Some background information on the 2002 Ford Thunderbird:The Ford Thunderbird is a car manufactured in the United States by the Ford Motor Company. Ford described it as a personal luxury car. 2002-2005 "Retro Birds"In 2002 a new Thunderbird launched; this Retro Bird was again a two-seater and received the model's third Motor Trend Car of the Year honor. It was also nominated for the North American Car of the Year award that year. The new Thunderbird was based on the Ford DEW platform, shared with the Lincoln LS. It followed the recent trend for nostalgic recreations of old-fashioned (or "retro") styling (see VW New Beetle, Chrysler PT Cruiser), being a recreation of the 1955-1957 two-seat Thunderbird in a modern style. Available only as a convertible with a removable hardtop and, according to automotive writer Jerry Flint, the new Thunderbird "turned heads wherever it went."Though the Retro Bird body styling never changed, exterior and interior color packaging was inconsistent from year to year. For 2002, the car was available in bright red ("torch red"), bright yellow ("inspiration yellow"), and turquoise ("Thunderbird blue"), all reminiscent of 1950s colors. Furthermore, "retro" two-tone interiors (black and the color matching the exterior), were paired with these exterior colors.

To start with, let me first say that I am listing this modified Bill Frick 1957 Ford Thunderbird for a well-known classic and muscle car dealership and in doing so, I will be acting as an agent for this dealership. The owner, who is a friend and someone that I have known for over 20 years, founded his dealership in 1996 and has been a veteran of the car business for over 30 years. All of his vehicles are chosen for the highest standards and quality. A careful and complete analysis is done on every one before they offered for sale. If you want an honest and complete description via telephone, please feel free to call Roland at 603-361-3693. As an FYI, the modified Bill Frick 1957 Ford Thunderbird is located in Manchester, New Hampshire, just 15 miles from the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport. I understand that there is a lot of information in my ad. I also understand that this may be boring to the person who is just looking and not buying. However, for the person who is looking to buy and spend their hard earned money, I feel that there is never too much information. As to myself, I am not a dealer, just a (66) year old kid that loves muscle cars. For my work, I am retired from managing a Correctional Facility here in Maine and had worked for the Maine Department of Corrections for (40) years. I am also a respected member of my community. I mention this only because of the value of this car and so that prospective buyers will have some idea as to who they are dealing with. Also, please check out my eBay feedback which is 100% with (1,139) transactions. Many of those have been muscle cars which I have sold to individuals all over the country as well as Canada, England, France, Switzerland and Australia. INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS ARE WELCOME WITH A DOWN PAYMENT VIA PAYPAL AND THE BALANCE VIA WIRE TRANSFER ONLY. Who was Bill Frick? Bill Frick was a gifted early model mechanic and fabricator many years before the term "Hot Rodders" was used. Well known in the late 40s by his custom engine conversion packages out of a little shop in Long Island NY. In 1950, when the new 331 V8 OHV overhead valve Cadillac engine was introduced, he offered a conversion package to swap with the 1950 Ford flat head engine which would increase the horsepower tremendously. It earned the name Fordillac, which became famous among the early gear head "hot rodders". In 1953, the same 331-V8 Cadillac engine was offered for the engine consumption in the Studebaker for $1,500, also known as the Studellac. The Studellac was capable of speeds of 125mph and accelerated form 0-60 in 8.5 seconds. Bill Frick Motors Inc. was an exclusive distributor of Kieft Sport Cars, exclusive Long Island dealer for Allard Motor cars, an MG and Morris Minor dealer. He was involved in building race cars and partnered with Ted Tappett, who then became a well-known racer in the Lemans 24 hour race circuit. Also, Bill Frick Motors was heavily involved in Nascar. The Frick-Tappett conversion Cadillac engine in a Ford made them famous among the performance gear heads, claiming up to 25mpg at cruising speed and 0-80mph in 15 seconds. Very sophisticated for their time, Bill Frick built a tubular air craft design chassis in the 1949 using a Cadillac 331-V8 which they called the "Le Monstre". It ran in Lemans and was driven by Phil Walters, known as Ted Tappett and placed in 7th, according to our research. Well known Briggs Cunningham was involved on the financial side of Bill Frick Motors Inc. and also drove the "Le Monstre". Interestingly enough, the car is still shown today. A private collector owns the car and shows it at car shows such as Lime Rock CT. Here is the information on this wicked, super rare modified Bill Frick 1957 Ford Thunderbird: This unique single family owned thunderbird is straight from an estate, stored since 1999 in dry storage. According to our research, this is a very unique and rare example of one of Bill Frick's conversions. There were only three (3) Thunderbirds built by Bill Frick Motors, however, only one which had the Pontiac 389ci engine. When the car was purchased new in Lowell MA, the owner of the car was a big time drag racer. He wanted to build a car that would blow the doors off anyone who would come against him. He sent the car to Bill Frick, in Rockville Centre NY, for a performance upgrade and engine swap. Originally, a special dual McCulloch blower set up was installed with a special panel for the blower solenoids. However, the Paxton McCulloch system was aborted and sent back to Paxton and the car ended up with an Offenhauser aluminum dual quad intake topped off with two Carter 4-barrel carburetors. Bill Frick Motors gave a $500 credit to the 312 V8. Also, some modifications had to be done to the hood of the car to make provisions for the dual supercharger system. Three bulge style tear drops were dollied by hand and refinished in black lacquer. In the final version, Bill Frick Motors used a modified 1959 Pontiac engine. When