Here is a gorgeous 1955 Chevrolet Belair 4 door. First let me say I have a link to 100 pictures of the car below. You should just be able to click on the link and view a slide show. Hope they turned out great. :) I can’t say enough how great this car runs and drives. It cruises up and down the roads effortlessly and has plenty of power. Engine runs perfectly. The transmission shifts great. It has a new 350 Turbo Transmission that has less than 400 miles on it. Exhaust is all new also. It has a new distributor and electronic ignition. It has drum brakes and while they aren’t power they actually don’t take much effort to stop. It truly drives great. The exhaust is pretty loud and throaty. It sounds great. It has headers also. The engine is a Chevy 383 that the previous owner told has less than 10K miles on it rebuilt. I have a receipt for the head work and things like that also. It has a new Summit carb and intake. All fuel lines were replaced all the way back to the tank and a new fuel pump was installed and a new fuel filter. The tank was removed and thoroughly cleaned to get any debris that was in it out. Was refinished and looks great. It starts right up on the first crank and runs perfect. No smoke, or strange noises. Wheels are new and so are the tires. They complement the car well. I also had 2 freeze plugs replaced when I got the car. It also has a brand new starter too. Mechanically this car is ready to go cruise. Interior is in excellent condition. Carpet looks near new. Both front and rear seats are in excellent condition. Headliner is great. Dash is in great condition as well. All windows work great and glass is all in good condition. Even the smaller side windows work well. Doors all lock and close easily. All doors lock manually or with the key. I tried them all and they all operate like they should. It is a pet peeve of mine when a cars locks don’t work and the owner gives the excuse well if someone wants to steal it bad enough they will. That doesn’t fly with me. Hood and trunk open and close easy. Odometer says 3318. I am assuming it is 103318. The speedometer doesn’t work. I am assuming it is because it now has a Turbo 350 transmission now. The engine temperature gauge doesn’t work on the dash. There is a set of gauges below the glove box that shows the oil pressure and engine coolant temperature. It never runs hot and stays around 180 to 190. The oil pressure always reads strong too. Gauges work great. Brake lights work and so do turn signals. Head lights work too. Heater blower works too. It is a fairly recent paint job. I think it looks great. It isn’t an 8K paint job but is a nice couple thousand dollar paint job. Front bumper is brand new and the rear bumper is about a year old. The grill on the front is brand new. Just put it in the other day. The trim around wasn’t replaced. It is older and has pitting. The hood ornament is new also. There are a few imperfections that I took pics of one is the front trim around the logo the paint peeled a bit there and the other is on the passenger side Chevrolet logo. They used a lot of glue to hold the emblem on and you can see some glue residue behind the logo. I have some spare parts that go with the car too. I have the ring that operates the horn on the steering wheel. I have the paint separator trim. I have a nice trunk lid chrome emblem cover. I have the spare tire, jack and stands for it. Feel free to ask any ?’s. Please be serious though. I stay very busy and please respect my time. I can’t talk for an hour if you are just kicking the tires. I love to spend time with my family in my spare time so please don’t take that away from me. I will be happy to help in anyway though if you are serious. Thanks so much. PICTURES!!!! Click on the link Below and it will take you to 100 pictures I took of the 55. Thanks so much. http://s555.photobucket.com/user/f308/library/?sort=9&page=1 Please review all of the pictures provided. I included many detailed photos of this car from all angles. I have included everything I know about this car. I put up close to 100 pictures. However, if you have a question please feel free to email me with any questions related to this vehicle or the transaction. I encourage all inspections in person for serious buyer not tire kickers. No joy rides though. I will work with you in any way I can but please be fair. I am happy to meet any transporter and can make my schedule flexible to meet them. This is one BEAUTIFUL 1955 Bel Air sedan that started as a rust free laser straight body car that was carefully transformed into a powerful street machine! The perfect body on this classic was retained in stock form with the wheel wells intact. The suspension was upgraded to improve handling and to get the 580 horsepower to the ground. The inside wheel wells were tubbed to allow for the big Mickey Thompson 31x18.50 x 15” tires! A high quality 4 link suspension was installed to make sure this car sticks to the ground and handles the way it should. Power from the “Blown Small Block” is delivered through the Hughes Performance Turbo Hydro 400 “Street Rod” transmission backed by a Hughes 3500 RPM Performance High Speed converter. This awesome and streetable power is then delivered