Assuming control in 1975, McLellan lead the brand through some of the darkest days of not only the Corvette but American performance in general. By 1990, change was on the horizon and at the forefront of that change was the Corvette ZR-1. With a revolutionary Lotus-designed powerplant, cutting-edge technology and a refined look, the ZR-1 was destined to be viewed as a milestone in Corvette history. This factory-fresh 1990 ZR-1 shows just 2,892 original miles and comes with some of the most thorough documentation imaginable. If you're in the market for a pristine example of one of the most desirable C4 Corvettes in the most desirable color, your car has arrived. Bright Red is the quintessential Corvette color, and the finish on this one is 100% factory original, perfectly preserved and lovingly maintained since new by a dedicated collector. From the early-style nose to the widened quarter panels housing 11-inch rear wheels, the bodywork remains refreshingly original. Coming in at just over $60,000, this was the most expensive car in the GM stable in 1990. The good news? That money brought better than average paint and build quality, thanks to the specialized assembly line in Bowling Green, Kentucky. If anything, this car may even be better than new, thanks to two decades of rubbing and buffing of the paint, and fastidious maintenance. If you like your Corvettes factory original, they don't get more authentic than this. The ZR-1 is easy to identify with its high-mounted stoplight atop the rear hatch and slightly squared-off taillights, although the LT1 Corvettes quickly adopted these, making the ZR-1 even more anonymous. The hatch is perfect, with the embedded defroster strips undamaged. The ZR-1 windshield is coated with a special UV-filtering coating. Because of the size of the LT5 engine, GM had to use a smaller less effective AC system. To compensate, Chevrolet used the special windshield in order to block out the suns UV rays. This coating gives the windshield its distinctive bluish cast, and unlike most ZR1's of this vintage, this one shows no sign of delamination at the very top edge. Out back, the rear comes in at over four inches wider than the base model Corvette. The pearl under this Corvette's clamshell hood is the 5.7L LT5 V8. Originally intended to be a set of 16-valve cylinder heads atop a basic small block, Lotus engineers assigned to the project quickly realized that there was no way to cost-effective way build such a beast. Instead, they designed an all-aluminum V8 which shared only basic dimensions with the standard small block. With 32 valves, four cams and a trick dual-path induction system, the LT5 belted out 375 horsepower in 1990. The engine was built by Mercury Marine, whose specialization in aluminum casting won them the contract. When this engine was introduced to the Corvette chassis, it sent waves throughout the automotive community. Visually, there's no mistaking the unique intake manifold and sculpted cam covers emblazoned with the Corvette logo. More attractively finished than any engine since the 1930s, the LT5 in this ZR-1 is preserved in showroom fresh condition. Operated enough to keep everything healthy, almost every component is original. The fluids have been changed but the plugs, wires, belts, and hoses remain factory issue and in fine condition. If preservation class judging is your thing, this car will deliver the trophies. The chassis is equally well preserved, including the ZF 6-speed manual transmission. Out back, the ZR-1 uses 3.42 gears with a limited slip on a slightly beefed-up version of the stock Corvette 5-link suspension. By 1990, the Corvette had matured into more than just a street-legal racer with a flinty ride, and the ZR-1's FX3 adjustable suspension made it more than capable of comfortable long-distance cruising. This one still wears its original brakes and even the original brake pads are in place, with the rotor surfaces bright and shiny. The wheels on the ZR-1 were similar to the standard Corvette, but were special 179.5 up front and a massive 1711. Wrapped in 245/40 and 315/35 Goodyear Eagles, the factory look remains intact. If you were a technophile living in the 1990's, the Flame Red leather interior of this ZR-1 was a dream realized. With an advanced digital and analog dashboard, deeply bolstered highly adjustable bucket seats and every electronic accessory GM could dream up, the ZR-1 delivers on its promise of high technology. The cockpit embraces the driver, angling all the controls to their favor, including the HVAC and entertainment systems. At the base of the console, you'll find what GM called the valet key which shut down half of the