owned by Al Ornella of Jack and Al’s Esso in Lowell Massachusetts, Al would gladly race any takers but not before the challenger put down $500. This was Al’s minimum bet before he would even start up his T-Bird. For the record, it was said that Al was never beaten in any of these races. It is our understanding that only three of these conversions were completed by Bill Frick and this particular 1957 T-Bird is the only one left of the original three. We clay barred the exterior and it came back beautifully but we think it's best to preserve the originality of this car as a true time capsule without changing too much. Super clean exterior body and paint. Looking over this rare example, the car has a solid original body with no signs of any rust or repair what so ever. The exterior body of this car is perfectly straight with no ripples, dings or dents. There is a light patina in the lacquer in some areas of the car. In the front header area, near the driver's side light, you will notice the paint has flaked off in that area. Also, some lacquer cracking appears around that area as well. Other exterior notes of interest are: · The chrome bumpers are original and are considered excellent condition; · The glass is also original to the car and is excellent throughout; · Bright work, emblems, front grille, headlamps, tail light bezels are all excellent; · The original paint in areas of the trunk, hood and door jambs have a nice clean appearance; · The weather strip is original with no signs of being dried, cracked or weathered; · The doors, hood and rear deck lid open and close perfectly with proper alignment to all of those areas as well; · The windows roll up and down effortlessly; · The factory continental kit and trunk area is solid and original with the spare tire, jack assembly and trunk mat considered to be in fair condition; · White Side Wall tires with factory hub caps; · Hard top with port-hole windows that has excellent glass and a nice original white headliner. Interior: The interior of the car is all original including the carpet. Note the black with white insert bench seat that does have some dried cracks on the driver’s side. The door panels and instrument cluster are in great shape. The dash board is original with no cracks. There is a custom Hurst shifter mated to the fine working Borg Warner 3-speed gear box with Over Drive. Other interior notes of interest are: · Vintage Stewart Warner gauges; · McCulloch vacuum gauges and switches; · Town & Country am radio; · Power brakes; · Crank windows; · Telescopic original steering wheel with no cracks noticed; · No power steering. Engine: They used a modified 1959 Pontiac 389ci engine, completely balanced. The Paxton McCulloch system was aborted and sent back to Paxton and the car ended up with a dual 4BBL Offenhauser aluminum intake and two Carter 4-barrel carburetors. Other engine notes of interest are: · Completely balanced; · Forged true pistons; · PC rings; · Clevite bearings; · Full floating wrist pins; · High pressure oil pump; · Relieve combustion chamber; · Ground out ports: · Adjustable rocker arm studs; · Howard cam and lifters; · Special log-type intake manifold; · 6 Rochester carburetors; · Lightened and polished valves; · Spaulding special flywheel and clutch; · Fuel pump and over drive was installed under the dash inside the car; · Stewart Warner tachometer installed; · Manual spark control installed; · Special clutch linkage; · Special throttle linkage; · Custom engine to transmission adapter plate; · Fabrication of special headers with Lake pipes and plugs installed; · Non-slip differential gears; · Removed and replaced gas tank modified for special fuel system; · Special under ride dual traction bars; · Lowered the back end to raise the front end. Mechanical: The car is in running condition, however it hasn't been driven for the past 15 years. Mechanically though, very sound. Undercarriage: · Very clean and solid frame; · ID Photos: The T-Bird comes with documentation, thousands of dollars in receipts, Owner History and many great stories. Surely, a one of a kind car that was modified by a famous legend (Bill Frick) who was well ahead of his time. This particular Thunderbird is the only one known to exist with a Pontiac engine. This is your chance to own a piece of the American race history. I highly recommend that serious buyers come themselves or send an agent to see this car in person. The 1956 models in particular are the archetypal 1950s cruisers, with the spare moved outside, a more powerful V8 under the hood, and a top that goes down. Thanks to just two owners who always ensured that it was ready to hit the road on a moment's notice, it's in just the right shape for your next road trip. Code L Peacock Blue was new for 1956, but nobody can argue that it doesn't look great. It says "L" on the trim tag, making Peacock Blue the original color, and the bright pastel finish looks exactly right on the 2-seater's famous shape. The paint job is older and the car has been driven on a pretty normal basis, but that doesn't diminish the Thunderbird's appeal one bit. Gaps are quite good, particularly for a convertible, and you'll note this is one of those rare Thunderbirds that was delivered without fender skirts (they were actually optional). Up close you can see a few signs of age, but you won't notice from the driver's seat, nor will the folks watching you drive by with envy in their hearts ever notice. Chrome and trim are good, with details that make the first-generation Thunderbird so special. Check out the vent doors in the front fenders, the chrome spare tire cover, and, of course, the Thunderbird script on the quarters. It all looks quite good. The code XC Peacock Blue and White interior works perfectly with the bright blue paint. Again, it shows some signs of use and age, but really needs nothing to be enjoyed immediately. The bench seat wears a recent seat cover that looks bright and clean with very little evidence of use. The carpets demonstrate minimal signs that they've spent the past few years in a convertible, and we're guessing they were replaced about the time the seat was redone. The door panels, with their two-tone vinyl faces and lovely engine-turned inserts, blend almost seamlessly into the dash, which features a big speedometer flanked by a tachometer