1995 AUDI 90 SPORT "VERY RARE" Sedan 4-Door, V6 GAS, Pearl White Color RARE CAR IN GOOD CONDITIONGOOD INVESTMENT Engine Start Fast, Runs Good, New Battery. Needs to change front bushingsMissing AntennaFront Bumper Small Crackfront top of hood 10" scratchSpeedometer not workingAir conditioning stopped working 2 months ago (needs to be refilled) About the 1995 Audi 90The Audi 90 was one of the most prominent European cars in North America throughout much of the 1980s. It was available as a sedan, coupe, convertible, and a station wagon throughout its history, though the sedan was the most prominent option. With front-wheel drive standard and the option of four-wheel drive in its Quattro trim, the Audi wasn't an extremely powerful car, but it did have options, a distinctive look, and luxury interior features that appealed to the U.S. market. The 1993 version of the Audi 90 was assembled in Germany and Japan and featured a 2.8-liter 172 horsepower V6 engine, available with either a four-speed automatic transmission or a five-speed manual. Fuel economy was decent for the time at about 18/26 mpg for the automatic. The car was a bit cramped, and although it could seat five, this was easier said than done. The Audi 90's main points of differentiation in comparison to the Audi 80 were a slightly stronger engine and more updated features. The Audi 90 was launched as an improved version of the Audi 80 in 1984. While the Audi 80 was still available, buyers who chose the 90 would enjoy a different front grille, refined exterior features, and a more powerful engine. The difference between the 80 and the 90 became more notable in 1984. Eventually, the Audi 90 became the dominant brand and the 80 name was discontinued in North America. The Audi 90 name was discontinued in 1992 in North America, and the Audi A4 took over for the 90 as the prominent mid-size luxury sedan in Audi's lineup. Three trim levels were available for later versions of the Audi 90, including a standard trim, an upgraded CS that featured a better interior and more electronic features, and the CS Quattro Sport. This last trim was the four-wheel drive version of the Audi 90, popular in certain climates, although the 170 horsepower engine meant that Audi buyers generally weren't interested in a ton of power or towing, so other trim options were more successful. Options like leather seats and a power sunroof made the Audi a popular car, even through the early 1990s, and it was lauded as a dependable and relatively safe vehicle thanks to late introduction of standard passenger airbags. While the Audi 90 was a notable step into the American market, the 80 provided adequate features and handily outsold it. Elements of both vehicles' legacies would live on in the superior Audi A4 Terms and ConditionsGeneral -- What you seeOur items are sold "as described." 1970 Porsche 911T Targa SportomaticVin # 9110110663 / Engine # 61081222 / C Program Build FLICKR photo album over 80 phtotos: www.flickr.com/photos/55027262@N06/albums/72157657654737549Please see our Youtube video on the car here; youtube.com/watch?v=TZzKRTJSz28A few words on the Sportomatic transmission which seems to have put a few people off this car: While sounding American, and was indeed a response to the US Market, the Porsche Sportomatic gearbox is a proper piece of kit that was proven in motorsports before being introduced. In fact, after winning the 82 hour 1967 “Marathon de la Route” – an 82 hour race on the North and South loops of the Nurburgring – Vic Elford proclaimed that it should be the standard gearbox for the 911, and ordered his next 911 with one. There is a wonderful write up on this ultra-long endurance race in the July, 2015 edition of GTPorsche, that is worth reading. Porsche outfitted its first ever all-out race car, the 2.0L 911R, with the Sportomatic gearbox, to compete in this grueling race, to prove the technology before offering it to the public. The 911R Sportomatic won the race, completing 350 laps (9,916km) of the combined northern and southern loops, at an average speed of 73mph including all stops. The second place car was 34 laps behind (almost 1,000km!). Anyway if Porsche saw fit to put the Sportomatic in the 911R and give it to Vic Elford, Jochen Neerpasch and Hans Herrmannn to pound around the Nurburgring for 82 hours, winning the race by 34 very long laps, it should be OK for you too!-Lawrence On offer is a spectacular example of an early long hood, chrome-bumper 911 in the vibrant 70’s hue, Signal Orange. This car is remarkable for a couple of reasons; one is that it is a rare variant (Targa/Sportomatic) with approximately 600 produced, and far fewer remaining in their original configuration; the second reason is that the car has benefited from 4 very careful and fastidious owners from new, who have left an extremely well-documented paper trail. Particularly the 2nd owner who had the car from 1973 to 1997 and drove it for 84,000miles (9,500miles to 93,500 miles) and who restored the car, and who kept excellent notes - It was even worth the trouble for me to key in some of his letters as part of this auction description, as they describe a technically adept, and fastidious owner who had a deep appreciation and fond memories of a car he obviously cherished. Sometimes the maintenance file on a car tells a great story, and the contents of this 3” thick binder doesn’t disappoint. Post 1997, the car was sold to a Calgary Accountant (in fact my Accountant!) who had the car for 5 years and then sold the car to a friend of his, who is the co-owner of a highly acclaimed Art Gallery in Calgary. I have known both guys for 25 years. A new chapter of the car’s life then started, and we have a complete record of all the work done to the car since – over $32,000 in receipts transcribed below– that was spent at Alpine Automotive and Riegal Tuning in Calgary. Both companies are still in business, located a few blocks from Porsche Centre Calgary, and both of whom I use for my own classics. Marc Boulanger from Alpine is a Master Porsche Mechanic, and has done the work on the car since 2011 (Marc has also worked on our Metallic Green 1973 911S Coupe for the last 30 years). Major items include new SSI heat exchangers, rebuild of the Sportomatic gearbox and torque converter, clutch, carb rebuild, conversion to electronic ignition, Vredestein tires, new brakes, rear torsion bars etc. etc. Condition of the vehicle is exceptional, and it gets better the closer you look at it (it is not always this way). It is not easy to take one of these cars apart, and put it back together and have it look new and correct, but this is such a car. It has been driven – there is evidence of 40,000 miles of careful use since the restoration: There are some very small stone chips, the windscreen has some fine pitting, and there are some fine swirls in the paint, the car leaves a small oil spot on our floor after being left for a couple of days, and that is about it. I am not prone to ‘Puffery’ when it comes to describing cars (have a look at our Ferrari 348 auction) but given the mileage, the car can not be reasonably faulted, even by Porsche fanatics. Extra keys, the owners manual, a set of shop manuals, and