I have a grandmother's 2003, white, VW Volkswagen Jetta station wagon, with low mileage o it, around 103k, just starting to break in.
Since owning this car, I have mechanically maintained this car above and beyond, changing the oil every 2500 miles, rotating the tires every 4 months and having the alignment inspected and adjusted also every 4 months.
This car has had the timing belt done twice at the dealership. Once at 50k, and this past spring I had them put on another new timing interior and exterior belt, around 100k. All the work was done at the dealership here locally and is still under it 12 mos/ 12k warranty.
The car was fully tuned up in the fall with all new plugs, wires and coil pack, fuel and air filter, cabin filter, etc. New radiator hoses were also changed with the annual flush last year. I had the transmission sensor replaced at 90k. I also had the oil pan replaced with a new one at the dealership in the spring because it got dented and I wanted a perfect cosmetic look to it, even underneath.
I put all new lifetime brake rotors from Bosch on it with ceramic brake pads all the way around which came with a lifetime warranty on them. I had the rotors painted a sporty blue to add to the newer factory aluminum wheels I had added to the car for a sportier look.
I ordered a complete 2nd set of brake rotors so that future brake jobs can be done with ease, under warranty.
I further put new struts all the way around the car within the last 12 months, and put new tires on the car from Sears, with a lifetime road hazard, balance and rotation warranty. It also has over 2 years left on its 3 years unlimited alignment warranty.
The car has had its cooling system flushed yearly. The a/c system was flushed and serviced, keeping the A/C nice and cold. The windows were also tinted last year, while I also had the headliner replaced with a new one. When the dealer was putting in the new headliner, I had them also completely redo the four door panels to match the headliner for a nice, new interior look. I went beyond that and had a custom dash cover done to protect the dash and add to its elegant look inside.
This car averages 24 - 32 mpg, is driven daily to work, and is worry free.
To balance things off, in my opinion, the only negative things, to mention about my car. It has several minor body dings, on one lower rocker panel under a door where something bounced off the highway and caught it, and another ding on a door. Lastly, I have not replaced the catalytic converter, which may help later maximize the fuel economy beyond the 24 -32 mpg, later. Because it drives great and still gets good gas mileage, I was informed by the mechanic that it was not necessary to do, unless later it gets clogged or disintegrates. It did throw a sensor light, which is why I had it checked out at the dealership, but they confirmed the catalytic converter was still functional, just operating at maximum fuel efficiency due to its age. The maintenance at this point was optional, since the car runs great and is not reacting negatively to the catalytic sensor. However, the
O2 exhaust sensors I did go ahead and replace.
The car runs and drives nicely and is maintenance free up to date. Very few cars are on the market that can boast of this much maintenance and upkeep.
Most cars today you buy them and have to get their timing belts done still, replace a/c this or that, tires, struts, etc and you still only have a partially forced repair job and NO maintenance done. This car is just the opposite.
Once again only 103k on this car... low low mileage! No leaks anywhere underneath, no exhausts smoke whatsoever, ... smoothe and quiet. I have a thick folder of all my maintenance records, and warranties. This car has a clear title with no accidents.
I am selling the car for $5500 firm.