and a clock. A modern AM/FM radio has been fitted to the center of the dash, that's the factory-issued steering wheel, and the slender wind wings keep it comfortable inside at highway speeds even with the top down. And speaking of the top, this car is equipped with a white folding top and the trunk has been carpeted to match the interior. Ford's erstwhile 312 cubic inch Y-block V8 provides power for all early 2-seat Thunderbirds, and over the years it has proven to be both reliable and plenty sporting for the 'Bird's luxury mission. Obviously this one was rebuilt a few years ago and driven since, but it's as reliable as ever. Wearing a factory dress-up kit with chrome air cleaner and finned valve covers there's no question about what kind of car this is. It's linked to a rebuilt Ford-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission and a 9-inch rear end, and with a mellow-sounding dual exhaust system, it's one of the best vintage cruisers you can own. Experts will note that the exhaust has been routed under the rear bumper instead of through it, which helps keep the chrome bright and shiny. It rides on 205/75/15 Goodyear whitewall radials wrapped around factory wheel covers. Early Thunderbirds have always been great cars, and this one delivers on the promise of comfortable first-class accommodations for two on the open road. THE CAR WAS SOLD NEW IN 1956 TO A HOLLYWOOD MOVIE PRODUCER BY BEVERLY HILLS FORD CO. WHO KEPT IT FOR SEVERAL YEARS BEFORE SELLING IT TO MRS. DORIS SANDORE OF WEST LOS ANGELES.....I THEN PURCHASED FROM HER IN 1986 AND SOLD IT TO AN AVID COLLECTOR WHO KEPT IT THE ENTIRE TIME WHILE DRIVING IT LESS THAN 2,000 MILES UNTIL I REPURCHASED IT AGAIN SOME 30 YEARS LATER. I AM NOW GOING TO SELL THE CAR AGAIN, SADLY, DUE TO PERSONAL REASONS, HAVING NOTHING TO DUE WITH THE CAR ITSELF. THE BODY IS UNTOUCHED FROM NEW INCLUDING THE FACTORY APPLIED PAINT WITH ORIGINAL PANEL FIT AND FINISH BEING VERY GOOD FOR A 1950'S BUILT CAR, AND THE PASSAGE OF TIME. Learning from the previous two years, Ford substantially revised the T-Bird, adding some small fins, enlarging the grille opening, and moving the spare tire back inside the trunk. This lovely Colonial White 'Bird offers a quality older restoration, a rare 3-speed manual transmission, two tops, and a true '50s feel. You simply can't go wrong with white paint and a black and white interior, and this T-Bird is beautifully finished in code E Colonial White (it was originally code Q Thunderbird Bronze with a Colonial White top). Bodywork is quite good thanks to a bare-metal restoration, with straight panels and beautiful attention to detail where it matters: note how neatly the taillight end caps fit, how crisp the character line along the side of the body appears, and the incredibly tight gaps all around. Somehow the paint shop gave the modern finish a soft shine that looks straight out of the Ford factory in 1957, but with a durability that gives it long-term durability that's still in good shape. Other details, such as the turquoise-inlaid Thunderbird badges, the cool rear bumper with integrated exhaust outlets, and the stainless trim on the fender skirts have all been restored. This is a very clean car that's easy to like. That two-tone black and white interior was restored at the same time, and it captures the original look in just about every way. Ornate door panels offer machine-turned panels that match the dash and a stylish armrest that gives the cockpit a wrap-around feel. The gauges are probably in original condition and we note that the needle on the tach has fallen off and the speedo isn't working, but the faces are in good order. The original Town & Country radio lives in the dash and still works, which is always a pleasant find in a vintage car. Correct black carpets and color-coordinated white seat belts indicate that someone cared about doing this car right, and as with the bodywork, fit and finish are nicely done. Overhead there's both a folding convertible top stashed behind the seats as well as the Thunderbird's famous "porthole" hardtop. In 1957, if you wanted a 3-speed manual transmission, you got the C-code 292 cubic inch 2-barrel V8, which was rated at 212 horsepower. With good mid-range punch and a flat torque curve, it's an easy cruiser with moves more like a muscle car than a luxury car. Up top, there's a traditional chrome air cleaner that inhales through the fully functional hood scoop, Ford Red paint on the block, and proper Thunderbird finned valve covers that are likely the prettiest ever made. For the most part, it's quite stock under the hood, with notable upgrades such as an Optima battery and a 12-volt alternator hidden down low. The exhaust system is muted yet muscular and there's a fresh gas tank hanging out back so no worries in that regard. The chassis is largely original, so it's not detailed for show, and wears a set of stock steel wheels, original hubcaps, and 205/75/14 BFGoodrich Silvertown whitewall radials. Iconic, fun to drive, and a solid place to park some cash for a while, this '57 Thunderbird is everybody's favorite slice of the 1950s. This is a real-deal, documented E-code 1957 Thunderbird. That means dual quads atop the 312 cubic inch V8, and with that in mind, the restoration was carried out to an extremely high standard. In a sea of early Thunderbirds, THIS is the one to own. It shouldn't surprise you that this car was restored to compete on the show field, and we've never seen a 2-seat 'Bird as highly detailed as this one. They stuck to the original specifications with this one, giving it a coat of code F Starmist Blue paint, as it was new, although the quality and shine are simply astounding. For many, the '57 Thunderbird is a favorite, with its more pronounced fins that were a part of the 1950s automotive landscape. It's been in the current owner's hands since 1979 and since a full restoration about 10 years ago, it has hardly been driven so it's very fresh. The chrome was treated to show-grade refinishing, and every single component on the car was buffed and shined before it was reinstalled, so it glitters no matter where you look. It's also loaded with other unique features, including a dealer-installed continental kit, original radio antenna on the deck lid, and beautifully fitted fender skirts. This is a very