifters, oversquare bore-stroke ratio, forged crank with counterweights, aluminum pistons, full-floating wrist-pins, and a dual plane intake manifold. The 1961 engine was badged the ‘Skyrocket’ V-8. Consumers of top-of-the-line models, like the Olds Ninety-Eight, expected creature comfort, performance and convenience amenities, typically optional at extra cost on lesser models, to be included as standard equipment on their ‘highline’ models. Quite superior to the rest of the Oldsmobile line up the 98 was the top of the line model and equipped with all power options standard. This vehicle had underwent a full frame off restoration in the late 90’s and has been well cared for since. The car is in excellent running condition all power options work as they should and represents a very presentable example. Having some aged since its restoration, the car has been driven and shows some signs of road use with a few nicks and chips but nothing major. The interior is nice, seats are like new as is the top. The vehicle is finished in its original colors of Provincial White with a Garnet Metallic trim line. The interior is the code 385 red, the top is Garnet. Original drivetrain is in excellent condition it is equipped with a 394/325hp high compression engine at 10.1, all its power a luxury equipment includes Power Steering and Brakes, Power Top and Power Seat, wonder bar radio and power antenna. The vehicle is an exceptional driver in good condition it could benefit from some minor refreshing to its rubber trim pieces and carpet over all it is fabulous car to own and enjoy. Oldsmobile History for 1961 Cars GM lines in 1961, for the most part, exemplified the new, cleaner, lower, longer, wider look that was just coming into fashion. Simple, twin, round combination tail/stop/directional lights enhanced the rocketlike styling as did the tapered rear fender styling. The flamboyant fins of the fifties were all but gone from GM’s lineup, except Cadillac which would hold onto them for just a few more years. The very first Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight appeared for model year 1941. The series name would continue to signify the top-of-the-line, flagship model for the next fifty-eight years, the last issues being built for the 1999 model year. Super 88s may have been ‘super’ but the Ninety-Eight was always the creme de la creme of the Oldsmobile fleet. Typically riding a longer wheelbase with an appropriately greater overall length, the Ninety-Eight had a more powerful engine than the base level Eighty-Eight and as one might expect, a host of appearance and convenience features that were optional, at extra cost, on Eighty-Eight and Super 88 models. The privileged few (roughly one in six full size Oldsmobiles for 1961 were Ninety-Eight models) paid at least $4,072 for the opportunity– an additional $1,000.00 or thirty-three percent up-charge for the prestige of Ninety-Eight ownership. That was quite a hefty premium considering that the base price of a base model Eight-Eight was only $2,956.00 at the time. All full size Oldsmobiles for 1961 shared the same 6.46 liter (that’s 394 cubic inches) cast iron, V-8 engine 325 horsepower Rocket V-8 one of a continuing series of ‘Rocket V-8s’ designed by Charles Kettering, father of the ‘modern day, high compression V-8 engine. His designs included a number of interesting features including overhead valves, hydraulic lifters, oversquare bore-stroke ratio, forged crank with counterweights, aluminum pistons, full-floating wrist-pins, and a dual plane intake manifold. The 1961 engine was badged the ‘Skyrocket’ V-8. Consumers of top-of-the-line models, like the Olds Ninety-Eight, expected creature comfort, performance and convenience amenities, typically optional at extra cost on lesser models, to be included as standard equipment on their ‘highline’ models. Offered in five body styles including three 4-door models, a 2-door convertible and the coupe shown above... the ‘Classic’ Ninety-Eight for Sixty-One, didn’t let them down. Interiors were upholstered in a choice of luxurious fabrics, vinyl and/or sumptuous leathers. In addition to a multitude of features listed as standard fare on the base model Eighty-Eight and step-up Super Eighty-Eight models, the Ninety Eight included windshield washer; electric clock; Jetaway Hydra-Matic transmission; power steering and power brakes.... Popular upscale options included the Super Deluxe Signal Seeking AM radio ($124.00); power antenna ($23.00); power windows ($106.00) Other incredibly mundane options included a heater and defroster; back up lamps ($9.00); courtesy lamps ($5.00) and anti-spin differential for $45.00. During the 1961 model run, Oldsmobiles were produced in one of SEVEN American cities, Michigan (the home of Oldsmobile); Kansas City, Missouri; Atlanta, Georgia; Linden, New Jersey; Los Angeles, California; Arlington, Texas and Wilmington, Delaware.