LT5's fuel injectors and intake runners, effectively limiting its performance. A clever, if gimmicky, idea that works as advertised. Forget to switch it to "FULL" and you'll find that roughly 150 horses have suddenly gone missing from your ZR-1's corral. The interior of this time capsule car is immaculately preserved, with minimal wear on the seats, carpets, or any other soft parts. The original protective plastic on the seats was only removed for our photo shoot, and is included with the car. The trunk is also flawless, and neatly stows one of the two removable tops when not in use. Documentation for this Corvette practically defines comprehensive. To start with, ALL relevant paper work from the original sale is present and well preserved. These items included everything from the original window stickers and invoices to the owner's manual and hangtags detailing the ABS system and cleaning instructions. Next up is the ZR-1 owner's kit a gray box that contains a leather portfolio with the Corvette logo on it, a "driver's manual" (not to be confused with the owner's manual), a VHS tape about the ZR-1 and a gold key chain. Also included are two books detailing the 1990 and 1991 Corvettes. The original protective steering wheel cover is even here! This is as close to a 90s Chevrolet showroom as you'll get without a time machine. The best aspect of owning a ZR-1 like this one is that, whether you decide to drive it or stash it in a collection, you own a genuinely great car capable of being driven anywhere in comfort. While every subsequent generation of Corvette has shared the same set of goals, this one marks the first whole-hearted attempt at transforming the best American sports car into the world's best sports car. Don't miss your chance to bring home a fantastic example of one the of the most significant C4 Corvettes assembled. About This Auction Please note that all sales are binding and final. The great thing about Corvette collectors is that they know history and respect documentation. This 1990 Corvette convertible is an ideal example of enthusiast ownership getting everything right: 2011 NCRS Top Flight certification, full documentation from new, and immaculate presentation that makes it one of the finest we\'ve ever seen. C4 Corvettes are earning some appreciation these days, and with a vast majority of them being worn out and abused, finding clean, unmolested, completely stock cars like this convertible is getting rather difficult. Unlike many of its siblings, this one was pampered and treated as a toy from day one and today shows just 32,550 original miles. The gorgeous black paint has been regularly buffed and waxed to keep it in top condition for shows and with the low mileage, you know the nose and rockers haven\'t been beaten up by road debris. And with NCRS certification, you know it\'s as good as it can possibly be, showing factory gaps and panel alignment, which is surprisingly good. An accessory rear deck luggage rack helps give this \'Vette a unique look and may even add some practicality if you\'re looking to take some road trips. All the emblems, lenses, and trim pieces are in excellent condition as well, making this a Corvette that\'s turn-key regardless of whether you want to drive it or show it. Black leather is a big selling feature on this Corvette, and the interior is as well-preserved as the bodywork. The driver\'s seat shows very minor wear, less than you\'d expect even with the low mileage, and again suggests that the owner made sure it was in superior condition whenever he took it out. The 1990 cars carried the analog/digital instrument panel and dash layout that would stay with the C4 for the remainder of its life, and the layout works rather well for performance driving. Every Corvette came loaded with things like A/C, power windows and locks, a trip computer, cruise control, and a tilt wheel, but this car adds upgrades like power seats, a tire pressure monitoring system, and an upgraded AM/FM/cassette stereo that actually sounds quite good, even today. Carpets, door panels, and even the dash pad are all in exemplary condition worthy of the awards this car has won, and the black canvas convertible top looks and fits like new. The Corvette L98 Tune-Port Injection 350 cubic inch V8 is one of the most reliable small blocks ever devised and makes the kind of neck-snapping torque that Corvette owners expect. Combined with the 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission, this Corvette has the quick reflexes that make traffic a joy and long-distance touring a lot of fun. And despite being extremely mod-friendly engines, this one remains entirely stock, with just service