I've put 90,000 miles on it. Its been a great car, but it is time to move on! For sale by owner: 1991 Volkswagen Jetta GL, a factory diesel! Made in Germany! Driven Daily! 291,000 miles on the odometer Titled in the state of Louisiana in my name! Description of 1991 Jetta GL: The Good: 1. 1.6 liter naturally aspirated diesel engine. Starts every time! Even during those nasty freezes during the winter of 2013! 2. 5-speed manual transmission 3. Towing hitch, receiver type! Brand: "Hidden Hitch". 4. Thule roof rack! 5. Just did a bunch of work to it, including replacement of all brake pads / shoes, wheel cylinders, steering ball joints, control arm ball joints, new front rotors. Replaced both of the plastic coolant flanges that bolt to the cylinder head. Replaced the plastic coolant flange that covers the thermostat with an aluminum flange (it will never crack on you!). Replaced all the rubber coolant lines. Front end alignment at Firestone (all this work done at 277k miles, April, 2013 or since that time) 6. Inspection sticker does not expire until May of 2016!!!!! 7. Tires 70% matching set. OEM size (185 75R14) 8. Includes mini spare, jack and lug wrench. 9. Aluminum alloy "Le Castellet" OEM VW wheels -- a matching set! 10. Doesn't even put out smoke while driving! Even when accelerating. 11. No breakthrough rust! (No "cancer" on the sheet metal parts). 12. Remanufactured diesel injection pump was installed at 228k miles! Bought it from "Jack" at VWdieselparts.com 13. Remanufactured injectors at 225k miles! 14. New clutch pressure plate, disc, throw out bearing, tranny input shaft seal and clutch rod seal at 269k miles! New clutch rod at this time also! 15. Oil changed every 3000k miles or thereabouts. I can provide buyer with all my maintenance records. 16. New fuel filter on the day this listing started! The bad: 1. Engine has some blow by. Drops a few drops of oil on ground when parked. Need to add about ½ quart engine oil per month. I had intended to do an "in frame" ring replacement, but have never gotten around to it. I bought a set of new standard rings, which will be included with the purchase. 2. The felt guides on the driver's window have worn out and the window tends to get sideways in its groove as you roll it up. You need to reach up with your hand and "help" it go up as you are turning the crank 3. The window trim on the rear doors has rusted and the bonded rubber on these pieces has started to separate. 4. The starter circuit shorted out a few years ago and the ignition key will no longer engage the starter. I tried to trouble shoot it, but gave up. This needs to be fixed by someone who knows more about the electrical system than I do. I installed a push button on the dashboard and this is how I've started the car for the last several years and it works fine. In one of the photos of the interior, if you can see two wires leading to a push button switch to the left of the steering wheel: this is how I start the car. 5. Front wheel bearings make noise even though they are brand new (just installed on 09/26/14). I've changed them three times, but they still make that drone sound which is accentuated when you turn around corners. This will have to be done by someone who knows how to do it better than I. Again: front wheel bearings are BRAND NEW, but they make noise and need to be redone. 6. Windshield has a 13 inch crack (in center of glass, right in front of rear view mirror) and a couple of BB dings (Note: inspection sticker does not expire until May, 2016). 7. Dents, scratches and surface rust as in the photos. Needs paint and body work, if you choose to go that route - I never worried about it. 8. For some reason, the door key will no longer unlock the driver's door. I have been unlocking the passenger door and reaching over and manually pulling up the knob on the driver door in order to get it unlocked. 9. Air conditioner does not work. It didn't work when I bought the car back in 2003, and I never attempted to repair it. Its all there though! -- in case the buyer wants to give it a go. 10. The outer CV boots are starting to show some cracking. Haven't broken open yet though! 11. Upholstery has a couple of rips. Dash is cracked in a few places. 12. During heavy rainstorms, it seems that a few drops of water find their way into the trunk. Have not figured out where its coming in. 13. One (1) of the center caps for the alloy wheels is missing. 14. The emergency brake boot is torn. 15. No stereo -- it did not have one when I bought it. I never installed one. 16. Trunk has some grease and oil deposits - needs a good cleaning. 17. Antenna broken off 18. The front grill is in good shape cosmetically, but a few of the plastic tangs that hold it on have broken off. I have attached it with zip ties and this has worked well for me for several years. 19. Sprayer for windshield washer is non-operational -- but its all there! Hose that leads up to sprayers got cut. I never tried to fix. Just needs some troubleshooting and repair 20. The little flip up plastic tabs that cover the jacking points underneath the doors: Three out of the four tabs are missing. 21. There is a small amount of gear grinding when shifting from first gear to second gear. I will double clutch sometimes. 22. The dashboard lights will not illuminate when the headlight switch is on. 23. I vacuumed out the interior and cleaned the dash, but folks, this car has seen some dusty conditions in its time and some dust remains. The interior could use a good shampoo and deep vacuum. 24. The front passenger seat has lost its teflon guides on the rails that scoot the seat backward and forward. This seat rocks a little - needs new teflon guides. They cost about $6

