At the same time, engineers developed a performance version for what are now a slew of legendary cars built in the 60s and early 70s. Cost-cutting, emissions and downsizing killed that fun, though there was one last hurrah: machines like this 1993 SS454 sport truck. While not exactly a COPO Camaro, these short bed trucks have a look all their own and a very strong following. Outside, your color choice was simple: black or buy a different truck. Chevys Heartbeat of America campaign was in full swing, and red accents separated the sporty models from the mundane, and an all-black grille, fog lights, and an air dam are enough to frighten the heck out of the car in front of you. 454SS decals on the quarter panels and chrome wheels with matching center caps were package exclusive. Like most vehicles of this era, the paint failed to hold up due to the changeover in paint technologies (you remember Berettas and Cavaliers with sheets of color missing) and this one had dulled to the point of no return. In response, a full, high quality repaint was done a couple years back and its miles ahead of what the factory ever managed. This is a southern truck with only 30,000 one owner original miles so the body was just about perfect to start with. The headlights and taillights are in excellent shape. High quality tint on the side and rear windows as well as smoked covers on the front turn signals make the truck even more sinister. The bed is fully protected with a spray-in liner, and the spoiler on the tailgate gives off a great NASCAR truck series vibe. Inside, the medium gray velour interior split buckets with center console are in nearly perfect shape, and the lack of fading shows that this truck was stored indoors most of its life. While Chevy trucks are hearty vehicles its still nice to know that every switch, button and knob work as they should. You got full instrumentation with the SS package, complete with tachometer. Factory A/C, cruise control and delay wipers are on the turn signal stalk, while the unusual split radio and cassette deck are still in the dash. This is a large and comfortable truck, and its even better with big block torque under your right foot! Pop the hood and find the heart of the package: The big 7.4 liter, 454 cubic inch V8. With throttle body injection it makes 250 horsepower and a towering 385 pounds of torque, a number the small block couldnt hope to achieve. Its nearly stock in here aside from the throwback chrome air cleaner and yellow Accel spark plug wires and the power steering, power disc brakes and the A/C all work as they should. Connected to a TH400, heavy duty lock-up transmission and a 13-bolt rear axle with 4.11 gears and a Posi, this SS454 is no slouch, and the hardware is pretty much bulletproof. 1993 Was the last year of production as well as the leanest, with only 833 examples built. Underneath its again quite tidy and clean. A subtle dual exhaust system is a great addition to the great engine under the hood. Chevy opted to throw in Bilstein shocks at all four corners and fat 275/60/15 tires like the BFGoodrich rollers you see here. The C series was finally replaced by the Silverado in 1999. Chevrolet has been at the forefront of design and performance since the beginning. Today, consumers can walk into a dealership and basically order any power, comfort, or convenience option directly from the factory. However, just a few short decades ago, this was not the case. Especially in the truck and van models, available luxury options were limited. The only way to obtain a high end vehicle was to order a conversion. The conversions were basic units sent directly from the factory to an aftermarket company, who converted the vehicles into high end models by adding comfort, convenience, and style upgrades. One of the most well known of these companies was Mark III Industries. Mark III Industries, formerly located in Ocala, FL., was the largest truck and van conversion company in the world back in the heyday of the conversion craze. Mark III Industries was light years ahead of most conversion companies. The Ocala facility actually had eight production lines converting all makes and models of vans and trucks into high end, luxury units. Unlike the other companies, virtually all the components that were installed on a Mark III conversion were manufactured and produced within the Ocala plant. All wood trim was cut and shaped with automated laser machines to insure uniformity. The Ocala factory had its' own sewing shop and a cabinet shop. All paint work was performed in a state of the art, high tech facility that utilized air currents to prevent even miniscule dust and dirt particles from settling on the paint before it dried. They truly had a corner on the market, and thousands of vehicles passed through their plant. Although first popularized by their conversion vans, they quickly recognized customer demand and branched out to truck conversions. In their peak production years, there were approximately 1,850 employees and over 1,200 conversions per week were rolling off the assembly lines. Mark III was also instrumental in the fight against pollution. These anti pollution procedures were instituted well before government mandated regulation. