80's icon is looking for a caring home! Honestly, I really love this car - it's my EIGHTH Trans Am since 1996. I've enjoyed numerous road trips: Route 66 and twice across the country from Michigan to Southern California and back. I took it too countless classic car shows and enjoyed compliments and thumbs up wherever this car appears. But it's like Huey Lewis sang in the 80's "I want a new drug", it felt it was time to get a new baby and to say Goodbye to my Trans Am. Boys don't grow up - their toys just getting bigger, right? This impeccably cared for, antiseptically clean Trans Am is ready for it's next set of enthusiasts hands to appreciated this rare, mint 80's muscle. Don't keep it hidden in the garage - it was born to hug the road! This Trans Am was assembled on Sept. 29th, 1984 as an early '85 model at the GM Norwood plant in Ohio. Before I bought this Michigan car with less than 31.000 miles, it had been stored by the first owner for more than 15 of it's 23 years in a garage, not running and never saw winter in it's entire life. The second owner just flipped it, the third owner bought this Firebird as a hobby car and only drove it to classic car shows. Because of that, it took a complete technical overhauling to turn back this well kept trailer queen into a flashy 80's Muscle machine: - Brake system new (incl. ER brake cable, wheel brake cylinders, lines now stainless steel) - Alternator new- Starter motor new - Water pump new - Head revised/refined (new GM performance intake/outlet valves, new vacuum line system, head gasket replaced, Rochester QuadraJet carburetor overhauled) - New rear sway bars - Headliner replaced - Transmission mount replaced - Headlights upgraded with stronger H4 conversion kit - Front side markers now clear - All lift supports (hood/hatch) replaced Majority of paint is original, however a few areas showed common factory paint defects (a result of GM's infamous mid-80's quality) that were professionally refinished. The body is clean, no rust, no cracks or fade in the plastic trim. The Concorde inspired dash is in perfect, unwarped shape! For a car almost 31 years old, it looks awesome. More than awesome actually - you don't see this quality level of a car anywhere but in a museum. With the assembly line not quite ready yet for the big '85 model year changes (GM just threw cars together with what was available to keep the assembly line running), the Trans Am ended up being built with a wild mix of two different model years: The restyled '85 body (front fascia, aero skirting, dams, vents, smoked taillights) and dashboard (gauges with new grid pattern design) but with an '84 vinyl interior, WS6 suspension but without rear disc brakes and an L69 "H.O." V8 instead the LG4 engine. The production codes don't match any of the GM records for '84 or '85. This Trans Am is truly unique - you won't find a second one made in this configuration by factory. There is even a handwritten production line note on the inner fender well - of the exact time/date of manufacture - all perfectly preserved. The L69 V8 (4 BBL QuadraJet carburetor, 190 hp with Regular, 210 with Premium gas) is attached to a Turbo-Hydramatic 700 R4 four speed automatic and was totally overhauled in 2014 (no leaks, no smoke). The transmission shifts smooth, the A/C blows ice-cold, everything works including the power antenna and the original concealed headlight motors. The weather stripping and all rubber seals are in good condition, the interior is spotless (non smoker car) with no cracks/tears in the seats, the dash cover has no cracks, the carpet is clean and intact (no holes, no wear through). The original Delco radio still works, the car comes with the rare glass T-Tops and storage bag, even the original floor mats are there. The 235/60-15 Cooper Cobras are in good condition, the 15x7" Diamond Spoke Cross lace wheels are clean and have no scratches. Everything is well documented from the first owner to the present day, the title is clean, the car has never had an accident. Even for current standards, this Trans Am is a still quite a fast car, but also a very comfortable Grand Touring Coupe (I crossed the US twice with this car and enjoyed every mile). I guarantee you'll enjoy the countless compliments (and you'll get a lot, this car is a head-turner and jaw dropper!). No repairs expected, it's 31 yeas old - all you need to do is to turn the key and drive into YOUR 80's paradise. Between 1982 and 1993, Pontiac assembled 313,003 third generation Trans Ams, fewer than 34.000 survive - this is the right time to grab one of the last iconic 80's Trans Am that