a large box of spare and original parts come with the car, including the original Becker Mexico Radio with NOS face plate. Here is a link to the R&T Magazine road test of the 1970 Porsche 911, with the witty by-line: "Performance in the order of an American Supercar, without the stigma of low cost", in this case the 'S' was tested but it describes the current line up, and ends with this description of the 911T: "The 911S, exciting though it is, is not the right car for use in America - unless one lives in a state without open-road speed limits. The S just frustrates the poor driver most of the time in everyday driving, crying to be run up to its reline through the gears (do that in 2nd gear and you're at the speed limit in California) or cruised at 130-plus mph, and gives away a lot in low-speed performance to get its brilliant upper range, not to mention the extra cost. Since the 911T is also a bit stronger this year, and just as tractable as before, we recommend it as the best Porsche for all-around use- and a great car it is."vintageandsportscar.com/rvsc/DIR3/DIR4/PORSCHE/911S_2.2L_RT_03-1970.htmlHere is the contents of a letter sent to the 4th owner of the car, by the 2nd, dated February 25, 2010, and giving his account of his time with the car. There are service invoices to collaborate this information, neatly filed chronologically.“These are the reminisces about the Orange 1970 Porsche 911T Targa, with a 2.2L engine rated at 125hp, and the automatically operated clutch, Sportomatic.I purchased the car from Southgate Volkswagen Ltd in Edmonton in 1972 for $7,500. It was just over one year since it had been sold new by Southgate, a Porsche dealer at that time, with the mileage at around 9,800 miles. The reason the original owner traded in the Porsche for an Audi 100 was, that his wife had triplets and the 911 was just not a very practical vehicle for himself, his wife and three babies. I believe the new price of the car had been around $9,500.At the time of purchase the car had sealed beam headlights with the quite ugly chrome enclosures and it had fog lights which projected from the lower part of the bumper skirt. The fog lights stayed on the car less than one year. I removed them when I tired of buying $75 Hella glass lenses, which seemed to break almost as soon as they were installed. Whomever installed the Hella fog lights, probably someone at Southgate, had left the metal cover plates for the fog light holes in the car, so it was a simple matter to put them back to cover the holes in the bumper skirt. The sealed beams I replaced with the proper Porsche Bosch H4 headlights in the second year of ownership. The change in looks was dramatic plus the fact that the H4 headlights provide about four times better visibility at night. The appearance of the car today, except for the headlights, fog lights and the now non-existent front license plate, is identical to that when the car was new, including the lovely orange colour. From 1972 until 1979, the Porsche was my primary business vehicle and I used it in summer and winter, travelling all over the four Western Provinces and a number of trips to Sunnyvale and Long Beach, CA.The car was extremely trouble free during these 7 years. Oil and filters were changed as needed, valve adjustments when required and the only repair, and it was not a repair to rectify a failure, was that I replaced the electro-vacuum valve in the engine compartment. This valve is the link between the micro switches in the gear shift lever and the servo operating the clutch. It had bothered me to hear a thump sometimes, indicating a not proper functioning servo engaging the clutch, when putting the car into first gear a short time after having started the engine. Replacing the electro-vacuum valve did not make any difference. Now I know that the sudden engagement of the clutch at standstill is due to a lack of vacuum in the vacuum reservoir, this is a large flat reservoir in the engine compartment underneath the ‘rear window shelf’. The muffler was also replaced sometime during this period, because the carbon steel outer shell developed a number of holes. In 1979 I purchased a Mercedes 300D and the Porsche, now with 89,000miles, was parked, first in my back yard, covered with the proverbial blue plastic tarp, then in 1980 when my rented warehouse space increased from 1,500 to 3,500 sq. ft. I moved the Porsche there. The car still ran fine, it smoked a bit when pushed hard and it looked well used. With of course plenty of rock chips on the front and rockers which had seen better days. The Aluminum body strips on the sides, front and back looked crummy due to corrosion of the aluminum, the dashboard cover had a large crack in the center and much of the body rubber was showing its age, particularly the rubber on the roll bar where the Targa Roof meets the roll bar and the windshield had a sandblasted appearance after 8 years of travel.I then started slowly buying parts for a complete restoration. The list of new parts purchased during the next four years is as about follows, from memory.Left and Right front fenders, rocker panels, front and rear shock absorbers, complete half-shafts – for some strange reason, Porsche would not sell just the CV joints, you had to buy the complete half shafts. The aluminum and plastic insert body bumper strips for the parking/turn signal /stoplight lenses. The interior dashboard cover. The chrome bumperettes in the front, the Porsche hood ornament, the driver side outside mirror, the inside mirror, the hood rubber, all the door rubber and the massive rubber which fastens to the Targa roof and down the sides where the door window meet the Targa roll bar, and the rubber which attached to the windshield top. A great amount of many small fastening things for inside the car and for the body. All these parts were purchased from Norden Volkswagen Ltd., which at the time was operating from 97 Street and 128 Avenue. The parts manager there was Ali Roshan, a fourth generation Indian from Uganda and the most incredible Porsche parts person ever to walk around in Western Canada. The total amount spent for these parts was just less than $8,500. I once looked at the parts totals and remember that they were less than the $8,700 cost of the engine rebuild, which was done in 1983.The engine rebuild was done by Norden Volkswagen Ltd. by their long time Porsche mechanic, Theo Hellmann, during the winter of 1982/1983. The car was there for about 2 months, while Theo worked on the rebuild of the engine whenever time was available to him.The major engine components replaced were: Pistons and Cylinders, valve guides and valves, camshaft chain tensioners and the chain ‘slide blocks’, all bearing shells and the hi-tech studs which hold the magnesium alloy engine components together into a functioning engine, and of course gaskets and seals. The Crankshaft bearing surfaces were all in very good condition and did not require any refinishing, the same being true for the camshaft bearing surfaces. It was amazing to see a Porsche engine in a disassembled state. The most noticeable thing of course is that there is not really an ‘engine block’ as such, just a bunch of components