and maintenance items replaced over the past twenty-five years. The alternator was recently rebuilt and there are fresh fuel injectors in the intake manifold, meaning that it starts easily and runs superbly, offering a baritone V8 rumble from the stock exhaust system. The suspension and brakes were world-class back in 1990 and today make the car a blast on curving country roads with high limits and surprisingly supple ride quality. The stock 17-inch alloy wheels are virtually unmarked and carry recent tires that are probably only the second set this car has ever worn. Documented with every single piece of paper it ever came with, this is a rare C4 Corvette that truly qualifies as \"investment grade.\" Call today! This vehicle is located in our Dallas/Fort Worth showroom. For more information, please call (817) 764-8000 or toll free (855) 877-2707. Ad provided by OldCarOnline.com/cond>

[email protected] 5527 Lakeview Road, Charlotte, NC, 28269, US 1990 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 2,892 Actual Mile One Owner Corvette ZR-1 6 Speed Year: 1990 Type of vehicle title: Clear Primary color: Red Mileage: 2945 Transmission type: 6 Speed Manual Engine: 5.7 Liter V8 Interior color: Red Vehicle info When Dave McLellan replaced Zora Arkus-Duntov as the chief engineer of the Corvette, he had some legendary shoes to fill. From refined to sinister, a change of color is all it takes to show these cars in a new light. This 1962 Corvette roadster airs on the classier side of possibilities thanks to its tasteful Fawn Beige exterior and matching cockpit. But don't let that reserved look fool you there's some serious firepower underneath that fiberglass. A tribute to the 1,918 cars equipped with the legendary L84 327ci, the car mixes a beefy 360hp small block with a Borg Warner four-speed transmission. The beneficiary of a frame-off restoration, the car presents with authenticity and feels every bit as good as it looks on the road. There is never a bad time for a great Corvette and this L84-equipped '62 roadster is definitely one of the best! Judging by its serial number, this roadster left GM's St. Louis line in May of 1962. While a lot of cars left that plant dressed in red, white, or silver, this roadster found a more sophisticated hue in code 920 Fawn Beige. The color's impact is heightened by Chevrolet's decision to go monochromatic for the model year, putting an end to those classic contrasting coves. The paintwork presents as it should even and lustrous without crossing the line into over-restored territory. There are pictures of the car stripped to its bare essence during the build and, even then, the body presented well. It was the kind of solid no-hit shell builders always hope to begin with. Panel fitment is true to factory standards and, overall, the car makes a great first impression. For 1962, Chevrolet further refined an already great body style, creating a perfect send-off piece for the C1 Corvette. This example wears those updates well. At the front, a black grille insert sits above chrome bumperettes while quad headlights cap the fenders. Corvette script spans the space between those headlights, capped by a '62-exclusive Corvette emblem. Follow the hood toward a crystal clear windshield, wrapped in well-preserved stainless and kept clean by stainless wipers. Swing over to the side to admire the swept front fender wells leading into those classic coves. Crisp "Fuel Injection" badges hang underneath another set of cross-flag emblems while the side cutouts features fine-tooth '62-exclusive grilles. A driver side mirror, chrome door handles, and ribbed rocker molding complete the view. Out back, the "ducktail" continues the overall sense of motion, capped by dual round taillights and a second set of chrome bumperettes. If you wanted the top option Corvette, the new-for-'62 L84 327ci was the way to go. Making an impressive 1.146hp per cubic inch (360hp total), the compact powerhouse remained the highest-rated production small block ever offered by Chevrolet until the quad-cam LT5 was introduced in 1990. Rebuilt to factory specs, the correct small block in this roadster utilizes a high-lift cam, "double hump" heads, and 11.25:1 compression to help make those impressive numbers. Of course, the star of the show is the Rochester mechanical fuel injection setup perched atop an aluminum Winters intake an option just 1,918 buyers selected for the model year. The front of the engine turns little aside from a period-correct generator while the water pump pairs with a Harrison radiator, a Harrison expansion tank, GM hoses, and single fan to keep the bay cool. The finned valve covers wear their age