Diesel Vanagon! Turbo Diesel even! Purchased two years ago in November 2012. Fun, excellent shape '91Vanagon with freshly installed '94 Golf turbo diesel engine with only 78,000 miles on it. This engine is arguably the best diesel conversion for these vans due to it's great combination of fuel economy, power, and reliability. The van had a diesel conversion done before I bought it. It had a '93 Jetta TDI (Turbocharged Direct Injection) engine when I got it. That engine failed in November, so I replaced it this spring with a similar VW TDI engine once I found a good replacement with low miles. In the last two years I've had the following work done: - '94 Golf turbo diesel engine w/ 78,000 miles on it. (professionally installed this spring at the newer-ownership Trafton VW shop in SE Portland) - transmission (completely rebuilt automatic done by in River City Transmissions SE Portland) - new Bosch alternator - AC servicing - Coolant pipes (high end metal ones installed at Heckmann & Thiemann in SE Portland) - all hoses Features: - seating for 7 (two removable rear facing seats) - AC - two super strong heaters - very well sealed and no wind noise cab - high traffic removable rug protecting the excellent condition interior floor carpet - power windows and doors (I decided to replace the passenger side window with a manual crank opener when the electric opener failed, driver window is working fine as the electric that came with the Carat) - nice integrated retracting dashboard shade - a cool pop-out table - Yakima locking core roof rack for car top carrier or impromptu hauling - Great interior condition - perfect kid-mover van that actually looks cool - can sleep two adults on the rear fold down bed, and one or two kids under 10 (I built a removable front seat sleeping platform you can have that works great for a kid from 4-10 or so) Blemishes: Passenger side sliding door is dented, but operates and closes fine. Right side behind sliding door has a trim panel missing. Between 2 to 4 years ago the previous owner did the following repairs/updates. His words here: - 22 mpg - about 8 mpg more than the gas engine these came with. - runs almost emissionless when using bio-diesel. - gearing for the A T was changed so that the engine would run at lower RPM's when at highway speed, the way a diesel is supposed to. - installed Bilstein HD shocks all around - Gowesty carpet protectors in the front compartment and rubber mats. - upgraded with dual-batteries which can be selected (A or B or AB or OFF) with a marine grade switch under the passenger seat. It has an integrated inverter which is accessible under the passenger seat and has two AC110 sockets and 2 USB ports. - stereo has been upgraded to take a line in and has new speakers, an amplifier, and a subwoofer - Custom made some awesome, insulated curtains for the sides and back that work with the integrated front window screen - replaced the entire front wheel assembly (fall 2012): new rotors, bearings and pads - Radiator replaced (fall 2012) with brand new OEM parts - completely rebuilt injector pump - new oil pan - rear brakes overhauled (fall 2012)

For sale 1991 gti vr6 swap.This car started as a tornado red 91 8v gtiI purchased this car in 2007, it had been recently repainted corrado "flash red"It had a 1995 obd1 vr with the 02a 5 speed tranny . with the full 5 lug subframe 4 wheel disks and rear swing arm out of a donor jetta glx. It has a corrado slc master cylinder and pedal cluster. It also had the full mk3 dash with center console and 90' corrado g60 seats with red stripe interior panels and a one peice 8v gti back seat. at the time i bought it, it had no headliner. I have done many things since then. the first thing was i ended up replacing the block since the 95 vr had shot rings on cylinder 5. now the car has a 98 vr long block with the original 95 head and is still set up obd1.I have replaced the following items:vr long block obd2 100,000 miles estvr 12 v head "1995" all valves reground + autotech 262 cams. 20,000 miles since rebuidnew head gasket new timing chain tensioners new hydraulic valve liftersnew water pump new tensioner pulleynew oil to water heat exchangernew shifter linkagenew power steering rack with new inner and outer tie rod endsfull borla 2.5 exhaust kit with high flow cat and tubular headercoil overs (cant remeber the brand)new emergency brake cables with mk3 tubes.body repair:full passenger side floor replacement fully sealed and undercoateddriver side door panel rust repaired and painted. trunk floor rust repaired and resealed and undercoated.I replaced the rad support and have a quad round setup with cross hair crystal clear head lights. I also have a single round badge-less grill thats included.resealed unused holes in firewall and replaced steering rack/ colum boot (missing when i purchased the car) Replaced headliner and recovered with aftermarket cloth. *(needs to be done again as i used the incorrect glue) Completely replaced dash with another donor mk3 dash ( i did this since the dash that was in it was modified very poorly and looked like crap. it now sits flush and has a near stock appearance. (the vin plate on the dash matches the car) the heater controls function properly as i replaced the switch cluster. The ac does not work as i had been running the car without a condeser, compressor or any lines/ electric. I do however have all the components to make the ac function . the gauge cluster is the vr cluster from a 95 gti/glx (black gauges not white like the obd2 cars) i have replaced both the speedo and tach servos and the speed sensor in the tranny. It also has a near mint 14" momo steering wheel. I replaced both manual door window regulators and shortened the cranks to be used while the doors r closed (a problem with mk3 dash swaps)the car currently sits on bbs rims from a mk4 jetta wolfsburg. I also have a set of black 15" steelies.It has the late mk2 big bumpers with no fogsThe bad:has some rust forming around the bottom of the front and rear window sils.I began repair up front but it does need to be addressed. (the car comes with an entire extra rear hatch that can be swapped in to deal with the rear window.the front window has a crack and will have to be replacedthe headliner (as stated before) needs to be removed and reglued. also needs the sunroof headliner piece (i have never had one in this car)needs tiresneeds to be inspected but it has always passed with no issue for me as the motor is essentially stock.the interior panels are getting pretty rough from age/ water damage. probably due to needing door window seals. The paint was nice when i bought the car but since it was a rushed job it hasn't held up very well and is pealing in some places. there are some minor body imperfections on the bumpers etc as the car was my daily driver.the driver side seat has some wear though on the bolsters but otherwise is fine.the clear coat on the wheels is pealing (common on these bbs's) and 2 have minor dents in the rim (still hold air and are balanced) this is truly reliable car with a well done swap. It was my daily driver for years. Im only getting rid of it since i recently got a vanagon which I'm focusing on now. feel free to contact me with any questions i know the car inside and out.
