Offering the same smooth inline-six powerplant that drove all Chevy vehicles in 1937, this handsome ton black pickup has an honest look that's both stylish and utilitarian, not to mention reliable. Basic black looks great on the working-class hauler and while beauty wasn't Chevy's top priority in the truck field, nobody can say this is an unattractive machine. Classic curves, an instantly recognizable grille, and an upright look that instantly takes us back to the old days are all included. By 1937, Chevy designers had knocked the sharp edges off their pickup trucks, so the rounded fenders and handsome cab work well together and even with the square bed out back. Functionally, the truck offers a nicely finished bed with an oak floor with just the right amount of patina, and while the black paint shines up nicely, it, too, has signs of a life well-lived in the field. If you want a perfect truck, this isn't it, but if you seek one with character and a willingness to still get its hands dirty, this is an awesome choice. Even the chrome still looks good and against that black paint it's a great contrast. The brown leatherette interior shows well, again with a bit of wear and use evident, but none of that takes away from the look. The wide bench is good for three-across seating and the commanding driving position makes it easy to maneuver through traffic. The seats, door panels, and fiber-board headliner all look quite correct for the period and the durable rubber floor mat means it can still work in the field without worries (not that you're going to put this one to work, right?). Sensible gauges cover the basics and it offers a no-frills atmosphere with a crank-open windshield for ventilation, a 3-speed manual transmission, and precious little else. The big steering wheel makes even low-speed maneuvers relatively easy and all the controls are laid out just about where you'd expect, so getting in and driving is easy, not intimidating. And the view over that long pointed hood just can't be beat. Chevy's all-new six cylinder engine displaced 216 cubic inches in 1937 and represented a design that would last nearly three decades. 85 horsepower doesn't seem like a lot today, but it gives the lightweight little truck a peppy feeling and for a truck engine, it's shockingly smooth. Proper gearing means that it scoots through traffic without becoming a rolling road block and the smooth torque really makes around-town driving effortless. It's correctly dressed in gray engine enamel and still uses an original 1-barrel carburetor and oil bath air cleaner, as well as factory manifolds. It starts easily and still runs its original 6-volt electrical system with generator and you'll find that more power isn't what this truck needs just because it's so simple overall. The chassis was clearly restored at some point and offers a rugged ladder frame, solid axles and leaf springs at both ends, and 6.00-16 Firestone blackwalls on painted steel wheels for a perfect blue-collar look. Not a show truck but not a beater, this neat pickup is ideal for casual shows and if you need to run to the garden center on a Saturday afternoon, what better way to do it than this? Hot rodding is about craftsmanship as much as anything, and this slick 1937 Ford phantom pickup not only has a great look but is also loaded with details that will make people line up for a closer look. V8 power, a state-of-the-art interior, and a few surprises underneath make it a show-stopper than can still haul cross-country with ease. By now you\'re familiar with the work that the guys at Downs Fiberglass do, and the phantom \'37 pickup is a vehicle that never really existed but could have. Using the beautiful art-deco nose of the passenger car and grafting on a well-proportioned bed, it becomes the best-looking truck Ford didn\'t build. Finished in blue over copper, it definitely has a modern look that gets attention. Fit and finish are impressive and with shaved door handles, hidden hinges, and a minimum of trim, the bodywork has to speak for itself. Period-proper details include the running boards and Model A taillights, not to mention those gorgeous teardrop-shaped headlights that define the 1937-38 Fords. The bed is indeed fully functional with a drop-down tailgate, but have a look inside and you\'ll find one of those trick details I was talking about: a Plexiglas floor that shows off the fully independent rear suspension and a custom stainless fuel tank. Cool, right? The sleek gray interior has OEM levels of fit and finish and a trick design that fits well with the phantom Ford\'s personality. Low-back buckets don\'t obscure the very cool split rear window and custom door panels echo the shape of the side windows and reveal the reinforcements inside the door for a touch of industrial tech. The