The '49 year of Cadillacs is a very collectible year due to the introduction of the Kettering overhead valve engine and push button start on the dashboard. This one is a beauty and a joy to drive. Because of the elegant black PPG finish and extra Series 62 chrome rock guards and rocker panels, it is a real head-turner. These extras were recently rechromed. Not all of the photos show the added chrome. FINISH: There is no cracking, bubbling or any signs of bondo, no chips or road wear. It shines like new. The chrome is in excellent shape except for the rear bumper corner bottoms. There is a rusted through areas that can't be seen easily, but the two corner bottoms will need to be rechromed. Those are the only flaws on the exterior finish. GLASS: The wing windows have some slight delamination. The passenger wing window will not close completely, probably an easy adjustment. UNDERCARRIAGE: The entire undercarriage has been sprayed with POR15. There is no major rust under this Caddy that I can see. TRUNK: Trimmed in wool INTERIOR: Beautiful gray cloth on the seats and gray wool headliner, no flaws. The gray carpets are in excellent shape. OTHER: Sombrero hub caps are original and in excellent shape. Many of the rubber pieces have been replaced where needed. Both Cadillac emblems are in very good shape with no cracking or crazing. DRIVEABILITY: A solid handling classic, this drives down the road straight as an arrow, does not burn oil, and starts well even on cold mornings because of an added electric fuel pump. Everything works, but wipers are intermittent. No power brakes or power steering. You will be proud to own this classy automobile and I will be sad to see it go. (I'm selling my small collection of classics since we are moving and will have no room to store them.) They made fewer Series 61s than Series 62s. The only known (Rust Through Area) is on the same left front fender close to the bottom - see close-up photo with pencil to show the size. This Caddy was restored approximately eight years ago. I have owned it for four years but am moving to a new home with no garage space for the remainder of my collection. I love the look of the Series 62 chrome so have added that to this Series 61. Note that some photos were taken before adding the other chrome pieces. All the chrome is gorgeous except for small rust areas on the lower corners of the rear bumper. All of the glass is original; slight delamination only on the wing window edges. The sombrero hubcaps are original to the car. Original overhead valve V8 engine (first year offered) with 60,000 miles. I believe from talking to the former owner that these are original miles and no rebuild is needed. Self starter, button on dash (first year offered.) Sun visor is original. Beautiful gray cloth interior has no flaws, tears or stains. Trunk is finished in a wool style fabric and has a spare tire cover. Sold as is, where is.