well and, at the back, the chrome ignition cover adds some factory flash to the engine compartment. Turn the key and the small block comes to life without fuss, ready for the back roads. Crawl under this Corvette to find a solid undercarriage restored to the same standards as the exterior. The floors are finished with a light layer of undercoating while the X-braced frame and several key components are finished in satin black. Behind the L84, a Borg Warner T10 four-speed provides smooth shifts, spinning power back to a 8.2" drop-out rear axle. Suspension stays true to the stock formula with a double A-arm independent front and a solid axle with leaf springs out back. There are sway bars at both ends and axle straps come in handy during quick takeoffs. The driving experience is a direct one thanks to manual steering and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes which are surprisingly effective at the bringing the car to a halt. The exhaust system meets in front of the bright orange oil pan and extends back on either side, carrying spent gases out through factory-style mufflers and angle-cut pipes. At the corners, a set of 15-inch wheels spins full covers and 6.70-16 white walls, completing the car in period correct styling. Between the doors, this Corvette carries a matching Fawn interior, continuing that upmarket feel inside. Step over the polished door sill pates onto Tuxedo carpeting with custom floors mats. That carpet extends on the bottom of the restored door panels freshened with new hardware and reflectors. The vinyl bucket seats are still firm and supportive and the stainless outlines that extend behind them present as new, flowing into the classic waterfall. There is no center console to speak of but the shifter is surrounded by an original looking shift plate console with an ashtray on the right side. The dash is an attractive jet-age carry over with a large curved speedometer backing a fuel gauge, a temperature gauge, a column-mounted tachometer, a battery output gauge, and an oil pressure gauge all housed in round pods. All the chrome pulls and switches show well and, in the center stack, a Wonder Bar radio tops heater controls and a clock, both outlined in stainless. This is a two-top car so, behind the seats, you'll find a white canvas top which can be hidden and replaced by a body-matched hardtop whenever you feel so inclined. This sale of this roadster includes an original owner's guide and restoration images which document that paint process and nearly every major casting, date code, and part number. Corvettes are always special cars and rare examples like this take their appeal off the charts. With just 1,918 equipped with the L84 327, its value is sure to increase; especially when you factor in the Borg Warner four-speed and the tasteful color choice. The car presents well from any angle you can dream up and the fuel-injected small block is just as fun now as it was in 1962. If you're looking for a unique C1 Corvette to round out your collection, this Fawn Beige roadster is the perfect choice! Thankfully, the significance of those names only grows with education, making cars like this numbers-matching Chevelle Super Sport all the more desirable. Serving just two owners during its 44 year career, and scoring 987 out of 1001 points at the National Chevelle Owner's Association Show, this clean A-body is the beneficiary of an extensive, professional restoration that enabled better-than-factory glory. And, backed by a loyal Turbo-Hydramatic 3-speed and all-important options such as an F41 suspension and power front disc and rear drum brakes, it's obvious the car's original buyer knew exactly what boxes to check. If you're ready to add one of the most sought after muscle cars in the world to your collection, this awesome SS LS6 will pay you back time and time again! Hailing from the general's storied Atlanta manufacturing facility, and featured extensively in Year One parts catalogs, this stunning Super Sport is the beneficiary of a body-off, rotisserie restoration that included new GM quarters and fresh GM fenders. In 1995, the car's current owners coordinated hours of professional metalwork that resulted in a super straight profile. Of course, being lovingly driven and rebuilt to resto-mod status circa 1990, this awesome Chevy was already solid and exceptionally well-kept. That clean presentation was layered in correct Shadow Gray base, accented with Tuxedo Black rally stripes and sealed in glossy clear. And today, only 30 miles after its roof-to-rocker makeover, this top dog coupe sits as one spectacular piece of iconic American muscle that's detailed to award-winning standards. Many