The Stealership will charge you over $2000 to repair, but they will replace the intake manifold with another identical one made out of the same cheap plastic, so it too will eventually break! I have replaced the cheap plastic center vacuum rod and the triangular shaped actuator lever with aftermarket metal parts, which will NEVER ever break! Plus they come with a lifetime warranty!!!(see last pic) Mercedes doesn't give that! *Furthermore, if you know about Mercedes engines, BUT more importantly if you do not...they also have balance shaft issues, which can cost $4k-$7 to fix due to the tremendous amount of labor! There was a class action lawsuit against MB and a settlement, but the now case is closed and no further claims can be made. If this happened to you now, there'd be no financial assistance. The effected Mercedes are all models with the M272 and 273 engines from model years 2003-2008. *However, if the car's engine serial number is higher than 272972 30 468993, then your vehicle has the updated parts, and does not fall into the affected category. The engine serial number for this car is 272972 30 621033, so it was made after the bad parts, so you won't have to worry about that nightmare! Please feel free to look this info up on Google or on Mercedes Benz websites. I am not making any of it up, just trying to be honest and up front. If you are in the market for a used Mercedes Benz and decide to go with a cheaper one, you will most likely be setting yourself up for thousands in costly future repairs. And if you spend thousands more at a used dealership, that doesn't necessarily guarantee you will get a better car, it only guarantees that you will have spent more. I have taken the time and expense to make this vehicle a much better one. It is very fairly priced considering all the work I have done. I have all the receipts for everything I have put into it. I only have one key though, and I am using the car occasionally so the mileage will be going up slightly. With proper care and maintenance, and good quality synthetic oil changes, Mercedes Benz can almost go forever! Many easily do 250,000 miles or more. To say that the car exceeded all of my expectations is an understatement. It was very obviously garage kept and enthusiast maintained from day one. The exterior is as close to flawless as a 14 year old car can be. There is no evidence of prior paintwork to be found anywhere on the vehicle, though I would venture a guess that the front bumper was resprayed at one point, to look as good as it does after all this time and mileage. There is not a single ding or scratch to be found. There are a couple very minor paint chips on the hood below the kidney grills. The glass is mint. The rubber is free of wear and rot as is unfortunately very common on e39s. There is minor curb rash on a couple of the wheels. I debated having them refinished but I have never been happy with the results. Further, upon my research, most of the refinish jobs never properly match the OEM shadow chrome finish. The interior is super clean. The leather is free of any major imperfections. The bolsters are free of the typical wear you see on these seats. The rear seats look as if they were never sat in. The door panels are mint. The A, B and C pillars, as well as headliner, are free of sagging. The leather console is free of scratches and wear. The steering wheel was replaced with a brand new OEM one. I did this out of OCD as the original had a little ‘patina’ on it. Wood trim and shift knob are very clean and free of the common hairline cracks that is prevalent on these. I replaced the worn M5 floor mats with the more traditional BMW mats. All tools are present in the trunk. The original manuals and portfolio are present. The original OEM cargo net are present.