to the Ford 9” Detroit Locker. The engine is a 4-bolt 350 bored .040 so she has a 357 c.i. motor that was professionally built by Automotive Diagnostics Specialty, (ADS). As you can see by the long list of performance parts, only the best parts were used to build this bad boy. The mission was to build an engine that anyone could drive on the streets and not have to worry about it being overly radical. She tipped the dyno at 580 H.P. with 594 pounds of torque. With this set up she will impress the best but won’t break the bank either. The sound of this engine is unbelievable… The Jet Hot coated Doug Thorley headers aid in getting the hot gasses out of the engine into the great sounding Magnaflow mufflers and if you REALLY want the motor to come alive just flip the electric switch on the dash to open up the electric cut outs for a non-muffled race car sound. The engine has a “Cool Factor” of 10 out of 10 with the polished 6-71 Littlefield blower with 2-750 CFM Holly Carbs poking it’s head out of the hood for all to drool over. The Edelbrock performance fuel pump delivers the pumped gas to the carbs with MSD performance ignition system to deliver the spark. It comes with the MSD Pro-Billet performance distributer and coil, MSD Ignition box with a rev limiter and MSD spark plug wires. To make sure the engine and transmission runs cool it also has a large “Be Cool” heavy duty polished cross flow radiator with dual electric fans and a transmission cooler. The body is a 100% rust free car that is straight as an arrow with a stunning bright red single stage paint that was applied buy a custom race car and rod shop in Calif. by the name of “Paint and Place”. It also has tinted glass, front bucket seats and bench seat in back. The all new interior was installed by a local shop including new carpet, door panels, headliner and carpet in the trunk along with the battery. To keep tabs on the engine the car is equipped with Auto Meter analog electric gauges along with a boost gauge for the blower. It also has a B&M Pro ratchet shifter and of course a nice stereo and CD player to crank out some tunes. In order to make driving easier it also has power steering and a tilt steering with custom wheel and 4 wheel power disc brakes to help in the stopping department. The stance of the car is nice and level and shows of the level of care and professionalism that went in to building this car. It also has 15” Pro street polished wheels that gives it a Pro Street look to it. This car is a very well built car that took several years to build along with a big check book to finance this dream build. I’m ready to share my dream with the next “Caretaker” to enjoy and have fun with. I had this car built using professional shops to ensure that it was built correctly, it is not something built in a do it yourself garage. Parts List: Engine 350 Chevrolet four bolt .040 = 357 c.i. 1955 Chevy Resto Mod completely restored 10 years ago, it has always been garage kept only used once or twice a month. The paint, trim, and chrome are really nice. The paint has a few flaws as shown in last two pictures. The Car only has a few thousand miles on since Restored. Odometer displays reads 2405 which is what we've put on the new motor, the original mileage is unknown as when we picked up the head unit it had already been reset to 0. The original 265 V8 was replaced with a crate 350 V8 that's been given the Edelbrock treatment in the form of valve covers and 4-Barrel carburetor. Block was painted to match the exterior with a special order mix of PGP Electric Yellow high temp paint. As we were having issues sourcing parts for the suspension we opted for 2" drop spindles and a disk break conversion kit. Exhaust is custom to the car done by a local shop. Fuel tank replaced and re-coated along with a complete replacement of the fuel lines, the Lines were all updated from rubber to steel tubing. A 60/40 master cylinder was put in place to ensure resiliency in the case of a line leak or break (unlike the original equipment). All the Bushings, and Grommets were replaced if they could be done, This is not a frame off restoration, it is a nice body on restoration! The frame is clean, everything underneath replace except the bolts that hold the body to the frame . This is a Southwest Car so it is Rust Free! This is a turnkey driver! She drives down the road nice and sounds great, stops on a dime. The Doors all open and shut tight as they should, all the windows are in perfect condition and roll up and down perfect. If you have been looking for a Nice Old 55 Chevy for a great price here it is! Over $30k invested. I am very motivated to sale so make me a offer! I require a non refundable $1,000 deposit at the end of the auction! And the balance within 3 days of the auctions end. I can assist with shipping if needed. Thank You And Good Luck!