which, when assembled and fastened together with the hi-tech studs make an engine. One can have nothing but respect for Ferdinand Porsche and the technical geniuses working with him when they designed the flat four cylinder opposed air cooled VW engine in the 1930’s.After the engine rebuild, I drove the car sparingly, mostly because it looked a bit rough and it spent most of its time in the corner of my warehouse. In 1984, I sold the Porsche for $6,000 to Carl Wetzlaughk, owner of Modern Autobody Ltd. in Edmonton. Carl was a Porsche collector of sorts, he had already two much newer Porsches, and added this to his collection, and I think over his wife’s objections. Then in 1987, I bought the car back from Carl for $6,000, and we made an agreement that for another $6,000, Modern Autobody Ltd. would restore the body using all the parts which were with the car.During the following four years the car remained in the shed at the back of the Modern Autobody Ltd. Yard. They just did not seem to get around to start on the rebuild, even though I had paid Modern the agreed $6,000 for the rebuild. Finally, in 1992, I suggested to Carl that I help with the restoration to get things moving, to which he agreed. The Porsche was put in a corner of the shop, and there, on most Saturdays and many Sundays, I stripped the body of all the parts which were removable.Moderns’ crew then installed the new rocker panels and did minor repairs to the rest of the body and finally painted the body shell. Then they painted the fenders, the doors, the hood and the engine compartment lid, the front bumper and the rear bumpers. These items were all separate from the car. All this took place in the late summer and fall of 1992.Then, during the winter of 1992/1993, I put the whole car back together. This was a huge task and although I am a technically adept person, getting all these pieces in place and fitted properly, was some challenge. Modern Autobody had repaired many Porsches, but hey had never stripped one as completely as this one, particularly one with a Targa body. In the end it all come together and all the pieces fell into place.I had ordered a new set of four Michelin X tires which arrived after 5 weeks wait from France, and Ali Roshan managed to find two original Porsche Batteries from Germany. One Sunday in the spring of 1993, I had changed the oil and filter a couple of weeks earlier, we pushed the car outside and attempted to start it. With the help of some gas sprayed into the carburetor throats, it started quite easily but would not idle. The car was moved to Norden Volkswagen where Theo Hellmann suggested a carburetor rebuild. Theo thought that because the car has sat for so long, that probably many of the leather and rubber plungers in the carburetors had dried out that they were now non-functional. The rebuild kit was ordered and arrived a few days later, and one week later the rebuild was completed. There were over 230 individual pieces that went into the rebuild. No average mechanic’s workbench would do here. He set up a 4x8 sheet of plywood on saw horses, covered with white paper and marked into 24, 12 inch squares, 4 per throat along the top and in the lower part very defined areas for the two bodies.I remember asking him how he would get it all back together, and he said that the instructions were very good, so it should go all right. At one point, when he had the carburetors back together an in place, while changing the distributor timing, he made the engine idle at about 300rpm. This was just before he adjusted them for normal use. The carburetor rebuild cost was just under $2,200.Shortly afterwards I replaced the original radio, which was not much of a radio from any viewpoint, with a Sony cassette unit and I also found a new speaker to fit in the dash, plus I ran a bigger wire feed to the rear speaker. These efforts did not really do much to make listening the radio any better. The engine noise combined with the road and wind noise always seemed to be pre-dominant and I quit attempting to ‘get better sound’.Some months following, after getting the car on the road, the right front torsion bar broke. When Norden tried to order a new one from Porsche in Germany, they replied that these were only sold in pairs. So, both were replaced. The cost was quite reasonable, about $125 each, an installation only amounted to two hours per side. The car ‘sat better’, a little higher at the front and it seemed to ‘handle nicer’ with the front torsion bars. At this point the only items needing ‘attention’ were the exhaust headers and possibly the muffler. If I remember, the new Porsche stainless steel exhaust headers were around $3,800 and a new muffler $1,200.I sold the car to Kevin Vertefeuille and his very attractive lady friend for $15,000 in the summer of 1995. I think it was 1995, but am not sure.Following are more items of interest about his neat car.Seat Belts: Originally there were no take-up reels on the seat belts, although there were shoulder belts. The belts never seemed to be where you could grab them to put them on and sometimes they fell outside the car when getting in and out. So quite early on, I bought two Audi seat belts on reels and started looking at installing them.I found in the rear wheel cavities of the body, mounting plates with welded nuts for seat anchors, all covered up with a thick layer of undercoating. After removing the undercoating from the nuts I was able to thread in a 6mm bolt, which soon bottomed out against metal. This meant that the mounting anchor plates were not accessible from inside the car. When I removed the upholstery panel, I found no holes in the body steel. Next, I drilled 1/8” holes from the ousted nuts into the car and then from the inside I enlarged the holes to accommodate 6mm bolts. There are ’standoffs’ around the bolts, between the back plate of the reels and the body metal to position the reels away from the body metal so as not to crush the upholstery. The original belt material was then wound on the reels and the original buckles attached because the buckles on the Audi belts did not match the anchor receptacles of the seatbelt between the seats. The whole was a massive improvement over the original belt installation.Gasoline Heater: This worked quite well for the first two winters. When it worked, it worked well and gave almost instant heat. Then, when lead was removed from gasoline, the efforts to keep it functioning became very troublesome. The heater has a vane pump, with the vane sliding in and out of a rotor in an elliptical cavity. When this pump runs, the vane ‘scoops’ air in and in the final stage of teach rotation of the vane with the air slightly compressed, gasoline is sprayed into the somewhat compressed air and then forced into the combustion chamber, where it ignites, initially with the help of a glow plug, but once running, from the latent heat in the combustion chamber. When lead was present in gasoline, lead acted as an excellent lubricant for the inside cavity of the vane pump, and enabled the vane sliding in and out of the rotor as this turned in the elliptical cavity. Without lead in gasoline, the missing lubricant needed by the vane in the