is already a very rare sight on the streets. With the T-Tops off, the wonderful deep V8 rumble (seriously, this car sounds Badass!) as resonant as any earlier generation Trans Am and handling that will put a BIG smile on your face - you simply cannot find a better 80's connection than this unless you're watching Miami Vice. The interior was professionally done and in my opinion one of the best I've ever seen, It is powered by a 350 chevy, 4 speed trans with a Hurst Shifter. it runs and drives great. everything works on the car, It has power steering, power brakes (disc up front) and headers, The chrome/stainless are in excellent condition. The dash is all original. The parking brake works with a flashing light to let you know its on. It has a converted am radio (original looking) to fm, It also has a 6 changer cd player under the front seat with the remote in the glove box (that i have never used) the clock and all gauges work, The wheels and tires were new when I bought the car last year. (American Racing) I am a collector and love all classic cars, I've owned hundreds since I started collecting at 14 years old ( a 54 ford ) I buy a new one ever year or two and then sell one. Right now I'm restoring a 39 Pontiac, thats what I love to do,I love the "project". Ive owned a superbird to amphia car, a 59 drop top cadi just to name a few. I sold my GTO a couple years ago and the guy thought it was a free pass to do burnouts on a test drive (3) while I sat next to him yelling to "knock it off", That will never happen again, I'll be happy to take you for a test drive , if you want to smoke the tires you can pay for it first, then have at it! 1985 Pontiac Trans Am H.O. - the last year of the grumpy sounding "High Output" Trans Ams! This 1985 Trans Am is one of a kind. It was assembled in the third week of October 1984 as an early 1985 model, but because Norwood/Ohio plant ran out of the right production parts during the model year change, they "created" a wild mix: Exterior already shows the new 1985 changes (restyled air dams, vents, tail lights) and the new '85 dashboard (with grit pattern gauge design), combined with '84 vinyl bucket seats interior. The 305 H.O. (205 hp with Premium gas) is attached to a THM 700R4 (4speed) automatic box, which officially wasn't available anymore for 1985 H.O. - of 44.028 Trans Am made altogether for the 1985 model year, 1.665 were listed as "High Output" version.I bought this beautiful, award winning 1985 Trans Am early last year with less than 32.000 mls from the second owner who drove it only to classic car events. The first owner once stored the Pontiac in a garage for almost 13 years of the 22 years he owned it and created a wonderful clean time capsule. (vehicles history is well documented and complete). But every car guy will confirm you just don't store a car that long without having some flaws coming along - so I had to do some improvements on this Firebird: The 4 barrel carburetor (Quadrajet) was totally refurbished, all hoses were replaced. The Alternator was renewed, also headlights (converted from sealed beam to stronger H4), foglights, headliner, hood insulation, rear wheel brakes (completely incl. emergency brake cable), brake lines (now all stainless steel), all system liquids/fluids changed, water pump renewed, also the windshield washer pump and even the flasher relay. Soon I found myself cruising around town every night with this classic 80's T-Top Bird and even enjoyed a roadtrip to the west coast, and honestly there wasn't one single day without getting thumbs up or compliments - this Trans Am really wows the crowd and causes a stir, which makes me think it better should be kept as a show/hobby car than a summertime daily driver. That's why I rather see it in somebody's hands who won't drive it every day and treats it the way it deserves. The body and floor panels are all clean, the V8 looks and runs like brand new (engine was refined this summer). The four speed automatic shifts smooth and soft, the original exhaust rumbles like in the good old muscle car days. Everything works fine, even the (original!) concealed headlight motors, cruise control and A/C (blows ice cold, was refilled this spring). Nothing is worn out or cracked, no filthy smell (non smoker car). If you know cars, then you also know about GM's quality issues especially in the 80's - one reason why so many of these stylish, sleek Firebirds became extinct. You'll have to dig deep finding a better Trans Am than this one, especially in this rare H.O. version. This Trans Am is just turn-key ready to go – get in and enjoy the summer!