Here is a gorgeous 1955 Chevrolet Belair 4 door. I can’t say enough how great this car runs and drives. I am assuming it is because it now has a Turbo 350 transmission now and it isn’t connected. The engine temperature gauge doesn’t work on the dash. There is a set of gauges below the glove box that shows the oil pressure and engine coolant temperature. They work great. Up for sale is your chance to own a very nice convertible project and save a lot of money. I have spent countless hours on this car over a period of about four years and have invested a lot of money in this project that is very near completion. Sadly I must at this time part with this car for personal reasons. More than 100 larger photos at http://imgur.com/a/L8Ez7 High quality fiberglass body construction by Prototype Research http://www.prototyperesearch.com/55chev_walk.htm An original rust free chassis has been cleaned, inspected and an X member added to provide the required stiffness. Engine is a fuel injected 305 V8 coupled to a four speed automatic overdrive transmission. I have spent a lot of time and even more money finding and buying the parts needed to complete this car. Included are several expensive convertible only items you need to assemble this car. I am offering this car and countless parts for only one thousand dollars more than what the empty fiberglass shell would cost you with the crating charge ($750) they add. You would then need to find a chassis, and spend many thousands more for the parts that I am including in this sale. The body has been meticulously blocked sanded and is very straight and ready for primer (included) The engine, transmission and the complete wiring harness was carefully removed from a Chevrolet pickup with only 67000 miles on the odometer. The engine starts right up and runs smooth and strong like it should. I have full documentation for the truck including the VIN and original build sheets showing all options. This information and the fact that the original wiring harness was used (including the service diagnostics plug) means that any garage can plug in their scanner and service this vehicle. The wiring is not a cut up mess like many of the fuel injection conversions. All of the factory connectors remain in place. Any technician will be pleased to work on the drivetrain of this car as they can use the manual for the Chevy pickup. Parts list is at the bottom of the page… I am sure that I have more that what is listed ! Tittle / Registration documents: I have not registered the car as a convertible after swapping the original body for the fiberglass body. I do have the Ontario ownership documents (in my name) and the VIN tag for the donner 1955 car that supplied the chassis the body is resting on. Ontario does not issue vehicle tittles. The car is wet in most of the photos as I wanted to remove the dust and to show how straight the car is by giving the car a shine. Differences in color are areas that have dried. Location: The car is at my home in Belleville Ontario Canada on the north shore of Lake Ontario. Nearest major city is Syracuse NY. Importing a collector car into the USA is not an issue as I have sold a couple in past to USA buyers. Questions ? Please contact me through E-Bay message system for specific questions or to request my phone number if you prefer to discuss the car or arrange to inspect the car prior to purchase. Due to the number of pictures that E-Bay permits in a list ONLY A FACTION OF THE PARTS INCLUDED ARE SHOWN IN THE E-Bay PHOTOS. The windshield and door glass can be purchased from any glass shop for a reasonable price as they are the same as the hardtops. No radio , wiper motor or drive parts. trunk hinges, or interior other than the front seat. Many of the trim and dash items have been only temporally installed for photos as I would be removing them to primmer and paint the car. All of the GM factory electrical connectors are installed and clearly marked. The front fenders and hood have not been shimmed once again because they will be removed for paint. 1955 Chevy 210 2 Door Post Fuel Injected 383 Crate Engine, Tremec 5 speed, 4 Linked 9", Air Ride Technology Air Ride Over 225k Invested (With Receipts) Up for sale is a gorgeous one of a kind 1955 Chevy 210 two door post sedan. This is a customized beauty and really needs to be seen to be appreciated. This car has over 225k invested and as you can see has a LOT of custom touches that cannot simply be bought out of Classic Chevy, Ecklers, etc. From the custom air cleaner/firewall, to the radiator area, to the center console, you can rest assured you will never park next to another car like it at a car show. This car is a Restomod which means it has been given a lot of modern touches such as Air Conditioning, Power windows/Locks (with remote key fob since the lock cylinders have all been shaved), Power leather seats, Hidden CD Player with 6 speaker sound system, Street and Performance Electronic Fuel Injection, and the list goes on. This car was professionally built by Top End Performance in Lincoln, Nebraska. This high quality build has won multiple Good Guys Builder's Choice awards (Columbus, OH, Loveland CO, Kansas City, KS, Des Moines IA) been invited to Blackie's Fresno Autorama, and has also won Street Rod National's Street Machine Grand Champion 3 years, back to back to back. Here is a Overview of the car, tho I am sure I will be missing some things. This car has exactly 835 miles on the build. Almost every part you see listed was bought brand new and has 835 miles on it with exception of the 9" rearend housing