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) are a dangerous by products of the processes of conversions. Between 1988-1991, Mark III reduced the emission of VOC by 38%, at a cost to them of over $600,000. This forward thinking company not only reduced pollution in the atmosphere, but also improved the work environment for the employees. They accomplished this through substitution and reformulation of materials, improved application methods and equipment, changes in raw materials, changes in gluing methods, and the elimination of most of the paint procedures through the application of a revolutionary and somewhat unknown process at the time, vinyl graphics. Yes, Mark III was one of the pioneers in the vinyl graphics industry. The company was also the biggest employer in the Ocala area. In 1993 , in a state where manufacturing was one of the fastest shrinking sectors, Mark III posted total sales of $738 million, an increase of 91% from the previous year. Mark III was the 12th largest private company in the state of Florida in 1993. The goliath of conversion vehicles ran into multiple problems in the late '90's. They were hit extremely hard by two primary factors: 1) A vastly shrinking market; 2) Increasing competition from other conversion companies, and also the car manufacturers themselves, who were now selling a new popular vehicle dubbed the Sport Utility Vehicle, or SUV. In addition, as the new Millennium arrived, all the manufacturer's expanded their own luxury option lists on all vehicles, reducing the need for an aftermarket company. They began by closing their satellite companies, such as Tiara Motor Coach in Goshen, IN. In 1998, Mark III Industries was purchased by, and merged with, Glaval Corp., a transit and shuttle bus manufacturer. By mid 2001, the company closed its' doors, signifying the end of an era. Mark III Industries is recognized as the biggest and best conversion company in history. The quality control, along with attention to detail, and progressive thinking, is responsible for the fact that many examples of their work are still roadworthy today. A company named East Coast Custom Vehicles, formerly East Coast Auto Toys, in Riverhead, NY., is currently offering Mark III custom parts and service, but it is unknown if they build complete vehicles. Here it is!!! 1993 Chevy C1500. I am the only 1 owner of this truck. I bought it new, right off the showroom floor, in 1993. This truck has never been stolen or in an accident. I still have the original window sticker and the owner’s manual. It came factory stock as a sport truck ( 350SS ) with all the options = 5.7L engine, 5 speed manual transmission, Engine oil cooler, Sport Handling Package, Split front seat, 3.42 ratio differential, Tachometer, Chrome rims and 275/60r/15 tires all around, Power steering, Power windows, Power door locks, A/C, Tilt steering, Cruise, etc. I drove it for many years and then decided to do a COMPLETE rebuild of the truck along with one major upgrade = install a corvette based 383 engine in it. So it was completely taken apart and everything was painted / coated when it was professionally put back together. Practically everything on it was either replaced with new or rebuilt. I can’t say it’s a new truck again, but it’s about as close to it as you can get and even better in many ways. This truck is a frame off – rotisserie build. Unlike the factory, everything was painted / coated so it’ll stay looking good for a long time. And it has a corvette 383 tuned port injection ( TPI ) L98 motor in it!! This truck is tame and reliable enough to be a nice daily driver. It runs on pump gas and was built with power and reliability in mind. It doesn’t have all the “hot rod” inconveniences like some wild built race truck would. But it has plenty of power to have some real fun with. The truck was professionally dyno tuned (I have the dyno sheet) and it makes more power than the 454ss truck. (70 more hp and 55ftlb to be exact!) Now add to that, the weight savings of an aluminum head small block and this truck performs much better than the 454 ss truck ever did. Not to mention it gets better gas mileage and handles way better without being nose heavy like a big block truck. It corners and handles surprisingly well for a pickup truck. The motor = Balanced and blueprinted 383 roller cam short block with ported corvette aluminum heads (stainless valves, roller 1.6 rockers, bronze guides, head studs) and 89 TPI intake system. Dyno tuned and runs great. Makes 70 more reliable HP than the stock 454ss truck did. Trans = rebuilt nv3500 5-speed Brakes = stock disc/drum, stainless brake lines (of course ALL new hoses, frictions, hydraulics etc.) Rear end = Rebuilt 8.5” - 3.42 ratio with a tight Eaton clutch type posi Suspension = Stock front springs – 5 leaf rear springs lowered 2” with urethane bushings in the front and rear ( including urethane body mounts), all new ball joints and tie rods etc. Exhaust = Custom built full length headers with flex joints into 3” H pipe and dual turbo mufflers. It even has provisions for easy bolt on dual 3” converters. Interior = split bench tan/neutral color The interior is over 20 years old but still looks nice. The dash has a small crack in it (zoomed in on it in video) and the usual is worn from being a daily driver for almost 20 years. There are small burn marks on the driver seat and door panel. (See video) There are a few small stains here and there but nothing major. Overall I think it still looks good but I wanted to point these things out. Paint/body = The paint shines like a mirror without any major