enthusiasts believe the '70 Chevelle introduced a host of excellent refinements which transformed the 'good' design of Chevrolet's 1969 model into something 'great'. At the front of this monotone menace, a familiar crossbar grille hangs a prominent "SS" emblem between authentic T3s, a small "CHEVELLE" script and a broad chrome bumper. Above that bumper, a functional cowl induction hood anchors new glass between traditional lanyards, pristine window trim and a clean greenhouse that's factory-coded as Tuxedo Black. At the base of that greenhouse, bright "SS454" badges combine with straight wheel frames, traditional door handles and flashy chrome mirrors to add visual detail to the car's liquid-smooth profile. And at the back of that profile, a second chrome bumper centers a black Super Sport inlay between clear brake lamps, a classy "Chevelle by Chevrolet" script and spotless stainless exhaust tips. Although the 1970 Super Sport's ferocious Turbo Fire V8 was conservatively rated at 450 horsepower, it actually punched the dyno somewhere north of 500. And, despite being swapped for a thrifty 327 by the car's first owner, this classic's original LS6 remained close to its rightful home. Engage the hood's Shadow Gray springs and you'll find a correct cowl induction system that's cleanly integrated into a completely finished, Satin Black frame. At the center of that frame, a correctly decaled, single-snorkel air cleaner forces oxygen into a big Holley carburetor and low-rise Corvette intake. At the back of that intake, a traditional points distributor snakes sparks around a correct 3963512 casting number and November (K) 7th (7), 1969 (9) casting date via high quality Packard TV R Suppression cables. Below those cables, a correct LS6 cam, correct exhaust manifolds and old school emissions hardware add value and exclusivity. And in front of that hardware, GM hoses channel water past a matching partial VIN and correct "CRR" suffix stamp with the help of a replacement radiator and old school tower clamps. During the car's extensive restoration, the big Chevy was completely overhauled by the pros at Sonny Heck's Automotive. And, from its fresh Delco battery and mirrored valve covers all the way to its stainless fluid lines and bright decals, the monster mill looks much nicer than anything that left GM's factories. Naturally, this coupe's road-ready chassis has been restored to the same high standards as the aforementioned body panels and engine compartment. A nice coat of Satin Black paint provides a great foundation for a slew of factory-accurate details. Behind the stout big block, a CY-coded Turbo-Hydramatic 400 3-speed sends power to a correct posi-traction rear end that's equipped with meaty, 4.10 gears. Holding that killer drivetrain off the ground is a completely restored F41 heavy duty performance suspension that's equipped with thicker coils, heavy duty shocks, a larger diameter front sway bar, a standard rear sway bar, boxed rear control arms and beefy cross braces. At the corners of that suspension, power front disc and rear drum brakes provide greatly improved stops. Between those brakes, fried dinosaurs travel through a fresh, true-dual exhaust system that's complete with factory replacement mufflers. The 454's power flows through 14-inch Super Sport wheels, which spin old school F70-14 Goodyear Polyglas Custom Wide Treads around correct SS center caps. And, as expected, the bottom of this Chevelle is pristine in every way, with every square inch of the car's fully-sorted hardware completely detailed for show. Featuring a host of new components, and decked in what is arguably the best color offered for the 1970 model year, this Chevelle's correctly restored interior is inviting and comfortable. Its slick bench and bucket seats are firm to the touch, showing no signs of detrimental wear and tear. In front of those seats, a crack-free dash, restored by Just Dashes in Van Nuys, California, features a full set of gauges. Below that dash, clean carpet centers a full console and correct horseshoe shifter between bright Fisher sills. At the sides of that carpet, pick-free door panels align spotless stainless trim and prerequisite "SS" emblems on bright chrome handles and pliable black armrests. In front of the driver, a handsome Chevrolet Rally Wheel keeps everything pointed straight. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk anchors a correct jack and full-size spare beneath an optional rear window defogger. The sale of this shadowy Chevy includes: an original Owner's Manual, a Certificate of Participation for the Minneapolis Aquatennial and Milestone Car Society Concours d'Elegance, judging sheets from the National Chevelle Owners Association, restoration photos, restoration receipts and maintenance notes. Overall, this numbers-matching coupe is the total package. With a king-of-the-mountain LS6, correct Turbo-Hydramatic 3-speed and every option that allowed these cars to develop such stellar reputations, this was a bragging rights car in its day and perhaps even more so now. If you're ready for some fresh firepower in your automotive arsenal, don't miss the chance to take home this awesome Chevelle Super Sport! Assuming control in 1975, McLellan lead the brand through some of the darkest days of not only the Corvette but American performance in general. By 1990, change was on the horizon and at the forefront of that change was the mighty ZR-1. With a revolutionary Lotus-designed powerplant, cutting-edge technology and refined looks, the ZR-1 was destined to be a milestone in Corvette history. And, speaking of history, this factory-fresh ZR-1 backs just 13,425 original miles with some of the most thorough documentation imaginable. If you're in the market for a pristine example of one of the most desirable Corvettes ever produced, you've found your next classic! This stunning, one family-owned Vette began life as a highly optioned coupe that was delivered to Sunset Chevrolet in Sarasota, Florida. Its original window sticker, which is included with our sale, lists the following roster of equipment. Silky Black two-stage shows just how far GM paint technology has come from the days of multi-colored Stingrays. The car's lightweight body panels display precise fit and exact finish under ancillary hardware that functions well and seals great. It's very unlikely that body has ever felt anything more aggressive than a soft detailing cloth. And when that level of ownership is combined with Bowling Green's top notch build quality, it creates one seriously capable sports car that shows well and absolutely blisters the road! Walking around this Chevy, it's easy to appreciate how gently late-model C4s have aged. Roughly two decades after they debuted, the car's sharp lines still represent the Corvette brand incredibly well. At the front of its wet-looking body, a clean combination of halogen running lamps and amber turn signals frame a stamped Corvette tag panel that's free of chips or damage of any kind. Above that tag panel, a long hood, which mimics the cowl induction units found on classic Chevrolets, features a fresh black Corvette badge that's complete with a pristine mix of silver checkers, black checkers and a red Chevy bowtie. At the sides of that badge, the car's profile carries the same coke bottle shape of older Corvettes, except whittled down by years of gained aerodynamic knowledge. Embedded in that knowledge, a ring of body-color trim perfectly complements clear corner lamps, traditional Corvette gills, Satin Black door handles and body-matched mirrors. Inside those mirrors, original, chip-free glass reflects a small center high mount stop lamp and either a tinted glass roof or painted targa top. And at the back of the car's body, four trademark Corvette tail lights frame bold Corvette emblems, vertical reverse lamps and original, quad-outlet exhaust tips. The aluminum LT5 V8 found under the hood of this virtually new Corvette is a modern work of automotive art. Originally intended to be a simple set of 16-valve cylinder heads atop a basic Chevrolet small block, the Lotus engineers assigned to the project quickly realized there was no cost-effective way to build such a motley beast. Instead, they designed a world class V8 which shared basic dimensions with Chevrolet's storied small block, but exactly zero interchangeable components. The result is a 32-valve, 4-cam powerhouse that features a trick dual-path induction system, 375 horsepower and 370 lb./ft. of torque, all without any help from fuel supplements or any kind of forced induction. The aesthetically pleasing piece was assembled by Mercury Marine, whose specialization in aluminum casting won them the contract. And when fitted under the Corvette's clamshell hood, it became an ultra-performance world record holder. There's no mistaking the big engine's unique intake and sculpted cam covers, which are emblazoned with the Corvette logo, for something any less than fantastic. And, more beautifully finished than any engine since the 1930s, the LT5 in this ZR-1 is preserved in 100% showroom-fresh condition. Don't worry; the lightweight mill has definitely been operated enough to stay healthy, with its fluids being changed regularly. And nothing, from the bottom of its spotless hood to the top of its clean oil pan, shows any significant signs of wear and tear. Behind that hot small block, a proven ZF 6-speed distributes power to a factory Corvette rear end. That combination works great in conjunction with the motor's ability to shut down half its intake runners, making this Vette plenty quick off the line and a joy to cruise on the highway. All ZR-1s have a Lotus-tuned FX3 double A-arm front and independent rear suspension, which features electronic traction control and driver-adjustable active ride control. 