1963 Ford Thunderbird Sports Rdstr Upgrades 4,800 Miles Rangoon Red 390 cu in A Vehicle Overview: Stock: 0001 VIN: 3Y85Z138165 Year: 1963 Exterior Color: Rangoon Red Make: Ford Interior Color: Red Model: Thunderbird Mileage: 4800 Engine: 390 cu in Transmission: Automatic Vehicle Description: Are you looking for what is likely the best 1963 T-Bird in existence? This is a multiple award-winning and rust free Arizona car that has undergone a no-expense spared rotisserie restoration by renowned Thunderbird restorer Bud Gilroy from Temecula, Ca. This T-Bird was restored for his close friend, Don Kratzer of Fallbrook, CA. He loved this car and fully optioned it with all the dealer installed Sports Roadster items. Bud and Don bought the car from the Thunderbird Connection on November 12, 1991 for $13,300. This is a ton of money for a car that you are about to restore! The car was then completely disassembled for restoration. He restored every single part of the car, down to the minutest detail. The car spent over one year on a rotisserie. The bodywork was completed by a craftsman in Temecula that used absolutely no body filler. He used nothing but his hammers, blocks, sweat and heat. Again, Bud Gilroy is a highly regarded and experienced restorers of Thunderbirds. This example lives up to his reputation in every respect. It is painted in the ultimate color of Rangoon Red with red interior and a black canvas convertible top. Every aspect of the restoration is excellent and remains in stunning condition. It has all of the Sports Roadster options but it is not a Sports Roadster. The T-Bird was completed in time for the 1994 Pageant of the Thunderbirds Show where it was awarded Best of Show!! This is considered one of the most competitive T-Bird shows in the world. It then proceeded to win award after award for being the finest example in existence. After a full decade of competitive showing, it was used for local and regional touring, having now accumulated about 4,800 miles. The car is fully optioned with air conditioning, heater, dealer supplied roadster-type tonneau cover, wire wheels, power steering, power brakes, power window, power seats, power convertible top, correct and original wire wheels, an original “Thunderbird” AM radio, 390 cu in V-8 powered (single carb) and new custom ordered Diamond Back radials. Of course this T-Bird has the sliding steering wheel which brings pleasure to anyone seeing it slide! The VIN is 3Y85Z138165.It has very little patina and would only be improved by continued detailing, use and maintenance. The car has not been shown for many years and would be a top scorer at any concours event. An opportunity to acquire a fabulous rotisserie restored car, done by a famous T-Bird restorer is rare to come by. This car, having a known history and being from Arizona in a dynamite color combination is that much more rare!! This is a tremendous opportunity to acquire a fabulous car for your collection. We are selling this on behalf of the Mr. Kratzer’s widow. It is located in Fallbrook, CA. But rare is the masterpiece that can so seamlessly blend two completely different vehicles as this stately Ford Thunderbird. You see, this classic bird's profile is merely an attractive illusion as, underneath its surface, smooth 1994 Lincoln Mark VIII mechanicals are right and ready to cruise! Complete with a rebuilt InTech V8, a modern automatic transmission and independent air ride suspension, this stunning Lincoln, err, Ford mixes the best aesthetics of one of Detroit's most storied creations with the mechanical prowess of one of America's greatest luxury coupes. Looking for a truly exceptional, truly unique collector car? This imposing 'Bigbird' is unmistakably you! BODYWORK/TRIM Professionally assembled by Charlotte's own Finished Dreams Restoration, and professionally painted by Winston-Salem's The Paint Shop, this Ford's lust-inducing body reflects a picturesque coat of Raven Black 2-stage. From its glossy shine to its chip-free rocker panels, that paint's deep finish is nice enough to be the star at any local cruise night, and certainly nicer than the car's original, factory-applied pigment. Naturally, a star of that caliber requires top notch panel fit, as the folks who bolted this coupe together spent ample time making sure its jet-inspired fuselage maintained excellent cohesion. Modern headlights, Mark VIII door handles and a power moonroof perfectly complement turquoise birds and brilliant trim that was carefully refinished by the pros at Advanced Plating in Nashville, Tennessee. And today, this classic rolls as a stunning tribute to one of the coolest designs to