dents. Probably two/three small door dings if you look for them. There is practically NO rust on this truck anywhere. Even the underbody looks way better than new and will last a long time. Remember it was a frame off build, not a cheap “cover up the rust with undercoating” job. Everything was blasted clean, inspected and coated. The box has spray in bed liner. Installing the corvette engine was very expensive because it had to look and function like it belonged in the truck. The motor wasn’t just plopped in. It works like the factory put it in from the start. Should it need any repairs, the technician working on it will be happy to know the wiring for the truck is stock and the wiring for the engine is stock for a 1989 corvette. This way the repair parts are readily available and you wouldn’t need to “hunt down” any specialized parts for it and future maintenance / repairs are straight forward. Since the truck was completed, I’ve put about 5000 miles on it without an issue. It’s a load of fun to drive and I get complements all the time. There isn’t a single leak under it. GMC 1500 Sierra Classic short bed trucks are uncommon, and don’t come up for sale that often, especially in this condition. The third generation Chevrolet and GMC trucks were one of the best selling platforms in their history. This era included 1973-1987 models. Development of the new third generation trucks began in 1968, four years prior to production in 1972, with vehicle components undergoing simulated testing on computers, before the first prototype pickups were even built for real world testing. The redesign was revolutionary in appearance at the time, particularly the cab, departing from typical American pickup truck designs of the era. Aside from being near twins, the Chevrolet and GMC pickups looked like nothing else on the road. As a result, the third generation trucks are officially known as the "Rounded-Line" generation. Some people may refer to them as "square bodies", given that the trucks appear square-like when compared to more modern automotive design standards. GM's engineers fashioned the "Rounded-Line" exterior in an effort to improve aerodynamics and fuel efficiency, using wind tunnel technology to help them sculpt the body. Third generation design traits include "double-wall" construction, sleek sculpted body work, flared secondary beltline and an aerodynamic cab which featured rounded doors cutting high into the roof and steeply raked windshield featuring an available hidden radio antenna embedded into the glass. There were two types of pickup boxes to choose from. The first type, called Fleetside by Chevrolet and Wideside by GMC, was a "double-wall" constructed full width pickup box and featured a flared secondary beltline to complement the cab in addition to new wraparound tail lights. Both steel and wood floors were available. The second type, called Stepside by Chevrolet and Fenderside by GMC, was a narrow width pickup box featuring steps and exposed fenders with stand alone tail lamps. In 1981, there was a complete facelift to the design, and 1987 marked the last year of production for the third generation truck. At the same time, engineers developed a performance version for what are now a slew of legendary cars built in the 60's and early 70's. Cost-cutting, emissions and downsizing killed that fun, though there was one last hurrah: machines like this 1993 SS454 sport truck. While not exactly a COPO Camaro, these short bed trucks have a look all their own and a very strong following. Outside, your color choice was simple: black or buy a different truck. Chevy's "Heartbeat of America" campaign was in full swing, and red accents separated the sporty models from the mundane, and an all-black grille, fog lights, and an air dam are enough to frighten the heck out of the car in front of you. "454SS" decals on the quarter panels and chrome wheels with matching center caps were package exclusive. Like most vehicles of this era, the paint failed to hold up due to the changeover in paint technologies (you remember Berettas and Cavaliers with sheets of color missing) and this one had dulled to the point of no return. In response, a full, high quality repaint was done a couple years back and it's miles ahead of what the factory ever managed. This is a southern truck with only 30,000 one owner original miles so the body was just about perfect to start with. The headlights and taillights are in excellent shape. High quality tint on the side and rear windows as well as smoked covers on the front turn signals make the truck even more sinister. The bed is fully protected with a spray-in liner, and the spoiler on the tailgate gives off a great NASCAR truck series vibe. Inside, the medium gray velour interior split buckets with center console are in nearly perfect shape, and the lack of fading shows that this truck was stored indoors most of its life. While Chevy trucks are hearty vehicles it's still nice to know that every switch, button and knob work as they should. You got full instrumentation with the SS package, complete with tachometer. Factory A/C, cruise control and delay wipers are on the turn signal stalk, while the unusual split radio and cassette deck are still in the dash. This is a large and comfortable truck, and it's even better with big block torque under your right foot! Pop the hood and find the heart of the package: The big 7.4 liter, 454 cubic inch V8. With throttle body injection it makes 250 horsepower and a towering 385 pounds of torque, a number the small block couldn't hope to achieve. It's nearly stock in here aside from the throwback chrome air cleaner and yellow Accel spark plug wires and the power steering, power disc brakes and the A/C all work as they should. Connected to a TH400, heavy duty lock-up transmission and a 13-bolt rear axle with 4.11 gears and a Posi, this SS454 is no slouch, and the hardware is pretty much bulletproof. 