4-wheel, Lotus-tuned power disc brakes combine with Lotus-tuned power steering to keep all that power productive and pointed straight. Factory dual exhaust runs from original equipment manifolds into two rear-mounted mufflers that hang just before GM's familiar quad-outlet tips. And torque meets the pavement through a set of killer 17-inch alloys that spin super wide 275/40 BF Goodrich g-Force Sports in front of even wider 315/35 BF Goodrich Comp T/As. The bottom of this Corvette is every bit as nice as its spectacular engine compartment and glossy exterior panels, showing minimal wear and almost no signs of weathering. The car's bright suspension bits contrast nicely to a clean floorpan. And its straight and solid chassis barely looks like its seen ANY time on the street. Like its body, this C4's clean cockpit is well-maintained in virtually every way. The plush driving environment kicks off with a pair of 6-way, power adjustable buckets that are stitched in black leather. In front of those buckets, a leather-wrapped and Corvette-branded steering wheel laps a conservative dash that's fitted with both clear analog and bright digital gauges. Inside that dash, the car's modern center stack anchors electronic climate control above a premium Delco Bose sound system, a simple black shifter and buttons for the adjustable suspension. Opposite that center stack, monotone side panels hang switches for both power windows and power door locks above sculpted armrests. At the back of those panels, a surprisingly spacious cargo hold features enough room for short, weekend road trips. And naturally, all the amenities and conveniences you've come to expect in a modern ride are present and accounted for. The sale of this investment grade ZR-1 includes:Factory paperworkDealer paperworkWarranty paperworkAn original window stickerAn original owner's boxAn original Owner's ManualAn original 30-day tagA marketing brochureMaintenance receiptsA Service ManualAn Electric Service Manual SupplementA copy of "Building The Next Corvette"Multiple historic publicationsAn extra set of keysA few spare parts The best aspect of owning a vintage ZR-1 is, whether you decide to drive it or stash it, you own a genuinely great car that's capable of being driven anywhere in comfort. While every subsequent generation of Corvette has shared the same set of goals, this one marks the first whole-hearted attempt at transforming the best American sports car into the world's best sports car. Don't miss your chance to bring home a fantastic example of possibly the most significant C4 Corvette ever assembled. [email protected] 5527 Lakeview Road, Charlotte, NC, 28269, US 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Super Sport LS6 Frame Off Restored Chevelle SS LS6 454/450 HP V8 TH400 Year: 1970 Type of vehicle title: Clear Primary color: Gray Mileage: 25 Transmission type: 3 Speed Automatic Engine: 454 LS6 V8 Interior color: Black Vehicle info If you grew up around cars, "LS6" was probably one of those terms that, alongside "Hemi" and "Super Cobra Jet", meant something very special long before you could properly define it. Eventually Chevrolet took their Corvette to the racetrack, while Ford continued to turn their Thunderbird into the ultimate boulevard king. Now, over sixty years later, Corvettes are regarded as some of the best curve carvers in the world, and Thunderbirds, like this 17K-mile stunner, are still turning heads on Main Street. If you looked at a brand new Thunderbird in 1955 but couldn't swing it, and looked again in 2002 but the timing just wasn't right, 2015 is your year! That's right; we have a pristine 2002 Thunderbird that's so nice it could've rolled out of the factory yesterday! So, if you're still looking to hit the road in refined style, the third time's a charm! BODYWORK/TRIM Ford's sensational Thunderbird sprang to life as a 1955 halo car that fired imaginations and eventually became a legend. In 1999, Dearborn's favorite son decided it would honor that original by building a new model to turn just as many heads. And, within three years, the convertible you see here, affectionately dubbed the 'retrobird', was rolling through production. This pristine