impressive car. The interior is restored to the same standards using correct two-tone blue vinyl that does a pretty good impersonation of leather. The wide bench looks more like two close-coupled buckets and makes the sporty T-Bird strictly a 2-seater. Everything inside has been refinished to show standards, including the gorgeous door panels, exceptional steering wheel, and precisely detailed gauges. It's all quite correct, from the neatly clustered instruments to the floor shifter for the Ford-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission. For show purposes, there are no "updates" or modifications to any of the interior systems, and even the original AM radio remains in its engine-turned panel in the dash. The spare tire moved back into the trunk for 1957, and even with the continental kit, this one is neatly finished with a correct reproduction mat and full-sized spare tire with jack assembly. And yes, don't worry, this one comes with two tops, a color-matched light blue hardtop with porthole and a beautifully fitted navy blue canvas convertible top with a crystal clear rear window. As nice as it is, this Thunderbird's status is almost entirely due to the E-code engine under the hood, complete with dual quads. With 270 horsepower, it was a neat experiment in creating a Corvette-eater that could still cruise the streets of Beverly Hills. Topped by the distinctive air cleaner, the 312 cubic inch V8 was fully rebuilt to stock specs and fully detailed with a dress-up kit. Every detail is correct, from the hardware securing the valve covers to the reproduction battery, and it runs as it should with a healthy bark from the dual exhaust. You can see bright red engine paint on the oil pan from below, and take a few minutes to enjoy the fully detailed chassis that's ready for the most demanding judges. Both power steering and power brakes make this E-Bird easy to handle and for style, nothing compares to a set of chrome wire wheels wearing 205/75/14 Coker Classic wide whitewall radials. There are only a few Thunderbirds that are more desirable than this, and they all have superchargers. If you've been looking for the one of these to complete your collection, this might be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. They bring smiles to the faces of everyone who sees them, they're wonderful to drive, and are the stars of every car show they attend. So why not take this pretty 1957 'Bird home and find out what all the fuss is about? An older restoration, this Thunderbird has a classic look of comfort, as if the car and its owner were travelling partners for many years. The bright Colonial White may remind you of Suzanne Sommers in "American Graffiti" (although hers was a '56) and paired with the black and white interior, it's a look that has always been in fashion and always will be. Bodywork is nicely done, good enough to show with pride at the local cruise night, but not so over-restored that you pack it in when the sun goes behind a cloud. I'm especially impressed by how well the fender skirts fit, which is often a problem area on these cars, and with the fuel filler door moving to the quarter panel, the deck lid fits well and doesn't leak into the trunk. Clearly a good amount of cash was tied up in the chrome work, including the front grille and the unique rear bumper with exhaust openings under the jet-like taillights. If there's a more pure statement of 1950s style, I don't know what it might be. Inside, the clean black and white upholstery is both sporty and elegant, almost like a tuxedo, and exactly the way Ford designers intended for their personal luxury roadster. Correct vinyl covers the power bench seat using the original ribbed pattern, and matching black carpets have been piped in black vinyl for a tailored look. The dash offers an engine-turned face that was the standard high-performance look in decades past, wrapping into the door panels that are simply gorgeous. Accessories include power seat, aftermarket A/C that's fully functional, and an original Town and Country AM radio in the center of the dash. The A/C uses an under-dash unit for a period-correct look, and the gauges appear to be in good original condition with only a bit of fading on the needles. Interestingly, you could order a soft top OR a hardtop with your base Thunderbird, but getting both was optional, so this one carries only a "porthole" hardtop in matching Colonial White. The trunk is finished with a correct mat, and with 1957's larger trunk, there's room for a full-sized spare, which you should be able to track down without a lot of trouble. In 1957, the Thunderbird was running 312 cubic inches in the Y-block V8 and making a cool 245 horsepower with a 4-barrel carburetor. That chrome air cleaner inhales through the functional hood scoop, an early version of ram air, and matching chrome valve covers are some of the most attractive pieces ever installed on an American car. The bright red engine has seen some time on the road, but isn't that how you prefer your cars, full sorted and ready to enjoy? The modern A/C compressor is a neat fit and works hard to stay out of sight, but otherwise it's quite stock under the hood. Power steering and power brakes are always welcome additions to the equipment roster and the transmission is a 3-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic. The wheels are beautiful reproduction Kelsey-Hayes chrome wires (not just hubcaps) and wear a set of newer 205/70/14 whitewall radials. The Thunderbird is one of those rare cars that can be purchased, enjoyed, and later sold for about the same money. How many other cars can you enjoy practically for free? One is a Model A Ford, and the other is an early 2-seater Thunderbird. We would like to recommend this 1955 Thunderbird as a candidate for your garage, with its classic color combination and a restoration that's accurate but not too nice to enjoy as intended. You can spend more for a trailer queen, but the real appeal in the early 'Bird is getting in and having an adventure. It's what sold them when they were new and their V8 power and comfortable suspension make them outstanding road trip candidates. And when they're painted Thunderbird Blue (which is this car's original color, by the way), they have a timeless appeal that looks right and never goes out