and the modified Mark VIII seats. Engine - The engine was a new ZZ383 GM Crate motor topped with Street and Performance EFI. The entire EFI intake system was sent out to be chromed. The air cleaner and firewall setup you see is completely custom and is a result of hours of labor and $9,000 alone. The valve covers are actually air actuated and boltless if you look closely (one of the many small touches). A large amount of care was taken to make sure than the only connection you visualize from the engine to the engine bay is the upper radiator hose. Not a wire, a heater hose, an a/c line etc is left to clutter the engine bay, they have all been very carefully hidden. The firewall design and some of the custom covers help ensure that. The accessory system is a Billet Concept One Aluminum setup, that was custom chromed. The headers are modified and ceramic coated Doug's Headers (modified for the air ride). The rest of the exhaust is a true dual 3" stainless system with Magnaflow stainless mufflers exiting under the rear bumper. The exhaust has been custom routed thru the frame and under the body in such a manner as to attain the lowered stance available with the air ride. The radiator is a polished aluminum Griffin with custom covers and overflow tanks. Also under the hood you can see the chromed Wilwood master cylinder/booster. Another custom touch you will notice throughout the car, under the hood and elsewhere, if there is a bolt head or washer shown they are polished allen head staineless steel with custom machined and polished washers. You will see this for the hood hinges, the under the trunk lid/hinges, and many other places. This is just another small detail that setups this car apart from the rest. Transmission/Rearend- The Transmission was a brand new Tremec 5 speed with Tremec short throw shifter. It has a McLeod dual friction Street Twin clutch/flywheel setup in front of it. It is topped off by a custom shifter stick that utilizes the same wire mesh as the air cleaner and a Hurst 5 speed white knob. The driveshaft is a custom 3" Chromoly painted to match the car. The rearend is a 3.50 ratio Positraction Ford 9" shortened and 4 Linked with Moser Axles. Brakes /Wheels - There are 4 piston Wilwood brake calipers & 12.25" rotors at all 4 corners of the car. Master cylinder is a chromed wilwood under the hood. The Wheels are custom chromed Chip Foose wheels, 17" up front and 19" at the rear. Continental 295/30/19" at the rear and 215/50/17 up front. Air Ride / Frame - The air ide at all 4 corners is Air Ride Technologies. The 4 air ride canisters are all hooked to a central air tank and pump which is located behind a hidden compartment behind the rear seat (which is also where the batteries are relocated to). The air ride is ran with a remote key fob or with a pad that has been custom fitted into the console. It has 3 preset settings (to the ground, drive height, and 90% raised height for loading onto a trailer). The frame has been notched (and reinforced) at the rear of the car to allow the rearend to travel up into it high enough to allow the frame to sit as close to the ground as possible (view the photos). Interior- The interior was custom finished by Doug's Auto Upholstery in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. There is over $18k in just the upholstery work alone. The front bucket seats are Lincoln Mark VIII seats the have modified (shortened). The rear seat is completely custom built by Doug's. Also custom built by Doug's are the door panels, rear upper seat filler panel, rear seat side filler panals, the carpeting, the under dash filler panel, shifter boot, and Headliner. Like a lot of other touches on the car, console is a COMPLETELY HAND BUILT custom fiberglass piece with billet aluminum inlays (which house the window switches, locks and air ride controls). The cd player sits behind the Chevrolet plaque in the center of the dash, you removed the custom built hidden face by pulling out on the selector knob to the right of the cluster. The dash is a Classic Instruments white faced analog cluster. The steering column is a modified billet Ididit. The Steering wheel is a billet piece that was leather wrapped by Doug's with the same leather throughout the car. Wiring in the doors is done via touch contacts in order to elminate ugly wires or rubber boots in the door jams. The trunk was also custom finished by Doug's. It has a false rear wall that hinges down and allows access of the air ride equipment and the batteries. There is also a compartment door in the floor of the trunk which holes an air hose that allows you to fill the tires in case of emergency. Beneath that compartment are two battery post terminals which stick out below the body and are capped. These posts allow you to charge/jumpstart the car in the event of a dead battery that keeps you from opening the trunk. Exterior Body/Trim - All of the panels have been gapped to the exact same width and the car has been PERFECTLY straightened. There is $36,000 invested in just panel gapping and body work alone. All new side glass, window and rear glass were installed. The stainless trim was sent off and professionally straightened and polished. Door locks and trunk