rotor and in the vane sliding along the cavity wall, caused the heater to not function reliably. From then on, I did not try to use the heater any longer. And, remembering having seen a number of partial burned Beetle VW’s, which had inexpensive variants of this type of heater, I felt it best to forget about it.Headlights: The superfine H4 headlights on the car do get some moisture inside them when yhou travel any distance during a heavy rain. This evaporates again, and the drying out is of course helped by getting sun heat pointing at the front of the car. This moisture gets in behind the front lens and the reflector because the seal between these parts I marginal. The lens can be separated from the reflector body, but this is a complicated operation. I have done it a few times to clean the reflector because with some moisture settling on the reflector, some dirt tends to stick to it. Ditto for the inside of the lens. If you ever do this, use a digital camera and record the disassembly, so that putting it back together will be easier to do.You will need a very long Philips screwdriver, about 16” long, to deal properly with the screw in the bottom of the headlight rim, because of the angle involved and the car body below the headlight. This screw is a long sheet metal screw which treads into a ‘spring clip’ which clips onto a metal tab in the bottom of the headlight well. Originally there was some sort of machine screw there, but the nut for the machine screw just sort of corroded away.Driving Fast: During the early years, on several occasions, I was able to find the proper piece of road and conditions to ‘wind it up’ and keep the pedal to the floor. It would take a bit of time, and if cool air was present, it would get up to 125mph, at least on the speedometer.I always considered that quite an accomplishment and a very complimentary to the Porsche company. With only 2.2 Litre displacement and an official BHP of 125 at not too high a rpm, and with only the cooling fan and alternator taking a few HP, probably close to 100HP available to propel the car.In the 1970’s I had many dealings with Alberta Highways and one engineer wo had a Mini Cooper. He had owned this since new, and had just then completed a total rebuild of the engine and drive train. One day, when we were talking about ‘small cars and going fast’ he asked what the top speed of my 911 was, and I told him that it was close to 125mph. he said he thought his Mini Cooper could do better than that. So, real early on a Sunday morning we drove out to a not yet opened section of newly built highway 16 East of Edmonton and make two runs, one East bound and one West bound. We started side by side, and with windows down, we counted down from turn and took off. I stayed ahead of him both runs, but his Mini Cooper had a little longer breath because on both runs, the Mini ‘Cooper passed my when I was showing 125mph on the speedometer. All great fun and lots of good memories.Sportomatic: A great number of Porsche friends, when they hear about a 911 with Sportomatic, make disparaging comments about ‘how can you own a Porsche without a clutch pedal’. They just do not know what they are talking about. The combination of the torque-converter and the servo-operated clutch via the micro switches in the gear shift lever, proved a very practical and extremely reliable. Control is identical as if the car had a clutch pedal. An additional benefit is that the torque-converter provides 2 to 1 multiplier factor of torque, when starting from 0, and it gives an effective torque range in each gear of twice that of a car without a torque converter. This torque-multiplier factor is probably the reason why I have never been able in any other car, including a 1984 Porsche Carrera, to beat the overall travel time of a long trip, Edmonton to Vancouver or Edmonton to Winnipeg, of which I made many in the 1970 911T Targa. Those made in the 911T Targa were always one hour less than any other car I have driven for these long 11 to 12 hour trips.Michelin X tires: They were the tires originally installed on the car. They have to be the pinnacle of automobile tires ever. They provide a super smooth ride, exceptional road-holding capability and are very long lasting. I had a set of Pirelli tiers on the car for about three years and switched back to the Michelin X’s because the Pirellis seemed to get stiffer and more hard riding every winter, without getting softer when the summer came. They are not normally sold any longer, but they can be ordered and Michelin will supply them on their terms, which mean that you pay when you order and then wait for delivery, which can be from few weeks to many months.I will stop here. Owning the car and travelling with it around Western Canada and the USA was always a true pleasure, as were the processes and work involved with the restoration.Of course, one regrets parting with such a ‘fine machine’, because that is what this car really was. At the same time, I am glad that it is now part of someone else’s enthusiastic and appreciative ownership. Best Regards, HRAug 23, 1998Another letter from owner #2 to owner #3.Dear KF, While rummaging through some boxes the other day I found some more small spare pieces for the 911T Targa, which are enclosed, plus the following comment/recommendation regarding the Sportomatic shifting maintenance. You may want to specifically give this to whoever does your maintenance on the 911T Targa, and then have him do this once as year. This is not maintenance prescribed by Porsche, but common sense maintenance. In the bottom of the shifting handle inside the car is a micro switch, which the moment you move the lover to switch gears, closes a contact which then via a so called ‘shifting valve’ (I believe that I gave you a good working spare one), automatically operates the clutch via a vacuum servo. On the transaxle – this is the transmission /rear end – on the drivers side is a switch which is screwed into the transaxle and this switch is connected to the wiring harness of the shifting valve and the wires form the gear shift lever inside the car.The wiring harness connector for the switch is of the type which just pushes on to the switch and then kind of snaps in place. Now because there is generally oil fumes floating around under the car near the transaxle which some from the transaxle vent, these oil fumes tend to get into the connector and after some time begin to act as insulators between the harness connectors and the brass pins sticking out of the switch. What your maintenance mechanic should do, and if I were you I would stand there and watch him do all this, because he will probably think that this procedure is kind of nuts, when the car ion the hoist to pull the connector off the switch. Then to clean the brass pins sticking out of the switch with gasoline and then to scrub them with a small steel brush and probably shine them up with some emery paper. Next the brass female connectors inside the rubber harness have to be similarly cleaned. Again wash the inside with gasoline and then with a small stick with emery paper to try to shine up the inside of the connectors. I did this with a very small steel brush