I bought the car about 7 years ago, have enjoyed driving car since then. Car still looks very good and is a head turner. Always getting compliments. Car is always stored in an enclosed garage. Paint is about 7 years old, but looks good (see below) Fog lights were clear type but were replaced with the amber colored lights. Some of the parts may not be original to the car. Buyer is responsible for shipping or pickup of vehicle within 7 days of auction ending. Vehicle is being sold as is. There is some surface scratches from normal wear from use. Car has small rust bubbles on driver door at bottom toward the front and a spot on passenger side along door jamb from what I can see. Car has some surface rust in trunk and on bottom of car. There could be other rust or issues unknown to me. On both corners of where trunk lid meets up to car paint has stress crack. All of the glass is in good condition but is old so has some spots and possible scratches.Rear deck speakers have cracks from sitting in sun. Car has a small oil leak I believe around oil pan but not sure. Car starts up everytime without issue. Sometimes when car has been driven it hesitates to restart when warm. After it sits and cools off it cranks right up. Turn signal switch locks in down position(left) but does not lock in up(right). Car is being sold as is with no warranty or guarantee. The miles are original (44214) and it has been driven only here in East Texas and the surrounding areas; so there are no snow/salt/rust issues. The first owner purchased it and owned it until his death in late 1996. Right after the time of the first owners death, his son, who was in a wheelchair, had thought to have it converted into a wheelchair accessible van with steering wheel controls; however, this type of van did not have a heavy enough suspension to safely install the lift. As a result, the son parked it in the yard (in 1997) until the 2nd owner, a gentleman who is a master mechanic for the Highway Dept here in Atlanta purchased it in 2008. I have spoken with him and in his words, "I put a battery on it, 5 gallons of gas in the tank, and it cranked up and I drove it off!". He enjoyed it and replaced tires, brakes, cv boots, plug wires/spark plugs, purchased and installed the exhaust system from Empi (go to www.empius.com for info about this VW parts/accessories). He also replaced the header with a 77 Porsche header. The radio was replaced with a cd player, and the chrome beauty rings on the outside of the hub caps are not original. All else is original on this bus. He brushed on bondo where the bus had surface rust only, which is what is shown in the photos. He sold it to his good friend (the 3rd owner) who has driven it for Sunday afternoon fund and has never intended to sell it until now. His health now requires that he sell it. Transmission is good; clutch is strong and shifts perfectly. Tires are P205/75R14 and are at approx 90%. Sliding door on passenger side works properly. All seats are well-kept. VWs had dealer installed Tecumseh a/c compressors. This compressor is good, however the coolant line that runs the length of the van needs to be replaced; this would allow the compressor to work and the front and rear a/c to blow cold. An inexpensive repair but one that the current owner is unable to address. Also, the sending unit should be replaced as the fuel gauge shows full when the tank is filled, however the gauge needle will drop to a half and then a 1/4. The owner said he knows to fill it up every 200 miles and he is good to go. The title is clear and he has personal possession of it. The sale will transfer from the current owner, to the new owner, with the title and a bill of sale as supporting documents. We are assisting him by advertising it for him. The vin, 2292010383 decodes from left to right as: 2= engine type/Type 2 Van, 2= model/Micro Bus, 9= production year/1979 model year, 2=production after Aug 1, 1969, and 010383 = sequential production serial number. Introduced in 1967, the T2b (or Late Bay) bus was the second generation of VW busses and the last of this body style manufactured in Germany for the US. It uses the rear-engine Volkswagen air-cooled engine, a 1.6 litre, DIN-rated 35 kW (48PS, 47 bhp), air-cooled four-cylinder "boxer" engine mounted in the rear with a 4-speed manual transmission. Also, Bosch L-Jetronic Electronic fuel injection and electronic ignition. This engine reduced the height of the engine profile, earning it the nickname of "Pancake" or "Suitcase" engine. The focus of the engine was always on low-end torque performance, not power, and considered to be a more robust and durable engine than the previous Type 1 (1.1L) engine. This 1949 3100 216 Inline 6 is the original body and motor. We purchased it through a friend in West Texas at a farm sale. In order to get it running, the brake lines/calipers/pads have been replaced, a new gas tank, new sending unit and new carburetor. Original transmission is 4-speed 4 on the floor/1st is "granny low". The serial number is located on the left (driver's side) front body hinge pillar. The serial no. on the metal plate shows: 5GP-E12286. The other legible portion of the plate shows: Manufactured by Chevrolet Division, General Motors Corporation. After Max and Equipped the stamped letters and/or numbers are not legible. The original headlamps work as does the interior cabin light (see pics). On the left gauge, the fuel indicator, battery indicator, and oil pressure all operate properly, however the temp indicator does not. The speedometer also operates (we got top speed of 45mph). Body is only surface rust; truck originated in New Mexico and then to West Texas so arid dry/low humidity kept the body in good shape. Windshield, rear window and side windows are all intact and solid. Chris cut the pine boards and installed them with the original cross pieces to make the bed floor. (The truck did not have a bed floor when we purchased it) and had the original seat recovered. The Firestone tires (P215/70R16) are at approx 50%. Originally this truck was Satin Green Metallic with French White striping; a tiny bit of the striping is still visible. If you are looking for the perfect base to complete a detailed restoration, this is the truck. This truck has a Texas title. A bit of history: General Motors' first major redesign post-World War II, the Advance Design series was billed as a bigger, stronger, and sleeker design. First available on Saturday June 28, 1947, these trucks were sold with various minor changes over the years until March 25, 1955, when theTask Force Series trucks replaced the aging Advance Design model.