hardware were removed. The locks are remote activated and the truck is remote air actuated. The bumpers have custom modified bumper guards that were reduced in size and custom fitted to bumpers for a cleaner than factory look. There is a Rocky Point gas filler door that is remote activated, it hides the gas tank filler behind the driver's rear tail light. The paint is are completely custom modified one of a kind tan and creme colors. The car spent over 3 weeks in the paint booth alone. All of the colors match from panel to panel perfectly. The custom and unique colors of the car attract A LOT of attention at car shows due to the fact that it is not your typical red/white or silver 55. Indoor Display- Included with the car is a custom indoor car display which is Racetech black, red and gray checkered flooring. The "fencing" around it is custom built and chromed. The stands for the pipe are made to mimic the gear shifter and utilize the same meshing that is used in the air cleaner and the gear shifter of the car. There is also a tripod stand to place a spec sign on that is custom made to match the gear shifter and pipe stands. All chromed stands with stainless polished piping. Overview - As you can see the are a lot of very high dollar parts in this build. There has also been a lot of thought put into the presentation of the car and the continuity of everything involved in the design. A lot of custom touches, some significant and some that it takes a good eye to notice (like the valve covers for example). There are a lot of 55s on the market, but one thing I can guarantee, you will never pull up next to another one like it at a car show. I have included the limit of ebay's allowable pictures. If you are a seriously interested buyer I have many more I can send. I can also take pictures as requested by an interested party (though you may have to allow me some time to get to it as its under a car cover and a sealed plastic bag in climate controlled storage, as it has been stored since completion). Shipping/Terms - Shipping will be at the buyers expense and to be set up BY THE BUYER. The car is sold as is where is. I strongly urge the buyer to make the trip here to see the car in person. I would only expect someone making a purchase of this size/nature to want to see it in person for themselves. Car will not leave my possession until a certified cashier's check has been cleared and verified by my bank. At this time i am NOT interested in any trades, cash only.

The matching door and side panels are rolled and pleated with the raised Bow Tie on the flat section of the panel. The dash board has the original Chevy Row Tie grill work, glove box door, radio (non-working, the stereo is in the box) and a digital dash system. A complete set of new tinted glass was purchased from Vintage Glass Co. and installed using all new window felts and sweeps and rubber front and rear glass seals. A solid arm windshield wiper replacement unit by RainGear Co. was used to rid the car of the obsolete vacuum cable model. Heating and air conditioning unit was an OID Air Products style and was ordered to incorporate the use of the original dash control panel. Body shell and door cavities were lined with a foil backed sound deadening insulation to control outside road noise making heat and AC more efficient. Many specialty custom features are also incorporated into the overall look of the 55 Chevy and have greatly enhanced the appearance, drivability as well as the value of the car. 1955 chevrolet Bel Air, 10 miles, What you have here is one besutiful 1955 Chevrolet. It is a true touring car that combines the quinecential "Hotrod", a legend, with all the most modern conveniences that makes this car not only up to date but a comfortable, gorgeous great driver. So for the indivual that wants a special car, one in which all the work has been done and one that there are no futher adjustments/tinkering to do, so you can leave your tools in the tool box and enjoy driving a fantastic car, this might be the car for you. The dazzling pearlized red over pearlized cream paint and laser straight body stands out as a nostalgic reminder of the two tone iconic cars of the 1950s. This car is a resault of a well thought out plan that brings modern components like the all "New" Keisler engineerings Rally Sport 600 Five speed manual transmission rated at 600 HP and 600 pounds of tourque to the build sheet. This transmission was 3 years in design and manufacturing and is the first NEW major five speed transmission on the market in years. It has more new features that we have room for here but one outstanding feature that needs mentioning is the synchronized reverse gear, no more grinding reverse. Shifting this transmission seems to take you back to another area of muscle cars and Muncie 4 speed transmissions. The gearing is absolutely ideal! It has a 2:80 first gear and is mated to a 3:70 geared rear end. How about awsome block to block performance and then cruising at 60 mph and have the motor working under 2000 rpm. Thanks to a .67 overdrive gear. All this while you are enjoying Vintage Airs (cable less system) of ice cold air. The a/c controls are integrated in the original 55 controls. A sea