truck is registered and insured. serious buyers are welcome to test drive the truck before buying. more pictures are available. I am selling because I need a rollback wrecker with a Cummins, higher gear ratio, air brakes and hub piloted rims. 1987 GMC C7000 diesel topkick. same truck as Chevy C70 Kodiak. this has the square hood because it is a Topkick model. Gmc made a different style of hood in this same year for the non-topkick C7000. 28,000 Gross vehicle weight rating. 19,000 rear axle weight rating. empty weight is just over 10,000. 234,000 miles showing on odometer. the speedometer is not accurate so the mileage is not accurate. the mechanical speedometer is reading too high. I have not owned this since new so I don't know the actual mileage. ENGINE. turbo diesel. runs good. cold starts easy down to 20 degrees without bock heater. I never have put starting fluid in this engine. starting fluid injection system is not connected. truck originally had a caterpillar 3208 10.4 liter v8 diesel. the engine has been replaced with an 8.2 liter Detroit diesel v8. mechanical pump and injectors, no computers or control modules. the 8.2 Detroit diesel is often confused with the screaming two stroke 8V 71. this IS NOT a two stroke. this is a quiet four stroke like most diesels. I read that this was the first four stroke Detroit made. Detroit diesel Allison division was a division of general motors. the engine was changed before I got the truck. I don't know the year or mileage of engine. Donaldson paper air filter. TRANSMISSION. this truck originally had a manual transmission. the transmission in there now my have been installed when the engine was replaced. it is an Eaton six speed manual. it is synchronized in all six gears. sixth gear is direct 1:1 ratio. Model ES5106 A. Serial 86215582. tag has numbers A-673-016122 F3417004KA. made in Brazil. REAR END. Eaton two speed. electric shift. shifts like it should with a shifter button on the transmission shift lever. removable carrier, front loader. I did not take the rear end apart to find out the exact ratio. I counted the revolutions of the driveshaft. the ratio is approximately 6.5 in high range and 8.9 in low range. the tag on the cab says 19,000 rear axle weight rating. the DOT allows 18,000 so you will get a ticket before you overload the axle. differential cover is rusty but not rusted though. I don't know if this the original rear end. HYDRAULIC BRAKES. brakes are hydraulic. hydraulic boost is powered by power steering pump. has electric over hydraulic booster as a backup, has power brakes even when the engine is not running. front disc. rear drum. bakes work. most of the steel lines and rear brake hose have been replaced. there area few feet of rusty steel lines that should be replaced. emergency brake is a drum on the transmission. I had the emergency brake shoes relined in 2012. I had the drum turned at the same time. emergency brake is cable operated and is in working condition. WHEELS. wheels are five spoke daytons. these are not Budd style wheels. the rims are all solid. I get lots of comments about lock rings blowing off. there are NO SPLIT RIMS WITH LOCK RINGS. NO two piece suicide rims. daytons don't all have lock rings. TIRES. all tires are tubeless radials in good condition. they are a few years old but are like new. they have about 90% tread. steers are matching 295/75 R22.5. drives are 295/75 R22.5 on one side and 11R 22.5 on the other side. there is 15 revolutions per mile difference between the drives, not enough to hurt the differential. FRAME. frame has surface rust but is still roadworthy. no rust holes through frame. it has been extended by about two feet in the middle. BATTERIES. batteries are older but are in working condition. has two batteries in a compartment on the passenger side behind the cab. EXHAUST. stock weed burner exhaust. muffler looked new when I bought the truck in 2012. single exhaust not dual. this truck does not need any exhaust repair. FUEL TANKS. fuel tanks are 50 gallons each. it has shutoff valves so it can run on both tanks at the same time or it can run on right tank only. CAB. cab is the same as a 73-87 pickup. the back window is smaller on medium duty trucks. cab has rust through on drivers side rocker and both cab corners. passenger side rocker is still good. cab mounts are still solid. like most of these the dash is cracked from the sun, aftermarket dash covers are available. no air conditioning. all stock gauges work. you could put a crew cab and a pickup box on this chassis, it would make a nice heavy pickup truck. I saw a picture of one of these trucks with a suburban body and a pickup box. GOOSENECK HITCH. 2 5/16" ball gooseneck hitch. 25,000 pound ball. RECIVER HITCH. 2" receiver hitch. 7 way RV plug. electric brake box. top speed of truck is 50 mph. has a power steering fluid leak from the steering gear shaft seal. this truck was blue. has been painted with white enamel. tuck has a title. truck is a class 7. it is still considered a medium duty. it is one size below a class 8 semi truck. it is 2,000 pounds over CDL.
