This Trans Am is a one owner numbers matching car with original interior, one quality repaint in factory correct solar gold, and only 59,250 actual miles. We purchased this car from the gentleman who purchased it brand new back in 1978. The paint looks fantastic, the interior is in spectacular original condition, and the car feels great on the road. The beautiful and desirable color combinations of Solar Gold over Black Lombardy cloth deluxe interior is the correct factory color scheme as verified on the trim tag pictured below. A few tasteful add ons were installed on the car decades ago by the original owner and still look fresh. This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic TA that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come. Please note that this Trans Am is "numbers matching" meaning the engine is original to the car. The last six digits of the VIN, 436704, are stamped on the engine block, and pictured below, indicating that this is the engine that was installed in the car brand new at the factory. Also stamped on the engine block and pictured below is the engine code "YA," which is the correct code for a L78 400ci Pontiac. As a side note, this Trans Am is not a dealer auction vehicle. As one can see in the photos, the paint has a bright gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. New decals were applied to the car when it was painted and they look great with no wrinkles, cracking, or fading. We have taken specific photos of the quarters, rockers, underside, under the trunk mat, and other areas most prone to rust to show how clean this car is. The body and frame are very solid and strait with no visible rust, there is one little minor area on the corner of the drivers door that has a few small paint bumps and the corner of the dash that are hardly noticeable. Often times Trans Am's will have particularly chipped up front ends, this car does not, both bumpers are look great with no flaking or faded paint. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. There may be some small blemishes that were too faint to show up in photos, but nothing that is really noticeable from about five feet away. The Daytona tires are in great shape and look almost brand new. They are sized 225/70/15. The turbine/hurricane wheels are in great shape with no curb rash and really look cool on the car. All of the weather stripping, window sweeps, door seals and trunk seal are in newer condition. Trunk is clean with a correct trunk mat, factory correct trunk paint, and has no visible rust as one can see in the photos. This This Trans Am has a stamping on the radiator core support, which pictured below. It is hard to read, but the core support appears to show a "6 ** 78" stamp, or June 1978, the actual day of the month is hard to make out. This stamping would be correct and original as it precedes the car's build date of the first week of August, 1978 (08A). As one can imagine, if this Trans Am had ever sustained even a minor front end collision this part would have been repaired or replaced. The original stamping is great to see in tact. The Trans Am looks just as good in person as it does in the photos. Interior The Black Lombardy deluxe cloth interior of this Trans Am looks splendid. The seat covers are Lombardy Cloth covered originals and are in excellent condition with no excessive wear, rips, or stains. The seat covers are 36 year old factory originals not some cheap aftermarket replacements. The carpet is in good condition with no major stains, rips, or holes. The original dash is in great condition with no cracks, no fading, no warping, or sun damage. The stereo has been upgraded to a modern Pioneer cd player with newer 6x9 speakers mounted in the rear deck. All interior lights and gauges work as they should outside of the clock and the gas gauge works, but it is empty at 1/8th of a tank. The door panels are factory originals and are in great condition with no cracks or splits, and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The headliner is in great condition with no sagging or stains and is the original type material. The original rear package tray is in great condition, but has a covering on it now to protect it from the sun. This TA comes with a nice set of authentic old school Trans Am mats from the 80's, they look great in the car and really set off the interior. The owner added a working sunroof in the 80's and it looks and works perfectly as it did the day it was installed. The weather-stripping and headliner around the sunroof are in excellent shape. It's a nice compliment to the car and allows more light and fresh air into the car. The installation of the sunroof looks very professional and almost factory. These 1970's GM interiors are not know to wear well and the excellent condition of this original interior is a true testament to the love and care this car has received over the years. This car has not been smoked in; there are no burn marks and no smoke aroma what so ever.. The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos. Mechanical This Trans Am is in good mechanical condition with only 59,250 actual miles. Very importantly the original engine is still in the car and the vin number stamp is pictured below. It is a great driver that feels awesome on the road and at highway speeds. There is no smoke when starting or driving the car. It starts right away every time, idles okay, and runs well. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. This TA has a brand new exhaust system and still retains the factory catalytic converter. Also, the engine is clean and nicely detailed as one can see from the photos. The horn works as do all the interior and exterior lights, wipers, and fan for the blower motor. The AC system is in tact, but not working. As with some older carbureted cars, this Trans Am is very cold blooded and could probably use some general maintenance and carb adjustments to smooth out the idle. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially on a beautiful sunny day. Overall Condition Overall, this 1978 Trans Am is in very nice driver condition. The originality, one owner history, and great color combination make this car particularly desirable and impossible to duplicate. It is a great value and we have it priced to sell. This car turns heads and gets tons of attention wherever it goes. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector or the average enthusiast. Cars like this are the Barrett Jackson and Mecum stars of the future. Up for sale is a 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Vista Cruiser 2 Seat Wagon, matching numbers 350 automatic drivetrain, matching colors in terms of paint and interior, and original interior, dash, and carpet. It was optioned with power steering, power brakes, power windows, power seats, and air conditioning. Freshly tuned with wires, plugs, cap, etc. Also fully serviced, fuel filter, air filter, oil filter, radiator flushed, newer battery, and all fresh oils and greased. Just installed a brand new muffler, tailpipe, and all new clamps (see picture), completely stock, no glass packs. Newer period whitewall radial Michelin tires and original hubcaps. Interior is at least 90-95% original and well-cared for, no tears or rips, the carpet even appears to be original. Nice headliner. Overall, it is in good condition for its age to say the least. The car is well-documented with a full owner's manual set, service paperwork from the 1970s, emissions and insurance data from the last 30 years (owner in Maryland kept that documentation from the mid-1980s to 2014-2015), and even an appointment book from 1973 and a memo book from 1974, both presumably from the original owner (not sure though). Also includes original luggage rack and spoiler! All factory tinted windows, glass is all in good shape and all of the windows are working including the back tailgate window. Tailgate swings out one way, but it does not want to fold down. It does open completely though. Also, it has a heavy duty trailer hitch installed. For its age and spending most its life in Maryland, it does show some rust as you can see in the pictures in the undercarriage and lower rockers, doors, etc. Has been repainted once quite a while back in the original Bamboo color and is about a 10-footer (definitely driver quality). Chrome and trim in good shape for its age, complete, nothing missing. The woodgrain vinyl is probably original and is in good shape for its age, the tailgate piece is the worst, but excessive wear there is pretty typical for Vista Cruisers. Missing original radio, had an AM FM radio when it was new, but the owner who purchased it around the late 1970s had an aftermarket Realistic AM FM Cassette installed in 1979. We can provide that radio along with the manual for it. Dash is in great shape, no cracks or tears, not faded. The Cruiser was garaged most of its life. All in all, it is a running working project and a fantastic example of a rare 2-seat Vista Cruiser survivor from the last year. It's believed to be a two-owner, first owner had it until about 1977 (we have a Goodyear tire warranty from that time) and then it was purchased by a man in Maryland around 1978 and stayed in his collection until he passed away around 2015 (the last insurance card from Maryland was for 2014-2015). So it's had a lot of time in the garage. It runs well and is not a leaker or smoker. My Dad did a lot of general maintenance, detail-work, exhaust, etc. over the last 3 months. I have put about about 15,000 miles on this truck since buying it from a large re-constructor dealership. Everything about the truck has been 100% except the gas gauge. It shows about 75-80% after filling the tank, then drops faster than you know is actually happening. The Toyota dealer's mechanic tells me this is likely either a defective gauge or defective sending unit. Defective gauge means removing the dash to get at the unit, defective sending unit means dropping the gas tank and replacing or cleaning the sending unit (he said sometimes a bit of grit may stick in the unit and cause improper performance). Hunting this down and correcting it was not and is not consonant with the goal of obtaining a very nice truck at a bargain price. The trip meter is a simple way to follow gas usage and remaining fuel--probably more accurate than gauge needles which, in my experience, on most cars are rather optimistic until you're really low. I'm averaging 19 mpg and my general motoring objective is to make time (75-80 mph cruising) not mpg. I am starting a big add-on job to my house this summer and feel a need for a bigger truck, otherwise would keep this one--it's been great and I've put a lot of money into improvements: ~$1200 aftermarket audio (Kenwood Excelon head unit with HD radio, Pandora. iPod, USB, Bluetooth, handsfree phone with mic, Infinity Kappa speakers all around, Boss powered subwoofer); $300 TonnoPro tonneau--a great unit without the d--- snaps, easy roll up or roll down at any temperature, no ribs left in place to remove and stow in order to clear your load; ~$900 hi-end Firestone Destination tires about 5000 miles ago, quiet and long-wearing, Tire Rack top-rated, best high-performance all-season tire for light trucks where wet and snow traction are primary; hydraulic soft open tailgate; ~$300 true HID headlights and foglights. New brake pads and regular oil changes. People often think a Rebuilt Titled vehicle is something taboo or not dependable, and most banks reinforce this idea by refusing to finance them. However, the banks (the large regional or national chains, not necessarily small neighborhood banks, which typically hold their own notes) are actually re-selling their notes/loans to other investors and it is the aftermarket they are re-selling to that never sees the vehicles and wants only "standard" investments. Any Credit Union and most small neighborhood banks will be happy to do business with you on this vehicle, but, if you ask a large national chain (e.g, Citibank or Chase etc.) you are likely to be turned away. Insurance companies "write off" easily repaired vehicles (as well as truelly "totaled" and wrecked vehicles) rather than pay out for typically months of rental vehicle usage by the insured while they wait for scheduling and repairs, and then may still refuse to accept the repair ("owner refusal" is a standard part of most insurance contracts). Rebuilders skim off the best (easiest fixed) of the write-offs offered for sale to them by the insurance companies and typically only have to unbolt crumpled parts, bolt on new parts, and do some painting. Most re-builders value their rebuilt at about 2/3 or 70% of dealer book value--a huge savings for the knowledgeable consumer. Kelly Blue Book Dealer value of this Tacoma is $26,550 as I write this ($28,440 Dealer Certified). Do the math--I'm giving you an even better deal (and my substantial improvements--audio, HID, tires, tonneau--are gifts), that's why it's "Buy It Now" at a firm price.