of beautiful stitched red vinyl interor and an auto world of creature comforts add to your enjoyment. From the gorgeous hand rubbed dash to the striking Dakota Digital instrument panel where you are kept informed of all the cars pertinent information, speed odometer, tachometer, fuel, heat, gas, voltmeter, your hands are on a down sized 15" 1960 Impala two tone steering wheel. The steering wheel is fitted to a (GM copied GM parts) tilt column made by CJs Rods and Customs. The actual steering is handled by a new, concept One recirculating ball power steering box which makes the car handle like a new car and not like the old (too soft) 605 Monte Carlo steering boxes, even better than rack and pinion steering. Futher comfort and safety in the drivers seat is enhanced by the 3 point seat belts while you sit on over stuffed seats using form fitting medium density foam from Ciadella Interiors. The red vinyl seats are stitched to the award winning "Andy Boy Design", created by Ciadella interiors in arizona but stitched by a local upholsters. Futher comforts are the power windows and the latest Stereo radio aided by 4 powerful Kenwood speakers and a 6 CD player changer mounted in the trunk. So we dont forget, we sent the clutch and brake frame to california and back to Williams Classic Chassis to be remanufactured to madern specs so as to eliminate any possible future problems/failure of the splinew on the clutch rod letting loose and then losing your clutch. The stance of the car is brought about using Williams Classic Chassis 2" dropped spindles (no fending rubbing with these) and rear springs with the reversed eyes for an additional 2" drop in the back and sitting on 5 leaf springs. The front sway bar is a massive 1 1/8" thick. The frame was done off car and is painted gloss black with an added transmission cross member and a special round steel rear cross memberfor the shocks to hang from. The battery is fitted in the trunk with Taylor cable ends on the inside of the frame to the starter. The engine compartment is the resault of much design and work to bring about a gleaming look. First the motor was painted while on the engine stand the same basic color of the car, red pearl mist. Then all factory fasteners for both the engine area and the sheet metal were replaced with polished stainless steel. Here is a list of specific items used: Chromed souble master cylinder, valve covers are polished aluminum by street performance, the intake is a performer by Eldebrock and is an air gap and an Endura shine, water pump cover is polished aluminum, as ia lower pulley. The sanden a/c compressor is polished aluminum. The headers are by Hooker and they are aluminized. The hood hinges are replacement polished stainless steel and the hood side struts are polished 304 stainless steel. The motor itself is a new Pace chevy 350/350HP with the addition of Harland Sharp roller rockers. Fire for the motor is by Mallory Unilite and the motor is more than enough to show off at the car shows but yet mild enough thanks to a big overdrive gear to drive across county without having to make unnecessary gas stops. Thus you have a True Touring car. Its difficult to make long inexpensive drives using blowers and large CI motors. Every possible thought was given to cooling the car and especially thought was given to sitting on hot days waiting in line to get in a car show. The largest down flow Griffin Aluminum Radiator with 1 1/4" tubes were used with 14 fins per inch and the fins are louvered for extra cooling. The tubes in this radiator are the same size 1 1/4" wide , as the tubes being used in the new cross flow radiators. Then twin fans were installed using electrical relays so as to pull the electric properly. They operate by a sensor installed in the thermostat housing and when the temperature hits 180 degrees the fan kicks on. These fans pull 2780 CFM and will easily cool this car on the hottest of the days. The engine compartment, inner fenders, firewall all have the same high quality buffed finish of the penalized red which is a 2011 cadillac color. This paint garnishes the chrome, polished aluminum and stainless steel on and around the engine. On the underside of the hood is a replacement baffle of polished aluminum by Eddie Motor Sports and the side hood braces were replaced with polished 304 stainless steel by M&M stainless. Very little used pieces were used on the car and only when new items were not available or if new items were not up to the original refurbished pieces. This car showed only 68,000 miles on a non-working odometer. The floor of the car is all original except the seat braces on both sides which were replaced. Both quarters were replaced along with pieces around the tail lights. All glass in new easy eye. There is much more to see but ill save that for the pictures. This car is exactly the kind and quality of a car tha GM was unable to produce in 1955 but could easily produce today. Given the intrest in these cars today as well as the sales of GMs nostalgia truck these days, one wonders why they did not produce a limited run of the modern 1955-57 Chevrolet. 