1983 BUICK RIVIERA CONVERTIBLE

The Convertible was based on a new Body Style for Riviera, introduced in 1979. Changed little over the next seven years, this Body Style has gone down as the best selling Riviera of all time. By 1982 GM Brass was feeling pretty good about this car and decided to introduce a Convertible version in the spring of 1982. This being the first for Buick since 1975 and the first Convertible of any kind to come out of GM since the “The Last Of A Breed” 1976 Cadillac Eldorado was axed. This was a big step, it was 1982 and times were tough for the American auto industry.  On February 25, 1982, a press release was sent out to all dealers. The all new, limited production, Buick Riviera Convertible is to debut in the spring, mid April 1982. Available in two colors only; White or Red Firemist with a Maple / Claret Leather Interior with a White Vinyl Top. Most never made it to dealer’s lot before mid to late July of that year and all featured the new updated 1983 Riviera Grill. This was a very well appointed automobile by 1982 standards and the price reflected it.   Consider this, a brand new 1982 Buick Riviera hardtop, a best seller for Buick, cost $14,898.45 base price with freight. Not a cheap car by any standard. The 1982 Buick Riviera Convertible, a new untested car for Buick, cost $24,494.25 base price with freight. Add some options and this car could top out at over $27,500.00. This was the highest priced automobile GM sold, and that counted the entire brand, including Cadillac.   In 1982 only 1248 were produced. Not a bad number for a newly introduced, limited production, high end automobile     A lot of these cars were actually driven by GM Executives, Zone Managers and other Officials within all ranks of GM. It was not uncommon to have ‘Higher Ups’ from Cadillac tooling around in a Buick Convertible as their division had been neutered of Convertibles a few years back. Cadillac liked this car so much that they actually got their own version in the form of the 1984 and 1985 Cadillac Eldorado.  If 1982 was good, 1983 had to be better and was, sort of. As Buick and ASC ramped up production, they ended up producing 1750 for the 1983 model year. Prices jumped to $25,702.00 base price with freight up from 1982 by a bit over $1200.00.  Styling was mostly unchanged from 1982. Options remained about the same, the 4.1 V6 was still the standard engine .  4 wheel disc brakes were still standard on the 1983’s, just as they had been on the 1982's but became optional on the 1984 and 1985 model year Convertibles.  My beautiful Riveria has been lovingly maintained and driven by an older gentleman; only two other owners in the past 30 or so years....she has many new parts including roof, carpeting, leather seating, convertible top pumps and hoses, battery, and more....take the family for a summer cruise in comfort and safety from a bygone era....call AL @ 631-331-7642.

Provided with this car will be all the original (not reprints) documents including Owners Manual, Factory maintenance booklet (filled out/stamped by the dealer), Blaupunkt Export Super 34150 manual, and other assorted factory documents that came with the car when purchased new on May 27th 1965 in Buffalo NY. This car has spent over 25 years in a prized private collection until my purchase in the spring of 2004. This car has been routinely driven about 1500 miles per year.  Exterior Body and Finish:  Body color is the original Ruby Red paint code #6402. After much inspection I can confidently conclude that the car is still wearing 70% of the original factory applied paint. It appears the nose has been repainted to a perfect undetectable match many years ago and was done with the correct lacquer single stage paint. There is no visible sign of accident damage repair and the hood has the correct #32 stamped on it proving it original to the chassis. Note, there are NO kinks/bends that are commonly found in the hood at the hinge point. There are a few door edge paint chips (never touched up) and a very small ding on the left side of the front bumper. Aside from the pictured bumper ding the body has absolutely NO dings or dents anywhere. Not even a door ding! Thanks to being all original and accident free both doors and both hoods open and close as new with perfect body lines and gaps. I tested the chassis strength by jacking the car up at the factory jack points on both sides and opening and closing both hoods and both doors. I found no difference jacked up than when its resting correctly on 4 tires. Bottom line is the the car is as rigid and straight as it was when built by Porsche/Karosserie 45 years ago! It currently has just over 102,000 miles. This vehicle has been professionally maintained since I have owned it. I also have a record of all of the maintenance that I have had done on this truck since the day I obtained it. It has recently got a new starter, water pump, thermostat, alternator, fan clutch, both front wheel hubs, and the battery. The oil has been changed every 3,000 to 4,000 miles with Royal Purple synthetic oil. The tires that are on it currently have less than 10,000 miles and their tread is still like new. Their is nothing wrong with this truck and there are no quirks that it has. It still runs as strong as the day I got it and am simply selling due to purchasing a new car.