drop-top's long body has obviously been pampered and exceptionally cared for as its slick Thunderbird Blue 2-stage looks just as good now as the day it rolled off the truck. And, from its great fit to its blemish-free panels, this Ford is definitely one of the nicest factory cruisers on the planet! As one of the most enduring 'retro' designs ever created, the car's J Mays-penned fuselage looks fantastic from virtually any angle. At the front of that fuselage, a bright chrome grille hangs small driving lights below clear, combination headlamps and a teal-inlayed Thunderbird emblem. Behind that emblem, a composite hood centers a traditional Thunderbird scoop in front of tinted factory glass that sports a stylish chrome frame. At the top of that frame, a Performance White hardtop latches down over a standard Haartz soft top to perfectly mimic Ford's original, 1955 dual-roof system. Below those roofs, chrome ventiports ride inside re-imagined fender lines that lead the eye through body-matched mirrors to rear mounted "Thunderbird" scripts. And, behind those scripts, a contoured Center High Mount Stop Lamp illuminates a second teal-inlayed Thunderbird emblem, clear, combination taillights, a chrome-trimmed tag recess and stylish stainless exhaust tips. ENGINE When Ford debuted the eleventh generation Thunderbird it introduced a car that was faithful to the original concept in virtually every way. Power for this classy cruiser comes from a 3.9 liter, 32-valve DOHC V8 that was developed by former captive subsidiary Jaguar. Code named AJ35, the Ford-specific mill utilizes variable valve timing, fracture-split and forged rods, 1-piece, cast camshafts and a reinforced, composite intake to twist 280 smooth horses into 286 lb./ft. of stout torque. More of a 'comfortable cruiser' than 'flat-out sports car', the 'retrobird' never pretended to be a Corvette or Porsche competitor. That said; 0-60 comes at a very respectable seven seconds, and the car's silky powerplant delivers enough grunt to provide fun and responsive driving characteristics. Aesthetically, the entire engine is hidden under an attractive plastic shroud which substitutes a classic "Thunderbird" script and silver "V8" branding for traditional views of its componentry. However, you can still plainly see how well everything has been maintained and, with a turn of the key, the cylinders settle into a restrained hum of power. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION In the late 1990s and early 2000s Ford developed one global rear wheel drive platform, codenamed DEW, that was set to underpin everything from select Jaguars to the fifth generation Mustang. Those competent roots supply this awesome Thunderbird with a sophisticated independent suspension, which utilizes a host of weight saving technology to provide a smooth ride and composed road manners. Behind the aluminum engine, a 5-speed automatic transmission sends power to a fresh Ford rear end that's fitted with beefy 3.58 gears. At the corners of the chassis, 4-wheel disc brakes, which are aided by standard antilock and traction control systems, ride behind chrome, 17-inch wheels and sticky Michelin Pilots. All that world-class engineering results in a sturdy convertible that translates relaxed sportiness into an excellent combination of cushy comfort and tight handling. And when you throw your favorite road at this drop-top, it'll chew it up, spit it out and coddle you in the kind of luxury vintage T-bird owners merely dream of experiencing. INTERIOR Ford began the 21st century by producing some of the most impressive and detail-oriented interiors to ever hit the market. And the 2-tone cockpit in this roadster, equipped with an optional Full Interior Color Accent Package, has to be one of their best designs. The driver and passenger are treated to power leather seats, which are branded with small Thunderbird emblems. Below those seats, day-one-fresh carpet is protected by color-keyed floor mats and bordered by cool "Ford Thunderbird" sill plates. Above those sills, winged door panels hang slick metal trim behind controls for both power windows and power door locks. In front of those panels, a highly detailed dash anchors Turquoise-tipped needles between satin-faced gauges, a 6-disc CD changer and attractive metal trim. At the base of that dash, a great looking console centers dual-zone climate control on a Thunderbird Blue shift knob and sculpted waterfall back panel. In front of the driver, a 2-tone wheel spins a pristine, teal-inlayed emblem around a tilting and telescoping column. And behind the passengers, a fully finished trunk features enough luggage room for a quick weekend getaway.
