This beautiful 37 Chevy Coupe was owned by the late Mr.Chandler Cates, of Hillsborough, NC. He was the owner of Cates Oil Co. and of an Esso service station, where he restored this car in the late 1970s. This car, along with an antique fire engine he restored, was prominently featured in many parades in Hillsborough over the years. The coupe is now being offered for sale by Mr. Cates' estate. The title is clear, and in the name of Mr. Cates' daughter. The coupe is in excellent condition, needing only minor cleaning and refurbishment to bring it up to show standards. There is some deterioration of the seals around the quarter windows, the original floor mat is ragged, and there is some minor delamination of the rear glass. There is no rust evident anywhere on the car, except very minor surface rusting and staining which is present on any older restoration. Information from Mr. Cates family states that when the engine was rebuilt that insert bearings were used, and that the gas tank was removed and sealed some years later. The car cranks, runs, shifts, drives, and stops like a new one. The engine runs so smoothly that it can barely be heard. The car has been garaged since the restoration, and taken out and driven monthly for the past few years to keep it in top operating condition. The coupe is garaged in Hillsborough, NC, where it may be inspected and driven by appointment. This car is offered for sale as-is, where-is, with no warranty whatsoever.