of style. As I said, the work is a few years old, but it's holding up quite well thanks to quality work and excellent care since it was completed. For many, the simplicity of the first-year Thunderbirds is immensely appealing, and the even gaps and straight panels on this one certainly emphasize the clean design. Interestingly enough, fender skirts were optional, and without them, this car takes on a sporting look that's very Continental. However, as a product of the '50s, there's still plenty of brightwork that was thoroughly restored with the rest of the car. It's not perfect, but it's extremely nice throughout with nothing jumping out as either too old or too nice. It also carries a correct code C turquoise and white interior that adds plenty of flash, but in a traditional Thunderbird style. The interior is quite stylish, with a power bench seat that loosely emulates a pair of buckets, and it's quite good overall, needing little more than a good deep cleaning to be ready to show at almost any level. The instrument panel shows off the "anything goes" optimism of the 1950s, with a wide band of bright engine-turned metal, a speedometer backlit by a clear plexiglass panel, and a tachometer, all of which are in good condition with clear markings. The original AM radio is still in the center of the dash, and remarkably enough, it remains fully functional. You may also be interested to learn that a soft top was a no-cost option over the hard top in 1955, and this one wears a snug-fitting white folding top that looks great and vanishes behind the seat for a clean look. The trunk is outfitted with a correct mat and reproduction jacking label. All Thunderbirds in 1955 used a 292 cubic inch V8, and while the dress-up kit was a dealer-installed option, I can't recall ever seeing one without it, probably because it looks so good. Combined with the bright red engine enamel, the finned valve covers and chrome air cleaner make the engine bay really sparkle. Correct reproduction hoses and proper clamps add a period-perfect look and it runs extremely smoothly, as you'd expect for a luxury-oriented cruiser. Even the exhaust manifolds are in reasonably good shape, feeding a dual exhaust system with a muted V8 hum. The 3-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission shifts well and with 3.00 gears, it's a great cruiser in the city or on the highway. Proper 6.70-15 bias-ply wide whites look right and the shiny wheel covers give it an authentic look. 1955 Ford Thunderbird for Sale 1955 Ford Thunderbird for Sale Stock # 1433-DFW Charlotte Showroom 5400 West WT Harris Blvd Charlotte, NC 28269 Local/International: (704) 598-2130 Toll-Free: (866) 542-8392 Hours: Tues - Fri: 9AM - 6PM EST Sat: 9AM - 5PM EST Email: [email protected] Atlanta Showroom 213 Thornton Rd Lithia Springs, GA 30122 Local/International: (678) 279-1609 Toll-Free: (877) 367-1835 Hours: Tues - Fri: 9AM - 6PM EST Sat: 9AM - 5PM EST Email: [email protected] Dallas/Fort Worth Showroom 5400 Sandshell Dr Fort Worth, TX 76137 Local/International: (817) 764-8000 Toll-Free: (855) 877-2707 Hours: Tues - Fri: 9AM - 6PM CST Sat: 9AM - 5PM CST Email: [email protected] TERMS OF SALE 1. For those of you looking for one to simply drive and enjoy (you know, like you're supposed to), this 2004 Thunderbird may be a better fit. It's beautifully preserved, but it's been driven and enjoyed resulting in a very affordable price that puts you in an A-list collectable for a fraction of the price of all the others. If you're looking for a convertible to enjoy, it's hard to beat a bright red two-seater. When Ford reintroduced the Thunderbird, they knew that the things that made the originals so popular would still work today, so there's definitely a familial resemblance there. And while this one is the rare Thunderbird that's been driven and enjoyed, it has obviously not been abused and has not seen inclement weather, so it still looks fantastic. Obviously the body fit is done to factory standards since it's never been apart or wrecked, and the factory paint on the Thunderbirds was actually extremely good thanks to the special dedicated assembly line that built them; obviously they could afford to take a little extra time on their halo car. Someone has taken exceptional care of this one, because it defies the past decade and looks quite fresh with a smooth finish that suggests a lot of Saturday afternoons spent buffing and waxing the paint. No, it's not perfect, but the chrome bumper shines up well, the nose hasn't been sandblasted, and the shine is deep. Nice! The black leather interior is classic and understated and works very well with the bright red paint job. Ford gave the seats a retro-looking vertical pleat that was definitely a tip-of-the-hat to the original, but nothing in the 1950s was as comfortable and well-outfitted as this car. Just about everything was standard on the Thunderbird, including power windows, seats, and locks, A/C (now with all-new components), and a powerful AM/FM/CD stereo system with CD changer. This one also carries heated seats so you can extend top-down weather into the autumn months. White-faced gauges look classic and elegant, which is the Thunderbird's specialty, and the airbag cover sports a traditional Thunderbird logo with the same simulated turquoise inserts that the original wore. As with the exterior, everything remains in excellent shape, including the black power canvas convertible top and nicely finished trunk. The Thunderbird received the same 3.9 liter V8 as the Lincoln LS, and with smooth horsepower and plenty of effortless torque, it's the right choice. This was never intended to be a sports car, but instead it gathers speed without working hard and makes a subdued V8 hum that sounds right. Having proven itself over the last decade, it turns out that this engine is incredibly reliable and in this car, the ultra-clean engine runs superbly. The 5-speed automatic transmission is seamless in operation, working in harmony with the all-independent suspension to deliver that easy cruising feeling that just works. It's also quite competent, willing to hustle in the twisties and you'll be relieved to feel the powerful disc brakes with ABS at all four corners, there to bail you out of trouble. Shiny chrome alloys with recent Continental radials are low-noise, high-comfort