Randy Marchetti, the owner of RM Racing, is nuts for NSXs, and the 93 (with a 3.0-liter VTEC V-6) Beyond RMs straightforward nitrous system, the car wears every NSX thing Marchetti has ever dreamed up and built. That includes a carbon fiber intake feeding an oversize throttle body, revised engine control computer, alloy engine coolant bottle, billet aluminum manifold cover, braided aluminum lines, rear alloy/carbon fiber strut tower bar, stainless steel exhaust system, alloy/carbon fiber oil cap, and a bunch of other cool stuff. The suspension has been lowered 1.5 inches using RMs springs and the brakes cross-drilled and fitted with carbon Kevlar pads, the car rides on P215/40ZR17 front and P275/35ZR18 rear . Flip down what was the dashs ashtray cover and three switches appear: one to turn on the nitrous system, one to open the valve on the nitrous bottle itself, and one that converts the horn buttons on the steering wheel into system triggers. Its easy to operate nitrous. Lets dispense with the handling. Without power steering, this may be as close to having a car surgically attached as any driver can experience. Its hard to improve on what is essentially perfection. Nitrous off, RMs NSX was still one of the quickest Motor Trend has tested, blasting the quarter mile in 13.6 seconds at 105.6 mph. With the nitrous on, it ripped off a 12.3 at 113.7 mph. With its 4.0-second 0-60 blast, this is an NSX that can slay even the occasional Viper. RM claims only a 70-horsepower gain for the nitrous system, but the performance indicates about 100 horsepower beyond the 93 standard 270 horsepower are available. The nitrous system simply swamps the NSXs VTEC system when its engaged; the driver never feels the engine transition to the second cam profile. But thats okay. When youre going this fast, who can feel anything except exhilaration? Engine was balanced and blueprinted and RM claims it will rev to 9000 rpm with no danger to the engine!!!