1955 Chevrolet Belair Hardtop I have owned this 1955 Chevrolet Belair hardtop since 1983. It was built at the Van Nuys, CA plant in May, 1955. Always a desert Arizona car, I purchased it in Douglas, AZ, a small town on the Mexican border. The original colors were turquoise and white, with a matching interior. Its original drivetrain was a 265ci V8 / 3speed manual transmission. Between 1992 and 1997, I performed a complete body-off-the-frame 1400+ hour rebuilt of the entire car. If you’re are truly interest in it, you will appreciate the detailed information that follows. If you’re just passing through, you’ll probably get bored and move on. Sorry to have wasted your time! J Upgrades made during the rebuilt include; 1995 GM ZZ3 350ci engine, turbo 350 automatic transmission, power steering, power front disc brakes, air conditioning, lowered front suspension and dual exhaust. The paint color is GM Medium Garnett Red Poly. The roof color is GM White Diamond Pearl. The interior paint color is Dark Slate. The paint is PPG Deltron Basecoat/Clearcoat. After completion in 1997, it was judged three times in 1000 point competition; 1997 Classic Chevy Int’l Convention, Reno, NV – 982 points & “Platinum Award” 1999 Bowtie Chevys Int’l Convention, Ventura, CA – 990 points & “Gold Award” 2002 Classic Chevy Western Nat’l Convention, San Diego, CA – 999 points & “Platinum Award” (High Point car, also awarded “Best of Show”) This classic has been a magazine feature car of both; Classic Chevy International (CCI) – January, 2003 Bowtie Chevys (BTC) – January, 2000 Since then, it has been maintained in show condition, driven locally and enclosed trailered longer distances. It has been driven less than 7800 miles since the restoration was completed in 1997! When I purchased the car, it had been built as a reliable driver for the owner’s wife. It was painted gypsy red and had a 1955 6cyl/powerglide combo. It was a solid, complete and well running driver. As a member of Desert Classic Chevys (Phoenix, AZ), I used the car for local events and car shows, including the 1985 CCI Western Regional in Flagstaff, AZ. After moving to Southern California, I used the car for events and activities with my local club; Classic Chevys of Southern California. After attending the 1991 CCI Western National Convention in San Diego, CA, the decision was made to completely rebuild the car. The build would be to my personal preferences, with a goal of testing it, and my work, against the CCI 1000 point judging sheet and the high level of quality displayed at the top points level. From the beginning, the entire restoration process was documented and cataloged. I followed Harold Louisiana’s book “How to Restore Your 57 Chevy” as a guide for the process. I kept a calendar on the wall and documented, each day, what I worked on/started/completed and how many hours I worked that day. The calendars, along with every receipt, are going to the new owner. I also have photo documentation of the entire rebuild. The body was completely hand stripped (including trunk, firewall, floorboard, etc.) to bare metal and the original undercoating was hand removed to reveal the rust-free metal underneath. The hood, trunk, doors and various interior pieces where chemically stripped to bare metal. The frame and all chassis components (rear end, springs, A-arms, steering, etc.) were also chemically stripped. There was no rot repair needed anywhere on the car! A few spots in the trunk, floorboard and over the headlights had minor surface rust. The passenger side rocker panel had an old accident repair, which was replaced with “best quality” reproduction sheet metal. The seams on the firewall were smoothed. When filler was needed in any area, “All-Metal” (a high-end filler that contains metal and works like lead) was used. The insides of the doors, trunk lid, fenders, rocker panels and rear window “lower” areas, along with the floorboard and trunk floor were coated with POR-15 rust-preventative sealant and primed for paint. The underside and firewall were sprayed with self-etching primer. The underside, firewall and trunk were painted with PPG acrylic enamel. The dash and misc. interior parts received the self-etching primer and were also painted with PPG acrylic enamel. The outer surfaces of the body, doors, fenders, hood and trunk were sprayed with self-etching primer and followed with multiple coats of primer-surfacer. Between coats, the panels were long-block sanded to a smooth, even surface. The roof was painted in a PPG 3-stage pearl basecoat/clearcoat urethane. The body was painted in a PPG basecoat/clearcoat urethane. The clearcoat was wet sanded down to 1600 grit and buffed to the final finish. (Note: I always thought the outside sunvisor was an awesome accessory, plus you rarely see the hardtop version. I stumbled across this NOS visor (still in the GM box) under the table of a toy vendor at the Pomona Auto Swap Meet. He didn’t know what he had, and I couldn’t pay him fast enough! Thus, I added it, plus the required dash traffic light viewer, to the build.) The engine is a new GM ZZ3 350cid/345hp crate motor, which uses all new components, including the block, aluminum heads, long water pump and an HEI distributor. I topped the engine with a new Holley 750cfm carburetor and GM “ram horn” exhaust