1993 Was the last year of production as well as the leanest, with only 833 examples built. Underneath it's again quite tidy and clean. A subtle dual exhaust system is a great addition to the great engine under the hood. Chevy opted to throw in Bilstein shocks at all four corners and fat 275/60/15 tires like the BFGoodrich rollers you see here. Big, black, and surprisingly fast, this is the truck that invented the sport truck revolution, and it's a legitimate collector's item in its own right today. This is the last year model for these cars and the coupes are hard to come by. This car runs great. It has the 4.9L V8 engine which is one of the best and most reliable engines that they put in these cars. Power wise it is just as good as the Northstar but you don't have the same problems the Northstar does. This car fires right up and runs, drives, and shifts great. This car just floats down the road and is very nice to drive. It is a 2 Owner Car that only has 85K Original Miles on it. This car has been taken good care of over the years and maintained properly. There is a ton of receipts for repairs and maintenance that equals well over $5K. Someone spent a lot of money to keep this car maintained. Under the hood and undercarriage are clean and dry as can be. Make sure to watch the video I do a complete walk around of the car inside and out and even take it on a test drive.This is a very sweet car and last of the big body coupes. They only made 4,711 Cadillac Coupe Deville's in 1993 which was the last year the made these cars. They only made 24 cars this year in the Dark Plum color and we believe that this might be that color but we don't know for sure. You just don't see them like this anymore.This is a 2 Owner Car that ONLY has 85K Original Miles The exterior of this car is very nice. It is a dark burgundy in color with the light grey strip going along the bottom. I'm not sure if it was factory two tone or not but the paint on the bottom was bad so I redid it grey like you see and it looks great. It also has the matching half vogue roof that I believe they call eel skin. It is in very good condition and shows very little signs of fading. The paint does show some signs of fading especially on the top surfaces where the clear coat is burned off in spots. The car would look great with a new paint job some day. The body is straight on this car. All of the chrome and trim is in good condition and the chrome just shines in the sun. The factory wheels are very nice and show hardly any road wear at all and look great on the car. The front tires are Michelin that have bout 80% tread left but do have some dry rot. The back tires are very nice and have about 90% tread left. My Camry runs great, I've driven it 15k miles since last year. Unfortunately I am not able to register it with the paperwork I have so I will be selling it strictly as a PARTS CAR. It has a few small door dings, and some minor scuffs on the bumpers but is overall a very nice car. The A/C is really cold, and it gets almost 30mpg on the highway. I would not hesitate to drive this across the country right now, but remember it does not have current registration tags and/or license plates. 2004 Pontiac GTO The GTO was reintroduced in 2004 after a thirty year absence from the Pontiac lineup. They were built by GM Holden Ltd, an Australian subsidiary of General Motors on a Holden Monaro VZ chassis on the limited import of around 15,000 units. Mine has just under 107k miles on it, and is the desired Black/Black with a 6-speed manual! Sometime in its life an RKSports Ram Air hood and aftermarket trunk spoiler were installed. It also has Longtube headers, free flowing dual exhuast and cat converter delete (these 3 items being not legal for on-road use in CA), it is loud...just the way it should be! Fitted with an aftermarket hurst shifter, it is very comfortable to shift, and really moves out if you choose to do so. If you want to smog this car in CA, then the headers will need to be replaced with smog legal ones and catalytic converters will need to be installed... but if you live any other place than smog nazi California then you`ll get to enjoy the way she sounds and the increased performance! I would trust her to drive anywhere in the country. I just put brand new tires on the front (only 100 miles on them), there are no check lights on the dash and it'll get in the low to mid 20's mpg if you keep your foot out of it. Comes with a clean and clear CA title in my name and ready for transfer. Cons/Needs: ~Has a small Oil leak (haven't diagnosed from where) ~Clear coat is starting to fail on roof/trunk and tops of the fenders ~Lots of rock chips & scratches on the frontend (see pic) ~Driver seat stitching coming apart (common on these) ~6 Disc CD player... ehhh, it sucks....barely works ~Front bumper lower grill is included (in the trunk) ~The gas gauge just quit working a week ago ~Needs rear tires...