pieces that fit the car well. So let the other guys worry about their low-mile "investments," you'll be having too much fun actually driving your Thunderbird to care. They bring smiles to the faces of everyone who sees them, they're wonderful to drive, and are the stars of every car show they attend. So why not take this pretty 1957 'Bird home and find out what all the fuss is about? The bright Colonial White may remind you of Suzanne Sommers in "American Graffiti" and paired with the red and white interior, it's a look that has always been in fashion and always will be. Inside, the bright red upholstery is both sporty and elegant, exactly the way Ford designers intended for their personal luxury roadster. Recent seat covers dress up the bench seat using the original ribbed pattern, and darker red carpets have been piped in matching red vinyl. The dash offers an engine-turned face that was the standard high-performance look in decades past, wrapping into the door panels that are simply gorgeous. Accessories include power windows, a power seat, and a Town and Country AM radio that still works like it should. The gauges appear to be in good original condition and seat belts were added for safety at some point along the way. Interestingly enough, when you bought a Thunderbird new in 1957, you could get either a hardtop or a soft top at no extra charge, but both tops was optional. As a result, this one has the lift-off hardtop, which gives it a practical, all-weather utility but there is no soft top behind the seat. And since the spare tire moved back inside for 1957, the trunk is finished with matching dark red carpets, a full-sized spare tire, and jack assembly. In 1957, the Thunderbird was running 312 cubic inches in the Y-block V8 and making a cool 245 horsepower with a 4-barrel carburetor. That chrome air cleaner inhales through the functional hood scoop, an early version of ram air, and the finned valve covers that were part of the dress-up package are still some of the best-looking ever made. It's pretty original under the hood, so don't expect perfection, but an engine doesn't have to be pretty to be a joy to drive, and this one runs quite well. You'll note both power steering and power brakes are included, so it's easy to drive, and there's plenty of evidence of careful maintenance throughout the years, even if it's a bit dirty. The transmission is a 3-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic linked to highway-friendly gears in the rear axle. Original steel wheels wear factory hubcaps and a set of newer 205/70/14 whitewall radials. The Thunderbird is one of those rare cars that can be purchased, enjoyed, and later sold for about the same money. How many other cars can you enjoy practically for free? One, they're perhaps the ultimate expression of 1950s style and two, they are some of the most stable automotive investments you can make. Name another car you can buy today, enjoy for 10 years, and sell for pretty much what you have in it, or even turn a profit. Not many cars can make that claim, but Thunderbirds are rock solid that way. This striking black-on-red 'Bird is one of those great cars that is always ready for a show or a cruise. Code AA Raven Black is its original color and you know it'll never go out of style, so that's another point in this car's favor. The '57s have their share of fans, and as the most modern and distinctive of the early 'Birds, it delivers on the promises its looks make. It was restored in 1993 and driven quite a bit since then, but the smooth, shiny paint is holding up well (although certainly not perfect) and looks far fresher than you'd expect. You can credit first-rate workmanship and attention to detail for that feat, and everything still lines up right and fits tight. All the chrome was refinished during the restoration and it has held up quite well, with no notable blemishes even around the exhaust ports in back, and that deck lid mounted antenna is an interesting feature that usually means the dealer installed the radio back in the day, helping this one stand out even more. As far as driver-grade Thunderbirds go, this one is presents very well. Bright red upholstery with dark red carpets emphasizes the flashy look, and with careful ownership this one looks years younger than you'd expect. The bench seat is still supportive and comfortable, the carpets are good, and gorgeous door panels don't show so much as an indentation from the driver's elbow on the armrest. A matching steering wheel has been neatly wrapped in red leather, offering a classy look that blends right in. The gauges are probably original but they show well with clear lenses and bright pointers, although the odometer isn't functioning, so we don't know the exact mileage. Upgrades include the under-dash A/C unit which is both effective and period-correct, an AM/FM/cassette stereo radio with digital tuning in the original dash slot, and a modern alternator to power it all. A black canvas convertible top stows behind the seats, just in case, and looks great with a crystal clear rear window, and you also get a matching porthole hardtop that's a trademark T-Bird look. The spare tire moved back into the trunk for 1957, so this one carries a matching spare wheel and tire assembly as well as a reproduction plaid trunk mat. The rebuilt 312 cubic inch V8 was rebuilt by Bob's T-Birds in Florida and looks great wearing the dress-up kit that virtually every Thunderbird eventually receives. Finned valve covers, a chrome air cleaner, and bright red engine paint really pop against the shiny black bodywork, and you can tell that this one was built to drive. Power steering is a nice find on any early 'Bird and the A/C system fits so neatly in the engine bay that it could almost pass for OEM. A 3-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission is unobtrusive and the right choice in an early 'Bird and with 3.00 gears out back, it's a superlative highway cruiser. Gorgeous chrome wire wheels really sparkle against the black paint and wear proper BFGoodrich Silvertown 7.50-14 bias ply wide whites for a perfect period look. If you've never owned a Thunderbird, you're in for a treat, and for those of you who already know how great they are, this one is ready to drive and enjoy without worries. The 2003 model year ended