mounted in a Dremel tool. When both the switch and the connector are super clean and the brass contact shiny, only then put the connector back on the switch. If this is all done, you will find what when you switch the car when at a standstill, into first gear, the clutch will engage very smoothly. If the subject connector is dirty with oil you will find that this first gear clutch engagement sort of goes with a thump.Lastly, I would make sure that the mechanic does not use any of the so called spray bomb ‘contact cleaner’. All that junk does is to deposit some corrosive agents onto the brass connectors so they will make contact for one week. After that the corrosion usually becomes so bad that you lose contact completely, plus most of these spray bomb ‘contact cleaners’ are murder on the rubber that the brass female connectors is moulded in.Now on to the small parts and what they are for:The aluminium plate is a spacer for the door hinges. The two screws are spares for the ones which hold the headlights chrome rings in place. The flour black plugs are spares for the plugs in the rocker panels, the body part below the doors. The single rubber dongle with flat part, is a spare drain for the front trunk. If you lift up the spare wheel, or look underneath the car where the spare is you will see two of these hanging from the bottom of the car. Their function is to drain but mostly to keep the front trunk under negative pressure, so that you do not get fumes from the front trunk inside the car. They act as a sort of venture at speed. Only Germans build things like this into a car.The other two rubber dongles are spare drains for the ‘pot’ that the headlight is mounted in, inside the front fenders. Both the trunk drains and the headlight drains should be checked that they remain open and not become plugged with dirt. The round flat soft rubber plug. This is used in both doors. They fill access holes which allow tools to reach inside the doors to get at the window winder mechanism etc. Look at the door when open where the latch is and you will see them. This one is one of two which were not installed when I installed the doors after they were painted. They belong at the front at the top of each door, that part of the door which goes under the front fender when the door is closed. If you open a door and look sort of sideways you will see the holes. There is one on each door. The problem was and is, that you need to remove the door to put them in place, and that I just never did do. I tried someone with very long and nimble fingers buy they managed to push one plug inside the door. And I think it was the passenger door, so that is why there is only one here. The fact that they are not in placed doesn’t not really do any damage, except if you were to constantly drive through massive rainstorms, you may get more water then you liked inside the doors. This does not really matter because there are holes in the bottom of the doors where this water will run out. If you were to have the installed, I would buy a couple of new ones first. I have seen some and they seemed to be a better sort of plug than this one.Hoping that you enjoy the cars, Yours very truly HRHere is a log of the maintenance performed since 1997. The BMW 7-series is the pinnacle of BMW sedans. A big luxury sedan that is loaded with state-of-the-art technology to keep you safe on today's roads. Available in rear-wheel drive, or xDrive all-wheel drive, the 750i and long-wheelbase 750Li are powered by a direct-injection, 400-hp 4.4-liter, twin-turbo V-8 bolted to a six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control. The 750 has many standard luxury features such as four-zone automatic climate control, power sunroof, high-gloss wood trim, heated 16-way multi-contour seats, voice-activated navigation system on a 10.2-inch color monitor, power trunk lid, HD radio and BMW Assist emergency and information communications. Standard run-flat tires wrap 18-inch alloy wheels, while standard Park Distance Control, adaptive brake lights and steerable adaptive bi-xenon headlights provide active safety. High-tech options include rear and surround-view cameras, high-beam assistant, lane departure warning, blind spot detection, dual LCD screens for rear seat entertainment and ventilated front seats. For 2011, the 750 is unchanged, with the exception of a power trunklid and Comfort Access keyless entry becoming standard equipment. Source: Model Reviews Introduction The BMW 7 Series cars are some of the most dynamic and exhilarating large luxury sedans in the world. Completely redesigned for 2009, the fifth-generation 7 Series line expands considerably for 2011. The 2011 BMW 740i and 740Li are the first six-cylinder powered 7 Series cars since 1992. Also new for 2011 are the ActiveHybrid 750i and 750Li models, which combine power with fuel economy. For those who want more performance, BMW teams up with tuner Alpina to offer a new 2011 Alpina B7. The 2011 BMW 7 Series sedans comes in standard and long versions, the latter designated by an L in the numeric nomenclature. The BMW 740Li, 750Li and 760Li have a wheelbase that's 5.5 inches longer than that of the 740i and 750i. They're a little harder to parallel park, but they offer a ride that's even more luxurious and have considerably more rear-seat legroom. The long-wheelbase cars have their own roofline, and the silhouette is sleek. The body has no transparently gratuitous scoops or scallops, and the car's size and lines clearly say first class. The BMW 750i and 750Li feature a new-generation V8 engine, with direct fuel injection and twin turbocharging. This 4.4-liter V8 makes 400 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, awesome numbers for an engine its size, while using less fuel than its predecessor to get occupants around town. It's matched to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The BMW 760Li ups the ante with a 535-hp V12 and an 8-speed automatic. All-wheel drive adds all-weather capability to the 750xi and 750Lxi and, in our opinion, does so without ruining the sporty handling characteristics found in the rear-wheel-drive models. The ActiveHybrid 750i and 750Li employ a mild hybrid powertrain with the same twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 from the 750i, an electric motor, a lithium-ion battery, and an 8-speed automatic transmission. Total output is 455 horsepower and 515 pound-feet of torque. Zero to 60 mph arrives in just 4.7 seconds and fuel economy is improved by 15 percent. Fuel economy is good but not great at an EPA-rated 17 mpg City/24 Highway. That's close but not quite as good as the new six-cylinder engine. The 7 Series interior is classy and luxurious, as buyers should expect. It's like a roomy, still, richly appointed cocoon, protecting occupants from an ornery world, though some of the controls and features can be overly complicated. Just about every safety, comfort or convenience feature invented to date for the automobile is available on the 7 Series. Yet what really distinguishes these cars is their dynamic verve: a combination of response, acceleration, smooth ride and sharp handling that few large sedans can match. Weight-efficient