I bought the car in 1995 as an off-lease vehicle with 20,000 and have held onto it for almost 20 years. Engine runs strong -- never have an issue with stalling or being unreliable. No issue with transmission. Has all parts --nothing has been stripped from the vehicle. Last year had an exhaust leak and a fuel that was leak fixed. Tires are a few years old and have approximately 20,000 miles on them -- have legal tread on them. Struts and coolant pump replaced several years ago.
The car runs and handles fine. It did however recently fail a safety inspection due to corrosion on the frame around the area where the rear suspension sits. I would still hold on to it if not for the failed inspection. Some repair shops recommending welding the frame -- others expressed concern about the thinness of the metal. Another recommendation was to replace the suspension piece (used).
Used as a 2nd car for the past 8 years to run to the beach and transport my kayaks. I limited my use of the car from April to Nov each year and put 7,000 to 11,000 miles each year. Given the other issues below and future "unknowns" I have decided to reluctantly part with the vehicle.
What follows is a list of problems with the car of which I am aware. I am being as detailed as possible as to make all prospective buyers aware of the condition and known issues with the car as I do not want to waste anyone's time or my own.
Frame corrosion around rear suspension points
E-brake does not work in holding the car at idol
AC does not work
Heater -- only produces warm air not hot
ABS -- does not work (sensor bad)
Check Engine Light is on
Leaks Oil around the engine compartment but I never had to add oil between changes
Leaks Coolant (most evident when colder) had to fill occasionally
Power steering fluid leak (most noticeable leak = especially when colder outdoor temperatures arrive)
I've been told it leaks brake fluid (although I have not had to add fluid and have not noticed this to be an issue yet)
Some corrosion / rust on the rocker panel and around gas tank.
Passenger side door (outside handle is missing)
Gas tank door cover missing.
Leather seats are torn / ripped on seat area.
Dashboard is dry and cracked.
Overall the car is in fair to poor condition and definitely shows its age. Car was involved in an accident about 10 years ago -- crumpled hood and air bag deployment. Hood and air bags / sensors were replaced -- no other issues as a result of the accident. Paint is peeling and chipping on hood as a result of sub-par paint job.
I have already priced out salvage prices for the car and was offered $150 to $200 for the vehicle with no questions asked. Due to the inspection rejection sticker and the fact that I am selling the vehicle for parts only I am not looking to provide extended test drives to prospective car buyers. Please keep this in mind and the overall condition of the car detailed above when considering contacting me about the vehicle.