June 27, 2003. Dealers last day to order was May 30, 2003. The last day for scheduled production of the 2003 was June 27, 2003. Exterior Colors: Torch red, Evening black & Whisper white are carry over from 2002 - same colors/names as 2002 007 limited edition Thunderbird - (James Bond edition) limited to 700 vehicles - Coral (red-orange) new colors replacing the yellow and Thunderbird blue are: Mountain Shadow Gray - metallic (Gunmetal Gray) & Desert Sky Blue ( Robin's Egg Blue or pale blue). The show car from 2001 Pebble Beach show had the dark grey on a Thunderbird. Interiors: BW = Black Ink standard interior with black accent optional - available with all exterior colors - Caution - be careful when buying a touch up paint for the interior. Test the color first to see if it matches your interior. BR = Torch Red interior - available as full accent or partial accent - only available with the black, white, annd red exterior BC = Whisper White seat inserts - only available as a partial interior option for all - includes top of steering wheel and shift knob and only available with the white, red, black and blue exterior colors. Grey is excluded. BS = Saddle color accent interior - saddle color applied to full seat, leather covered shift knob and leather covered insert at top of steering wheel - only available with black or grey exteriors Heated seats - standard on Premium and not available on Deluxe cloth covered visor - only change to visor from last year instrument cluster redesigned, same features see interior page for photos Engine/Transmission, etc...: 280 hp - 3.9L engine two automatic transmissions are available - Select Shift is optional for all models traction control is standard on all Other: 2-speed variable interval wipers with heated wiper park. Wheels are the same as last year for both the Deluxe and Premium models. Supplemental parking lamps are a no-cost option. These are not available in Canada except as "Ford aftermarket." See 2002 Options page for pictures with and without lights. V8 badge on lower rear of front fenders. 6 CD changer is still standard. Hardtop Colors*: Evening Black (RA) - available for all body colors Performance White (R2) - available only on the red, black, desert sky blue t-birds Whisper White (R1) - available ONLY on the whisper white t-birds Torch Red (RR) - available only on the red t-birds Mountain Shadow Grey (RT)- available only on the Grey t-birds Desert Sky Blue (RC)- available only on the blue t-birds Found something really odd about hardtop colors and interior colors - If you order a black, red, or blue with the Whisper White interior, there is NO option to order a white top with the car. Guess Ford thinks the whisper white interior won't look good with the performance white top. Haven't they heard people saying the colored cars with white hardtops should have white interiors available? * - codes listed were ordering codes for the hardtops - they do not correspond with the actual color code for the paint. Differences between the Premium and Deluxe are again minimal: The Premium has heated seats and the 7 blade chrome wheels. The Deluxe does not have heated seats and has the 21 spoke painted wheels. Both could be ordered with or without hardtop Just as you see in the photographs. Please feel free to ask any questions prior to bidding, but I have included just about everything I know about the item, in the listing. Will send specific pictures if requested, whenever possible. Buyer arranges delivery or pick up - $500 deposit due upon auction close - final payment due within 3 business days of auction completion. Delivery is extra and to be prearranged. Payment must be made in full before transfer of vehicle. Car is sold "as is" condition with no warranty. Immensely stylish and fun to drive, this 1956 T-Bird offers great colors, a classic look, two tops, and a warm welcome everywhere you go. Just imagine yourself and your favorite someone special heading out for a trip in this lovely little convertible and you can see just how easy it is to fall in love with a car. Raven Black always looks good on 2-seat Thunderbirds, offering sophistication to go with its sporty demeanor. Two-seaters have distinct personalities each year, with the '56s getting a myriad of upgrades that were added after the '55s landed in consumer hands and complaints started coming in. As a result, the '56s received their most obvious change, a continental kit out back that not only improved trunk space but make this car pure 1950s cool. The finish is rather well done but its trophy-hunting days are behind it. That's perfectly OK with us, because driving this car is vastly more fun than sitting next to it. Fit and finish are quite good overall, with flush doors and crisp detailing that needs to be right for these cars to look their best. And as with any product of the 1950s, chrome is critical so it's a relief to see that the shiny stuff on this car is in good shape and really sparkles against that black paint. The black and white interior is pure class and Ford designers knocked it out of the park when they put this one together. The seat covers have a little stretching from use, but no nicks, cuts, or tears in the materials and it's still quite comfortable to settle in for an afternoon of cruising. Nice black carpets are protected by a set of reproduction mats and the door panels feature bright metal inserts that wrap into the dash for a cockpit feel. The gauges are in very good condition with bright markings that are easy to read and the original Town & Country AM radio remains in the dash. The big A/C unit under the dash is very similar to what you might have received from the dealer in 1956, although this one is powered by new hardware under the hood and R134a refrigerant, so it's easy to maintain and fairly effective. Tucked behind the seat is a white convertible top that offers brilliant contrast to the black paint and there's also a removable hardtop complete with porthole that was added to remedy blind-spot complaints in 1955. Ford's 312 cubic inch V8 is smooth and torquey, so the Thunderbird is a lot of fun to drive. It's also quite attractive with red engine enamel, a dealer-installed dress up kit, and nice details like the factory windshield washer bag. The A/C was installed so it doesn't draw a lot of attention