construction and innovative chassis technology contribute to the lively driving dynamics that many expect from a BMW, especially high-end models like the 7 Series. All 7 Series cars come with BMW's Brake Energy Regeneration system, which captures energy lost as the car slows to charge the battery. Source: New Car Test Drive Walkaround The BMW 7 Series sedans look sleek and expensive, and for the price they should. What's better, virtually all of the odd, sometimes awkward design cues from the previous-generation 7 are gone. The 7 Series was redesigned for 2009. In front, the vertical bars in all 7 Series grilles are spaced wider than those on other BMWs, for distinction, though we're not sure it's very distinguishing. It doesn't make a car look more stylish by increasing the gap between its teeth. From the driver's seat you don't see that, anyway. What you see is a really nice power bulge on the hood, subtle and sweet. The 760Li has several discrete styling appointments to distinguish it from the 750Li and 750i. Its kidney shaped grille is trimmed with a wider chrome surround that is slightly concave. The 760Li's side gills, located where the doors meet the front fenders, have a chrome finish and V12 badges. The 7 Series looks best from the side or front three-quarter view. The hood is long but front overhang is short. Nice. The sheet metal contours, blending concave and convex surfaces, are still there, but they're more subtle than they've been on BMWs of recent years, and they don't shout for attention. The fenders are chiseled upward, nicely. This 7 Series has the maturity and sophistication appropriate to a car of its stature. The long-wheelbase L models have their own roofline, creating a different profile from the shorter wheelbase models. The L roof travels sensuously along with the rest of the car in order to keep it from looking like a stretched 740i/750i with a long tail. The result is a beautiful shape that also creates a tad more headroom. Also beautiful are the standard 14-spoke alloy wheels. We've seen many lovely cars that don't have wheels that meet the aesthetic standard set by the rest of the design. BMW pays attention. From the rear, there's little to tell the world that the BMW 740 and 750 models are remarkable luxury cars. The back end looks like any other car on the highway, with big taillights and a horizontal chrome strip. A small lip on the trunk lid only adds accent to the car's lines when viewed from the side. Maybe it's good not to attract attention by those behind. The 760Li is spiced up a bit in back. An additional chrome bar connects unique dual tailpipes below the bumper line. The 760Li's quad tailpipe tips are rectangular, and integrated in the rear air dam. The V12 model also comes standard with 19-inch light-alloy wheels, as opposed to 18-inch rims for the 740 and 750. The ActiveHybrid 7 has some special exterior characteristics. It gets unique aerodynamic 10-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels, badging and an exclusive paint color, Blue Water Metallic. The Alpina has more exclusive exterior content. It features 21-inch 20-spoke BBS wheels, front and rear spoilers that improve stability at speed, a unique rear valance, two double exhaust outlets, and a ride height that is lowered 15 mm up front and 10 mm in the rear. Source: New Car Test Drive Driving Impression From a dynamic standpoint, there's little to complain about when it comes to driving the BMW 7 Series. About 90 percent of the time, any 2011 7 Series model is a truly satisfying machine to operate: both amazingly comfortable and quiet, and impressively quick and agile for a sedan of its size and weight. That last 10 percent is a gray area and in that zone the driving can get a little annoying. Perhaps BMW, with the 7 Series, suffers from a problem of ambition. It's as if the engineers and designers have attempted to raise the bar in virtually every respect, and in doing so have made simple things, like the gimmicky gear selector and even the electronic turn signals, way more cumbersome or complicated than they need to be. The new inline six-cylinder engine is a godsend. It brings the starting price down almost $12,000 and is plenty powerful. The new 740i and 740Li use the N54 version of BMW's 3.0-liter inline-6. This twin-turbocharged engine produces 315 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque. It vaults the 740i from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.8 seconds while delivering fuel economy of 17/25 mpg City/Highway, according to the EPA. We drove the BMW 740i and found that it feels like a V8, and a good one at that. Despite the turbochargers, there is no appreciable turbo lag. Highway passing response is immediate and plentiful, and torque off the line is more than willing. With such an excellent base engine, the larger engine is harder to justify. The V8 engine in the 750i and 750Li models is brilliant, even incredible. It's all turbocharged horsepower, torque and smoothness. We can't say enough good things about the 4.4-liter V8. Not just the 400 horsepower, but the 450 pound-feet of torque at a very low 1800 rpm. It is flawless. BMW claims that the 750i will shoot from zero to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds, on par with sports cars like the standard Porsche 911, and we don't doubt it for a second. Fuel economy is EPA-rated at 15/22 mpg or 14/20 mpg with all-wheel drive. The V12-powered 760Li raises the acceleration bar even further. It's powered by a 6.0-liter turbocharged V12 that's turbine smooth, and it bumps output to 535 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque at just 1500 rpm. BMW reports a zero-60 mph time of 4.5 seconds. It feels like a jet engine pulling you forward with awesome power. Fuel economy is a thirsty 14/20 mpg. The 7 Series suspension is nearly as flawless as its engines, whether cruising in a straight line on a rough road, or tossing the big Beemer through curves. The 7 has the first double-wishbone front suspension ever in a BMW passenger car, believe it or not, and the package delivers what might be the best blend of ride comfort and handling response available in a large luxury sedan. The M Sport Package (optional) offers four suspension modes: Comfort, Normal, Sport and Sport Plus. The only problem is all those decisions. Using the Driving Dynamics Control selector located near the iDrive controller and E-shift lever changes the performance characteristics of the car in the areas of shock absorber firmness, throttle response, transmission shift characteristics, power steering assist level, and Dynamic Stability control points (how much the electronic stability control will allow the car to slide before it engages). The M Sport Package also adds 19-inch alloy wheels to the 740i, 750i and 750Li, with extra-sticky performance tires. The 750i xDrive and 750Li xDrive are the first 7 Series cars with all-wheel drive. While the AWD system is similar to that used in the BMW X5 SUV, on the 7 Series it's tuned more to enhance performance than to optimize traction on low-friction surfaces (though it can do that, too). The 7 Series xDrive more thoroughly integrates all-wheel-drive management with