ever fly out of Dearborn, Michigan. ENGINE/DRIVETRAIN Toss the car's chrome-trimmed hood and you'll find a 32-valve dual overhead cam Lincoln InTech V8 that's one of the hottest and most versatile engines Ford ever produced. Stout, solid and highly adaptable, these Teksid aluminum blocks have spent the last two decades powering everything from Mustangs and street rods to Aviators and Panoz roadsters. And not only does the modern gem crank out roughly 300 horsepower, it also features a tidy appearance that, when combined with the car's monochromatic engine bay, literally looks tailor-made. That high tech mill, fully rebuilt back in 2009, sends power to a Mark VIII-spec 4R70W 4-speed automatic transmission. And that gearbox twists a Mark VIII-spec rear axle that's fitted with mild, 3.08 gears. CHASSIS/SUSPENSION The interesting thing about Finished Dreams is the quality of their conversions. Instead of a simple engine swap, or a pro-touring style adaptation, this '61 T-Bird's body is actually mated to its Lincoln donor chassis as one complete structure. The car's floor and frame are straight Lincoln. That duo is supported by Lincoln's fully independent suspension, which retains the computer-controlled air ride that made the Mark VIII so famous. Power rack-and-pinion steering provides modern turning ability. Pound on the left pedal and power-assisted, 4-wheel disc brakes utilize factory ABS to fulfill a quick stop. Romp on the right pedal and a Ford-spec exhaust system creates a subdued roar. And at the corners, handsome Dayton wires twist 275/40ZR17 BF Goodrich g-Force Sports. INTERIOR One of the central themes of pro-touring is creating cars that, despite their appearance, are much easier to live with than their factory-correct peers. Nowhere is that mindset more prevalent than inside this 'bird's full Mark VIII interior. The passengers are treated to plush leather seats, which feature full power adjustment for the driver and front passenger. In front of those seats, a driver-oriented dash anchors Lincoln telemetry beside Lincoln air conditioning and Lincoln audio. Below that dash, fresh carpet centers a simple console between color-keyed floor mats. At the sides of that carpet, sculpted door panels cap power windows and remote controlled power door locks. In front of the driver, a Thunderbird-branded steering wheel laps a modern, tilting column. And behind the passengers, a fully finished trunk features enough luggage room for a quick weekend getaway. It'll run the tires off a stock T-Bird. It rides like a true luxury coupe. And best of all: the car's modern mechanicals can be serviced at any Ford dealer on the planet. Pro-touring is rarely this accessible, and if you're the kind of guy who wants something nobody else has, here's your first class ticket to exclusivity! I am pleased to offer my 1957 Thunderbird for sale, it was built at the Dearborn plant and DSO delivered to Patterson New Jersey in October of 1956. A copy of the original invoice in available and included with the sale of this vehicle. The car spent its life in New Jersey, Massachusetts, Florida and now Pennsylvania. A previous owner did a frame off restoration in 1994 and pictures are available and included documenting the restoration. Receipts are also available documenting the replacement parts that I purchased to upgrade this car to its current condition. The cars features include: a 3-speed “Fordomatic” transmission, power steering, power brakes, power windows, an original Ford Town and Country Am radio that was converted to Am/Fm Stereo and Kelsey Hayes wire wheels with new Coker Classic wide whitewall radials. The clock works, the cars tachometer as well as all the other gauges work perfectly. Included are two tops, a new canvas black soft top with an original frame and a colonial white porthole hardtop. Another factory option is a black tonneau cover, which is original and in good condition is included. The car's color is original Wimbledon white (code EE) with black and white interior (code XA). About the mechanics, the power brake booster was rebuilt along with new rear brake cylinders and resurfaced drums. The front brakes were rebuilt several years ago. The front-end parts are original and solid, the stabilizer bushings were replaced and an upgraded stabilizer bar was added. The rear leaf springs and front coils were replaced. Four new shock absorbers were installed. The exhaust system is a new aluminized system with low restriction mufflers. An electric thermostatically controlled fan was added in front of the radiator to control engine heat during stopped traffic. A rebuilt power steering control valve