to itself and the Thunderbird is one of those cars where you'll be happy to have power steering despite its small size. A Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission never seems to draw attention to itself, and there is lots of new gear underneath, including the dual exhaust system, shocks, and gas tank. Bright whitewall tires on stock wheels with full wheel covers give it a correct look and handling that's exactly the way it should be. These are nice cars to drive and no collection is complete without one. Just a nice little car that you can enjoy immediately. Eventually Chevrolet took their Corvette to the racetrack, while Ford continued to turn their Thunderbird into the ultimate boulevard king. Now, over sixty years later, Corvettes are regarded as some of the best curve carvers in the world, and Thunderbirds, like this 17K-mile stunner, are still turning heads on Main Street. If you looked at a brand new Thunderbird in 1955 but couldn't swing it, and looked again in 2002 but the timing just wasn't right, 2015 is your year! That's right; we have a pristine 2002 Thunderbird that's so nice it could've rolled out of the factory yesterday! So, if you're still looking to hit the road in refined style, the third time's a charm! BODYWORK/TRIM Ford's sensational Thunderbird sprang to life as a 1955 halo car that fired imaginations and eventually became a legend. In 1999, Dearborn's favorite son decided it would honor that original by building a new model to turn just as many heads. And, within three years, the convertible you see here, affectionately dubbed the 'retrobird', was rolling through production. This pristine drop-top's long body has obviously been pampered and exceptionally cared for as its slick Thunderbird Blue 2-stage looks just as good now as the day it rolled off the truck. And, from its great fit to its blemish-free panels, this Ford is definitely one of the nicest factory cruisers on the planet! As one of the most enduring 'retro' designs ever created, the car's J Mays-penned fuselage looks fantastic from virtually any angle. At the front of that fuselage, a bright chrome grille hangs small driving lights below clear, combination headlamps and a teal-inlayed Thunderbird emblem. Behind that emblem, a composite hood centers a traditional Thunderbird scoop in front of tinted factory glass that sports a stylish chrome frame. At the top of that frame, a Performance White hardtop latches down over a standard Haartz soft top to perfectly mimic Ford's original, 1955 dual-roof system. Below those roofs, chrome ventiports ride inside re-imagined fender lines that lead the eye through body-matched mirrors to rear mounted "Thunderbird" scripts. And, behind those scripts, a contoured Center High Mount Stop Lamp illuminates a second teal-inlayed Thunderbird emblem, clear, combination taillights, a chrome-trimmed tag recess and stylish stainless exhaust tips. ENGINE When Ford debuted the eleventh generation Thunderbird it introduced a car that was faithful to the original concept in virtually every way. Power for this classy cruiser comes from a 3.9 liter, 32-valve DOHC V8 that was developed by former captive subsidiary Jaguar. Code named AJ35, the Ford-specific mill utilizes variable valve timing, fracture-split and forged rods, 1-piece, cast camshafts and a reinforced, composite intake to twist 280 smooth horses into 286 lb./ft. of stout torque. More of a 'comfortable cruiser' than 'flat-out sports car', the 'retrobird' never pretended to be a Corvette or Porsche competitor. That said; 0-60 comes at a very respectable seven seconds, and the car's silky powerplant delivers enough grunt to provide fun and responsive driving characteristics. Aesthetically, the entire engine is hidden under an attractive plastic shroud which substitutes a classic "Thunderbird" script and silver "V8" branding for traditional views of its componentry. However, you can still plainly see how well everything has been maintained and, with a turn of the key, the cylinders settle into a restrained hum of power. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION In the late 1990s and early 2000s Ford developed one global rear wheel drive platform, codenamed DEW, that was set to underpin everything from select Jaguars to the fifth generation Mustang. Those competent roots supply this awesome Thunderbird with a sophisticated independent suspension, which utilizes a host of weight saving technology to provide a smooth ride and composed road manners. Behind the aluminum engine, a 5-speed automatic transmission sends power to a fresh Ford rear end that's fitted with beefy 3.58 gears. At the corners of the chassis, 4-wheel disc brakes, which are aided by standard antilock and traction control systems, ride behind chrome, 17-inch wheels and sticky Michelin Pilots. All that world-class engineering results in a sturdy convertible that translates relaxed sportiness into an excellent combination of cushy comfort and tight handling. And when you throw your favorite road at this drop-top, it'll chew it up, spit it out and coddle you in the kind of luxury vintage T-bird owners merely dream of experiencing. INTERIOR Ford began the 21st century by producing some of the most impressive and detail-oriented interiors to ever hit the market. And the 2-tone cockpit in this roadster, equipped with an optional Full Interior Color Accent Package, has to be one of their best designs. The driver and passenger are treated to power leather seats, which are branded with small Thunderbird emblems. Below those seats, day-one-fresh carpet is protected by color-keyed floor mats and bordered by cool "Ford Thunderbird" sill plates. Above those sills, winged door panels hang slick metal trim behind controls for both power windows and power door locks. In front of those panels, a highly detailed dash anchors Turquoise-tipped needles between satin-faced gauges, a 6-disc CD changer and attractive metal trim. At the base of that dash, a great looking console centers dual-zone climate control on a Thunderbird Blue shift knob and sculpted waterfall back panel. In front of the driver, a 2-tone wheel spins a pristine, teal-inlayed emblem around a tilting and telescoping column. And behind the passengers, a fully finished trunk features enough luggage room for a quick weekend getaway.