dash wraps around and blends into the custom center console and extends into the window moldings, creating a cockpit that puts all the controls at your fingertips. The wood-rimmed wheel is an elegant piece that warms up the driver\'s compartment, and everything you\'d imagine is included, like A/C, power windows and locks, and a tilt steering column. Pretty Dolphin gauges are simple and clean and there\'s a powerful JVC AM/FM/CD stereo system with speakers throughout the interior that are designed to be seen as well as heard. This is one pro-built rod that looks amazing but remains fully functional and ready to cruise in comfort. For power, there\'s a fresh 350 cubic inch Chevy crate motor with only shakedown miles. An Edelbrock carb lives under the finned air cleaner and with matching valve covers, it has a traditional hi-po look. The engine is compact with a serpentine belt drive system to pull the accessories in tight to the block. Service access is still pretty good and the hardware is high-quality stuff so you can hit the road without a worry. A TH350 3-speed automatic transmission spins that trick Heidt\'s Ultra IRS rear suspension system. The fabricated chassis was painted to match the blue portions of the body with select shiny bits like the A-arms on the coil-over suspension and beautiful inboard rear disc brakes. 17-inch front and mammoth 20-inch rear American Racing wheels give it a wicked rake and wear 215/40/17 front and 275/40/20 rear performance radials. This stunning creation will stop traffic everywhere it goes, but is equally happy to run with it, too. For those of you who like being the center of attention, this is a tough act to follow. A little History; The 1937 Chevy half-ton pickup was not only the first pickup truck to be designed from the ground up, but it was also among the first to offer a full body instead of just the chassis and front cowl. Instead of relying on private body makers and even local lumber yards to provide the beds for their commercial chassis, Chevrolet created its own bed styles. This began a trend of American automakers handling all aspects of design and bodywork for their light and medium-duty trucks, one that continues to this day. The steel cab provided a modest level of comfort. Up for sale is this 1937 Chevrolet 1/2 ton pickup. This would make a great restoration project for someone wanting to start with an original 37 . Truck has a clear and current south dakota Title and the serial number matches the data tag on the passenger side firewall. We have had this pickup for years but have decided to sell some of our projects. Truck has the original 216 engine in it with the correct carb and air cleaner. The engine did not turn over recently but did turn over a few years ago. We would recommend a complete engine rebuild or putting a fresh engine in it due to age. We really hate to see this truck go but cant keep them all. Some of the things that we noticed the truck will need during restoration include , new tires , period correct rims , seat springs/cushions , front leaf spring shackle, front frame horns , bumper brackets , bed kit , headliner kit , and some welding / rust repair , and general body work. Pickup will need a new grille installed. The cab does have some rust through on the upper interior header panel . We also noticed some rust through on the RH passenger side A pillar that will need repair. The frame does have some mild / deep pitting on top rails underneath of the bed strips due to things being piled in the bed for all of those years. We also noticed that the Driver side lower door hinge is broken away from the door shell and will need repair. The front and rear bumpers look correct for the 37 year. This would make a great pickup to restore or it could be made into a custom or rat rod pickup. Great starting point if your wanting to build a 37 . Terms and conditions of sale : We would like this pickup to be picked up within 45 days of the end of the auction. We are easy to work with. It will be kept behind a gated area at our shop building until you pick it up. Pickup will roll good onto a trailer. It does not currently run so it will have to be winched on or pulled on using a cumalong. Once the auction is over our full contact information and cell phone number will be provided to auction winner as well as our personal email. Payment must be made within 48 hours of the end of the auction unless other arrangements are made and approved. We would prefer to be paid with a cashiers check to save from paying PP fees. If you need to pay with paypal we will be able to accept it but prefer not to use paypal if possible. We are trusted ebay sellers with 100% positive feedback and look forward to completing the transaction with the proud new owner of this pre war 1/2 ton pickup.