was added, replacing the old leaky unit as well as a new fuel pump. Engine and transmission are in good condition, previous owner replaced old gas tank and sending unit with new. The interior is in very good condition, the carpets, door sills, dash pad, door panels and armrests, window rubber moldings, fuzzies and seat upholstery are in good condition. The exterior is in good condition, showing some hints of being a 21 year old restoration. There is no rust or dents, some touch-up of chips and nicks, but all in all still a real head turner. All NOS/original, used/original or Ford approved repo parts were used in the cars reconditioning. The odometer is showing 06,988 miles (106,988), which I’m told is original by the previous owner. Everything works on this car and it has very few flaws. A lot of the outside chrome was replaced and the bumpers were rechromed in 1994. I have three Ford 14 inch steel wheels plus the spare and four original hub caps and one spare K.H. wire wheel that could be included in the sale. The underneath of the car is excellent. Included is a correct factory jack (see picture), a one year version which is worth >$400. E-mail me to discuss price or to answer any questions about the car or for more pictures. If you have done your homework with regards to 1957 Thunderbirds, you know that these cars bring the dollars and have increased in value where as some classic cars have depreciated over the last several years. Amos Minter's restorations put the 1957 Bird over the 100K price. I feel I have price my car below its real value, I would grade it between a #2 and #3 car in terms of condition.
Nice two owner Ford Thunderbird. It's about time to give it up. I Want something a little newer. The car does have some light mods. And it's been a good car to me. With that here we go...1. lowered two inches all around with suspension techniques springs.2. Monroe heavy duty front shocks. ( added last summer ) 3. Bilstein Ford Mustang cobra rear shocks. ( About two summers ago )4. Accell wires - fresh plugs last summer. ( I don't drive it in the winter )5. New rotors and brakes last summer. ( took the drums off the rear. all disc brakes ) 6. stock exhaust.7. Fresh paint last summer from Macco. 8. Rear bumper from a 1994 Thunderbird SC. And side skirts9. 1997 Thunderbird hood and head lights. 10. new battery. Just bought Jan 201511. Ford Taurus SHO rear spoiler. The car did have a slight mishap a drunken fool hit it while it was parked on the passengers side door. Not really noticeable until you get close. The rear wheel on the passenger side was damaged. This was last month, hit a damn pot hole. I was going to replace it, but chose to use one of my old wheels. Thecar does have an exhaust leak. The pass side exhaust header has cracked in two places. ( from age ) I do have a replacement. The blend door in the dash needs to be changed. I kept putting that off. It's a 25 part. The radio would be coming with the car. Kenwood. I pod compatible. The speakers are Cerwin Vegas in the fronts. and Kenwood in the rear.

It turns heads, stops traffic, and woman flock to it. Imagine yourself cruising up the coast to your favorite restaurant on a sunny summer day. Nothing represents the “Rat Pack” era better than this car. With its jet age body, ultra rare color combination, Samoan Coral exterior, white interior, white convertible top, Sports Roadster tonneau cover and Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels, it is the epitome of ’60s cool.Award Winning Classic Restored in a "frame up" restoration to the highest standards in 1994, this car has only seen 5,500 miles since and is still pretty much as it rolled out of the showroom in ’64. This classic Thunderbird received its Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) Senior Designation in 1995 and won the AACA Grand National 1st Prize in both 1996 and 1998. The recipient of multiple trophies including; Best of Show, Best in Class, First Place, People’s Choice and Best Engine (approximately 60 trophies in total), this car is a key attraction wherever it is shown. The most beautiful cars ever made were the French Teardrops of the 1940s such as Delahey, Talbot Logo, and Bugatti. Originally built for movie stars, Maharajas, and kings, a finely restored example can command prices of more than $10,000,000. But you don’t have to spend multiple millions to cruise in beauty, grace, and style. To me, this particular car, the 1964 Thunderbird Convertible in Samoan Coral with the white interior and the Sport Roadster Kit, is the most beautiful post-World War 2 car, and ranks right up there with the coolest cars ever made.