other electronic systems, like stability control and the 7's Active Roll Stabilization anti-sway bars. Like other all-wheel-drive BMWs, the 7's system starts at a 40 percent front/60 percent rear default power split. But when the driver applies power more aggressively, especially through bends, the xDrive 7 adjusts torque distribution to maintain the sporty handling dynamics of rear-wheel drive. Through a hard bend, its control system seeks a steady power split of 20/80 to optimize handling. On dry roads, regardless of drive type, the 7 Series is remarkably balanced for a car of its heft. Rear- or all-wheel drive, it's almost a toss up. With xDrive, the steering feels heavier than that in rear-wheel-drive models with BMW's Integral Active (front and rear) Steering system, and we like the heavier feel. But once the driver gets used to its lighter steering touch, the rear-drive 7 Series is livelier. It almost feels like a smaller car. The rear steering turns the rear wheels with the fronts in sharp bends and in the opposite direction of the fronts at highway speeds to improve stability. Distinctions are easier to find on a closed course, or in sloppy road conditions. Even with the anti-skid electronics switched off, the 750i xDrive does a lot more of the car-control work for the driver than the rear-drive 750i, balancing itself more readily with less need to be really delicate or active with the gas pedal. The rear-drive 7 Series requires a lot more work, and it asks more of its driver. While that may be exactly what enthusiast drivers want for track day, it's not the preferred set-up in a blizzard. Not many 7 Series owners take their car to track day, anyway. The gray area of 7 Series satisfaction and performance sits largely in the transmission. The 6-speed automatic seems over-engineered, or at least over-programmed. It insists on doing too many things for the driver, and that's in Normal mode. We're not talking about our usual frequent complaint, that the manual mode isn't very manual; we're talking about a relentless number of automatic downshifts. Basically, the transmission won't let the car glide. Around town, it almost feels like the emergency brake is on. Back off the throttle, and some program says: The driver wants to slow down. Let's help him! You're going 20 mph and ease off the gas for a red light, intending to coast there, and it downshifts so eagerly that you have to get back on the gas to get to the intersection. It's like the 7 Series is a pickup truck with its transmission in perpetual tow/haul mode. That's great on a race track, but a bit too tense for everyday loafing around. We had to accelerate to go down our steep hill, because the transmission held the car back so much. Going up a less-steep hill, one-half mile at 25 mph, it downshifted three times and up-shifted twice, all in an effort to keep the car in the optimum gear. It's like the transmission is compelled to use all six of its gears as often as possible. With all that engine torque, it makes no sense. There's plenty of torque in these easy situations to motor along in a lower gear. What's more, the kick-down shifts are often not smooth. Lurch is the word that popped up on our tape recorder, three times. Out on the highway, this annoyance goes away. It's only poking around town that the 7 Series can be unwilling to glide smoothly. It seemed better with Driving Dynamics Control in Comfort mode, so we suggest staying there, and avoiding Normal altogether. Normal seems like an inappropriate word to apply to this very special car anyhow. All 7 Series models except the 740i and 740Li are saddled with the federal Gas Guzzler Tax, ranging from $1,000 to $2,100 on top of the purchase price, but we averaged at least 19 mpg with a mix of city and highway driving during a couple of test drives in the 750Li. That, in our view, is acceptable for a car of the 7's size and performance. BMW is nonetheless aware of perceptions about efficiency, and to that end it has added Brake Energy Regeneration to all 7 Series models. Brake Energy Regeneration captures some of the energy lost as a car slows to a halt, much as the typical hybrid vehicle does. In the case of the 7 Series, that energy is used to turn the alternator, which charges the battery and supplies electrical power. In most gasoline engine cars, the alternator operates when the car is under power, using energy that could otherwise be used to move the car along to charge the battery. In the 7 Series, the alternator only turns when the car is slowing and the engine is essentially idling. When the 7 is accelerating or cruising, the alternator freewheels, so it draws no power from the engine, thus saving fuel over a traditional alternator. We drove an Alpina B7 and came away thinking the Alpina is the closest we should expect to come to an M7. We don't expect to see BMW build an M7 because its size and weight would prevent it from achieving the sporty character BMW expects in an M model. Having the Alpina B7 means they don't have to play that card. The Alpina was designed to combine performance with true luxury. It uses a tuned version of the twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 that makes 500 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. BMW says the Alpina is capable of reaching 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds, which makes it as fast as the 760i. Despite the performance tuning, the Alpina delivers its massive power smoothly and without a lot of ruckus. The Alpina B7 is also lowered front and rear, rides on 21-inch wheels, and features BMW's Dynamic Damping Control and Active Roll Stabilization systems. The suspension is tuned by Alpina to balance ride and handling, and it does so impressively. We found the ride quality of the Alpina B7 firm but surprisingly forgiving, considering its shorter springs and larger wheels. Handling is sharper than that of the other 7 Series models. Drivers can choose among Comfort, Normal and Sport modes to tailor dynamics to the situation. We have not yet driven an ActiveHybrid model. Source: New Car Test Drive Interior The BMW 7 Series interior offers the best contemporary automobile craftsmanship and technology have to offer. Unfortunately, it also offers some of the most complicated. Whether the good outweighs the bad depends on personal taste and predilection. We sometimes find it overwhelming. First, the good: Great interior lighting, and the world's best backup video camera, including those that incorporate top and side views. The doors open way wide, for easy entry and exit. The dash is low, thin and lovely, with a great instrument cluster featuring a clean, crisp speedometer, tach, temp and gas gauges. The large 10.2-inch screen with navigation and all its menus is very readable. The leather-wrapped steering wheel is just about perfect, and some drivers will find its audio controls close to salvation. Any 7 Series model delivers the luxurious feeling cars in this class are supposed to create. Comfort, whether in the front seat or rear seat, is superb in the long-wheelbase Li models. Short-wheelbase models have front seats that are just as comfortable. The difference is in the back seats: The