manifolds. The transmission is a turbo 350 from Performance Automotive Warehouse (PAW) and is a heavy duty “RV” build with an 1100rpm stall converter. The dual exhaust system was built and installed by Thermal Research And Development Exhaust Systems. It is constructed of 2 1/2” aluminized metal, mandrel bent, and exits the back of the car similar to the style used on the Nomad. The power steering is a “605” unit, with the original steering column adapted to fit. The frame and chassis components were all powdercoated gloss black. Carrera gas shocks are used, along with new lowering front coil springs. The brakes are power disc (front), using a kit from CCI with all new parts. The rear gear is a rebuilt 3:31 unit from a ’57 Chevy. The interior is a kit designed and sewn by Ciadella Interiors, using medium grey fabrics. The seat frames were completely rebuilt and extra insulating pad was laid on the floor before the carpet was installed. The glass is a tinted, matched kit. All interior chrome trim pieces are “best quality” reproduction items. The A/C is an “Old Air” brand R-12 system designed for 55-57 Chevys. It has held its charge and blown cold since installation! It has a small Stewart-Warner temperature gauge and a USA-1 AM/FM Cassette (remember those!) in the dash. The rebuilt original electric wiper motor does work! The entire car was rewired using the best quality original reproduction wiring kits and looks factory original. The wheels are original 15x7 Chevy Rallyes, powdercoated medium grey. The tires are Hoosier P235/60R15. The rocker mouldings and gravel shields are reproductions. The rest of the stainless is original. It was straightened and polished by an “old-school” SoCal craftsman to a “better than reproduction” finish. The front bumper is the original 1-piece California bumper. The rear bumper is an original wagon 3-piece bumper. The accessory bumper and grill guard are original to the car. Everything was triple-chrome plated by Lemon Grove plating in San Diego, CA. Every hinge, latch, spring and other cad piece was re-plated. (Note: Back in the 90’s, CCI offered “good” and “best” quality reproduction parts. Every repro part purchased for this car was the “best” quality! Today (in my humble opinion), many of the reproduction parts are not available at the level of fit & finish that I used during this build.) Everything on the car works wonderfully….though the original electric clock can be finicky….and I could never get the speedo gear indicator to line up with the turbo transmission shifter :) As I said up top, I built this car to meet my personal preferences. I wanted a car that maintained the timeless, classic looks of the 1955 Chevy; one that would not go “out of style”. I wanted it to look like Chevrolet could have built it this way. I used genuine GM parts whenever possible. I wanted it to ride well and be tight, but to have the feel of a real 1955 Chevy (no Corvette subframes, air-ride suspensions, or computer controlled engines for me). The car was built to last forever! Extra steps were taken whenever the final results could be improved. I was aware of shortcuts that professional shops can take to reduce time and costs, in order to improve profits. But I didn’t have to make those choices. Ultimately, the finished product was better than I could’ve ever imagined! I also mentioned that I wanted to see how my work would stand up to the 1000pt judging sheet, at a time when big money was behind the CCI show winners. At the completion of this restoration, I had performed all disassembly, preparation, paint/bodywork, restoration and assembly in my home garage. It was truly “by owner”. After winning “Best of Show” and scoring 999pts in 2002, I was ready to move on to other things and enjoy my little ’55. Now it’s time to move on again and I am confident that the car will bring joy to someone else for many years to come……. (Note: At the time I scored 999, no car had ever scored a perfect 1000pts in CCI judging. I lost one point, when one of the judges deducted a point from every car in the class for “tail lights misaligned” and convinced a second judge to follow. The third judge did not deduct the point. Everyone in the class agreed we didn’t know what the issue was, so the “problem” could never be rectified. It wasn’t until sometime later that a car scored a perfect 1000 pointsg.) In addition to the car, the buyer will get all records of the restoration, receipts and photos taken during the process. Also, all judging sheets, award plaques, Platinum & Gold certificates, display signs and magazines in which the car has appeared will go to the new owner. The car can be driven anywhere without issues. I will assist the buyer with shipping the car (I highly recommend Reliable Carriers: their enclosed transportation is first class and worth the extra cost). Alternatively, I can probably deliver the car using my enclosed trailer within 1000 miles of Bend, OR, for $1/mile (one way). Please look over the pictures and ask any questions. I know every inch of this car inside-out! Inspections welcome and recommended. Buyer pays $1000 deposit within 3 days of auction close. Balance due and payment must clear before the car will be released.