standard models offer just 38.4 inches of rear legroom, compared to a luxurious 44.3 inches in the Li models. There's still enough space for most folks in the standard models, including people up to about 5-foot, 10 inches, even when tall occupants are up front. More good: luxurious leather, even in the base Nappa trim grade, and genuine polished wood available in several choices. We absolutely loved the stitched leather dashboard that's optional on the 750 models and standard on the 760Li. Other amenities exclusive to the 760Li include stainless-steel door entry trim with an illuminated V12 sill, Alcantara roof lining and sun visors, and individual inlays of exclusive burled walnut. We'll start the bad with the worst: The 7 Series has the fourth generation of BMW's point-and-click iDrive control, and it's accurate to call it the fourth attempt to get it right. The new version incorporates Menu, CD, Tel, Radio, Nav, Back and Option buttons around the central controller. These buttons cut down on the number of steps it takes to access various functions, but it's still awfully complicated. There are also eight programmable buttons that look like radio presets. They can be used as presets or to program commonly used functions, such as favorite phone numbers and important navigation destinations. Program those to your lifestyle and maybe you'll be golden. BMW boasts repeatedly that iDrive is clear and intuitive. In our opinion, it is not. This latest version is better than before but still bewildering, and it consumes enormous amounts of concentration while you're trying to focus on the road in front of you. We have, however, talked to 7 Series owners who have learned how to operate iDrive effectively, and some like it. We give iDrive the big thumbs down. We wish it would be replaced with something simpler. We never figured out how to listen to the radio and hear the navigation commands at the same time, unlike the blissfully easy to understand Dodge we tested the previous week. We couldn't blow up the navigation map nor find streets that might or might not have been there. We were dismayed by the array of questions that had to be answered when we pressed Menu. There are loads of options we never knew we needed or wanted, all with strange names that didn't describe any function we know of. Ditto with icons. BMW's redesigned, console mounted gear selector isn't much better. It looks like the joystick for a flight-simulation video game, and company engineers have re-invented the Park position, putting it where Reverse is on other cars. Generally, there are a lot of surprising and significant inconveniences inside the 7 Series. The seatbelt pretensioner annoyingly pretensioned us when we wanted to lean forward for visibility when pulling onto the highway. The standard climate control system offers up to four separate temperature zones, but we drove the 750Li during a heat wave, and the air conditioning on max couldn't make the cabin cool enough. Furthermore, it reset itself at 70 degrees each time the engine was shut off. Maybe we didn't program it correctly. Those wide-opening doors need a grab handle to easily close them, because without the optional soft-touch feature you can barely reach the notch in the armrest to pull them in. Cubby storage is in short supply, disappointing in such a big car. Not counting the spacious glove compartment, there are so few storage places for basic things that you have to use the cupholders. All we had was a micro cassette tape recorder, a set of keys, a garage door opener, and some bridge toll tickets, and it was too much to ask of our $100,000 car to find us spots to store them. Try to use the over-engineered center console, and there will be a small wing awkwardly flipped up under your elbow. Small door pockets help little. The 7 Series isn't the greatest for hauling big things, either. Its trunk is large compared to that of a compact sedan, but not when compared to the full-size luxury competition. With 14.0 cubic feet of space, the 7 Series trunk is smaller than those in the Audi A8, Lexus LS or Mercedes S-Class. Source: New Car Test Drive Summary The BMW 7 Series is the ultimate driving machine among big luxury sedans. It offers impressive performance from its brilliant engines. Underway, it feels solid, and its balance of smooth ride and sharp handling borders on amazing. 2011 brings more variants, including new six-cylinder models that bring the price of entry down considerably. A new hybrid delivers more performance without a big hit in fuel economy. The new Alpina B7 is a wonder of elegance and force. Whether you prefer to drive the ultimate luxury car or luxuriate in the ultimate driving machine, the BMW 7 Series delivers. A vexing interface detracts from a superb line of cars. My Camry runs great, I've driven it 15k miles since last year. Unfortunately I am not able to register it with the paperwork I have so I will be selling it strictly as a PARTS CAR. It has a few small door dings, and some minor scuffs on the bumpers but is overall a very nice car. The A/C is really cold, and it gets almost 30mpg on the highway. I would not hesitate to drive this across the country right now, but remember it does not have current registration tags and/or license plates. If you have a specific question about it don't hesitate to ask, but please do not bid unless you know how to attain paperwork in another state other than California or you want to use it for parts. 2004 Pontiac GTO The GTO was reintroduced in 2004 after a thirty year absence from the Pontiac lineup. They were built by GM Holden Ltd, an Australian subsidiary of General Motors on a Holden Monaro VZ chassis on the limited import of around 15,000 units. Mine has just under 107k miles on it, and is the desired Black/Black with a 6-speed manual! Sometime in its life an RKSports Ram Air hood and aftermarket trunk spoiler were installed. It also has Longtube headers, free flowing dual exhuast and cat converter delete (these 3 items being not legal for on-road use in CA), it is loud...just the way it should be! Fitted with an aftermarket hurst shifter, it is very comfortable to shift, and really moves out if you choose to do so. If you want to smog this car in CA, then the headers will need to be replaced with smog legal ones and catalytic converters will need to be installed... but if you live any other place than smog nazi California then you`ll get to enjoy the way she sounds and the increased performance! I would trust her to drive anywhere in the country. I just put brand new tires on the front (only 100 miles on them), there are no check lights on the dash and it'll get in the low to mid 20's mpg if you keep your foot out of it. Comes with a clean and clear CA title in my name and ready for transfer. Cons/Needs: ~Has a small Oil leak (haven't diagnosed from where) ~Clear coat is starting to fail on roof/trunk and tops of the fenders ~Lots of rock chips & scratches on the frontend (see pic) ~Driver seat stitching coming apart (common on these) ~6 Disc CD player... ehhh, it sucks....barely works ~Front bumper lower grill is included (in the trunk) ~The gas gauge just quit working a week ago ~Needs rear tires...
